Posterous is updating its iPhone and Android apps today with support for a new creation called Spaces. In a nutshell, it’s exactly like Circles in Google+. Essentially, you can group all of your friends and family on Posterous into different groups (or “spaces”) so you can control who sees specific content you post. Now you might already be bored with this news because it seems like privacy is anyone is talking about nowadays, but Posterous has a unique marketing strategy behind Spaces. Posterous made a valid point that Google+ or anyone else ever bothered to make. In real life, we keep secrets from people all the time. We share them with friends or family we trust and avoid the big-mouths as much as possible. For a long time on the Internet, we have been unable to do this. Everything posted was visible to any friends. If you weren’t okay with that Read More
Ten ways to replace iWeb and MobileMe hosting
Calendar16 Tue, 14 Jun 2011 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Yesterday, we reported on a rumor that Apple's website creation software, iWeb, is about a year away from obsolescence, along with MobileMe's hosting of iWeb sites. An iWeb user allegedly sent Apple CEO Steve Jobs an email asking if he should start looking for another website builder and a new host, and Jobs provided one of his patented terse replies: "Yep." In my post about this, I mentioned some alternatives that TUAW readers might want to look at. Here I'm going to take a more detailed look at several easy website creation tools and hosting alternatives, so that you can start making your plans to move away from iWeb and MobileMe. I will not be covering professional web design tools in this post, as iWeb is designed for easy creation of sites. Instead, all of the suggestions I'll make here are aimed at the folks who just want to create a Read More
Dropbox in v1.4 mit Massen-Upload
Calendar16 Mon, 18 Apr 2011 14:14:56 UTC +00:00
‘WordPress for iOS’ mit Performance-Update
Calendar16 Thu, 17 Mar 2011 12:54:59 UTC +00:00
Keine spannende Überschrift, kein spannender Blog-Beitrag? Let’s see. Clever, weil der enorme Read More

Posterous has announced updates to its mobile apps, for both iOS and Android. The updated versions of the apps bring support for creating and managing Posterous Groups, which is an email list-like service that can be used either as a traditional email list, or as a group sharing service. Up until now, you could only set up a new group via email. Once a group is created its members can share text, images, videos, music, and other file types -- either by emailing that group's unique address, or, from now on, by using either of the Posterous mobile apps. Besides creating and viewing groups, the apps allow you to add group members from your mobile contacts and quickly interact with posts from other members of a group. With this release, Posterous is clearly shifting from its original focus of 'dead-simple blogging via email' and branching out into private sharing territory. Since Read More

Quick Look: Official Posterous App for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 19:00:36 UTC +00:00
I’m a fan of Posterous, but I don’t actually use it all that much. For a while, I was using the PicPosterous app for iPhone to share photographic memories of special events, but the app was limited and it didn’t take. Now, Posterous has released an official application. But is it enough to change my usage habits? First, I want to point out that I don’t actually need all that much in a Posterous iPhone app. The point of the service is to provide a dead simple blogging tool that just about anyone can pick up and use. Any iPhone app that interacts with the service should reflect that. The official app accomplishes this, and does so without feeling limited: a thin line to walk. PicPosterous, by contrast, doesn’t manage to stay on the fair side of that divide. It allows you to post pictures, and only pictures, to your Posterous Read More
New Apps for Your Smartphone, October Edition
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
There are some 225,000 mobile applications for the iPhone now and 70,000 for Android, so every so often we like to highlight a few that have caught our attention. This latest edition of our favorite smartphone apps includes a few in testing, a few we're madly in love with, some notable updates and some you may not have even heard of yet. Instagram (iPhone): OK, we're dubbing this one the "app of the month." Initially called Burbn, the original app was transformed into Instagram, a photo-sharing service and image editor. With a number of built-in filters, you can turn your iPhone photos into more attractive and interesting versions of themselves, then share them either publicly or privately with fellow app users. Your friends' photos are in a section called "Feed" and the most popular photos from across Instagram are found in the "Popular" section. While what Instagram is doing is not Read More
Official Posterous app now available for the iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 04:55:36 UTC +00:00
Posterous’ official app for the iPhone is now available in the App store. For those not familiar with Posterous, it is a blogging service that is meant to be easy to use and achieves this convenience by letting you manage many aspects of a blog via email. You can create posts, send images, embed videos, and even start a new blog by sending an email to the post@posterous.com email address. Posterous also serves as the hub of your online social presence with its autopost feature that publishes your content to services like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Vimeo, and more. Previously, mobile management of your Posterous-hosted blog was accomplished via email. You created posts by sending text and media content to your blog via SMTP. The recently released iPhone application changes all that and allows you to manage your blog(s) within an application interface. The blogging service did it right as the iPhone app has a Read More

Posterous Gets an iPhone App
Calendar16 Tue, 12 Oct 2010 19:19:41 UTC +00:00
Posterous, the minimalist blogging platform, may have allowed users to post to their blogs via email, or even the specially-formatted Posterous for mobile devices, but now it's gone that one extra step. Posterous for the iPhone is here, allowing users to post, manage their settings, upload media and even geo-tag their updates. The Posterous iPhone app does everything you want, from what we can see, aside from text formatting - but that's a relatively recent feature addition to Posterous that really took it beyond its roots anyways. The app allows users to post publicly or privately to any number of different Posterous sites they control. In addition to multiple sites, the new app will let you choose whether or not you want to auto-post your content to 26 different sites, from Facebook to Twitter to Flickr to YouTube and more. Posterous can even be an entry way to a Blogger or Read More
