Selena Gomez talks tech with TUAW

Before 2011, you probably only knew who Selena Gomez was if you had teenagers or younger children. But this year the young woman who plays Alex on Disney's Emmy Award-winning Wizards of Waverly Place has made her way into the mainstream spotlight. In the last twelve months she's starred in her second feature film, been hounded endlessly by paparazzi because she's dating one of music's biggest stars, was active in her role as a UNICEF ambassador, released (with her band) her third studio album while touring around the globe with them, and hosted the EMAs. And almost as if she's trying to squeeze everything possible into this year, she'll be working until the stroke of midnight on December 31st in New York where she'll be performing at MTV's live New Year's Eve special. Disney has also announced that the series finale of Wizards of Waverly Place will air in early January. Read More
Daily iPhone App: Postcard on the Run
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Dec 2011 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
I've traveled to over 30 countries since 2009, and today I wish I had brought Postcard on the Run with me. I've been using the app for the last few weeks and have become infinitely fond of it. Postcard on the Run lets you take a picture on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and turn it into a postcard that can be instantly snail-mailed to anyone in the world. I know, I know; that sounds suspiciously like an app by a certain company in Cupertino. But Postcard on the Run succeeds where Apple's Cards app consistently falls short. It's fun, it's uncomplicated, and it's even kinda kooky. When you launch the app, you're asked to select a photo to use as your postcard image. You can choose to either take a new photo, use an existing photo from your camera roll, or choose any photo you've posted to Facebook. That Read More

Don’t sleep on the Apple Cards app
Calendar16 Wed, 05 Oct 2011 21:16:18 UTC +00:00
If you’re disappointed with the iPhone 4S, the Apple Cards app isn’t going to make you feel better. Still, this little throwaway announcement shouldn’t be overlooked because it will be an interesting way to tie your digital life with your physical reality. The Apple Cards app is simple: You can choose a picture from your iPhone and then use the Cards app to send a physical greeting card to your friends, family or yourself. For about $3, you’ll be able to send this to anyone in the United States and a few bucks more will let you send it to anyone in the world. I live a very digital and mobile lifestyle – check out this super long video for an example – and I’m very happy to eliminate paper from my life. I haven’t had a printer in years and the only time it really bites me in the behind Read More

It looks like postcards are the new hip thing in mobile technology, as a new app company lets you use your iPhone to create and send postcards while you’re out and about. Postcard On The Run does exactly what the title implies: the iPhone app will let you use your phone’s camera to create postcards that will be created and shipped out by the company. Along with your photos you take on the phone, you’ll also be able to use your existing Facebook photos to create postcards. Postcard On The Run will take care of printing, postage and deliver and the it even says that if you don’t know the address, it will be able to find it via a service it calls Postal Gopher. I’ve downloaded the free app and it’s very easy to customize your own postcard, including being able to include a signature with your finger. I’m anxious Read More
Ex-MySpace VP Takes On Postagram With Postcard On The Run
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Sep 2011 17:00:07 UTC +00:00
Look out, Postagram: there’s another player embarking on the quest to turn everyone’s smart phone photos into real-world postcards. This morning, Josh Brooks (previously the VP of Programming and Music at Myspace and Head of Content at Project Playlist) is launching the endeavor he’s spent the last year working on: Postcard On The Run. It’s a quick, easy, and relatively cheap way to free your photos from the digital cage that is your iPhone’s photo library and get them into the mailboxes of your friends and family. They’re also launching as a platform to allow other developers to add photo printing/mailing to their own apps. I’ll be honest: I didn’t really get the concept at first. Having spent the last many years of my life living too many hours a day online, the idea of printing out a physical photo just to add a few lines of text and ship it Read More

So long, E-cards!

This app is truly brilliant. It delivers REAL POSTCARDS to friends and family straight from the phone. A high-tech / analogue marriage that's long overdue! I mean seriously, when was the last time you got a real postcard in your real mailbox? A super awesome, lazy-man's way to make someone's day.
Fantastic

Update: this app rocks!Original rating: Month later no postcard delivered, but sure had no problem charging me for it. Update: was contacted shortly after original review and they sent out a new one free of charge! Fantastic service!

I have been living in Madrid for a year and planning to stay for another and needless to say, traveling is a must!! I have been all over Europe and I love sending custom postcards to my family. They arrive much quicker and cheaper than sending cards from Europe!! Thanks Postcard On The Run!
Great looking postcards
Izzme1 4.0 stars Version: 2.3
I have tried it out three times and the postcards always came quickly. I ordered on the Friday before New Years and the cards arrived Wednesday. They are printed well on thick card stock. I can't speak for the color because all the photos i used I had converted to black and white for dramatic effect. I edit my photos in another app and then use them in this app. I wish they had a few more options like frames and the ability to change font size but overall I am pleased with the results. Be aware, The postcards are 4x6 and they expect about a 2 megapixel image so if you do a significant crop or use the front facing camera you will not be able to use those pictures with this app.
Crap!!! :(
Funkygrl1 1.0 stars Version: 2.3
This is crap! It won't let me use ANY photos I've already taken and none from FB. I'm trying to enter a contest with it that ends tomorrow but I won't get it done in time!! CRAP! Very unsatisfied!!!

Eddie Gonzalas 5.0 stars Version: 2.3
Just used this app to send out all of our holiday cards - completely amazing how easy to use it was a much cheaper the buying cards envelopes and stamps !!! Cards arrived promptly and was thrilled with the end result. I noticed people have mentioned that the app wouldnt let them use their photos - my understanding is that if the pics have a low quality resolution it won't send out the postcard - I personally think that is much better then sending out a low quality product.... I know for the pic we used we had a normal res file (less then 1 MB) and the quality of the image on the postcard was perfect - not sure what the lowest file it will allow is... Anyway, no complaints here and very happy customer - highly recommend.
