Offline Listening Coming Soon To Rhapsody iPhone App
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Mar 2010 19:07:50 UTC +00:00
Rhapsody’s iPhone app already provides subscribers (Rhapsody To Go subscription costs $15/month) with over 9 million full-length tracks that can be streamed over Wi-Fi, 3G, or Edge, but the company is looking to make their service more enjoyable and much more convenient with the ability to download songs to your iPhone or iPod touch, pending Apple’s approval of course. Rhapsody’s recently released YouTube video shows the offline listening feature in action.  It demonstrates how you will be able to download a single song or entire playlists to your device so you won’t have to rely on finicky wireless signals.  Downloaded songs and playlists will be highlighted with an orange color while streaming songs remain blue for easy navigation.  Besides the obvious upside of not requiring a wireless signal, downloaded songs help preserve your device’s battery life by a relatively large margin. Rhapsody has stated that the update will be submitted to Read More
Rhapsody
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Sep 2009 05:21:50 UTC +00:00
Rhapsody is a service that offers music listening and downloading for a monthly fee. Now they have released an app for the iPhone that allows users who pay for a subscription to listen to music right on their device. The app let\'s subscribers search for any song that they can think of that is in the Rhapsody library, play it, and even form playlists within the app for later use. In concept, this is an exciting prospect for iPhone users as it is access to unlimited amounts of music. But it is not without it\'s caveats and issues. The largest issue of all of these is the monthly subscription. Even subscribers to the pc service must still pay another monthly subscription on top of the one they already pay in order to have it on their iPhone. Another large complaint is that the quality is extremely low. There are arguments over Read More
Weekly App Store Picks: September 12, 2009
Calendar16 Sat, 12 Sep 2009 16:00:37 UTC +00:00
The Beatles may not have arrived in the iTunes Music Store just yet, but it’s not all disappointing news: the App Store has been updated with a new look and a stack of new iPhone apps have been released. As ever, here are my picks from the latest additions. My top pick for this week is Hitchcock, plus I’ve also checked out Newsstand, Blades of Fury and Rhapsody. Hitchcock ($19.99) There’s a fantastic range of apps on offer to budding iPhone-based photographers at the moment. Tools such as QuadCamera and ColorSplash make for fun and effective photo-enhancing toys, and, once you’re done touching up your latest masterpiece, you can share your photography on Flickr via their official app. For folk who want to take their photography a step further and start dabbling in film, Hitchcock has arrived. Don’t let the messy interface fool you, this is a powerful app that’s packed Read More
Rhapsody app now approved
Calendar16 Fri, 11 Sep 2009 15:23:25 UTC +00:00
RealNetworks’ Rhapsody app has been approved and is now in the App Store. The app, which provides on-demand streaming music, had reportedly been submitted to Apple just over two weeks ago, and it appeared to stall in the approval queue. The RealNetworks blog elaborates on how the app works for subscribers and those who wish to try out the service: “If you’re already a Rhapsody To Go subscriber, all you need to do is download the app and sign in. If not, we invite you to try out the all-you-can-eat service for free! The app is yours to test out, and learn to love, for seven days (no credit card required). After that, you’ll need to either subscribe or continue not hearing what you want, when you want.” When first opening the app after downloading it, Rhapsody subscribers can get started right away by entering their username and password. A Jukebox in the Cloud: Rhapsody Comes to the iPhone
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Sep 2009 21:30:48 UTC +00:00
Rhapsody, the online streaming music service, just launched its iPhone and iPod touch app (iTunes link). While there had been some discussion about whether Apple would actually allow this 'iTunes competitor' on the iPhone, the approval process looks to have been relatively smooth for Rhapsody. The app feels very similar to Apple's own iPod app. From within the app, you can search Rhapsody's library of 8 million tracks, surf genres, create playlists, or find new music released this week. Overall, we came away quite impressed after testing the app out for a while, though the $14.99/month subscription fee (after a free 7-day trial) will surely keep some potential users away. In our tests, the app was very responsive though we should point out that it also crashed a few times during our tests this morning. Songs generally started to play after just a few seconds, though your mileage may vary depending Read More
Rhapsody To Go Makes Big iPhone Debut
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Sep 2009 17:45:25 UTC +00:00
Some skeptics were fearful that Rhapsody's subscription-based music on demand service would never make it to iPhone, well it did and baby it's ready to go. iPhone and iPod touch users can easily stream some 8 million songs over Wi-Fi, 3G or Edge. If you're already a loyal Rhapsody subscriber with an iPhone firmly in hand then you win. Otherwise a $15 monthly hostage plan is required to enjoy the long term benefits of this music streaming app. The company is gifting a free seven day trial as a proof of concept, hoping that iPhone users will be instantly hooked on the epic offering. That's yet to be seen. Rhapsody for iPhone is expected to make it's way over to Europe, but for now the app is only available in the US. After spending some time tooling around the app myself, waiting for songs to load, I found it to be Read More

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

This is the app I've been waiting for. Still playing around with it, but initial response is "love at first site." For all of us who aren't content to just take the music you own with you, this is a dream come true.
Just signed up and it's awesome!!
Nikko50 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Streaming music on demand rocks! I hate Pandora and Slacker becuase you have to listen to songs they feed you! I want to hear what I want and when I want it!
Finally!
delrecords 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Awesome service, finally on the iPod.
They forgot the most important thing
scottymoon 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
First let me begin by saying I prefer to subscribe to music. I rent tv, movies, books (library)..so why not music too? It allows me to explore more and not get caught in listening ruts. I installed this app hoping that I could finally have quality subscription music on the go and played with it for a while. Really like the UI, very intuitive. Unfortunately, they've forgotten the most important thing..sound quality. If the free apps like pandora and lastfm can have decent sound quality, then why can't an app that you pay $15 a month for deliver? I applaud the gesture, but a music app that doesn't deliver good sound isn't worth having.
4 stars...not quite yet 5...
Sublevel2009 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Nice UI, easy to navigate, hoping they improve the speed that you can scroll through playlists. Easy to get a free 7 day trial, I still like slacker radio better because it's free!!
Love it!!!
Cantura71 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Have been anxiously waiting for this this app since its announcement back in July! As an unlimited subscriber for the past two years this is a treat for my iPod touch! Finally having to be able to listen to full tracks and have access to so many new bands out there in one place is an early Christmas gift to me! Thank you Real for developing this and thank you Apple for delivering it to us!
About Time!!!
Perry in Rochester 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I requested or almost demanded this application 6 months ago when my wife got me the iPhone 3G for Christmas. I guess I'll be in music Heaven for the duration of my iPhone battery. I wonder how I can extend my battery life now? Still, very happy for this way overdue application. I don't think apple will regret this move at all.
Firmware 3.0?
Stylze1 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Why does it have to be firmware 3.0 or later? I don't see any 3.0 features. Sorry, I am one of those people who didn't want to pay $4.95 to upgrade. Make it work for 2.2.1 and I will raise it to 5 stars. FAIL!
Nice UI, only 64 kb streaming
awesomelinkin 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Apple crippled this app by limiting only 64 kb streaming. Thumbs up for Real!!
Awful quality
GigaTigga 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
64kbps is unacceptable in the age of bluray and HD everything. I doubt I would use this for free at the current sound quality, let alone pay 15 bucks a month for it. Try and apple.
What else do I need?
Bbbmmm 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been waiting for this type of implementation for 10 years. I could not be happier with the result.
Simply doesn't work
Smacula 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wow it just sits there spinning. I can't browse, I can't search, and I can't play anything. Very disappointing.
Audio quality stinks
hansjim 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Audio quality is just terrible. Distortion Evident all over the place n strong 3g Area . What a disapointment !
Great
OneLazyMFer 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is what I have been waiting for!!!!
The Wait Is Over!!
Diyogee 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The "Session expired" problem I wrote about earlier has been resolved. Awesome app! I used the 3G network to run my test as I plan to use the app away from my home network. All areas work as advertised. It loaded quickly, and did not drop the signal over the hour I used it. I highly recommend this app for anyone who is looking for a wonderful listening experience. The only thing I don't like is that I have to upgrade my unlimited account to use it. (These days every penny counts).
Disappointed
Cr3ate 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
that it is only for 'to-go' customers.
Never Pay for Music
Neckbone5 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Why would you pay for music on the IPHONE when you have Pandora or Slacker Radio?! Who cares about full albums! Who ever listens to full albums?
Sound quality
Socalfiremedic 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Dear Apple, We know you want to be a monopoly and have iTunes as the leading music site. But crippling other music apps such as this one (allowing 64kb) is just pathetic. Please grow a pair. Thanks.
Music on the road!
Snodoubt 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally my iPhone car adapter has a purpose!! My playlists pull up from my desktop and I don't have to listen to the same songs over and over on the road!!
No ToGo feature but the price
Wayniac42 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app requires a ToGo subscription, but doesn't have any ToGo features. For the price it should allow you to load up songs that can be played without a net connection. This is low quality steaming at a downloaded music price.
Darn it Apple...
CountryRickW 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Apple you couldn't have allowed at least 128 kbps? Or was AT&T the culprit....
Audio quality is horrible
Firefly11 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Please improve the quality of the audio.
Wow..
Musicguy21 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is pretty good.. Finally being able to have this on iPod and iPhone. :)
App is solid, audio quality is mediocre
gjimpy 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
If the audio quality was higher, this would be an easy 5 star review. It is my only complaint, but it is a big one. I could deal with lower quality audio over 3G, but it really needs to be higher quality over WiFi.
Quality Loss
Squeeze 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Sounds like AM radio. Even worse over standard earbuds.
Another Wish Granted!
TheRealDoubleG 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Thankfully Apple is open to approving great apps like this and not locking down their garden. As for the app itself; Great UI, syncs up with my Rhap account & hasn't dropped since I started using it this morning. Sound quality is on par with Slacker and Pandora. Great Job!
Great Start
capnjiggins 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
64kbps...really? Up the quality.
Has Potential But...
Anti2724 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app would be wonderful if it would do what it's supposed to do. It's very buggy and constantly crashes on OS 3.1 software. Hope the bugs are fixed soon!
Needs fix
cvbesq 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Would be a pretty cool app...if it worked over cellular network. Needs a update badly. Almost unusable except on WiFi.
How many subscriptions do I have to have?
Sally Mander 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Why should I have to have a togo subscription when I allready have an "unlimited" subscription?
Good and not so good.
Chrgeorgeson 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is what I've been waiting for!! Or so I thought. The program hasn't givin many problems but the biggest problem is the fact that the streaming is 64 kb quality. On my headphones I can tollerate this but it's very noticable I get used to it. However if Real is actually serious about getting more subscribers to join there Togo service and they heard the quality of this then people would laugh and promptly delete this. I know more support is on the way from Real such as downloading music to your phone (I doubt this will happen) and hopefully the streaming quality will get bumped up to atleast 128 kb. Until then this app gets only 3 stars from me two of those stars are for the streaming service bring available and 1 of them for the software seeming to be pretty stable but a bit slow at times.
Buggy
JC1738 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Crashes often. Hard to login, long wait for support. Poor sound quality.
Good interface bad sound
The mighty JT 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
The interface of the app is excellent. You can find artists, album, create playlists, but the sound quality is lousy even with great speakers.
Awful sound quality
DeadCanary 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Sound quality is horrible. For $15/month this is not acceptable.
Would be nice if...
thisux 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Okay so I have been looking very forward to this app. I downloaded it last night as soon as it hit the store, then went through the process of serting it up for the trial. After thr setup, I went and tapped the app...and it told me my trial had expired and I need to get a subscription. I tried again with a second email addy and personal info...to no avail. I have NEVER used any of Real Networks services before, and therefore have never used any kind of trial of their services. FAIL!
Nice Start
JJR25 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was not a subscriber, but downloaded this app and was impressed enough to decide to become one. Yes, the sound is FM car radio circa 1990. But, did you hear Pandora when its app first appeared? Was that mono? The bit rate will be increased, soon enough, and the sound will get much better. The criticisms below are often nuts. Gee, they charge money for "on demand" listening. Pandora is free, buy a computer programs YOUR music. You can't listen in the background. Big deal. Whose fault is that? All I know is that I listened to a collection that would have cost me $19.99 to purchase. That is more than the monthly subscription. I don't physically "own" it, but can listen to it whenever I want, along with thousands or millions of other tracks. Sounds like a darned good deal to me. And, it worked perfectly in my car for my entire commute. Both ways. Good job with the 1.0 app. It will only get better.
