Two days ago, Retronyms released an update to their popular Recorder iPhone app, bringing it up to version 10. I’ve been using this app since it first came out to record all sorts of things such as meetings and sometimes just to take notes. It’s got an easy to use interface and is constantly being updated and improved. The WiFi sync option makes it as easy as possible to download your recordings onto your Windows or Mac based computer. When Retronyms released their update and I went to read the description of what was new, I was shocked to read that they has implemented a call recording feature. Welcome to tonight’s edition of Popular iPhone App Updates. Once again it’s slim pickings in terms of app updates but there are two new ones tonight that are big. First off, Recorder, one of the very first recording apps released in the App Store has been updated to version 10. The description of the update says “We’ve added the ability to record phone calls via and external source.” This has the potential to be ground breaking as there are currently no apps with that ability in the App Store. I like this recorder but I have some tips to make it more user friendly: it is easier to use if you flip your iPhone upside down. This allows the record button to be tapped much easier with your thumb, also allows you to talk into the mouth piece and because the speakers are on the bottom of the phone ( ipone flaw ) by flipping it upside down during record and play back it allows the sound to be directed up toward your ears. Perhaps the developer could rework this so that the words would be in the right direction when using it as I suggest. Also it would be nice if the record and stop would change to a different color to help identify which mode you are in at a quick glance. Should be able to do multiple deletes instead of one at a time. Don't get me wrong .... I like this app and I'm going to use it everyday, it is a great buy as is. I just see the potential to be great!

Looks great, EASY, but needs a pause button, ability to name recording what you want, and a stop button when replaying a recording. Right now I have to drag slider to far right to stop a recording play back or click completely out of program. .99 for this simple program though is worth it. More money for what's there? No. Make above changes and I'd gladly pay more. Keep your sale price going until next update. Hoping you update soon. Thanks for program!

Design is VERY nice; it's both simple and elegant—looks like a native application that Apple would have included with the iPhone themselves. I found two negatives, however. The volume level seems a little low, which may be a limitation of the iPhone's speaker. I'm hoping to use this to record lectures in class, but I don't think the mic will pick up very well. Secondly, the email option is great, but it's implementation is a little weird. You don't actually send the audio file as an attachment; it's uploaded to a server and a link to download it is sent in the email. I suppose that's okay, but let's hope that a future update allows for actually attaching the recording to an email.

I use this recorder as gtd "universal capture" device. Evernote, Jott and others are good at what they do (I use Evernote to capture web sites), but lack the simplicity and elegance of this little recorder. It hasn't crashed on me yet, and the sound is fine even when leaving a note while it's on the car dash. It was odd seeing three really negatve reviews in a row...a sneaky competitor perhaps???

This app is OK for $.99. But that is only if you want to waist a buck. The sound quality is scratchy and faded and it doesn't even have the ability to be renamed. I wish I could give this app a better review but then I would be lying. If you haven't already bought this app, don't. If you want to take my word, buy voice notes instead. Plus you'll save almost a buck. That is like saving a quart of gasoline( just to put it in perspective).

I've tried 10 times to sync the new update and I always get a message that it can't be synced because of an unkown error. And I'd like to be able to use it to record phone conversations, but you can't do it. I'm going to try to use the other voice recorder. This is a new review. Now I have a week of trying to upgrade. I keep on getting an unknown error message OXE800002E. I wrote an email to customer support and have yet to get a response. Don't get this app as there are other recording apps here that are better.

I wasn't too pleased with the transfer capabilities of this app when I first got it. I had long files and was not able to email myself any links. But with the addition of WiFi Sync, I saw all my recordings (including the 400 mb monster file) and began to download before going to sleep! Definitely made this app worth it for me now. My recordings are saved and I'll continue to use this app.
