Need some games to show off that new iPad's Retina Display and LTE capability? These games will help. Just bought a new iPad? Congratulations. Sure, tweets may come in clearer than ever, and videos at 1080p quality, but what’s the real way to show off that beautiful new 2048×1536 screen? With games, of course! And how about some online games to take advantage of the LTE option available? Yes, please! Here’s ten titles that show off just how crisp the new iPad’s Retina Display looks. Mass Effect: Infiltrator: This Mass Effect spinoff, developed by Iron Monkey Studios (Dead Space for iOS), has just been updated with iPad Retina Display support. It’s now pushing over three times the pixels as the console Mass Effect 3. Our own Rob Rich called it “the best cover shooter on the App Store,” which makes it a great and stunning way to rebound from the polarizing Read More

Apple showcases apps ready for the retina iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 16:15:32 UTC +00:00
Apple wants you to enjoy that brand new retina iPad and has compiled a list of apps that are ready for the high-resolution display. It includes many of the big-name apps that were quick to get their app updated after Apple’s iPad announcement last week. The list includes entertainment apps, productivity apps, games, and more. Kelly spent the last three years covering mobile technology at places like BGR, Gizmodo and The Unofficial Apple Weblog. Before writing, she spent a few years working with and teaching others how to use Adobe Flash and Macromedia Director. Even earlier than that, she spent six years working on her Ph.D in Microbiology. When she's not writing, she can be found fishing the lakes and hiking the mountains of Western Maine with her husband and children. Read More
The Retina display on the new iPad, available Friday, is absolutely stunning. However, the increase in resolution actually makes some older apps appear all pixelated and gross. You don’t want to show off your brand new iPad and leave your friends with the impression that the screen on your new tablet is any less clear than a shimmering pool of unicorn tears. Here are several iPad apps that have been updated with Retina-ready graphics so everyone within eyesight can witness the pixel-pushing power of your new Apple tablet. Besides the titles that were featured in the iPad introduction event, Apple has setup a new section on the iTunes App Store to highlight Retina-ready titles. I’ve handpicked a few titles from this list and from other updates I’m aware of for you to try out. List of Games Updated for the New iPad Retina Display
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 11:00:38 UTC +00:00
Arguably the biggest addition to this year's version of the iPad (or at least, the most immediately noticeable one) is the inclusion of a Retina Display screen that ups the resolution to a monstrous 2048 x 1536. As anybody who has upgraded from an older device to an iPhone 4 or an iPhone 4S, you know that the Retina Display screen is a stunning upgrade in person and makes all other mobile device screens look inferior in comparison. Such is the case with the new iPad's fancy screen, it really needs to be seen to be believed. For anybody upgrading to a new iPad today, or if this is your first foray into the world of the iPad, then chances are you're interested in having the games that can show off the new screen as you gloat to your friends. Here we've compiled a list of games that have been updated Read More

Real Racing 2 brings Party Play
Calendar16 Wed, 12 Oct 2011 15:41:01 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Wednesday, Oct 12, 2011 | Real Racing 2 and Real Racing 2 HD have been updated to support their newly announced feature, Party Play. With Party Play, up to 4 players can play in a split screen on your HD TV. The only catch is that at least one player must be using an iPhone 4S or iPad 2. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – I’m very excited to try this out! Party Play takes AirPlay to the next level of iOS gaming, facilitating wireless local multiplayer for up to 4 players simultaneously in a split screen display output to your HD TV using an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S as the host. Play in the comfort of your own home and experience the joy of championship racing with iOS 5. Here’s a list of all the updated features: Real Racing 2 is available Read More
Some revolutionary changes from the masters of getting the most out of iOS. As we’ve seen, the iPhone 4S and iOS5 has been announced and with it has come a whole bunch of different features for app developers to implement in their products. Historically, it’s always been Firemint and the Real Racing series that has been first to introduce such features such as iPad 2 optimization and 1080p output. It’s no different this time round with numerous features being added to Real Racing 2 and Real Racing 2 HD. As predicted earlier in the year, AirPlay support will be added so that players can stream the game to their HD TV. Dual screen functionality will also be possible with real time racing telemetry on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. More entertainingly is the addition of Party Play for 2 to 4 players, enabling players to play split screen local multiplayer Read More

Real Racing 2 HD To Offer AirPlay
Calendar16 Thu, 09 Jun 2011 14:30:33 UTC +00:00
Jeff already discussed the potential of AirPlay mirroring and it sounds pretty exciting. Now, the idea is becoming reality. Consistently revolutionary Real Racing 2 HD, already famed for going 1080P when using an external monitor, has extended this further by offering streaming. It’s impressive stuff but come the release of iOS 5 later this year, it’ll be possible to stream Real Racing 2 HD to a big screen TV over AirPlay providing a completely wireless experience. It all sounds wonderfully futuristic being able to transfer the iOS gaming experience to a TV without even needing any wires. Real Racing 2 HD already looks gorgeous on the iPad 2 so it’ll no doubt look just as tremendous when it hits the big screen. The update should come along around the same time as the release of iOS 5 in the near future. Real Racing 2 HD is available now for the iPad Read More
Read More

Real Racing 2 HD now supports 1080p TV out on the iPad 2
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Apr 2011 21:24:11 UTC +00:00
I received an e-mail from Firemint earlier today that announced that the Real Racing 2 HD update, featuring 1080p output to your local high definition television, has gone live. You’ll need an iPad 2, a $9.99 copy of Real Racing 2 HD, an HDMI output cable (though can VGA work for non-HD goodness, as well), and of course an HDTV. Once you have those components linked and loaded, you’ll be ready to race at 30 frames per second, using the TV as your cockpit view and the iPad 2 as your dashboard, as in the screenshot above. I only own an iPad 2 and am missing all of the other components, but if any of you fine couch racers try this out, please share your feedback with us in the comments. This is definitely some very cool stuff. Read More
Apple Moving Closer to the Console Space With iPad
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Apr 2011 19:01:55 UTC +00:00
Taking the iPad 2 to the TV Real Racing 2 HD is an iPad racer. The game's latest update makes good use of the iPad 2's ability to output video at 1080p. In this game, the player can use the iPad for the tilt controls while the track map displays on the tablet's screen. On the television, you see your game at 1080p and 30fps. Wow. The downside is that you have to have your iPad wired with that HDMI cable and the dongle. Still, this is a sign of things that are possible with iOS. We are personally interested in what can be done when this stuff becomes more seamless with Apple TV. We read (via Kotaku) that players can disconnect from the TV on the fly, meaning that they can switch between TV and iPad as they please, with no issue. Imagine playing at home then disconnecitng and continuing Read More
Real Racing 2 HD for iPad Receives 1080p Video Out Support
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Apr 2011 18:29:48 UTC +00:00
We’ve already seen what the iPad 2 is capable of when you connect it to an HDTV and that’s why today’s news from Firemint has gotten us all excited. They’ve released a new update for Real Racing 2 HD that will allow you to play the game on your HDTV at 1080p. If you aren’t a tech guru and don’t know what that means, it means that Real Racing 2 HD will look really, really good when you connect it to your HDTV. Real Racing 2 HD will perform at 30 frames per second at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 when connected to an HDTV. Your HDTV set will display the race in all of its 1080p sexiness, while your iPad will become a real-time telemetry will give the player important information such as race position, speed, and lap time. Real Racing 2 HD: the First iPad 2 Game to Output in 1080p
Calendar16 Fri, 25 Mar 2011 22:14:50 UTC +00:00
Check out a video demonstration below. Firemint today announced that its next major update to Real Racing 2 HD will bring full 1080p-out support for the iPad 2. Although the iPad 2 itself only displays video in 1024×768 at the highest, with the use of the iPad HDMI adapter, it can output 1920×1080 video to a monitor or television that supports 1080p, which is exactly what Real Racing 2 HD will do. Firemint did not say exactly when this update will be released– just that it’s coming in the “next major update.” Color us excited for this high resolution treat! Real Racing 2 HD is one of the most impressive racing titles on Apple’s iOS. It features a 10-hour single-player campaign and gorgeous 3D visuals. The game has an average rating of 4.5 stars on the App Store and nearly 1,000 user reviews, while the iPhone version of the game garnished Read More
You didn’t buy your HDTV for nonsense like hi-def PS3 or Xbox 360 games or silly Blu-Ray movies. You bought that giant honking screen in the hopes that, one day, some crazy iPad developer would let you use your iPad as a steering wheel in a blazingly fast racing game. That day is almost upon us. The upcoming update for Real Racing 2 HD for iPad ($9.99) will support 1080p video out so that you can put that A5 chip, accelerometer, and gyroscope to help you drive your  to victory at a sweet 30 frames per second. The press e-mail I received didn’t mention a release date, but I’m guessing it should only be a matter of weeks, so fasten your seatbelts and make sure you have an iPad 2 AV adapter at the ready. iPad 2: Taking Advantage of the Gyroscope

posted by D. St. Charles on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 8:40 pm.   Much ado was made about the addition of a gyroscope at the Apple keynote release of the iPad 2. Apple asserts that the integration of the gyroscope, compass and accelerometer will improve games, maps and other apps significantly. The demonstration app Gyroblox ($2.99, available for the iPhone 4) was used to demonstrate the new hardware. Users who have downloaded the “game” have been disappointed. To better experience the potential power of the gyroscope, gamers may be more interested the suggestions of MacLife, which lists seven games which better take advantage of the hardware new to the iPad 2. However, some of the iPad versions of the games have yet to be updated for the gyroscope. The list includes Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD ($6.99), Jenga HD ($.99), Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus ($6.99, iPod Touch/iPhone 4 version), N.O.V.A. 2 ($6.99 – again Read More

AnandTech benchmarks the iPad 2, shows huge graphics gains
Calendar16 Sun, 13 Mar 2011 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
AnandTech is in the midst of a lengthy analysis of the iPad 2's hardware. The results so far confirm what most of us already knew: the iPad 2's display is virtually identical to the original iPad, the cameras are nothing to write home about, and the CPU is slightly more powerful. What's most revealing in AnandTech's testing is how greatly improved the iPad 2's graphics are compared to the original iPad. AnandTech tested the iPad 2's PowerVR SGX 543MP2 GPU against the original iPad and the Motorola Xoom, and the iPad 2 outperformed both of them significantly. More than that, actually -- in terms of performance on AnandTech's benchmarks, the iPad 2 destroyed both the original iPad and the Xoom. Neither device was even close to replicating the iPad 2's graphical performance. A handful of developers have already pushed out updated apps that take advantage of the iPad 2's graphics hardware, Read More

On a gloomy and rainy day in Boston, I stood around with hundreds of other people to secure myself an iPad 2. It had potential to be miserable, but thankfully Apple provided some really awesome umbrellas in addition to the normal array of beverages and snacks they usually give to people standing in launch day lines. There have been a number of review on the device already, so I'll just focus on how the device works in games. (Although, I will say you must get a smart cover, they're awesome.) Unsurprisingly, everything I've tried seems to run substantially better across the board. Games that previously chugged on the iPad now run at or near a solid 60 FPS. In fact, I've yet to play a single iPad game on my iPad 2 that didn't perform phenomenally. It's fantastic, as over the last year of talking to developers I've heard many tales Read More
