Rhapsody for iPhone gets updated, includes album downloads
Calendar16 Fri, 15 Oct 2010 13:51:46 UTC +00:00
By Staff, Friday, Oct 15, 2010 | Rhapsody for iPhone and iPod touch has received a nice little upgrade. In case you are unfamiliar with the subscription based music service, it allows you to pay a monthly fee starting at $9.99 and you can download anything they have in their huge catalog of over 10 million songs. In their latest update they have included: This is a significant improvement over the ability to only download playlists as you can pick and choose what you would like to download. This also could enable you to finally get rid of your Rhapsody player if you have one and finally be down to one all-in-one device. The update is available now and is free in the store. If you try it out, let us know what you think. by Brian Tufo Read More
Streaming app Grooveshark pulled from App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 17 Aug 2010 18:00:00 UTC +00:00
Grooveshark, the music-streaming app that's had a home on Cydia for the past year, was kicked out of the App Store after Apple notified the company that they received a complaint from Universal Music Group UK. While Apple has approved streaming music apps (such as Rhapsody) in the past, Grooveshark's woes appear to be related to a lawsuit between the company and Universal Music Group. The lawsuit, reported by CNET in January, alleges that Grooveshark is distributing illegal copies of the company's music. A similar suit with EMG was resolved in 2009. Grooveshark is still available for other mobile devices, so if you're a fan of the service, you may want to stick with your Cydia copy if your iPhone is jailbroken or download it to one of those. I don't think we'll be seeing this app back in the App Store until this lawsuit is resolved. Read More
Where to Find Free Online Music | Obsessed Analytic
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Jul 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Ever since the inception of Napster over ten years ago, online and free music has been the pursuit of people everywhere. The rise and fall of various music-sharing sites and complicated legal battles has made the process of gaining unbridled access to all your heart’s content of music a difficult undertaking.  Thankfully, the music industry is slowly warming up to free online music discovery, and below are great places to start when you want to hear your favorite song for free legally. There are a number of great sites for hearing free music online, but most limit your access to songs you own or offer random playlists of songs you may like.  One site that rises above the rest in its ability to provide all the music you want is Grooveshark.  The ad supported Grooveshark website offers full access to any song you can think of along with the ability to Read More
Music subscription services never quite struck gold with Internet users, but now that the smartphone is becoming the era’s standard listening device, a new gold rush is on. Established music services like Rhapsody, Pandora and Slacker continue to improve mobile service, but they are suddenly facing new mobile music competition. Depending on a person’s phone, budget and listening habits, the new services may be a better call. The services seem to be converging on the same target — namely, apps that let users hear personalized radio stations, build play lists and store songs for offline listening. No service has all of these features for all mobile platforms, but they are making progress. Rhapsody’s Premier service ($10 a month), for instance, is great for iPhone users, good for people with Android phones and useless on a BlackBerry until Rhapsody’s BlackBerry app arrives later this summer. Users can create play lists or listen Read More

Choose a clear night and hold your phone skyward, and the heavens suddenly make sense — that is, with the help of a stargazing application. If ever there were a type of mobile software guaranteed to elicit a grin, this is it. These apps — like Starmap, Star Walk, Pocket Universe, Google Sky Map and others — are part of a category known as “augmented reality.” The idea is to point a mobile device toward an object and let an app show you more about what you’re seeing than your own eyes could. At the moment, the category is in its nascent stages, with one exception — the stargazing apps. As for which app you should buy, it depends on your level of astronomical expertise, and what device you have. Pocket Universe ($3) and Star Walk ($3) offer great experiences for beginners with an iPhone. Google Sky Map (free) will do Read More

Rhapsody turns on offline music, Spotify goes social
Calendar16 Tue, 27 Apr 2010 12:11:31 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Apr 27, 2010 | Rhapsody for iPhone [free with subscription - iTunes link] has finally released an update to allow offline access to their music: With a Rhapsody subscription, you can tap into over 9 million full-length songs, and download as much music as you want to your device. Create playlists for your commute, your workout or your flight – and download them instantly. You can download and try Rhapsody for iPhone free for a week, and if you like what you hear, you can pony up $9.99 a month for a full subscription (which is locked to one iPhone). It’s US only, but we don’t feel too bad for Europeans as Spotify [Free with subscription - iTunes link] revealed they were integrating Facebook Connect for the usual slew of new social interactivity, including sharing playlists, favorites, and likely the ability to mass shun songs and users Read More
Rhapsody on Monday announced that it has added offline caching to the latest version of its iPhone/iPod touch/iPad app. The new feature lets users listen to music via the subscription service even when an Internet connection is spotty or nonexistent. The company noted in its announcement "This is the first time Apple has approved this feature in the U.S." Spotify offers a similar feature to European smartphone owners, but as many an antsy music fan knows, that service has yet to make it to American shores. Rhapsody recently released an app for the Android OS and is working on one for BlackBerry. The music service, which remained one of the bright lights in Real Networks' sputtering portfolio for a number of years, was spun off as its own company earlier this month. This post originally appeared on AppScout. Read More
One of the original pioneers in streaming music is still making waves. Rhapsody released a new version of its iPhone app that allows people to wirelessly download playlists to their iPhones, iPods or iPads and listening to them whenever — even if they don’t have an Internet connection. The move comes just weeks after the company, which was revolutionary at the beginning of the decade for offering an all-you-can-eat subscription model, began life as an independent company after been spun-off from RealNetworks. The ability to cache playlists is a much sought-after feature that hadn’t yet landed in the U.S. before. Berkeley-based competitor MOG plans to launch this feature on both Android devices and iPhones with a $10 a month subscription service in the second quarter of this year. The much-hyped Swedish startup Spotify offers this already. But sadly, it hasn’t been able to cross the pond from Europe. Rhapsody recently launched Read More
Rhapsody Offers iPhone Users Offline Listening
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Apr 2010 17:33:21 UTC +00:00
Posted 04/26/2010 at 9:33am | by Seamus Bellamy Rhapsody users rejoice! The music streaming service is offering their users the ability to download playlists to their iPhone for offline listening. Can flying cars be far behind? Yes--sadly, we're still decades away from viable personal airborne transportation, but at the very least you can listen to tunes from Rhapsody on your iPhone even when there's no internet connection available. According to AppleInsider, the latest update of Rhapsody's iPhone application allows the streaming service's subscribers to download playlists to their iPod touch, iPad or iPhone via WiFi or 3G. However, it does require that a monthly subscription fee. Now if that's not some good news to start the week off with, I don't know what is. Tags: Read More
Rhapsody Gets Offline Playlists on the iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Apr 2010 16:48:43 UTC +00:00
by As promised, music streaming service Rhapsody has released a new version of its iPhone and iPod touch app [iTunes link] that supports downloadable playlists drawn from the service’s library of nine million songs. Previously, you could only listen to your Rhapsody tracks by streaming them over Wi-Fi or 3G. You’ll need to be a Rhapsody subscriber to take advantage, but that’s true of the streaming service too. Luckily for you, Rhapsody just dropped its monthly fee from $15 to $10. That’s for one mobile device — you’ll need a more expensive subscription if you want support for more. While Rhapsody’s app is the first in the App Store to let you download your music like this in the U.S., Europe-only service Spotify actually released this feature first. It just isn’t available in the U.S. yet. The downloadable music (and the app in general) will become much more useful when Apple Read More
We have seen the promises that offline listening would soon be available for the iPhone, and it looks like it is has arrived courtesy of Rhapsody. The newfound ability with the Rhapsody app comes in the form of version 2.0 and is available for download as of this fine Monday morning. In order to use this new functionality, all you need to do is; “Simply launch your Rhapsody app, open the playlist and click the Download icon.” The bummer here is that the offline listening support is limited to playlists that you have created. That said, its still a nice feature to have and it was also promised that the ability to download individual songs as well as albums will be coming in the “coming months.” As for the app and service — the app can be downloaded for free, however to listen and take advantage of the Rhapsody service (including Read More

If you like music, you can't do better than this app. Stream almost any music, on demand, anywhere. And if you can't get good network connectivity in places, you can now download playlists for offline listening! I downloaded three playlists today, no problem. I would prefer downloading albums, but this will do for now. The app has been completely solid for me. I love it.
Crashes like Crazy !
hansjim 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Buggy , counterintuitive downloading Process . Crashes all the time . Can't even download radio stations as far as I can tell . Slows my iPod touch to a crawl . Not close to prime time . Seems rushed To the market . You see something you want to download, then you can't download immediately ,you have to save to my playlists . Then you have to find the playlist( I have alot of them ) , then you Hit download . A ridiculous way to do this process .
