Spacetime Studios' games hit 100 million play sessions
Calendar16 Fri, 10 Feb 2012 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Spacetime Studios has hit a pretty crazy milestone, even in the ever-more-massive world of iOS and mobile gaming. The company's MMOs on the iPhone, Android, and Chrome platforms have hit a total of 100 million play sessions, which means people have loaded up and logged into Spacetime's titles more than 100 million times. They're not just checking them out, either: Spacetime says their players are in the game for 25.2 hours a month, which is twice as much as the average gamer plays total. Pretty amazing. I've said this before, too, but Spacetime really has done all of this way under the radar. The company was originally set to make full MMOs for PC, but after running out of funding, had to spin its scope back down to the mobile platforms. That hasn't stopped Spacetime from creating full massively multiplayer online games, though, first with Pocket Legends, then with Star Legends, Read More
By Rob LeFebvre on February 1st, 2012 Hot game Star Legends celebrates its dual win at the 2011 Best App Ever awards with free loot and a giveaway contest. Spacetime Studios is celebrating their win this year in the 2011 Best App Ever awards for Best MMO Game for Star Legends, a top pick here as well. In fact, both the iOS and the Android version took the top spot in this category. It also doesn’t hurt that Spacetime’s other MMO, Pocket Legends, won Best Multiplayer Game in the Android category, as well. To get the word out, they’re offering players an entry to win a Chromebook as well as a chance to win a pile of platinum (in game currency) just for logging in to the game. In addition, they’re taking half off the price of Premium Starter Characters in the MMO, and giving away a commemorative Best Antenna Ever Read More
I've been a fan of Spacetime Studios' MMOs on the iPhone for a while now. That's right -- while multiplayer and even massively multiplayer games are easy to find these days, Spacetime Studios was doing a full-scale World of Warcraft-style MMO back in the early days of iOS with Pocket Legends. The company recently followed that up with the successful Star Legends. Now it has created another technological wonder. Not only has Spacetime released both MMOs as full browser-based desktop apps on the Chrome Store (playable inside the Google Chrome browser), but it's somehow figured out cross-platform play, so those playing on iOS could join folks on Android or the desktop in a single game. Obviously, it doesn't mean much for the game itself (you'll still just see players in the world as normal) but the tech is very impressive indeed. Spacetime's impressive mobile efforts are more compelling when you consider Read More

Sometimes promotions never end. At least, that’s the case with Pocket Legends. In April, developer Space Time Studios kicked off an anniversary celebration that dished out free access to six areas for the generous asking price of $0. Now, the studio is announcing that those areas will remain free FOREVER -- or until we all die in 2012, one or the other. That’s a deal, but you have to wonder how Space Time plans to make money while a large swathe of its instance-based content is free. That’s where this comes in: the studio has just announced a brand new “premium” area called the “Sandstone Caves.” It’s made for players around level 20 to 25 and includes what you want: a new town, a new series of quests, new enemies, new bosses, and new weapons, armor and items. The price? 10 in-game Platinums, which should help satisfy the need for Space Read More
Pocket Legends offers paid content for free
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Apr 2011 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
Pocket Legends, I maintain, is one of iOS' best technical achievements. It's a full-featured MMO, in the style of the legendary World of Warcraft, and it's available to play for free on Apple's App Store. It's huge among a certain audience (and, in fact, I've been told that audience is even bigger on the Android side of things), but I'm surprised that even more players haven't tried this game out to see what Spacetime Studios is working on. Maybe this will help, though: to celebrate the game's one-year anniversary, Spacetime is opening up many of its normally premium content areas to all players for free. In a goofy video they made, developer Cinco Barnes says that all of the game's major premium areas will be open and playable to everyone until May 4. If you haven't taken a look at this app yet, now's a great time to do so. Pocket Read More
It's crazy to think that Pocket Legends [Free] came out a year ago. I've heard that one year equals seven in dog years, but with how fast the App Store moves, I'm not even sure what one App Store year would equate to. Lots more. Anyway, Pocket Legends is a free to play MMO of sorts that works quite a bit like Guild Wars both in actual gameplay and with the amount of expansion content they have for sale. Well, to celebrate the game's anniversary, all of that expansion content is free for a limited time. Better yet, all of this is entirely cross platform and universal, so you can play with friends online regardless of whether they own an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or even an Android device. We reviewed the game last year, but honestly, so much has changed that you're probably better off spending some time on the Read More
Dungeon Fighter Online comes to iOS in a Slayer Edition
Calendar16 Sat, 26 Mar 2011 15:00:00 UTC +00:00
Hot on the heels of its success with Kart Rider Rush, Nexon has brought another one of its free-to-play MMO titles to iOS. Dungeon Fighter Online is one of the most popular titles in the lineup, save for another game called MapleStory. Dungeon Fighter Online is a free-to-play 2D action RPG that came to North America on the PC last year, and now it's out on the iPhone as Dungeon Fighter Slayer Edition, a version that seems to be a more offline-centric setup of the popular MMORPG. Just like the original game, the action is in 2D and fast and furious, but this version costs US$4.99 outright. While there is Game Center integration, it's not clear how this ties into the PC MMO, if at all. Unfortunately, the reviews on iTunes aren't great. The game currently carries a 2-star rating, so it doesn't seem like Nexon has been able to bring Read More
Pockets Legends Gets National TV Ad Campaign
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Mar 2011 17:13:33 UTC +00:00
Posted 03/22/2011 at 9:13am | by Andrew Groen If 2011 has had one overriding theme in iOS gaming thus far, it's definitely the mass acceptance of the platform. We've written several times on this blog about the ways in which we've seen iOS gaming come into its own and become a massively popular gaming medium. This may be one of the final validations we need. A free-to-play iOS MMORPG called Pocket Legends is now being advertised nationally on networks like MTV, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. Never heard of Pocket Legends [iTunes Link]? Few would blame you. It's a big game, but it's hardly Angry Birds. Rather than the break out success of most other hit iPhone games, it appears to have been slowly building a following over time. It's a massively multiplayer game from Spacetime Studios that claims over one millions downloads since its launch, though were not sure Read More
There's been a shocking amount of crossover between the iOS world and the mainstream world lately. Both Doodle Jump and Angry Birds have tie-ins with major motion pictures, Angry Birds was (vaguely) featured during the Super Bowl and Cut The Rope even took home a BAFTA. When this is discussed on our forums, I've seen a few people seemingly jokingly mention that it won't be long before a game on the App Store has its own dedicated TV commercial. Well, that day is today. The following commercial is now running on Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, G4, and more: We thought Pocket Legends was great in our review nearly a year ago. I had no idea that the game was big enough or successful enough for TV commercials until I met with the developers during GDC. Since our initial review, the game has seen several updates to add even more Read More
Blackstar from Spacetime Studios Preview GDC 2011
Calendar16 Tue, 08 Mar 2011 19:04:14 UTC +00:00
By Rob LeFebvre on March 8th, 2011 Sitting down with Gary Gattis of Spacetime Studios to chat about the studio's upcoming science fiction MMO, Blackstar. The minds behind Pocket Legends, Spacetime Studios, are finally able to bring the PC MMO game they were hired to produce for NCSoft back a few years ago. When the project was abruptly cancelled last year, they used the world-class engine to produce Pocket Legends. When we sat down with founder Gary Gattis at GDC this past week, he described this as like putting a Ferrari engine into a Go Kart and seeing what they could do with it. Pocket Legends, while a game with its own growing pains, has become a definite hit on the iOS scene, boasting a huge fantasy styled MMO that just works, and works well. The company has released updates and expansions consistently since the apps original launch. Blackstar is their Read More
GDC 2011: Spacetime Studios returns to Blackstar
Calendar16 Mon, 07 Mar 2011 10:00:00 UTC +00:00
I last spoke with Spacetime Studios' CEO Gary Gattis last year at GDC Online in Austin, and when I saw him then, he told me his company was commissioned to create a PC MMO for NCsoft called Blackstar. Spacetime spent months and months of work on the project before it was abruptly canceled, leaving the company in the lurch and requiring it to make cutbacks until it got to work on what was supposed to be a much smaller project. That project eventually became Pocket Legends, an MMO that's now thriving on the iOS App Store. The game has seen over 3 million downloads across both the Apple and Android platforms (somewhat surprisingly, the game is more popular on Android, where Gattis says he's seen "more numbers and more money" coming in), and is an unqualified success. It's so successful, in fact, that when Spacetime thought about what to do for Read More
'Pocket Legends' Dev Announces New MMO
Calendar16 Fri, 11 Feb 2011 14:16:07 UTC +00:00
Pocket Legends [Free] succeeded where World of Warcraft has failed me. Try as I might, I’ve never been able to play Blizzard Entertainment’s MMO on the toilet. Now, Pocket Legends, on the other hand... man, we’ve had some seriously productive time together on the toilet. And in Q2 2011, I’ll have to shed Pocket Legends for another MMO created by the gurus over at Spacetime Studios. It’s called Blackstar, and like its predecessor, it’ll feature three unique classes to choose from, a 3D world to interact within, tons of loot, and even a few chat features like in-game chat and friends lists. Unfortunately, Spacetime isn’t divulging much at the moment about Blackstar other than those basics, but we do know a few cool specifics: its plot, it’s past, and its platforms. As for the plot, the game will revolve around a “conflict” set in the 41st century between four groups: the arcane-infused Read More
Pocket Legend's newest update brings more content to a game already packed with loot. I’ll be honest: I think Pocket Legends is pretty darn cool. I reviewed the game back in its infancy, and since then it’s continued to expand. If you haven’t played it before, Pocket Legends is a true MMORPG, complete with PvP, boss fights, dungeons, and plenty of loot. The newest update charges you with “preventing a disaster of galactic proportions” as aliens once again threaten the land of Pocket Legends. Of course, this is mostly pretense for giving players some welcome features: a higher level cap, boss-filled dungeons, two PvP maps, and more loot. Who doesn’t love loot? Here’s the list of other recent updates: Lost Expedition Base Camp: a new towne full of quests and loot Leaderboards: compete for most kills, most deaths, K/D ratio, most gold Loadouts that allow you to save and reload different Read More
Pocket Legends has been out on the App Store for quite a while now, but if you (like me) haven't seen it in a while, you might want to check it out again. Spacetime Studios has been steadily updating the game, and the title they showed off at GDC Online 2010 this week was pretty impressive -- an instanced MMO, running in full 3D with three character classes, dungeons and loot, and almost all of the other trappings you'd expect from the genre. This week, I got to sit in on both Cinco Barnes' panel about the studio and its up-and-down background. I also chatted with the company's CEO, Gary Gattis, both about Spacetime's history and what it's done with Pocket Legends so far, and what's in store for the growing title. Spacetime, like quite a few other iPhone developers, has its roots in AAA development. But rather than coming together Read More

Aug 10th 2010 at 10:00AM Yes, you pay for the content. They give you plenty of time to see if you like the game or not. After Level 13, you pay a meager fee to get another set of levels. Not all potions cost real money. Except for the maps, you can get by just fine with the potions you need (using in game gold) and quality, high level armor that you can earn in game. For those on a budget, you still get a great gaming experience. UderDeft makes it seem like you need to pay for every little thing with real money. This is not so. He also neglects to mention that they sell something called Platinum for the real money. Think of Plat like Microsoft Points. You then buy the levels and other items with the Plat. The ONLY thing requiring real money is the levels. The other Read More
The 30 Best iPhone Apps So Far This Year
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Aug 2010 18:12:54 UTC +00:00
Editor’s note: This guest post is written by Alex Ahlund, the former CEO and founder of AppVee and AndroidApps, which were acquired by mobile application directory Appolicious. About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that Read More

Best iPhone and iPad Games April 2010
Calendar16 Fri, 07 May 2010 18:57:11 UTC +00:00
Our April game ratings are in place now, and here are the top of the heap. Our monthly "best of" round-up summarizes the top rated games that we looked at in the previous month. Each game reviewed receives a 1-5 star rating relative to the other games from that month. Generally, a 3 or higher is considered a "good" rating. Our final scores are not the product of any traditional measures such as graphics or sound, but simply reflect the games we would most recommend to others. Chaos Rings - One of the most ambitious RPG games we've seen so far for the iPhone. The graphics and gameplay are exactly what you'd expect out of a Square Enix RPG. Battle in parties of two in classic turn-based battles as you make your way through a story that's just as ridiculous as any other Japanese RPG. (Review, App Store: iPhone) Babylonian Twins Read More
Pocket Legends: Ancient Swamps Update
Calendar16 Thu, 06 May 2010 16:45:40 UTC +00:00
By Matt Dunn, USAfor www.touchgen.com Published: May 6, 2010 Comment         I’m still playing this game. Are you? A couple weeks ago Spacetime Studios released a pretty major update to their MMORPG title, Pocket Legends. This update included the much-requested ability to gift items to friends, and several other improvements. As of today, Spacetime has released a new map pack called “Ancient Swamps”. This paid add-on raises the level cap from 30 to 35, and includes new maps, mobs, bosses, and loot! Check out a video of the expansion below. Even after buying all the expansions for this game, I’m still paying less than normal monthly MMO fees, and still having fun playing with my bro and sis. If you want to play with me, add me! My name is teegee. Pocket Legends is FREE on the iTunes Store. Remember to follow us on Twitter @TouchGEN Review disclosure: Any games Read More
Pocket Legends was a big hit with us when it released earlier this month. There was something special about having an full-blown 3D MMO playing in our hot little hands that really wow'd us, particularly as Pocket Legends actually had solid match-up mechanics and an action-packed gameplay to write home about. Since its release, developers Spacetime Studios have been hard at work pumping out server-side patches to address bugs, tweak balancing, and even introduce a new in-app purchasable level pack in the form of 'The Lost Expedition' -- a set of levels based on the frigid snowscape of a Yeti Fortress, complete with new ice weapons and armors. Perhaps even more exciting though is their first update to the application itself, requiring a traditional iTunes app update to patch your game to version 1.1. The full feature list is a long one, comprising of a raft of UI tweaks and bug Read More

Pocket Legends
Calendar16 Fri, 23 Apr 2010 18:20:32 UTC +00:00
MMO games have become one of the largest genres in video games with games like Warcraft dominating the online spade. Many different developers have aspired to bring that experience to the iPhone and some have come ridiculously close but not anywhere near the depth and fluidity of their PC counterparts. Pocket Legends is a new MMORPG for both the iPhone and iPad looking to take that challenge head on and man does it do a great job. The game is free for both devices with in-app purchases of new areas very similar to the downloadable content in other games. There are three different classes to choose from in the game, a warrior, archer, and enchantress. Each with their own focus, the game plays through like any other, upgrading your character and allowing you to choose how your character evolves. The game ran fine while I was playing and never lagged even Read More
This Week’s App Store Updates – 16th April 2010
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Apr 2010 17:23:07 UTC +00:00
Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are ten new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are: We’re real suckers for 8-bit gaming here at iPhonefreak, so we’re feeling pretty spoiled by Capcom’s release of this little game.  A sideways-scrolling shooter, there are three levels to shoot your way through, OpenFeint support and a new iPhone exclusive ending.  $2.99/£1.79. Backed by Smule, this app is for all the singers out there who love to join in with the hits from the TV show.  There are various tweaks to get the best out of your voice, but the real attraction of the Glee app is the connections you’ll make around the world, to the point where you record a song, invite friends to join in and then share it.  The app has a price tag attached, plus some of the songs are in-app purchases.  You’ll know if Read More
Too much free time? MMORPGs are storming the iPhone!
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Apr 2010 13:34:44 UTC +00:00
The one thing that iPhone users have been able to avoid thus far has been the enourmous time sucker known as MMORPG games. And don’t even think of mentioning iMobsters and the like – I think the creators of Mafia Wars should be impaled on the spot. Nevertheless, it seems the amount of free time you’ll have is soon going to decrease drastically. Two full-featured (well, almost) MMORPGs have just hit the AppStore and I’m talking, of course, about Pocket Legends (3D MMO) and the highly-anticipated IMO: The World of Magic. Both of the games are FREE, so there’s no need to think about it – just check them out! Or at least check out the descriptions and screens after the gap! Pocket Legends – 3D MMO App For iPhone
Calendar16 Fri, 09 Apr 2010 20:57:02 UTC +00:00
Pocket Legends is a great new 3D MMO App for iPhone. As far as role playing goes, it doesn’t get much better than this. The graphics are outstanding and the overall gameplaying experience is as close to anything you have played before on PC or Mac, its like a mini World of Warcraft in your pocket. In Pocket Legends you can take on the role of either a Sword Weilding Warrior Bear, an Avian Archer, who’s an expert hunter or a Mystical Elf that can summon up all of natures natural powers. Your mission is to save the kingdom from zombies, Yetis, demons, giant skeletons and crocodiles.  To help you on your, seemingly impossible, quest you can purchase upgrades, loot items from other players and enemies and customise your avatar with in app purchases. The developer promises that their servers can handle thousands of players worldwide so if you’re into MMO’s and Read More
Friday Five: April 9th
Calendar16 Fri, 09 Apr 2010 16:30:19 UTC +00:00
We bring you our weekly selection of five interesting apps that were released this week. This week was packed with iPad releases, but the iPhone side of the store still has tons of stuff to offer! This week’s Friday Five comes with the usual variety of five interesting new releases. It’s a good thing that Apple announced folders along with iPhone OS 4.0 yesterday…at the rate of awesome new apps, I know that I at least will be exceeding the current limit. With Apple’s announcement of an upcoming “Game Center” (aka, Xbox Live for the iPhone), it’s clear that they’re focused on the iPhone as a gaming device. But while we’ve got plenty of shooters, physics puzzles, racing games, and so on, there’s one genre that has yet to take off…massively multiplayer online games. Pocket Legends aims to change that with a game that could almost be dubbed “World of Warcraft Read More
'Pocket Legends' Free 3D MMO iPhone Client Released

Spacetime Studios' Pocket Legends [iPhone, Free / iPad, Free] has been the talk of the town since the iPad client was first released along side the iPad last Saturday. We've already posted about the game between its announcement and a comparison between both the iPhone and iPad clients. Also, we have threads in our forums for both the iPad and iPhone versions of the game if you're looking for someone to play with. So there you have it, both clients are now available, and completely free. People in our forums are loving the game, and while I haven't been able to invest too much time in to it yet, you've got nothing to lose by giving it a spin. : Christmas bonus seems a funny idea for this game (Santa Alien? Abizo79 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I sat in calculus class listening to my teacher give a boring lesson, but on the side I had my iphone whipped out and running around in the magical world within pocket legends. It really is something else, a smaller version of world of warcraft. The world was simply moving around me, with everything feeling alive. A giant bear with a crazy sword passes by me and says hi. Everything feels right. This game is the one you NEED if you life rpg's. You can play on the go (as long as u have wifi or 3g) It is a bit of a battery chugger, but it is so worth it. First 10 levels are free and it is ENTIRELY worth it. I actually plan on buying extra levels and dungeons!!! ITS THAT GOOD.
This is the real deal MMO!

I beta tested this game, and am so excited its finally been released for iPhone/iTouch. I'm not sure where to begin in terms of describing this game, there's so much included. You can crawl dungeons with friends, level up, there's tons of different of different armor & weapons. After leveling you can spend skill points, and there's some RPG elements. There's a lot of enemies to fight, and there's tons of dungeons [plus some extra via in-app purchase. There honestly is NO excuse why you shouldn't own this app. The folks at Spacetime Studios put a lot of time & love into this app, and its truly paid off. Whatever type of game genre you like, this game will satisfy it.

I am enjoying this game so far. I have a level 6 archer and have joined several groups without problems. Controls seem to work very well and the UI has been done with the iPhone in mind. I have been playing while hooked up to my home WiFi and have not had any lag. See you in-game!!
Cool but......

It's kinda confusing, and the controls are alittle shotty, other than that it's epic.

Finally someone took the time to do it right. If you are real mmorpg fan you will love this game. It's free, give it a try. If your new to mmorpg's you might feel a little lost but you'll quickly catch on.

I was waiting a good deal of time for this to be released, and it has!!! So now that it is, I can honestly say it doesn't dissapoint. I have not had any lag at all while I played, and it's just like WoW minus the rediculous fees necessary to play it. Great job guys!! Add me: xJavonta
stunning

Sure this game does not cost anything to download and play, but you should know that everything in game is geared to make you spend real money. This game is actually quite enjoyable, until you get to higher levels that is.At higher levels, the lack of in game gold, the lack of good equipment, and the difficulty of the monsters make a lousy gaming experience. You can be hardcore and tough it out, oh but look, you can buy elixirs that boost your armor and damage by 300% for real money. As if rigging the game mechanics to encourage spending real money to artificially boost your stats is not bad enough, the game developers are constantly coming up with new and novel ways to make you spend real money. Yes, I say that with sarcasm.Go to Spacetime Studio's forum and you can find multiple posts where people complain that the game developers have gone too far and have become way too greedy. With the amount of money that you will end up spending on this so called free game, mediocre graphics, and poor contents, this game is worth one star at most.
Best game ever!
