Android phones are rivaling the iPhone 4 now, so music apps are being released in droves. Here are some of the top music apps for your Android device, from personalized radio players to interactive apps. Pandora is a favorite Android app, with personal radio stations that play all your jams. Mark your preferences as you listen, so Pandora gets to know your music taste. Free, the app lets you set multiple stations, learn more about artists, and purchase songs for download. Rhapsody's on-demand music service will cost you about $9 per month, but consider it your endless library, with custom playlists. Listen to any song, anytime, anywhere. Rhapsody is also accessible through other outlets, such as the web, your cable box and more. Last.fm's Android app lets you access your existing account from your phone. Hear recommended songs and stations, set your preferences, and utilize the free app as a music Read More
Music subscription services never quite struck gold with Internet users, but now that the smartphone is becoming the era’s standard listening device, a new gold rush is on. Established music services like Rhapsody, Pandora and Slacker continue to improve mobile service, but they are suddenly facing new mobile music competition. Depending on a person’s phone, budget and listening habits, the new services may be a better call. The services seem to be converging on the same target — namely, apps that let users hear personalized radio stations, build play lists and store songs for offline listening. No service has all of these features for all mobile platforms, but they are making progress. Rhapsody’s Premier service ($10 a month), for instance, is great for iPhone users, good for people with Android phones and useless on a BlackBerry until Rhapsody’s BlackBerry app arrives later this summer. Users can create play lists or listen Read More

Google Android mobile operating system continues to eat away at the iPhone’s dominance, approaching 50,000 apps this month.  As the Android Market  for apps continues to grow, we’re seeing more brands launching and enhancing their presence in this mobile platform. Rhapsody on Monday announced that it has added offline caching to the latest version of its iPhone/iPod touch/iPad app. The new feature lets users listen to music via the subscription service even when an Internet connection is spotty or nonexistent. The company noted in its announcement "This is the first time Apple has approved this feature in the U.S." Spotify offers a similar feature to European smartphone owners, but as many an antsy music fan knows, that service has yet to make it to American shores. Rhapsody recently released an app for the Android OS and is working on one for BlackBerry. The music service, which remained one of the bright lights in Real Networks' sputtering portfolio for a number of years, was spun off as its own company earlier this month. This post originally appeared on AppScout. Read More
One of the original pioneers in streaming music is still making waves. Rhapsody released a new version of its iPhone app that allows people to wirelessly download playlists to their iPhones, iPods or iPads and listening to them whenever — even if they don’t have an Internet connection. The move comes just weeks after the company, which was revolutionary at the beginning of the decade for offering an all-you-can-eat subscription model, began life as an independent company after been spun-off from RealNetworks. The ability to cache playlists is a much sought-after feature that hadn’t yet landed in the U.S. before. Berkeley-based competitor MOG plans to launch this feature on both Android devices and iPhones with a $10 a month subscription service in the second quarter of this year. The much-hyped Swedish startup Spotify offers this already. But sadly, it hasn’t been able to cross the pond from Europe. Rhapsody recently launched Read More

Android device owners are singing a new tune this week with the addition of streaming music provider Rhapsody to the list of services available for download in the Android Market. For $9.99 a month, users can stream an unlimited amount of music to both their handsets and computers. There is no local caching in this initial release, however, so a web connection is required. But Rhapsody says it will come in a future version, thereby bringing it in line with existing services such as Pandora, Slacker and Thumbplay. The Android Market is a convenient place to find new apps that can be installed on handsets, but it lacks integration with the desktop as enjoyed by iPhone owners with iTunes. But now Android phone owners with Mac desktops have DoubleTwist. Much like iTunes, DoubleTwist is designed to handle desktop media libraries (music, video and photos) — it also allows for the synchronization Read More
This is a pretty exciting time for the mobile industry, what with the iPad launch and Microsoft’s plans to create more social, app-driven devices.  Android is making waves, too, with 800 million app downloads expected in the next year.  We can begin to get a good grasp on what these apps will be by looking at popular Android apps now.  Here are some of the week’s top Android apps: Rhapsody, always out to bring music to wherever you are, launched a well-received Android app this week. Hear chart-topping songs, your favorites, and new releases with the free Android app. Music on-demand through Rhapsody is even better with an account, as it syncs with several other devices and services. For full features, a subscription is well worth the price of $10 ($15 for the Premier Plus category). Digg disappointed with its Android app, as it lacked mobile bookmarking submission. But the new Android Read More
Android gets official Rhapsody app
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Apr 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Get ready to rock and roll on your , Droid, or other Android device because Rhapsody has officially hit the Android Market. The company has been beta testing on Android since January, and the iPhone version has been offering streaming tunes and offline access for months. You can get all-you-can-eat music for $10 a month but there’s also a seven-day free trial period. It’s available in the Android Market as we speak. I’m a big fat cheapskate, so I still think $10 a month is too much for on-demand music, even if you have a solid catalog like Rhapsody. But, we’re getting close to my miserly price range. If we get to the $5-$7 range, then I’d probably take the plunge. Any readers using a subscription service? Which one’s the best? What’s your price point for jumping in? Marin Perez has torture tested cell phones and smartphones for industry leaders like Read More
Worth Reading? Today, Rhapsody has removed this app out of beta. This app brings with it the ability to stream over 9.5 millions songs to your Android device.  So if you have a paid Rhapsody subscription, this is the app you have been waiting for. If you don’t have a subscription you can sign up for a seven day trial and see how it goes, you might love it and decide to keep it. Market Description: “Hear your old favorites or listen to the newest releases. The Rhapsody App makes it easy to tap into over 9 million songs from wherever you are. With a subscription, you can listen to anything and everything in the catalog–and offline playback coming soon. Download the beta today and try it FREE*.” For some reason it’s still listed as beta in the market. Maybe sometime today it will be updated. Check it out and see Read More
Rhapsody Android fans, start your engines. The beta application of Rhapsody‘s on-demand music service is now available in the U.S. Android Market. Rhapsody, which streams over 9 million songs through radio or on-demand playlists from users, is available now for a free 7-day trial. The new beta application follows Rhapsody’s creation as an independent company, spun off from RealNetworks into a new service jointly-owned by Real and Viacom. The company has also lowered its price to $10 per month in order to be more competitive against rivals like Pandora and Slacker, as well as services like MOG that are more closely-related to what Rhapsody  offers users. The competition could get much worse if Spotify makes good on suggestions that it will launch a U.S. product in 2010 and releases its app to U.S. members. I spoke with a Rhapsody rep back in January who let me test the software and I Read More

Rhapsody Now Connecting on Android
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Apr 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
When it comes to mobile music subscription options, there’s already quite a few — Pandora, Slacker and Thumbplay all come to mind. And now, Rhapsody joins the club on Google Android handsets with a new beta client available in the Android Marketplace. The software is a free download, but does require a monthly fee for service. Rhapsody recently restructured its plan offerings and prices, so $9.99 a month gets you service to both computers and handsets. There’s also a free 7-day trial for new subscribers. For Android devices, the service offers unlimited access to over 9.5 million song tracks, but only while connected to the web. Unlike services that support offline music caching, this iteration of Rhapsody doesn’t. That’s not unlike streaming Pandora music, but Slacker does support offline playback for Android. However, a “download subscription music to your mobile device” feature is coming soon, says Rhapsody’s site. I can’t comment Read More

We’d heard tales that Rhapsody was all set to launch for Android by the end of 2009, but, as anyone with a calendar could tell you, that just didn’t happen. It may be a bit later than we expected, but Rhapsody took their first big step into the Android-waters just minutes ago by launching the Rhapsody for Android Beta program. They’re Read More

It is available for free through the Android Market. Now, people with Android-powered handsets (like the Motorola Droid or HTC’s Nexus One and EVO 4G) can explore and stream Rhapsody’s entire library of over 9.5 million songs from pretty much anywhere. Log in errors, songs load play for 30 sec if it even plays half the time it doesn't. Uses mp3 spot even though you can't use without service, lame.
Parvati 2.0 stars
Another update and STILL sometimes only plays 30 second clips. And STILL no widget. It's getting ridiculous.
Gilbert Mendoza 4.0 stars
Oh, i'm so excited about this app. I've been a long time subscriber and i'm very pleased with this apps performance. Could replace Pandora for me.
James 3.0 stars
Will load songs for 30 sec. Have to reload to play the whole song. Still forces close. HTC Incredible

Love Rhapsody but i refuse accept any updates as my verison works fine currently with a few 30 secs mixed in. Bring on the offline ability!
Jonathan 1.0 stars
I'm done!!! I have been a member for five years and this is pathetic. Promising offline mode and not producing and unreliable. Subscription canceled!!
Lawrence 1.0 stars
Gol....I want this app to work. I want to pay the monthly fee it offers what the others don't. Bit the songs stop mid play. Arrgh. Bummer.
Tim 2.0 stars
Update! I pay monthly, and without a good app its money im wasting. Better 3g offline playback. Fix force close issue.
r546 4.0 stars
Works pretty well, like the charts feature, good quality, but needs to take less taps to access library and not do random 30 sec previews
Michael 3.0 stars
This used to be a great app. I know its a beta but it seems to have gotten much worse then it was. Hopefully this gets better.
Greg 2.0 stars
Barely manages to play through entire songs before saying it has a weak connection. Hopefully it improves before full release.
rudy 1.0 stars
Constantly crashes... even with paid subscription, it randomly plays 30 second samples of songs. Very dissapointing.
Jon Kruger 2.0 stars
Only makes it through a whole song about half of the time. Was a little better before Froyo.
Aaron 3.0 stars
The idea behind the service is outstanding. This software random crashes, music plays mute, 30second samples stream randomly. Playlist shufle a joke

No share or twitter ability. No thank you. On to the next music app...
Stephen 2.0 stars
Force closes all the time, doesn't load songs, doesn't work right at all...

Jimmy 1.0 stars
Worst update ever... the app keeps thinking im not a subscriber and plays 30 second samples... i want my monthly fee back
tonydking 1.0 stars
How long has this been beta? Pay a subscription for this and most of the time it doesn't work properly. Stop screwing the customer & fix your product.

Good UI 5 stars for whenever they decide to implement offline playback

LOVE IT !! Only thing it needs is ability to "swipe / flick" screen to get to next song in playlist to move thru list easier. Add that and it's heaven

Like Kenny Powers always says "your f'n out!" Movin to Rdio they are 4.99 a mnth and can d/l and all that jazz!
Olivia 1.0 stars
For all the time it takes to load the songs, u should be able to listen to more of the songs.not to mention all the skiping, this is a waste of time
chris 1.0 stars
Need to be able to download songs directly to Droid.
David 5.0 stars
No problems at all on my N1 running Froyo. No skips, Ican play full songs, and Rhapsody's library puts rdio, napster and mog to shame.
staudt 1.0 stars
Hasn't worked at all for at least a week. Simply unacceptable for a subscription service.
wilrevehl 3.0 stars

I love Rhapsody. I hate the quality of this app. Hero 2.1 It turned out I needed to clear out my cache. So...the app is not so bad.
Parvati 1.0 stars
How many F-ING UPDATES does it take to be able to listen to ONE LOUSY SONG all the way through? This app is an embarrassment.
MadDog 1.0 stars
Plays 30 seconds of songs and skips randomly. Lose connection and you are forced to press a button?? Worst app design ever. Fire the developer. Evo4g
