Here's A List of New Lite Versions to Check Out
Calendar16 Thu, 05 Apr 2012 12:00:10 UTC +00:00
It's great that there's so many games on the App Store that cost just a dollar or two, but as any avid iOS gamer can tell you, those little impulse buys can sure add up. And even when you do grab a game on the cheap, if it turns out to be a disappointment it can still sting no matter what the price was that you paid. As such, even when you're faced with making a purchase decision that amounts to less than you'd spend on lunch on any given day, it's nice to know that the game you're ponying up the dough for will be something that you end up enjoying. And that's where lite versions come in. They can give you a no risk way to check out a game before you fully commit, and possibly save you from wasting your hard-earned cash. Here's a list of some newer Read More

When it comes to mobile RPGs, there are a number of games that are certainly worth your time and money. Classic RPGs that have been ported to mobile devices, such as Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, and Chrono Trigger are paving the way for unique RPG experiences like Mage Gauntlet, Fara, and Pocket RPG to gain in popularity. One problem is RPGs tend to cost a bit more than most mobile games as developers put more time and care into them in order to offer a deep experience to the player. Free-toplay RPGs are nearly unheard of in the mobile games market, and that’s the niche ngmoco is planning on taking on with their upcoming game, Skyfall. The main focus in Skyfall is how the player explores their surroundings. You’ll tap th escreen in order to uncover one or multiple portions of the map in order to explore. From your exploration you’ll uncover chests, towns, resources, and bump Read More

There's quite a few good deals out -- this Bejeweled offer is especially one you shouldn't refuse! All solid deals for this weekend. Combine all of these games with the big releases from the week (Spy Mouse, Contre Jour, and others), and you should have plenty to play on iOS, all weekend long. Read More
TUAW's Daily iPad App: Pocket RPG
Calendar16 Tue, 02 Aug 2011 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Crescent Moon Games made the excellent Aralon for iOS in the past, and that was a full-fledged RPG, featuring a whole world to explore and lots of gear to collect and quests to complete. Now, the company's gone back to the fantasy well to deliver another hack-and-slash style RPG game, though this one is a little simpler (and a little more focused on just the dungeons). Pocket RPG is exactly what it sounds like: A colorful dungeon-crawler with three classes, a fun and slick style and some great dual-stick gameplay. If there's an issue with this one, it's probably that things are a little too simple. Each level is its own contained world, which means you're leveling up what's basically a separate character in each. Gameplay itself is pretty mindless, too -- there are a few special encounters to break things up, but you're pretty much just using a few different Read More
10 New App Store Games To Watch [July 11 - 17]
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Jul 2011 12:54:11 UTC +00:00
I’m sure the top story this week is 9mm from Gameloft, but I’m going to mention Pocket RPG, the latest offering from Crescent Moon Games.  This stylish RPG should be a treat for anyone that likes dual stick games or rougelike offerings.  I just wish they would have released the iPhone version first.  Racing seemed to be a prevalent theme this week.  If you enjoy futuristic jaunts you should check out Protoxide: Death Race from HeroCraft.  On the other hand, if you just want to cause havoc in the current era, Reckless Getaway might be more your style.  Finally, those that are more interested in proving their skills than causing any damage at all should consider Xtreme Wheels, a trial bike game that offers some really intense graphics given the game’s style of game play. – HeroCraft is probably most well known for some creative and fun puzzle games, but now Read More
Back in May, Crescent Moon Games announced Deadlock, a dual-stick shooter built around the idea of competitive online play, and released a brief teaser video showing off a small portion of the gameplay. It looked promising, and in fact, Crescent Moon isn’t acting alone on this release as Invulse Games is responsible for most of the production and Pocket RPG [$2.99] developer Tasty Poison Games has a hand in some of the artwork as well. In brief, Deadlock's focus is online multiplayer for up to 8 players with deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture & hold gameplay types. It will ship with 5 maps to start, with more planned for down the line, and a large assortment of weaponry and equipment which you can unlock and equip on your character as you level up and earn the 30 ranks in the game. For the shy gamers, you’ll be able to play a survival mode Read More

'Pocket RPG' for iPad Review – Dual Stick Looter
Calendar16 Fri, 15 Jul 2011 21:53:57 UTC +00:00
Crescent Moon Games' Pocket RPG [$2.99] got off to a bit of a rocky start on launch when it was released with some game killing bugs and pulled immediately from the store, but now those have been smoothed over, everyone with an iPad can freely stick an RPG in their giant pockets and take it for a spin. It's equal parts RPG, shooter and light-brawler depending on how you play and although it might seem shallow based on its name, it has a lot to offer. Pocket RPG can be played with three different character classes, Dark Ranger, Battle Mage and Blade Master. Each has their own skill sets and each play completely differently. If you're looking for a more straight-up duel-stick shooter, the Dark Ranger is for you. If you're into hack-and-slash, go for the Blade Master and if you're looking for a strange combo of the two, go for the Read More

Today's Wednesday game release fiasco is a little later than most for two reasons- First off, we're really stoked to have finally gotten our hands on the iControlPad, and I wanted to give that story as much attention throughout the day as possible since it's an accessory that many (us included) have been following since its inception. Secondly, we got an adorable addition to the family today, who will serve as mascot and guard dog to the TouchArcade command center. So, this week this standard feature is less of a "coming tonight" and more of a "coming in like a half hour or already out" post. There's a ton of great games out tonight, too. If you're new, here's how this works: iOS developers are able to set release dates for their apps in iTunes connect. The App Store is a global marketplace, and thanks to the magic of the International Read More

Looks Great, Plays So-So
Jaymus 3.0 stars Version: 1.07
The game looks great and it feels like a lot of effort went into quality control. My problem is with the game play style.I had read about how your character loses all XP, armor, etc.. with each new level, but wanted to give it a shot anway. Now after playing for about a week, I just don't feel the drive to keep playing. It just doesn't feel like your character "gets anywhere". It leaves me with a big feeling of "so what" since nothing you do carries over to any next level.

This is one of the few action games easily playable by an old fart like me. The controls work well even under fat thumbs. The graphics are bright & clear. The three characters are well differentiated both graphically and in game play.Well earned five stars.
Love it

Fun but short
Alex Bulloch 5.0 stars Version: 1.07
This game is awesome and very fun. But it's too short! About 5-10 hours of gameplay until you beat the game and there's nothing left to do. Please add more content, more skills and upgrades, and perhaps another class to play!
Addictive
Nema Safvati 5.0 stars Version: 1.07
Painless, intuitive controls mean you can play as long as you want without a headache! Just needs a way to keep an incentive to play after beating it.
Awesome
ColinKing123 4.0 stars Version: 1.07
Great game; colorful, smooth, and andrenaline is all packed into this small package. However, the small size of this package prevents it from 5 stars. Though you have 3 classes to play, there needs to be a change up, such as several new dungeons, costume items, more interaction (such as character story), and maybe several fighters at once. This game has a lot of potential, but CMG seems to be holding back...
Good

Took a leap of faith in buying this game, even though every review was positive. Now I'm glad I did!!! The graphics are amazing, never thought a phone could have such depth! I totally recommend trying this game, the price is very worth it. 
