Telltale Games Puts 11 Games on Sale Until January 29th
Calendar16 Mon, 23 Jan 2012 14:45:53 UTC +00:00
By Carter Dotson on January 23rd, 2012 Telltale Games has put a variety of titles on sale, including entries from a pair of original series. Telltale Games, purveyors of fine point-and-click adventure games, are launching a 99-cent sale that they are describing as ‘epic’. The sale, set to run from January 19th until the 29th, includes a total of 11 games. Included in the sale is the Hector: Badge of Carnage series, that takes a quirky, grotesque, and profane look at police detective work through the eyes of the crude Hector. All three episodes in the series for iPad are on sale, and the last two episodes are on sale for iPhone/iPod touch. The first episode for iPhone was published by original developer Straandloop, which likely explains why it isn’t part of the sale. The Puzzle Agent series is also on sale, for those who like their adventure games a little Read More
Back in December 2010, Telltale Games released the first episode of its [$6.99] series on the iPad. No further releases have seen the light of day since, but it’s not like the studio doesn’t want to push the rest of the games out -- it still does. At least, up until this April the studio was making its intentions clear. In an official forum posting, Telltale staff member Alan Johnson said more Monkey Island episodes, as well as Back to the Future, were in the pipe. BTTF Episode 2 [$6.99] released last month on the iPad. Other staff members backed him up in this thread, stating that other, later Tales episodes have been ported to the iPad and are now in some sort of testing phase. It was a concern of more than a few MI fans after the release of the first Tales game that Telltale would abandon the series. Read More

It recently has come to our attention that you have adapted a number of games from the Sierra classic library (the “Sierra Games”) for web-based and iPad play. We understand that you currently are offering these Sierra games via the website www.sarien.net (the “Website”). As you may be aware, your distribution and public performance of the .Sierra Games infringes Activision’s copyrights. (As you note on your Read More
When it comes to point-n-click adventure games, I think it’s safe to say tablets, such as the Apple iPad, are the perfect device to play such games. When it comes to those same types of games, one of the companies that I feel is delivering a solid experience in their games is Telltale Games. If you haven’t experienced games like Monkey Island Tales 1, Sam & Max, or Puzzle Agent on your iPad, now would be the perfect time to check them out as a little Telltale Games birdie just informed me that all of their titles are on sale for $2.99. It might seem strange that after all of the recent holidays and New Years sales that Telltale would all of a sudden drop the prices for their games. Although no big holidays are going on right at this moment, that is, unless you’re Australian, Telltale Games decided to drop the prices Read More
Holiday App Sales Galore
Calendar16 Wed, 22 Dec 2010 21:02:41 UTC +00:00
To celebrate the season a whole bunch of apps are going on sale. Here's the most comprehensive list available for which apps are seeing a discount. Last month our Thanksgiving meals were stuffed with lots of deeply discounted apps, and it seems that publishers are getting into the Christmas spirit in much the same way. We’ve got a whole slew of apps available at rock bottom prices just in time for your holiday celebrations, many at their lowest prices ever. Make sure and act fast though, as many of these apps are available for an extremely limited time. Also, be sure and keep checking this post regularly, as we’ll be updating all the new deals as they are announced. Much like Santa, we don’t stop working until Christmas, and we’re paid in milk and cookies. Speaking of, if you could leave out some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that would be delightful. Read More
It's a good time to be a fan of Telltale Games. If you haven't noticed already, the prices of most of Telltale's games are now a mere 99 cents on the App Store. What's the occasion, you ask? The cuts are in celebration of the release of Monkey Island Tales 1 HD [$6.99] for the iPad, Telltale tells us. And while the sale doesn't actually include the new release, it's nice to save some cash on the companies' other solid titles. Here's the full list of the games on sale: I think I think that Puzzle Agent is the most remarkable game on this list. It has its share of logic flaws, technical baggage, and interface woes, but it rises above all of it with sheer strength of character, oddness, and unique gameplay. I also think that most Sam & Max fans would agree on this same point in regards to The Penal Read More
In 2009, Telltale Games resurrected the Monkey Island series with the first Tales of Monkey Island, a classic point-and-click adventure game. Since then, original Monkey Island creator LucasArts has started rereleasing Monkey Island classics and Telltale has finished its series based on the highly-regarded IP. Both series' (including the rereleases) are successes, so it's only natural that we're seeing them on the iOS. The first Tales game, Launch of the Screaming Narwhale just hit the App Store for the iPad yesterday, actually. And like its' PC and Mac brethren, it successfully combines all the wit, the character, whimsy, and braininess of its SCUMM forerunners. But I often think that Telltale's greatest accomplishment in Launch of the Screaming Narwhal specifically is that it manages to make you feel like the franchise never died. It starts at the end of a game that was never made with an inventory filled with exotic items Read More
If being as quiet as possible about the Back to the Future episodic series was a goal of Telltale Games, well, mission accomplished. The first of five episodes is set to hit PC and Mac in December, with an iPad version slated to follow at some mysterious point after the fact. It's clearly an ambitious project. The series takes place after the events in the time-twisting third movie and boasts the on-hands support of BTTF stars, writer Bob Gale and actor Christopher Lloyd. And that's about all we know. Actually, until earlier this week, we didn't even know what the series would look like until Telltale slipped some images to IGN. Perhaps it was worth the wait because, as you can see, the game looks magnificent. Co-designer Mike Stemmle told IGN that the game takes a stylized approach and that's plain enough to see. In the above, Doc Brown and Marty's Read More

Telltale Games Reveals 'Puzzle Agent'
Calendar16 Fri, 30 Apr 2010 14:00:27 UTC +00:00
Telltale Games, the creators of Sam & Max [App Store] and Tales of Monkey Island, revealed a new iPhone-bound puzzle game last afternoon at a San Francisco-based event. It's called Puzzle Agent, and according to IGN's write-up, it seeks to jump outside the usual Telltale mold by integrating the studio's signature story-telling with Professor Layton-style, scene-based puzzles. The game's visual art is the product of former Telltale designer Graham Annable, the creator of Grickle. His pen and ink, purposefully crude approach comes through prominently in Puzzle Agent. Players will be controlling an FBI Agent named Nelson Tether and apparently will be tasked with uncovering what hidden mysteries the desolate and snow-laden Scoggins, Minnesota holds. Telltale Games started teasing Puzzle Agent via a splash page on their official website earlier this month. The page featured the Agent standing in the forefront of an old factory. A sign just behind the Tether's shoulder Read More

Top 11 iPad Games You Need To Be Playing
Calendar16 Mon, 05 Apr 2010 21:54:56 UTC +00:00
The release of the iPad is finally upon us. Some of you were sitting at home, sipping your morning cup ‘o joe when your friendly FedEx man came by to drop off your iPad, while others sat outside of your local Apple Store on a milk crate for a week straight eating nothing but Doritos and Mountain Dew. Regardless of how you obtained your iPad, the important thing is that you have it. I posted an article on Friday showcasing games that were readily available for purchase on the App Store. The list covered a lot of great games from equally great publishers, but it lacked something important: My own personal picks! That’s right, this here article is a way for me to share with you what games I’ve played and recommend to new iPad owners. So without further ado, let’s get down to business. It looks like we’re officially at the home stretch for tomorrow’s release of the Apple iPad as we’re now within 24 hours of its release.  If you’ve taken the plunge and are counting down the hours until its release, this may very well be the longest couple of hours you’ve ever felt in your life.  But hold on.  Have you even thought about what apps you plan on downloading for your new bundle of joy?  More importantly, what GAMES will you be wasting countless hours on your couch playing? Apple flipped the switch yesterday to allow iPad apps to be visible on iTunes.  The thing is, there are already a ton of games available for the iPad, and it hasn’t even launched!  That’s where your ole Uncle Danny comes in.  I’ve taken the liberty of scouring the App Store for any and every iPad game you should have your eyes set Read More
Some Early iPad Games that Have Our Attention
Calendar16 Fri, 02 Apr 2010 06:49:55 UTC +00:00
Today the iPad App Store opened up, revealing a great many iPad launch titles to those itching to see what they'll be loading onto their iPads when they arrive on Saturday. The amount of iPad app news this has generated today has us feeling as if we're standing in the middle of a tornado, admittedly. And so, without a great deal of rhyme or reason, I've chosen a few iPad games, now in the App Store, to highlight, the only real criterion being that they're titles we've not recently covered and are ones that I'm personally anxious to get my hands on. So, without further ado... The iPad adaptation of Minigore sounds better than ever with 14 playable characters, "guest stars" from Hook Champ, Zombieville USA, Sway, and Envrio-Bear 2010, and redone graphics to take full advantage of the iPad's screen acreage. Freeverse's real-time strategy title is here for the iPad, Read More

Best looking iPad game
Rat fan 5.0 stars Version: 1
This is an amazing looking iPad game! It's like having an interactive Pixar movie in your hand. The writing is super funny, and the puzzles are just right. Check it out!
Awesome Game!
cheekybear 5.0 stars Version: 1
Best looking game on Ipad that I've seen and funny as hell. I love the Sam and Max games and the Psychic powers really add to the adventure game experience. Look forward to the rest of Telltales games on the Ipad!
Sam & Max! funniest games around, my first iPad buy
McDangerous 5.0 stars Version: 1
psyched that one of my favorite games is here for my first ipad game buy. it's really fun to play on the pad. definitely suggest getting this one!
Hilarious... and fun!
Spoggy13 5.0 stars Version: 1
If you love great dialog, intersting puzzles, and quality storytelling, I'd highly recommend picking this one up. On top of it being a blast to play, the look of the game is great and the animation is top quality. I'm seriously blow away by what this game can do on the iPad. I can't wait for the next episodes!
Astounding!
WaterMedia 4.0 stars Version: 1
I've wanted to try these games for years now, but the lack of Mac support left me with no options... But playing this game on the iPad is a dream. The visuals are crisp, and surprisingly detailed. The controls are as simple as can be. And the writing and art direction had me at the loading screen. This is, by far, my favorite iPad launch game. Looking forward to completing the entire season on the iPad!
Slow
Unisonsporta 2.0 stars Version: 1
Needs some performance boosts and it will be great. Too slow to play
The Penal Zone Is Great, Performance Is Good! Reboot Your PAD Before You Launch The Game!
halfbaked420 5.0 stars Version: 1
I just got this for my ipad because I love these kinds of games, and this is a really great fit for touchscreen games. It's also really funny and so far my favorite on the iPad! 5 stars... Just like the iphone if you're having any issues frame rate or other with ANY higher spec games on your pad be sure to reboot your device before launching the game or if you have issues reboot and try again, it will solve the issue 99% of the time, memory gets jammed up sometimes after you've used the phone or pad for a long period of time.... Great job Telltale! I hope they offer the season pass option soon like they do on their games on other systems
Impressive game
McCheez 5.0 stars Version: 1
Super cool game. There was some minor hitching at first, but after I rebooted my iPad it ran great. I haven't played an adventure game like this in a while, so it was amazing to see how far these types of games have come. This is definitely one of the best games on the iPad.
Enjoyable, but Buggy
Brian Lutz 3.0 stars Version: 1
Once you can manage to get past some of the obtuse solutions to the various problems you'll encounter, the Sam and Max games are quite enjoyable, and this one is no exception. The iPad version is unfortunately rather buggy at this time, and I have encountered a number of sound glitches, occasional graphics problems, a number of app crashes and one hang that ultimately required a forced shutdown of the device to tesolve. Aside from the bugs, it does seem to run well on the iPad hardware. Nonetheless, I'll probably end up getting the rest of these on PC after this one.
Fantastic
Wildcardd 5.0 stars Version: 1
Any performance issues can be cleared up by turning your iPad off then back on. Other than that, it runs great. Can't wait for more episodes.
This is what the iPad was made for!
Mouseykins01 5.0 stars Version: 1
Playing Sam & Max on the iPad somehow feels like a glimpse into the future. A future of a beautiful touch screen interface, large screen, and portability. The iPad is the hardware that could finally lead to a resurgence in the adventure game genre. For a first attempt, Telltale have ported the game quite well. You will certainly need to reboot before playing, but the game holds up well. Some of the text could be sharper, and the graphics are a little scaled back from the PC and PS3 versions, but the touch screen and portability factors trump all that. Well done Telltale. Now lets see some more iPad love :-)
Great game, a bit laggy
Arzman 4.0 stars Version: 1
This is a great game to get for your iPad but it lags quite a bit. Sounds and gameplay will stutter from time to time, so maybe wait for an update before buying. Still, let's hope we see far adventure games because this is so slick. Come on Lucasarts, give us some old school classics.
More!
Physical Original 4.0 stars Version: 1
I would like to see Telltale release their whole library for the iPad. The ipad is a perfect platform for adventure games. This initial release could use some fine tuning, as it is a little jumpy at times (hence the four stars rather than five). It will mean a lot to me if they release an update in the next month to tweak things and I will definitely spend more money with them in the future! Since you guys are doing Lucasarts games you should see if you can do Indiana Jones! Looking forward to seeing Monkey Island hit the iPad soon!
Premium Price demands Premium Performance
pdelolmo 2.0 stars Version: 1
Sam and Max costs $3 more per episode on iPad than on any other platform. I could live with that if I got what I was paying for. Unfortunately, the performance of this app at this time is dreadful. Framerate is abysmal and responsiveness is lacking. I hope this poor optimization is due to telltale trying to beat the launch rush and can be fixed swiftly with an update. If not I will not buy future episodes on iPad and request a complimentary copy of this episode on PC.
Serious problems
Toriwil 2.0 stars Version: 1
After suffering through the first scene with jerky animation, garbled sound, and serious sound/animation synchronization problems, the game froze on a black screen. Rebooting the iPad got me back on the air, but I'm not about to continue the game with such poor performance. I have about 40GB free memory, so I expect much better from such an expensive app.
Good
Silvereel 4.0 stars Version: 1
Unsurprisingly a great game. It's not quite Hit the Road quality, but it's a long, long way from being anywhere near bad. That said, I wonder if the iPad really has the juice to run it, or if maybe it should have been toned down a bit. It runs decently most of the time, but from time to time, mostly during dialogue, it gets choppy and eve has a full time freeze, and the sounds that come out during this are cringe inducing. Perhaps I'm the only one having this problem, not sure, but I hope it gets a patch or something eon to fix it. I suspect it has something to do with apple not giving developers an actual iPad to work with prior to release, but who knows. Still, regardless of any put offs, I recommend this game if you want to have some fun on your new iPad, with more than a few laughs on the side.
Awesome!
riyadc 5.0 stars Version: 1
Now we need monkey island on the iPad!
Brilliant, but stutters sometimes
phopkins 4.0 stars Version: 1
Great game, as you would expect from this team. The puzzles are clever and the writing is top notch. One star off for some stuttering / lag / ear-splitting digital noise issues, though if you're running into them a restart of the iPad may clear them up. Looking forward to the next episodes in the series. They'll be day one must buys for me.
Sam and Max - welcome back!!
capy 5.0 stars Version: 1
I absolutely loved Sam and Max's original LucasArts game way back when, so seeing that the characters have survived for more adventures made me all tingly inside. That the game(s) are now on Mac and the iPad made me tingle all the more. The puzzles are as nonsensical and hysterical as ever, the dialog is sharp, the graphics are beautiful (especially on iPad!) and the attention to detail is mind-blowing. As others have noted, however, it's occasionally prone to some sound glitches and choppiness. I'm sure they're aware of this and that future versions will be free of it. Finished this chapter today after a couple of days of thorough, paced enjoyment - bring on the next chapter! Or add Monkey Island!
Looks great; plays awful
Hobo Newman 2.0 stars Version: 1
Horribly slow. Touch something and it takes forever to execute. Hangs up at points. Inexcusable. This is a perfect example of an iPad app that was rushed out the door. Hint system is terrible too. How do you get hints? It's never explained.
unplayable on ipad
robo-hamburger 3.0 stars Version: 1
Looks great and has an awesome plot (I love Telltale and sam and max) but its horribly broken on the ipad. The game seems to have fps problems and the sound does not buffer most of the time leading to jitters and completely distracting from what is happening. Also when I clicked on of the icons in the menu it crashed :( I suspect if they fix these problems it would be a 5 star game. Hopefully they do if they pan on me buying the other episodes and getting the 4 or 5 stars this game probably would deserve if it worked. **update** After multiple reboots the game runs now at a reasonable fps. Can still hear a strange audio artifacts on occasion still though. I will keep adding stars if it remains playable.
Potential...
Kaelef 2.0 stars Version: 1
I was really excited to try this game on the iPad, but the port needs some more work. There are frequent video stutters and audio noise. The engine is obviously overtaxing the system, which I can only assume means it isn't properly optimized. I'm surprised there's little mention of this in the other reviews. And to those saying that a reboot will solve the performance problems: a reboot did improve the situation a bit, but the problems do not go away and still ruin the experience. Besides, none of the other resource-heavy apps have required a reboot to perform well (including EA's impressive Mirror's Edge), why should this title be different? The characters and story itself are fun, of course. The technical problems ruin the experience on the iPad, though. Unless there's an update soon, I recommend buying this on another platform (PC, Mac, PS3).
Poor performance
GT8 2.0 stars Version: 1
Cool game.... But poor optimization leading to poor performance. Even after restart. Needs an update.
Awesome game, weak port
Timbomophone 1.0 stars Version: 1
The game looks and plays great! Unfortunately, the technical issues that others are talking about have definitely been occurring for me as well.. Most others have only been complaining about visual and audio hitches.. I am actually even ok with that generally, but this game does something even worse: gameplay bugs! I thought i was simply stuck during an early scene, nothing selectable seemed to progress the game. I restarted and it turns out that the control stick ( you use to move the character ) simply wasn't coming up when it should have been!! I restarted and made it through that part, played a few more mins, and experienced the same thing ( after restarting the iPad to clear memory even! ). Now I am giving up until there is an update... Please update this great game and get the 5 star rating it deserves!
Great game BUT
JamesSYencken 3.0 stars Version: 1
Great funny game that's let down by serious performance and crashing issues. Even with a fresh restart the game crashes for me every 5 minutes. Seriously needs an update to fix these issues.
