‘Diet Coda’ fühlt sich durch Webseiten-Code
Calendar16 Thu, 24 May 2012 09:26:33 UTC +00:00
Dessen Untertitel, “Make quick web fixes on the go“, beschreibt dabei perfekt meinen Anwendungsfall.
The iPad as an IT professional's tool
Calendar16 Mon, 23 Apr 2012 16:30:00 UTC +00:00
John Welch over at Ars Technica wrote a wonderful post about using an iPad as a system administrator's tool, noting that Apple's tablet is "an addition, not a replacement" to the many tools that IT pros currently use to complete their daily tasks. Welch brings up points that I discovered when I first started taking my iPad along on client visits -- the size is right, the battery life is wonderful, and it's much more handy than a laptop or an iPhone. Note-taking, for example, is much easier to accomplish on the iPad, and it's possible to prop up the iPad for easy reading at a distance instead of squinting at a small screen. Welch notes that he's able to easily analyze data from Cacti or Nagios with just a glance, keeping an eye on how things are doing. With Welch's iPad, there's no waiting for a laptop to start up Read More

How to Use Prompt as a Mobile Terminal Alternative
Calendar16 Mon, 23 Jan 2012 23:45:46 UTC +00:00
Okay, so I’m switching gears a bit here and talking about an app that you can download from the App Store. Make no mistake, while I love jailbreak apps and tweaks, I also have love for many apps that can be found in the App Store. The App Store is loaded with myriads of quality apps, and Panic’s Prompt is one of them. Prompt is an SSH client, and a perfect alternative to Mobile Terminal for hardcore terminal users. Did you know It also allows you to browse the root structure of your iDevice’s file system if you’re jailbroken and have OpenSSH installed? Step 2: Download and install OpenSSH from Cydia. Step 3: Open Prompt, and use the following settings to connect to your iPhone’s root file structure. We’ve already gone in depth about what’s to like about Prompt before, so if you’re interested in some of its features give it Read More

Just what I needed
Aver2one 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I'm taking a system admin class and the terminal is 90% of my class, this works great on the go. Definitely worth the 5$UPDATE: It keeps getting better too, fixes and updates keep coming. Awesome app
Favorite ssh client for iPhone and iPad.

Clean and easy interface. Works great and has the features I want.
the best terminal client
jonathan miller 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is the best terminal client. It does one thing, so well: connects via SSH and then gets the hell out of your way. It supports bluetooth keyboards, including esc, control, and the arrow keys (a new addition) which puts it head and shoulders above every other terminal app I have tried. As someone who spends a fair amount of time in vim, having all the modifier keys work via bluetooth suddenly makes my ipad a notebook replacer. It doesn't do xterm, it doesn't have tons of fiddly knobs: it just connects fast and well. Worth many times the price.
Best SSH app
Not Durrett 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
Since version 1.1.1, Prompt is the best SSH app available for iOS. Unlike all other SSH apps, Prompt gets both of the two fundamental features of an SSH app right: (1) input, and (2) output. (1) Input: The bluetooth keyboard is excellent. Control, escape, and arrow keys all just work. The predictive autocomplete and the customizable onscreen keys seem nice too, for when you don't have a bluetooth keyboard handy.(2) Output: Earlier versions of Prompt had some problems with terminal emulation, but in version 1.1.1 these seem to have been mostly resolved, except for a few minor/occasional things. The font is attractive, too, although it would be nice to have more options for scaling the font - maybe a "medium" option so that about (but >=) 80 chars fit on the screen in landscape mode.
Saved my butt at the bar..
slikk66 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
On the same day I bought the app, it came up big. It's funny how many tiny features this app has that makes me keep saying 'wow'.. Previous command popups, shortcut keys etc.. This app has them all and for $5 on my iPhone and iPad.. If you need a client, I don't know what the others offer but this one has everything I can think of and more and has worked fantastic so far.
