Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
Street Fighter news that doesn’t involve its appearance on the Nintendo 3DS is at a premium as Nintendo rushes its next handheld to market, so I’m pleased to report on this little story which involves something quite different: Street Fighter IV [$.99] for the iPod and iPhone is now being sold for under a dollar. That’s like nine bucks worth of savings for a competent fighting game on a touch screen device. Not bad, right? But, wait, there’s more savings to go around. Capcom has also slashed the prices of several of its titles to the one-dollar mark. Here’s the full list: Capcom Arcade (In-app arcade machine purchases are 99¢) Capcom notes in the new game descriptions that talk about the sales that these deals won’t “last forever,” suggesting the usual one-week kind of sale, but not really confirming the stretch the marketing folks plan to play the App Store charting Read More

When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More
Markennamen im verspielten iOS-Garten
Calendar16 Tue, 11 Jan 2011 14:39:35 UTC +00:00
Deshalb darf man zurecht die Frage von John Gruber: “Where Are the Android Killer Apps?”

Christmas is just a day away, and with a ton of people sure to have shiny new iOS devices waiting for them under the tree there will no doubt be a lot of people looking for games to try out on their latest toy. While we'll be highlighting all of the best iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad games from 2010 in future posts, there are currently a ton of deals to be had on both new and old games alike. - We posted about this sale a few days ago, but it's worth mentioning again. Six fantastic games from independent developers, all priced at 99¢, with one third of the proceeds going to Child's Play Charity. Every game on this list is excellent, and worth owning or gifting to an iOS-toting friend or family member: - - - During the annual App Store lockdown that should last from today until next Read More
Read More
Capcom Arcade Review
Calendar16 Fri, 05 Nov 2010 20:07:16 UTC +00:00
Posted 11/05/2010 at 12:07pm | by Ryan Rigney Capcom’s expeditions into the App Store thus far have often been port overs or re-releases of past console hits, like Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 4. The creators of Mega Man are taking that trend one step further with the newly unveiled Capcom Arcade, a free-to-download, officially licensed emulator for retro Capcom games. For now, the only games available to play are Street Fighter II, Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, 1942, and Commando, but Capcom has promised to update the arcade with new releases each month. The arcade itself might be free, but to play these games you’ll have to use virtual tokens. Each day, you'll be alotted a few credits for free, but once those run out you’ll have to buy more or purchase the individual games outright. Unfortunately, the emulated versions offered here aren't the best way to experience these classic games. Read More
Hands-On with 'Dead Rising Mobile' from Capcom
Calendar16 Tue, 05 Oct 2010 14:03:04 UTC +00:00
The other big game I got to spend some time with at Capcom's Media Tour event is Dead Rising Mobile, a portable version of the 2006 Xbox 360 game Dead Rising. In the game you'll play as photojournalist Frank West who has become trapped inside a zombie infested mall in the fictional city of Willamette. As one of the few non-zombified humans left, he'll have to fight off the attacking hordes of zombies using whatever means available to him inside the mall until military support can reach the location and offer aid. Dead Rising Mobile looks to encompass as much of this original console release as possible on the iOS platform, similar to what Capcom did with Resident Evil 4 [$1.99/Lite/HD] on iPhone last year. After playing the game I can honestly say they're off to a great start, but definitely have a ways to go. The focus in Dead Rising Read More

Select Capcom Titles Drop to 99¢ Through the Weekend
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Sep 2010 13:00:59 UTC +00:00
Yesterday, developer Capcom announced that  they are having a 99¢ blowout sale on eight of their App Store titles. My personal picks of the bunch are Resident Evil 4 which is a scaled down version of the console title that still retains much of the same content and gameplay, and Dark Void Zero which is an 8-bit "demake" of the console title Dark Void and completely nails the feeling of playing an old NES game (right down to blowing in the cartridge when starting it up). Check over the list, and if there's something on there you've been waiting to pick up now would be a great time to do so. Cash Cab, - $4.99 → 99¢ The sale is set to last through the coming weekend, so make sure to grab any titles you want before they return to their original prices. Capcom and Bioware disappointed in iPhone app performance
Calendar16 Mon, 02 Aug 2010 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
We've heard a lot of interesting things from big companies on the App Store -- some of them have released games and apps with not a lot of success compared to more high-profile indie groups, while some seem to have nailed down a little bit of profit from Apple's platform. Capcom is apparently finding itself in that first group -- the company's latest financial reports state that it is fairly disappointed in the performance of its App Store titles. Resident Evil 4 sales have "increased gradually," while even more anticipated apps like Street Fighter IV and Phoenix Wright have only "achieved their projected sales." Which may be good news, but it's not exactly a glowing result for Capcom's App Store efforts. Meanwhile, EA's partner Bioware is licking its wounds from its first iPhone effort. Greg Zeschuk says that Mass Effect on the iPhone "wasn't even a mistake as much as we Read More

February 16th, 2010 James Isabel When the title said cheap, I meant $0.99! Yep, the amazing Resident Evil 4 iPhone is following the “Rolando 2 techniques“. Today, CAPCOM released a cheaper version of the game in Resident Evil 4 for beginners: Play “RESIDENT EVIL 4” risk free! Experience the first two chapters of the highly acclaimed game, an all-new tutorial, “Mercenary Mode” and the new “Coin Shoot” mode for pennies. If you like the game and want to keep playing, you can download all the remaining chapters via In-App purchase. In A Perfect World… This really should be the ONLY “Lite” system for ALL iPhone games. It really is somewhat depressing that iPhone developers have to literally create FREE versions of their games they all so worked hard for. Cheaper? As notes, the full game is still available for $6.99. In the end, the devs get what they wanted and you Read More
Capcom kündigt ein iPhone-Street Fighter IV an
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 20:34:16 UTC +00:00
N64 emulator for jailbroken iPhones on the way?
Calendar16 Wed, 04 Nov 2009 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
There's an exciting announcement at All Tech Related this week that has us saying, "We can't wait!" ZodTDD, the developer behind GpSPhone (a Nintendo Gameboy Advance emulator for the iPhone and iPod Touch), announced the development of an N64 emulator for the iPhone and iPod touch. Zodttd believes that the current generation iPhone and iPod touch have the graphic CPU horsepower necessary to run those games. "...I can't promise it will run games top notch just yet, as things are too early to say. There's hope though, with a 3D accelerated graphics plugin, as well as an ARM dynarec." As iPhone Savior points out, the toughest challenge could be fitting the controls onto the screen in an unobtrusive yet usable way. That was my main complaint about Resident Evil for iPhone [iTunes link] -- my hand is often in the way of what I'm trying to see. Note that this will Read More

Popular iPhone And iPod Touch Games On Sale This Weekend

This weekend’s sales include tons of big name titles, including the elusive Real Racing, Resident Evil 4, and even the popular Civilization Revolution, so let’s jump right in. Real Racing ($9.99 -> $6.99): One of the best racing games to ever hit the App Store.  Real Racing features great graphics, intelligent AI, 48 cars, 12 tracks, local multiplayer for up to six players, and stellar controls.  This is the first time Firemint has ever placed it on sale, so don’t miss out. Yahtzee Adventures ($2.99 -> $1.99): The classic game of Yahtzee, but modified for the iPhone.  It features four different game modes, touch and accelerometer-based controls, and four-player multiplayer via pass and play. Trivial Pursuit ($4.99 -> $2.99): EA seems to be the king of porting board games to the iPhone, and this one is no exception.  The game features thousands of new trivia questions, touch-based controls, four-player multiplayer via Read More

Firemint's Real Racing [App Store] will see its first sale this weekend dropping from $9.99 to $6.99 temporarily. The sale should be live by Saturday morning, so keep that in mind if you've been holding out. So, I wrote iTunes (reported a problem) when I received my bill. And even though the game's info says that it's in English, and it's not, I was told that there is nothing that they can do for me, that the 'functionality of the game is not Apple's responsibility." This Isn't the Console Version, But It Is One of the Best Games In the App Store
MICHAELSD 3.0 stars Version: 1.00.00
After a short wait, Resident Evil 4 has been released for the iPhone. If you're expecting the console version of the game, that's not what you're getting. This is a completely different game based off of the console version, ported from a version developed for mobile phones, though the graphics were improved for the iPhone release. This wasn't ported from the console version though, which is disappointing. That being said, Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone is an inferior game in every way to the console versions. All of the interesting cutscenes are replaced with pictures and text, the levels are much shorter, the graphics are mediocre, and most of the things that made Resident Evil 4 such an incredible game on consoles are missing in the iPhone version. When compared to other games on the App Store, this is one of the best games. The controls are okay, other games have proved that the virtual analog stick could be a little better. The graphics are pretty decent compared to what's been seen on the App Store so far. The zombie models are overused and some don't look very good. You're still playing as Leon, killing zombies, and trying to survive. The levels are very short, and are nothing like the console version. You can't even go inside most buildings, and the level ends as soon as you kill all of the enemies. The survival aspect of the game feels more like what you would expect in a Resident Evil game than it did in Degeneration. This version of Resident Evil 4 does add some of the things that Degeneration was lacking as well, but Degeneration felt like it had more of a story element, even though the iPhone version of Resident Evil 4 had much more potential. While the iPhone and the iPhone 3G couldn't run a port of the console version, the iPhone 3GS could. The iPhone 3GS has specs that are comparable, and better in some aspects, to the Gamecube. A port of the console version, even if it was only for the iPhone 3GS, would easily be a game that I would pay significantly more for, and it would also be a much better game, and would be a great game to show off the iPhone 3GS's hardware. If you want to play Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone, this isn't Resident Evil 4, it's a completely different game that was originally designed for mobile phones. If you want a mobile Resident Evil game, though, this is the best you'll find, and it can be an enjoyable game at times; it's also one of the best games in the App Store.
No RE4, You're Small Time!
dzdncnfusd 4.0 stars Version: 1.00.00
In a somewhat predictable move, RE4 (also known as "BEST GAEM EVAR!" by some) has stopped by the iPhone on it's quest to travel all the consoles of the world. When it came I decided to purchase it due to the fact that I enjoyed Degeneration a lot. When I booted it up, my initial expression was that "Wow! Capcom has polished this to a tee, surely I am playing the 'BEST GAEM EVAR!'" And then I played the first level... Apparently, this was a port from the Japan only BREW version like Degeneration, so length is somewhat understandable. But while Degeneration had actual full fledged enviromenst and felt like a cohesive experience. RE4 is the Abridged version of the console version. You can open doors, but there are less than five in the game. There are a plethora (and I mean a plethora) of upgrades for your guns, but if you are halfway decent at gaming, you will beat the game on normal before you upgrade the Handgun all the way, much less any other item. Most areas consist of a single room with enemies and you are told to go crazy, and nothing else. That is hardly a bad thing in and of itself, but since Degeneration had that and a lot more, you can't help but feel a tad ripped off, even for a mobile game. In terms of in-game production values, however, the game is MUCH more plesant to look at then Degeneration, with most of the enviroments blowing it and most other iPhone games out of the grave. Leon and Ashley show off the most love in this respect with their relatively high polygon counts and texturing jobs. (Though it seems that looking at Leon's face that we are looking at an RE5 Chris in disguise, with less performance enhancers. ^_^) The other enemies are also slighly improved over their Degeneration counterparts, but not by much. Lighting is usually static, but does a very good job at conveying mood. All in all what I would expect from Capcom. Audio though seems to have gotten the short end at times. The main music tracks are well done, but loop poorly. The sounds are only passable at best, with guns rarely giving an "OOMPH!" that they should, the villagers, cultists, just about everyone giving a poor snake-like hiss about every second that they are not dead. At least the zombies in Degeneration had the decency to moan in various ways once in a while, you think Capcom could have included some Spanish or chanting in between. However, one moment stands out as perfect in execution, with Leon walking into a prison and all the sound cutting off suddenly. It makes me wish they put in more effort. The one real reason however that this game barely gets a four (I really should give it a three, but this is still a good game.) are the cutscenes. Sure, most Resident Evil plots read out like a story I made about "Haircomb Man" back in fourth grade, but Degeneration actually had a semblance of trying. Capcom just figured that no-one even cared at this point and replaced everything with a slideshow cutscene as they saw fit. While this didn't quite bother me during "plot" moments, apparently they couldn't even be bothered to show Leon climbing a ladder, instead taking a GC screenshot of Leon climbing a ladder with the words "Leon climbs a ladder.". CAPCOM WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN YOUR MOBILE DIVISION! Then they turn right back around and have Ganados climb that same ladder just fine. And apparently, it is much easier to animate Ashley jumping into Leon's arms then to show him CLIMBING A STUPID LADDER, even when he has done it before in Degeneration and hell, FOUR LEVELS AGO! Did he just become paranoid about ladders or something? That what I would normally call lazy development, but call schitzophrenic instead because they can't make up their minds on what they want to do. The game is chock-filled with these moments of halfway done things, Like Capcom was so pumped to do a true to the game mobile version and then after a while got bored and figured people would buy it anyway (Which is true, since I bought it.) even to the point where you essentially get only half a game, or to be precise an advertisement for the main game. I see no need to defend Capcom here. Other smaller companies can create somewhat full experiences on the iPhone, why can't a Triple A studio. I just want a full experience that would feel authentic. They did it with Degeneration, why not with their "BEST GAEM EVAR!". I recommend buying it if you have the cash, but don't expect the full experience.
Nice version of a classic

You are a moron if you think the 3GS is anywhere near as powerful as the Gamecube. Come on now. I love my 3GS but it's not the powerhouse that a lot of iPhone fanboys make it out to be. The Gamecube is more powerful than a PS2. The PSP is about 2/3 as powerful as a PS2 and the 3GS is barely half as powerful as the PSP! Anyways... RE4 for the iPhone is great for any RE fan or action game fan in general. I think the controls are pretty good. A little clumsy at times but as good as they can be on a touch screen. If you were expecting a full port of the console version then you need to pull your head out of your you know what!! Buy it!
rip off

if your going to release a ported version of the game, atleast let people know your short changing them and not including good portions of the original. what a waste. The game is just certain parts of Resident evil 4
High reviews are based on other ports of the game....

Let's review it for what it actually is on the iphone. This is somewhat a port of the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4. While the graphics do the game justice the play control is simply horrible. The analog stick on the left is not as precise as an anolog on a regular game pad. Don't buy in to the hype. This is as frustrating as it gets and definately not worth the $8.
My favorite Game App So Far.

I'm a devote RE fan who has played RE 4 excessively for both the Game Cube and Wii. This version is pretty darn faithful to the console version and is definitely a step up graphics wise from RE degeneration. There are a ton of unlockables and upgrades. On the downside the game ends abruptly after the Verdugo fight. There are no island levels or Saddler fight. Also the game levels are so relatively easy that you speed through the game multiple times way before getting a chance to significantly upgrade your weapons. I know os 3.0 is suppose to allow publishers to add additional levels. I'm hoping Capcom will release a few more, so the game feels complete. All that being said; definitely an awesome game for RE 4 fans. Good graphics and music and sound effects right from the console version.
Love it !!!

This is pretty faithful to the original game. RE4 for the Gamecube is my favorite game of all time and this is great for a pocket version. The graphics are decent but the controls are just a little slow. Overall it is much better than Degeneration. It would be nice if they improved the gore effects, it looks like sparks when you shoot a 'not zombie'.
Incredible...

Finally have been waiting for this graphics are ps2 quality. Cotrols a little better than degeneration. But an awesome game if you are a fan of the game or even if your not you will not be dissaponted. Well worth 7.99. Can't wait for Bioshock mobile.
Great game

The game is amazing, good controls, graphics and level design is small but nice. My only complaint is the ending, it seems to not really have one. You go down the elevator then Leon says he has to save Ashley and it is over, couldn't we have gotten a quick jet ski run? Also great job hiding the treasure items. No to my next complaint, but this one isn't about the game. Why do all the 3 GS users think they deserve their own copy of the game specifically for them selves? You guys do not own a next gen portable console. People are asking for a port of the complete gamecune version when the computer version proves it can't be put on the iPod compare the specs guys!
Awesome!!!

Not bad

The only thing that kills the game for me is the shooting, the crosshair (laser sight) is way to touchy making it impossible to aim where you want. Fix the sensitivity of the aiming and it will be 5 stars but until then the game is not worth playing.
What could be expected

This game has been out for 2 weeks without review. I downloaded the game out of the fact that I was so crazy over the console version of the same name. I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that I'm not use to iPhone gaming, or bad exicution. The emviornments in which you play is very bare-bones.. The enemy movements are very poor, they appear to hop twords me rather then walk.. I suppose for the iPhone it's a good title, but after the opening scene played back old cinema scenes from the original game, I was hoping for s little fuller experience.. This game left me unsatisfied..
Very nice. What Deneration should of been!

This game is awesome plain and simple! The controls are much improved over Degeneration and make the game very playable. Probably some of if not the best graphics for an iPhone game yet. My only actual complaint is that it's too short and therefor the price tag seems a bit high. Can get through it in 3, no more than 4 hours. Really amazing game otherwise!!!
Worth the wait!

I love it, not the full ps2 game but DAMN good. It will definitely keep me busy until Duke Nukem, Doom Classic, and Wolfenstein RPG come out :) yup all three of those are on their way to the iPhone before summers out. :) happy gaming!
Best iPod/iPhone Resident Evil Game
Cipher17 5.0 stars Version: 1.00.00
Even though it's a lite version in the fact that instead of FMV's you get text, doesn't detract from the fact that it's the best third person shooter on the iPod/iPhone. And it's also one of the best looking games on the system as well. The game plays out just like Degeneration, however the control system has been more fine tuned as well as the framerate. Also instead of having to unlock the Mercenaries mode by beating the game, you can access it concurrently and use the funds gained during the mode in the singleplayer campaign. And of course the always helpful shady Merchant has returned to sell, buy, and upgrade weapons. (Note: If you did not like the controls of Degeneration then you probably will not like the controls. However in contention the controls in this have been more fine tuned. Purchase at your own risk.)
Great challenging game

Many shooters on the app store are just too easy! This game offers a great challenge with every mission. There are 12 missions/ levels in the game so the game takes quite a while to beat
Great translation

I am a hardcore Resident Evil fan and this game is really fun! It's not as good as the consle version but I like this game a lot. By the way the Mercenaries mode is sweet!

Ok, this is the best game on the app store ive beaten it 14 times, but it should be longer. I know that usally games like this never get updated but you guys should be the first, you could continue the story, add more weapons, make sepprate ways, and make costumes. I know thats a lot but over time i think you guys could do that.
An OK version of the classic console game.
El_Santo 3.0 stars Version: 1.00.00
Let me say this first, I've played Resident Evil 4 on the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Wii. I also played Resident Evil: Degeneration (the iPhone/iPod touch RE game) and found it to be quite enjoyable. This game however, I am not fond of. Not because of what most reviewers here are complaining about: the lack of cut scenes and short scenarios. No. I am not fond of it because of the controls. The game is obviously built off of the game engine from Resident Evil: Degeneration and although other people here have said that it is better and more fine tuned, I find the control scheme to be overly sensitive and erratic.
