Ramp Champ is an oldie but goodie from the App Store's earliest days. It's an old carnival bag tosser game that was originally put together by both Iconfactory and DS MediaLabs, and it was quite popular even before going free-to-play a while back. Ramp Champ been sitting quiet on the App Store for almost a full year now -- the last update was in last May. That will probably change very soon, however. The design studio noted on Twitter that DS MediaLabs has picked up the full rights to the game, and on its blog, that company says it is taking the reins, and plans to put some new content in Ramp Champ soon. All of the graphics will be configured for the Retina Display, and they'll add new ramps. So this is good news for Ramp Champ fans. The crashing roll of the balls after you drop your quarter, the swing, the drop in the rings. We spent a good deal of our childhood and our allowance pitching ball after ball up the ol' incline, but we rarely get a chance these days.  We're happy to say, all that has changed if only in a virtual sense. Our first game up is Freeverse, Inc's iOS version of the classic arcade game which comes in an iPhone version as well as a bigger brother iPad-sized version, and it's exactly as we remember it. Developer The Iconfactory, who most may know as co-developer of the game Ramp Champ [$1.99] or from the popular Twitter client Twitterrific [Free], have announced their latest iOS project titled Astronut. Astronut looks to have similar gameplay to Jump O'Clock [99¢], where you are launching a character upwards to various spinning discs, but in Astronut some of these discs appear to have gravity which adds quite an interesting element to this style of gameplay. The following teaser for Astronut doesn't show a whole lot of gameplay, but it does give you a quick glimpse of what the game should be like: So far the only details we have on Astronut is that there will be 24 levels across 6 different "sectors" and Game Center integration for leaderboards and achievements. After sampling the Iconfactory's other beautiful gems (including the amazing Twitterrific and the addicting Frenzic), I was super-excited to try their latest offering; and I was not disappointed. Ramp Champ is a game I never would have thought would work on the iPhone/iPod touch, but it works flawlessly. To put it simply, Ramp Champ is skee ball with a lot of fun and creative twists. At $1.99, Ramp Champ is a complete steal. The game comes with four unique skee ball ramps, and there are two $0.99 packs, with two ramps each, for sale (via in-app commerce). All of the ramps, designed by top-notch designers like David Lanham and Louie Mantia, are simply breathtaking, and all come with different targets and challenging goals. Doing well earns you tickets, which you can redeem for virtual prizes from a teddy bear to space ice cream (just like the astronauts eat!), and there is a trophy system to reward you for completing goals. Ramp Champ is one of the few "wow" apps of the year, and will have keep me addicted and satisfied for a long, long time.

Must have crashed 10 times in the last 30 minutes, at least. Once the crashing is fixed I will restore the review to a more approptiate level of stars.

What an experience! Ramp Champ is so finely crafted, from the gorgeously rendered graphics to the appropriately spooky soundtrack, it will pull you into its world immediately, and good luck if you can get out before your iPhone needs to be recharged. The levels are full of amazing little details, and they come fully alive. Every bit of the UI is stunning.

I didn't know what to expect from Ramp Champ at first, but knowing how much care and dedication The Iconfactory team puts into their products, I wasn't surprised to find out that they've put together a delightfully simple, gorgeous, and catchy game with Ramp Champ. Each "ramp" is beautifully designed to provide a unique gameplay experience, complete with beautiful artwork and cute sound effects to match. The Goals system prompts further exploration into each ramp's offerings, revealing hidden gems along the way (duckies!), and the tickets for redeemable prizes are just icing on the cake. Easy to pick up, difficult to master, and fun to play!

First, I just need to say that Ramp Champ is beautiful. It is by far the most well-designed game for the iPhone, and I might even say it's the best-designed app, period. Every piece of the interface has been custom-built to perfection, and yet somehow it still "feels" iPhone. The little touches like zooming in on your prizes and trophies are breathtaking. They may seem simple to some, but I know they took tons of work. There's not a single flaw in the way this game is designed. The sounds and music are really great, too.

After hearing all the hype about this game then finally seeing screenshots in the app store of what the gameplay actually was going to be, I was a bit skeptical. How good could a game like this be? Well, insanely good, that's how good! The game requires skill and even some strategy at times. It is suprisingly deep with all the goals and prizes you can acquire. Who knew I'd be wanting a space shuttle toy so bad?? It most definitely lived up and even surpased the hype that it was given. Great great job guys! Thanks so much for such an awesome game.

I absolutely love Ramp Champ! I used to play other ski ball type games and now those applications are gone. Ramp Champ has replaced all of them. The UI is stunning. The execution impecable. The concept is simple. The game play is enjoyable. The experience is wonderful. Maybe now that 1.0.1 is out, people will stop complaining that it crashes on their old iPhone. It works great on the 3GS!

This is a really nice game I even bought the two add-ons. It has one of the best graphics I've seen on my ipod touch but I didn't give it 5 stars because of the crashes. It has crashed two times on me right after I've finished a goal so I have to do the goal all over again which is really frustrating. Also the aiming isn't precise. Please fix these bugs and I will definitely give this game a well deserved 5 stars.

I love rampchamp and its beautifully detailed UI! It Does not crash anymore and it's snappier with 1.01. That's why I can go back to 5 stars and I really enjoy it a ton! I find myself playing the whole time and collecting prizes and trophies! It becomes hard though and it makes me come back to play over and over again! I've only had this app for a short time, but I can already tell you it's great. The graphics are very nice, everything in the gameplay seems to work smoothly and there are a lot of extras. From trophys to prizes to addons (at a reasonable $.99 a pop), there's a lot to keep you going. The four levels that come preloaded are very dynamic and fun, and if you ever get bored, you can purchase one of the aforementioned addons, which include two extra levels and prizes. I think there are four or five addons at the moment available. Overall, a fun game, and it's free (for a while) so get it already!

This game is pretty much what you would figure, fun and free. I have one small suggestion: it would be nice if when the tickets show up, you can not tear them and they keep adding up as long as you restart at the same skee ball course, that way it would be more like when you're a kid and keep rackin up the tickets before you tear off a nice rope of them.

This is the only game that's kept me interested for as long as it has. It's so well-polished and visually appealing. The gameplay is simple enough to pick up but difficult to master -- the goals and achievements are not easy! They're far more rewarding, however, than any other game's achievement system -- not just a simple check list of things to do, but really beautiful tokens that the creators obviously spent a lot of time designing. You really WANT to keep playing to collect them all. The entire experience is so thoughtfully themed to an old-timey carnival, from the detail of the graphics to the lighting to the calliope music to the ambient sound and sound effects. One really gets immersed in the pursuit of those lovely pixel prizes.
