Homescreens – Oktober 2011 (iPhone + iPad)
Calendar16 Mon, 17 Oct 2011 09:09:11 UTC +00:00
Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More
Meanwhile, iMovie for iOS version 1.2.2 is also available. According to Apple, this update "...addresses minor issues and expands support for videos imported from external cameras." Please note: you won't be able to install these updates until you've got iOS 5 running on your device. Go and grab them now. Happy updating! Read More
In a review of Sherry Turkle's book Alone Together, John Battelle notes a familiar experience in regards to technology: "this cake ain't baked. I mean, think about it. Facebook: Not quite right. Smart phones? Not quite right. Desktop computing? Even though we've had nearly three decades of interaction, it's still not quite right." This issue is only going to get worse, as more and more devices get connected to the Internet. John referenced several separate instances of not fully baked cakes... er, products. Those issues are magnified when a lot of imperfect products are connected together in a network, whether it be a home or work network - or the Internet at large. Plus those products run on software that is never perfect and is always being iterated on (an Operating System, as probably the biggest example). And did I mention the problems with syncing data across different devices? I'll give Read More
TiPb Picks of the Week
Calendar16 Sat, 21 May 2011 19:23:33 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, May 21, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! Taking credit card payments can be a big expense for businesses – especially for small businesses that are just starting up. Who wants to pay all those merchant fees? The first thing I did when we looked at credit card options for our business was to look at ways to take them through our iPhones and iPads. When I heard about Square several months back, I knew we had to try it. We really couldn’t Read More
iTunes 101: Multiple Devices, One iTunes Account
Calendar16 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 18:02:49 UTC +00:00
Whether you’re using an old iPhone as a GPS, or one of your children is using an old device as a hand-me-down, you may want to manage multiple iOS devices from one and only one iTunes Account.  This includes, but is not limited to, managing a mix of iPads, iPods, iPhones, Apple TVs, MacBooks, etc., all from the same iTunes Account.  Here are some things to consider when setting up multiple Apple products with a single iTunes Account. You may have noticed that iTunes is limited to authorizing only five computers with each iTunes account. This means that you can only authorize five separate Mac or PC computers or user accounts to playback protected iTunes content or use Home Sharing using a single iTunes Account.  For example, if you have created five different user accounts on the same computer, and have authorized iTunes for each user account on that one computer Read More
Apple Releases Remote 2.1.1 - Includes Minor Fixes
Calendar16 Thu, 17 Mar 2011 12:52:30 UTC +00:00
By – Tired of that old remote that came with your Apple TV? Apple recently released Remote 2.1.1 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, an update to their software allows iDevices to control Apple TV and iTunes over wifi. The Remote application is free for your device and makes it much easier to control Apple TV. As anyone with the pack-in Apple remote probably knows, it’s not the best for navigating and searching for content. Remote makes all that easy by giving you access to a keyboard and easy playback controls that would be impossible with a standard remote control. Those who don’t have Apple TV can use it to remotely control their playlist on iTunes. Though it may not make much of a difference if you tend to be near your computer (as we do) while listening to your iTunes music. Oh well, it’s still pretty nifty. Here are some Read More

iOS 4.3 spotlight: iTunes Home Sharing
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Mar 2011 19:05:00 UTC +00:00
iOS 4.3 is now available for download, and along with it comes iTunes Home Sharing -- the ability to stream your entire iTunes library to your iDevice over Wi-Fi. Previously, you could use Apple's Remote app to control and play an iTunes installation on another computer, but this is different. With iTunes Home Sharing, the audio from files stored elsewhere actually comes out of your iOS device, so you can listen to iTunes while on your treadmill, or stream a movie to your iPad on the couch. Note that Home Sharing requires an Apple ID, and all of the standard license requirements apply. One fun way to use this: try streaming music out to your dock in the bedroom. Your complete iTunes library is now available anywhere in the house! Home Sharing is found in the iPod settings on your iOS devices. Read More
Free App Friday: Strength Through Wi-Fi

Posted 02/11/2011 at 10:57am | by Florence Ion It seems like everything's got Wi-Fi these days: smartphones, tablets, weather monitors, baby monitors--even children's toys. More than we'd like to admit it, if it weren't for Wi-Fi, we might not know what's going on at all times of the day. But there are other uses for Wi-Fi than merely surfing the internet. More specifically, Wi-Fi can be used to stream movies, control your Mac and--hey!--get you on the internet when you're in a far away country. This week, we highlighted three free apps that stream movies between your Macs, let you control iTunes or Apple TV with your iOS device and find a Wi-Fi hotspot in Sweden without even connecting to the internet. Maybe you're not too interested in using an iPad or iPhone to watch video, or maybe you don't even have an iOS device to utilize in this manner. That's Read More

Apple's All-Time Top 10 Free iPad Apps
Calendar16 Thu, 20 Jan 2011 20:24:44 UTC +00:00
Yesterday, we went over the top 10 free iPhone Apps available on the App Store (the paid apps, too). It was a list of the most downloaded free applications of all time. While it may not always reflect the quality of each App, it does indicate their popularity. That said, there are also plenty of iPad Apps that are getting attention. Here's a List of the most popular:    Pandora on the iPad is great for listening to music while you browse, or catch up on your RSS feeds. You simply search for the artist or music you want to listen to and hit play. There's a lot to listen to on Pandora radio, and it's a free App worth taking a look at. Connecting to Denon’s A/V Receivers — Now With AirPlay
Calendar16 Mon, 10 Jan 2011 19:00:20 UTC +00:00
There are no less than six distinct means of accessing your iTunes media (with or without an iOS device) on one of Denon’s new A/V receivers.  And now Denon has finally followed through on their September announcement regarding AirPlay, bringing the total to seven.  So how does the new AirPlay support stack up to the other six options?  To find out, I took a look at one of the new AVR-4311CI receivers Denon has in its lineup. The chart below indicates at a glance what each connection solution does and doesn’t provide. Read on for more specific details about each potential solution. Direct USB Connection. The cheapest way to get your music going is to use the USB cable that came with your iOS device. While there’s a USB port both in the front and the back of the AVR-4311CI, only one works at any given time. For the price, you can’t Read More
Parents, the safest way to keep your kids from accidentally spending your money in any of the iTunes stores, including the App Stores, is to give them their own iTunes Account that doesn't have an associated credit card. Whether you want to let your kids play around safely, or just don't have a credit card, you can use an Apple Account with no credit card to try one of the hundred free apps in the new Mac App Store or download free apps on an iPhone or iPod touch. You can't create an account in the main iTunes Store without a credit card, but you can from the App Stores. From iTunes, if you're already signed into an account, sign out.
Read More

Apple Remote app updated to include AirPlay support
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Dec 2010 13:45:15 UTC +00:00
Apple recently updated its Remote App to include AirPlay support, playback control of rented content and more. For Apple TV users, the app lets you use a touch-based keyboard to enter text which is so much easier than the on-screen alphabetical keyboard of the Apple TV. The Remote app also lets you control the playback (rewind, fast forward, and shuffle) of tracks within iTunes. Playlist support is also built-in, so you can can edit and create both regular and Genius playlists using your iOS device. Apples aktualisiert iOS-Fernbedienung (2.1)
Calendar16 Wed, 22 Dec 2010 21:23:01 UTC +00:00
Read More

Best Utilities of 2010

With all the utilities and useful tools found on the App Store it’s hard to know what’s useful and what’s just digital junk. We’ve put together a short list or our favorites just to make it a bit easier for you to find some stuff that you may actually like. Some of these Apps are practical (remote), others are things we ourselves use everyday (iTeleport) and others are just fun little Apps that we enjoy from time to time (App Stream). Why not take a look at our list of Best App Store Utilities  of 2010? iTeleport is a pricey little App, but we love the heck out of it. It gives you VNC access from your iPad to your computer. In English, that means it lets you control your computer (seeing the desktop and everything on your iPad) remotely on the iPad screen. It takes a little bit of getting Read More
iPhone cheese dock, just in time for the holidays
Calendar16 Mon, 20 Dec 2010 21:45:00 UTC +00:00
So you're having a holiday party this week and want to throw in a little Apple flavor to the whole thing. If you're Ally Fontaine, a reader over at iPhone Savior, you apparently take an iPhone dock and stick it in a big block of Pepper Jack to make an iPhone cheese dock. Weird? Yes. Festive? Very. Tasty? Indeed. I like it, though I hope she washed the dock before it went in there. Apparently there's a space carved out for the hardware, and the app on screen is Santa's Little Helpers, a risque little pin-up app (I'd have gone with Apple's Remote, maybe let cheese-eaters change the Christmas music at the party). There's a Steve Jobs bobblehead in the back, crackers to go with the cheese around the block, and those aren't tomatoes all sliced up there -- they're McIntosh apples, of course. Clever. If you have an Apple-inspired holiday Read More
The 3 Ghosts of Christmas Family “Techspertise”
Calendar16 Mon, 29 Nov 2010 21:51:38 UTC +00:00
If you are your family’s resident geek, you get a lot of tech-related questions. They can range from tech support to questions about what you think the future of tech looks like. Here are a selection of questions of holidays past, present and future you either have encountered or will encounter, and some possible answers for each. What virus scan software do you use? I was asked this question so many times I had to come up with an answer for the PCs in my life. So I looked around, and thankfully, Patrick Norton on The Screen Savers (yes, that long ago) once reviewed AVG Free, so I tried it on an XP machine and started answering “AVG” when asked this question. On a Mac, well that’s a different story entirely. How often do you defrag your hard drive? While a common practice on Windows, I haven’t performed this task very Read More

Review: Our Hands-On With Apple's New Remote App
Calendar16 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 19:41:19 UTC +00:00
What is it?   The Apple TV Remote App has been a long-time personal favorite. It uses an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad (upscaled with the previous release) to create a remote control for your Apple TV or iTunes playlist over wifi. Even cooler, the fact that you can sync it to multiple devices, meaning it could be connected to several computers or perhaps Apple TV units. The best thing about the App was that it eliminated the need for that little Apple remote that came packaged in with the set-top box. It was great for navigation, but anyone who has used it knows that it's a nightmare to type with. The Remote App let you type with the iOS onscreen keyboard, which shaved off a lot of time for doing searches. Still, it's been a long time since the software was released. So long, in fact, that Read More
Apple Remote Finally Updated

By Chris Hall on September 28th, 2010 Apple remote is finally updated. After a good long year of waiting, the guy that was too busy to update the Remote app has apparently found enough free time to build an update. The new update brings the amazing Remote functionality to the iPad and has finally given the retina display treatment for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Home sharing is also supported now, which lets the remote app pick up shared iTunes folders that are on the home network. Most importantly though, at least in the eyes of Steve Jobs, the new Remote update supports the Apple TV which will be shipping soon. If you missed the boat on the whole Remote app because of its lack of buzz over the last year, now’s the time to download. The app gives you absolute control of your computers iTunes program, letting you change the Read More

Apple updates Remote app to work with iPad and new AppleTV
Calendar16 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
Apple's Remote app was one of the best early iPhone apps, but it's been ages since an update. Well, Apple was finally forced to give Remote a little refresh, because the software has to keep up with Apple's new hardware. Most of what's new in Remote is compatibility with the latest Apple devices: it's got Retina-friendly graphics for the iPhone 4, native graphics for the iPad, the ability to run in the background, and compatibility with the new AppleTV. The big thing, other than the sharp new look, is support for Shared Libraries. That means you can access all your stuff when you've got a home network running on iTunes, like a Mac plus an Apple TV, or one laptop and one desktop media center. Remote can also control the volumes on all your shared speakers at once. Hot! Yes, it took a long, long time -- but I can forgive Read More

First Look: Updated Apple Remote app on an iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
As we reported earlier, Apple has updated the free Remote app for iPhone and iPad. It's about time. The new version looks fine on the iPad since it is not up-scaled. To pair the Remote software to your iTunes library, you must enter a 4-digit code* into iTunes on your Mac. From there, you are on the way. You only need to pair once. Control over Wi-Fi is fast and responsive. The iPad makes a really nice remote for controlling media. Sonos will also soon offer an iPad remote (to join its popular iPhone app) for its whole house music system, and there are a few more solutions out there. On the iPhone or iPod touch, the app looks quite nice, and it supports the Retina display if you have appropriate hardware. By – Now available as a free download from the App Store, version 2.0 of Apple's Remote app is now optimized for both the iPhone 4's Retina display and the larger screen real estate of the iPad.  (Don't feel left out, iTouch owners, Remote'll play nice with you, too.)  Using your home Wi-Fi network, you can control both iTunes and the new iOS-based Apple TV, easily controlling playback and even using the QWERTY keypad to find content.  If you have AirPlay speakers installed, you can even adjust each individual speaker from the app.  Shared libraries are supported, as well as creating and editing both personal and Genius playlists.   Download it here. Read More
Remote 2.0 Now Available in App Store

Posted 09/28/2010 at 7:30am | by Seamus Bellamy We can't think of a better way to start our morning than by hearing the news that a much needed--and much anticipated--update to Apple's free remote app for iOS has finally been made available in the App Store. You may recall that a while back, we let you in on the fact that the first iteration of Remote was built by a single developer, which may well have attributed to why it's taken so darn long for an update to crop up. No matter whether the 2.0 version of the application was built by the same fellow or a million-strong code monkey army, we couldn't be happier to see this update make the scene. It appears that no matter what iOS device you choose to install it on--iPad, iPhone or iPod touch--Remote 2.0's got something new that you're going to dig. With the Read More
Apple Updates Remote App for iOS Devices
Calendar16 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 16:05:39 UTC +00:00
As soon as the iPhone 4 was released, I assumed it wouldn’t be long before Remote got updated to take advantage of the new Retina Display and other features. Then again, I thought the same thing a few months earlier, when the iPad arrived. Needless to say, we’ve been waiting longer than I anticipated. But now, that update’s here. The redesigned universal app brings Retina Display support, makes great use of the larger screen space on the iPad and introduces a brand new icon that shares some design similarities with the new iTunes 10 icon. But the changes aren’t only visual. Remote now supports shared libraries (turned off by default, can be turned on in the app’s settings), allowing you to login with your iTunes account and find any libraries using Home Sharing with the computer you’re controlling. It may seem like a small thing, but it can really help if Read More
Apple’s Remote app gets a much need upgraded

Greg Kumparak is the Mobile Editor at Techcrunch. Greg has been writing for the TechCrunch network since May of 2008. Greg was born just outside of San Jose, and now lives in the East Bay of California. → Learn More Given that Apple’s Remote app is built by… you know, Apple, you might have assumed that it would’ve been one of the first out of the gate with support for the iPhone 4′s Retina display, the iPad, and other such Apple-made treats. You know what they say about assumptions, right? As it turns out, the Remote app’s team is pretty small — in fact, last we heard, it was a one-man side project. Such things don’t take priority, you know? Fortunately, it looks like he managed to find some time: version 2.0 of the Remote app is here. So what’s new? It’s pretty much what you’d expect: Ready to check it Read More
For the Love of Music, Buy the Old Apple TV
Calendar16 Tue, 21 Sep 2010 22:00:19 UTC +00:00
The new Apple TV is bright and shiny and full of Netflix and TV rental goodness, but I still love the old Apple TV. It won’t be getting any new tricks even via software update, but here are a few good reasons you may want to think about getting the old dog instead of a brand new puppy. The old Apple TV with 160GB hard drive is only $149 on clearance, down from $229. That price is $100 less than the iPod Classic, also with a 160GB hard drive. If you want to connect an iPod Classic to your TV or even stereo, you have to buy the component or composite cable ($49), and if you want to pause your music to answer the phone while sitting on the couch, you’ll also need the universal dock with remote control ($49). Buying the 160GB Apple TV will actually save you $200. Yes, yes, Read More

Bringing the Remote app shine back to the iPod app
Calendar16 Tue, 03 Aug 2010 19:30:00 UTC +00:00
Sachin Agarwal, co-founder and CEO of Posterous, wrote a blog post yesterday calling Apple a "huge start-up." Fair enough description, but what really interested me about the post was Agarwal had some info on one of my favorite iPhone apps – the Apple Remote. The app, if you aren't familiar with it, allows you to turn any iPhone or iPod touch into a remote for your computer's iTunes library. It's a terrific little app that hasn't been updated in over eight months -- even while most of Apple's in-house apps have been. Why? Agarwal says that the Remote app is written by a single person at Apple and he is busy with other projects at the moment. All that's interesting, but the real reason I'm writing this is so that Apple will listen again and give this coder a big fat raise and put him to work on the actual iPod Read More
Posted 08/03/2010 at 5:01am | by J.R. Bookwalter If you frequently use iTunes or even an Apple TV, you’re probably familiar with Apple’s free Remote app for the iPhone and iPod touch, which lets you control those devices. If you’re wondering why the App Store favorite hasn’t been updated in eight months, it turns out the reason is that it’s developed by one lone dude -- and he’s busy with another project for the company. That’s the revelation this week from Posterous co-founder and CEO Sachin Agarwal, who took to his blog to ponder on Apple’s success, according to AppleInsider. Agarwal claims that a lot of that success can be attributed to how Cupertino assembles “small teams of highly qualified people to work on projects” -- including a good friend who is the lone wolf responsible for the free Remote app. "Apple doesn't build large teams to work on every product Read More

Apple spotlights apps ready for iOS 4.0
Calendar16 Sat, 26 Jun 2010 15:30:00 UTC +00:00
We already spotlighted a few big apps that have made the jump to iOS 4 (and I'm sure we'll have more coming up soon), but Apple has gone ahead and put a few of its favorites on a page in iTunes for you to browse through as well. There are some excellent games on the list (PopCap didn't waste any time, and Ngmoco has a few, along with both Firemint titles). Art app Brushes and TUAW favorite Dropbox are there too, along with a bevy of other popular titles. This list definitely isn't definitive (iBooks is obviously ready for iOS 4, though it's not on there), but if you want to see what the Retina Display is like or check out multitasking on an app like Pandora, you can do so. One interesting note on what's not on there: Apple hasn't yet updated its official Remote app, and Texas Hold 'Em Read More

Best iPhone Apps for Your Media Center Mac
Calendar16 Tue, 11 May 2010 18:40:21 UTC +00:00
Are you running your Mac as a media center? Do you have an iPhone or iPod touch? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then there are a few apps you absolutely need to have to get set up in comfort and style. Wow your friends and mimic setups with dedicated hardware that cost up to three or four times as much. And take your media with you on the go, too. Now, obviously, getting this app requires you to have Boxee set up on your Mac as a pre-requisite, but that’s a step you definitely should take if you’re going to be using your Mac as a media center machine. Boxee automatically organizes your existing media library and gives you convenient, TV-optimized navigation of not only your own files but also of web content from sites like YouTube, CollegeHumor, U.S. television network sites and Hulu. Savant: iPad to "Redefine home automation"
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Feb 2010 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
Automating one's home with a Mac isn't new. Indigo has been around for a while, as has XTension. Heck, you can even feed your dog remotely. The folks at Savant offer a way to control your home or office's entertainment system, climate, security cameras, lighting and more with an iPhone or iPod touch. To say that they're excited about the iPad would be an understatement. In an interview with Electronic House, Savant president Jim Carroll called the device's release a "...watershed moment." He also confirmed that his company is working on an iPad app, including some "pretty cool" plans for the device's large screen. For now, home automation can be expensive, but Carroll believes that the iPad will change that. With a device that starts at US$499 (and should only get cheaper) and runs App Store apps, more and more people will be able to take advantage of this technology. Of Read More
App Store devsugar: Browser-based previews and URL tricks
Calendar16 Fri, 05 Feb 2010 15:00:00 UTC +00:00
TUAW reader Gabby tipped us off this morning that Apple has expanded its new browser-based iTunes previews to include App Store offerings. Sure enough, I pasted a standard App Store URL for Apple's Remote application into Safari and was treated to the preview shown just above. This new preview option is just one of many App Store URL tricks you may want to take advantage of. You can find some of the most useful tricks right after the break on this post. Got another URL trick for App Store? Let us know in the comments. Direct App Links (and creating them proactively). Right-clicking (or Control-clicking) the application icon in an iTunes App Store listing allows you to copy a URL that provides direct access to your App Store listing. A typical link looks like this: The application id represents the same product number that appears in iTunes Connect. Knowing this number Read More
Should Startups Jump on NetTV Monetization?
Calendar16 Thu, 21 Jan 2010 22:30:00 UTC +00:00
Savvy content publishers are celebrating the announcement of what may be a potentially lucrative revenue stream. Yesterday morning, net television provider Boxee wrote about its plans to launch an upcoming payment platform. Content partners will have a chance to offer pay-per-view and subscription media as one click purchases from the remote. For now, it's natural that both Boxee and PayPal's partnership with Philips for IPTV monetization focus on music and video content purchases as these are the materials that these mediums have traditionally yielded. However, we also know that there's a world of possibilities for one-touch remote purchasing. As envisioned in this PayPal developer API promotion, web television can give rise to an entirely new shopping environment. Others may laugh at the idea of a luxury purchase made via TV, but when I saw this video at the PayPal X Conference, I was floored. My first thought concerned Oprah's Book Club. Read More
TUAW Tip: Veency remote controls your iPhone from your Mac

Reader Kevin C. sent us a tip the other day -- he recently got a Bose SoundDock II, which is a nice little speaker dock, as a Christmas gift, and he wants to know: with his iPhone sitting all the way across the room, is there any way he can control the iPhone from his Mac? Obviously there are lots of ways to control your Mac with your iPhone, from Apple's official Remote app to multiple VNC programs on the App Store. But in this case, we want to go the other way: control your iPhone's iPod app with a Mac. Turns out there isn't a way to do it -- unless you jailbreak your iPhone. Using Veency, a jailbreak app that Erica covered about a year or so ago, you can head into your iPhone from your Mac and do anything you want, from changing tracks in iTunes to even Read More

By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Nov 17, 2009 | Apple quietly introduced a new Apple Remote [$19.00 - Apple Online Store link] along with the updated iMac, Mac Mini, Magic Mouse, and Apple TV 3.0 last month. Not to be confused with the Apple-produced Remote app [Free - iTunes link], which allows an iPhone or iPod touch to control an Apple TV or iTunes, the Apple Remote is a hardware accessory that not only controls the aforementioned Apple TV or iTunes (and Front Row!) all on its own, but can also control an iPhone or iPod touch when they’re placed in the — sold-separately — Apple Universal Dock [$49.00 - Apple Online Store link] So, how new is it, why would an iPhone or iPod touch need a hardware remote anyway, and most importantly, how does it perform? Using your iPhone as a remote has been done, but a company called Sonos has integrated iPhone into its whole-house wireless sound system... and on top of iTunes control, adds internet radio and Napster, Rhapsody, Pandora, last.fm and Sirius to the options at your fingertips. The Sonos ZonePlayer 120 is a five-speaker system – two tweeters, two 3” mid-range drivers, and one 3.5” woofer - each individually powered by its own dedicated amplifier. Sonos has announced a portable wireless music system that uses an iPhone or iPod touch for a controller. The Zone Player S5 is a one piece, 5 speaker music player that can access your iTunes library or any internet radio station, as well as Napster, Rhapsody, Pandora, last.fm or Sirius if you have the required subscriptions. The physical unit has only volume controls and a mute button. Like other Sonos products, the S5 needs a wired router connection or a Zone Bridge unit, which is a U.S. $99.00 box that plugs into your router and then allows the S5 to be wireless anywhere in the house. You can add additional S5 units that only need AC power to work. The S5 looks a bit like the Bose audio systems that dock with the iPhone. Works great after you fix your firewall
Jim Garrigues 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If iTunes lets you enter the passcode, but then seems to go dumb and won't let your iphone/ipod connect, change your Mac/PC firewall to allow incoming connections for iTunes. On a Mac: from the  menu select System Preferences/Security/Firewall then pick "Set access for specific services and applications". Then click the "+" and find/select iTunes in your Applications folder and click "Add". Then make sure the setting next to iTunes says "Allow incoming connections"
Very cool use of iPhone "iPod" persona as remote control
TuCats 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very clever! This appears to re-use a lot of the interface already worked out to support the iPod features of an iPhone or iPod touch, but modified to remotely control an instance of iTunes in your local network. The controls are obvious and intuitive because they are the same controls you're already used to with your iPhone.
"Works" is not entirely accurate
iffonnnly 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
All the reviews make it sound great and it looks great in theory, but it doesn't work for everyone apparently. The support articles are useless for fixing whatever is causing this not to work for me. Same wi-fi network - check; system requirements - check. Operational - NO. Apple needs to post some more detailed troubleshooting articles. Clearly the set up is more complicated than simply downloading and installing. The app is free, the 6+ hours I have spent trying to investigate the reason it doesn't work is frustrating. Trying to blindly reconfigure firewall settings and resetting routers is a little beyond the average user. Especially without any useful technical assistance.
I finally got it to work!!!

I've been looking forward to this app since the App store was first announced. I wasn't sure who was going to make it first but I'm glad it was Apple. It's done really well. This application is amazing! It controls itunes via an iPhone or an iPod touch as if you were controlling the playback on your ipod normally! I was surprised to find out that changes occur instantaneously, including volume adjustment! It works an airtunes speaker just as well. My apple tv doesn't have any of my media on it. I have a G5 tower with a crap-ton of drive space running as our "iTunes server". The remote app doesn't see shared libraries. I don't know if this can be fixed or not, but we have waaaaay more tv shows and movies that any currently shipping apple tv has hard drive space. My apple tv is one of the few computer devices I still haven't modded, and would really like to keep it that way, so adding a bigger drive is out of the question, unless you guys would let us add external usb drives.
Sounds good, doesn't work
kkoshkin 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
If this app worked like it should, it would get five stars. I tried to add my library to the list, and all it did was look for it, never with any success. So I deleted and reinstalled the app, and now I can't even get to the "looking-but-unable-to-discover" stage because it keeps telling me that my 4-digit passkey is incorrect. Essentially, this thing is worthless and nothing more than a frustration.
Almost perfect.
Ookseer 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
If only it had the option of pausing the music when my phone rings (like the built in player) it would be perfect.

Doesn't work for me
Sangoma63 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Looks like a great idea but it plain doesn't work on my setup. Nothing unusual in this setup- a recent iMac and a new iTouch. iTunes asks for the 4 digit code that the iTouch is displaying, but when I type it in, after AGES of 'verifying passcode', iTunes returns a message that the passcode I entered is incorrect. It isn't. My firewall is correctly set. Looks like there are some bugs to sort out, but I am still looking forward to a release-ready version of the software based on the reviews of those it works for!
Great App!

I love my Apple TV but with a large library it can get a bit unwieldy to navigate to what you're looking for. This is the perfect compliment to the Apple TV. It makes finding a song, movie, etc. much simpler and the search function is a much welcomed addition.

This controls my Appletv! Really cool. It will only control iTunes content, however. I have not been able to use it to navigate YouTube or settings or anything like that. Still, it is pretty amazing, and a lot of fun for free!
