It dropped its $9.99 price tag for the month of January, then made it permanently free last week. In the winter, I walk more than run in frigid Chicago. Who am I kidding: I mostly walk in the city all the time. The free RunKeeper Pro app for Android is my best friend in the winter, tracking my walks to and from work, letting me know that I walked off the calories in my skinny caramel macchiato before I even take a sip of my beloved coffee concoction. In the summer, it will be my sworn enemy, reminding me how much I haven't run on the beautiful lakefront. I use the GPS system to track different paths through the city to see which one gets me to work more quickly. If you choose, you can share your walking and/or running paths with others online. HTC Desire - upgrade from the beta Unistall the Beta before installing 2.7.3.3 - I like the new GPS lock feature. Works awesome on the desire - have been a happy runkeeper since september last year and have now ordered the polar bluetooth HRM so I can say good bye to my polar watch for good. If you have issues with it, it is likely that your phone hardware is old or you are running out of memory - like all software if you have too much crap in your phone this is not going to work well. Happy running :)

When this app works it works well, and my only complaint would be that it doesn't auto pause when I stop for stoplights. Often it freezes up and burns CPU for minutes or longer before it will let me press the stop button after my run. This makes it unreliable for general use, so I'm now only using Google MyTracks to get the GPX data, then manually uploading to runkeeper.com. The idea is great though. I'm extremely satisfied with runkeeper.com.

I like the app so far. I went ahead and threw down the $20 for elite for a year so that I can look at my route on the computer and get a good idea of how I am doing over time as opposed to just how I am doing. The coaching is pretty nice. I listen to music as I am running and it will chime in every 5 minutes or .5 miles letting me know my current speed, average speed, current distance, and a few more things. I need to get a armband because I am hurting my numbers when getting ready to run.

firstly, to the person asking about the contact info reading aspect....you can tag people in your activitys from your address book.....its very handy if your running with someone and cant be bothered to bring two phones as you only need one, all details instantly appear in the tagged persons account. as for the app...overall, great. hit one or bugs in the middle of the year, but the developers fixed that and have given us a great app. well done team, i look forward to beating my personal bests! :D

Cheap phones including anything from Samsung it seems, have A-GPS which requires information to be downloaded for a fast GPS fix and allows cheaper, less sensitive sensor to be included. I can download it with "GPS Status" app, then switch to RunKeeper and wait for the GPS timeout, hit "Continue". Usually get a fix in about 30s after that on my Nexus S at ~38ºN. Would be nice if I could just immediately hit start and RunKeeper would do A-GPS and TTS notify when GPS signal is good. -- elite user

This is a fantastic application and is extremely accurate on the GPS. It records every little turn I make. I think the GPS signal it reads is incorrect however. It says poor 80% of the time. One feature I would like added is an auto pause and resume when standing still like when you're at a corner. Also a warning before having the trainer speak when listening to music. Maybe a small beep as the warning. Other than that, it's a great application.

Decent enough to be my run tracker until I find one that doesn't suck resources like a sponge and, simultaneously, lag like a two legged polio cat when I need it to perform. I can't count the number of times I have screamed obscenities at this app at the end of my run because it has locked up my phone. On two different phones!! DROID X & Charge - both multimedia horses could not handle this resource vampire. Many nice features, but poor execution.

This app used to work quite well, and I'm not sure what caused the problem, but the GPS on my Sprint Galaxy S II and this app don't work well together. At the same time this app is reporting that I walked 141 miles in 48 minutes, my google maps is working fine. So something's up and I know that there are so many devices out there, but I hope the developers can look into this and fix it soon. I look forward to the improvement.

Like so many here, my RK has gone dead after the last update.. Like others the problem is that it is just not possible to get a GPS signal. And if it appears it finally has a signal, it will not track the run.. just time running. Been looking for an alternative since it appears RK will not be resolving this problem. Tried mapmywalk+ which at least is able to get a GPS signal. Tried Runstar too which seems easier to use than mapmywalk. Others have other suggestions on what app to use as replacement for RK?

Ben using this app for 2-3 years now.. Started out on iphone, only migrated to android (samsung galaxy s2) recently.. every new feature that has come along seems geared towards them trying to get more money out of you. Runkeeper elite has been around for a while, but until recently, I was still happy enough with what the standard package had to offer. Now that the website send to have been recently updated I can no longer access thee info that I used to. better off using sports tracker - at least thats free

I've had RunKeeper installed pretty much since it launched for android and use it to track walks/hikes. I love the features and interface that it has and that it interfaces with the website to track everything. But recent versions just stop recording GPS locations after a few miles which makes it useless most of the time. I walk along the UK south coast at the top of cliffs with very good visibility and good GPS signal.

I've been using this app for a while but it seems the developers have focused exclusively on the graphs on their site and let the other features (such as the app) decay. As other users have noted, the GPS recognition no longer works very well. The app itself feels cumbersome and doesn't have a lot of features that newer ones have. No music integration, no memory for previous runs/racing against your "ghost." Hard to export the data... Pros - connects to many other services.

After one month of using this app for my running and MTB workouts I can say GPS accuracy is excellent in my HTC Wildfire S. I love the flexibility of audio cues, especially in the coaching feature. The interface is ridiculously simple and user-friendly. If you're a statistics freak, you'll miss some data such as laps and altitude gain. You can still check this on the website though. As for the website itself, well, it's not very helpful if you like to have a general overview of your workouts. Enjoy it!

I tried this for a week, for about 20 miles of running on various courses. The app would randomly plot me at some distant point and then get back on track, so it thinks I covered like 1/4 mile in a matter of seconds. All of my runs therefore were way off, some by 30% or more overinflated. I thought it might just be the partial tree coverage from running in the park, but even running in the street in my neighborhood it was still way off. I ran in straight lines, but the map is full of zigs and zags. I love the interface, the vocal feedback and the social sharing options. But if the fundamental purpose of accurately tracking my runs doesn't work, time to try out another app.

On my Samsung Galaxy S2 I rarely get a signal but when I do the app is great! If GPS has not connected then the runs are stored with a time of 0:00 on the site, even though the phone reports the time correctly. It is clear from other comments that many of the GPS issues are related to the Samsung Galaxy S2. So your mileage will vary depending on your phone model. That said it is clearly an issue with the app itself on the S2 as other applications which use GPS (Facebook/Twitter/Maps etc) have no problem finding a location within a few seconds.

As accurate as can be expected, keep in mind, you keep reading about GPS issues below, GPS problems are due to the phone you are using and/or weather, it is not the Runkeeper app that is telling you you are running at 23mph!! The app reads and relays the info it gets from your phone's GPS. The app works great, aweseome to use for tracking your run history and improvements. Purchasing the ELITE version is worth the money, as it gives some additional fitness reports and access to Runkeeper Live that allows others to see your progress in real time. Some people complain about the $20 a year, I mean its less than $2 a month for a nice quality app. Yes some of the features you can get for free on other apps, but in my opinion you just dont get the nice interface you get with runkeeper on both the mobile and web versions. Not to mention the other apps you can track in runkeeper as well. I've got no Cons using this app, and have been using it for over 6 months, well worth it.

I've been using this app for more than a year in my Android - Huaweii phone. Every Android user complain about the current pace reported by the app. It is terrible wrong and we couldn't get any response from the support about this problem. They continue to release versions with useless things, like picture uploading, but no news about features that don't work. I'm still using it because I need the the training plans (splits based on kilometers or time), however, I wish others include this feature to move quickly out of this app.

I installed this app, as well as a few others, and went running several times using simultaneously all of them. On my Motorola Atrix 2 they all worked well, tracking and showing all info related to the workout and the route. RunKeeper, while doing a good job tracking the essentials, seems to have the least features among the lot. They all connect with a website on the internet where you can share your routes with others. The apps that I tried are: “Endomondo” (the free version), Google’s “My Tracks” (free!), “MapMyRun”, “RunKeeper”. I believe the choice it comes down to personal taste and preference related to the graphical interface, as all do quite a nice job. Maybe it’s just something peculiar to Atrix 2, but MapMyRun showed semnificatively higher battery usage. I used the apps with and without data enabled. They track in both cases, but you won’t be able to see the map without a data connection. In the future, I think I will keep using Endomondo and My Tracks at once, for comparison and double checking.

I had the iPhone version which was easily 4 stars. The Android version is awful. According to the GPS I run about 1 km further, zig zag across every street double back on myself and jump tall apartment buildings. The website is great, editable, with lots of information once your data has been unloaded. However that is pointless if the app data is wrong. Runmeter was the best for me on Iphone but that isn't available in Android. I have been trialing Endomondo for about a week and it seems fairly accurate. I

It must be amateur hour at the developers because this used to be a great app....now it doesn't work with my HTC 4G EVO....like so many others, it doesn't find the GPS and without that, it's useless. I turned it on just before sitting down to write this - and no signal - it's not my phone because Google Maps finds my location perfectly....last night I went for a 30 minute run - and half way through, Runkeeper came on and told me "distance traveled....0 . 0 0 miles at a pace of 0 minutes and 0 seconds per mile" I'd be happy to pay for pro version if I felt like it worked, but this has been happening for weeks now and they don't seem to be any closer to releasing a fixed version. Nothing else to do at this point but "UNINSTALL"

i have done everything...set my share settings to everyone my userame, email, settings, etc. are the same web vs app. the only thing i find that is different is that my DOB is a day off in the mobile app vs website and no matter how many times i correct it in the mobile app it states that it is "saving settings" when I go out and come back in my DOB is a day off again. and yes if it is syncing to my FB profile info my DOB is correct there as well. been coming back to runkeeper back/forth since June 2010 to give it another try thinking updates may have fixed the problem. very disappointed that haven't had any support from the runkeeper team. i have also uninstalled, reinstalled. disabled the connection to FB then reconnected...still nothing.

I absolutely love this product, and since I started using it I shaved over a minute off each mile. I like that it stops my music to read me the metrics I want at the intervals that I want. I also like the log of activities. My only complaint, and this is minor, is that sometimes the displayed distance is slightly advanced, and when I stop running at an even distance, out records it as slightly shorter. Nothing is worse than running 26.19 miles!

I love using this app. Been using it for 8 months and two phones. You can use it to keep track of a bunch of different types of activities, not just running. The audio cues are great for giving you feedback. Sometimes I encounter a few GPS related issues, but I think that's more the phone than the app itself. When I start up the app, I usually get a message about location not being available, but by the time I clear that, it's got a good GPS lock. The timeout might be a little on the short side for this message.

While bicycling, my recorded speed might shoot to 60+ MPH, then back down to normal, leaving me with badly skewed overall averages. Other GPS apps do NOT have this issue, and track very closely with my wireless cyclocomputer. I have seen forum posts that indicate that the developers are not interested in fixing this, so I will not file a bug report. It's a shame. I have tried many GPS based training apps, and I like the interface and features of this one better than most. However, it is unusable due to inaccuracy.

Awesome app until you get in an area where GPS signal is low, then it switches to triangulation through cell towers, which is inherently inaccurate in non-urban areas, so suddenly you jump off the path you're actually on. My 13 mile mountain ride turned into a 25 mile ride with location spikes nearly a mile off the path. I'd rather the app not locate again until the GPS is locked on again and just complete the path between the last two known points.
