On this week’s BONUS episode of TAS, Eli and Brad grill the brothers Marsh, the two co-owners of the two-man studio NimbleBit. You know these guys, right? We’ve been raving about Tiny Tower [Free] for a couple of weeks now, and in the past, we’ve said many a good word about their other titles like Pocket Frogs [Free], Scoops [Free] and more. We hit several awesome points in an otherwise offbeat discussion revolving around the studio, how it got started, forgotten NimbleBit games like , what informs the Marshs’ idea of how to execute a free-to-play game, and Jon Romero. Turns out that even though Dave worked with the man, he never got the chance to oil his hair. Seems like a missed opportunity to us. There's a number of ways you can listen, either by subscribing either on iTunes or the Zune Marketplace, direct to our RSS feed. Alternatively, if Read More
Free games make me happy on the inside, and I imagine they do the same for you. So, it’s with pleasure that I get to announce this: Pocket Frog developer Nimble Bit’s entire App Store catalogue is now available for the price of zero dollars. That’s right, from now until an “indeterminate time," you can download every iOS game that Nimble Bit has to offer for free. We’re talking about over a dozen titles here, so I’ll be general with the following: our readers and ourselves pretty much have a universal love for everything Nimble Bit has to offer, so yeah, you should probably get on these ridiculous deals. I should note that, yeah, most of these games are free or have gone free before, but we’ve yet to see price-slashing on this scale from the studio. That said, here’s the list: App Store Links:    Mega Panda, Free (Universal)     Pocket Frogs, Free Read More

Scoops Gets New Life With The Addition Of Plus+
Calendar16 Tue, 06 Apr 2010 22:51:38 UTC +00:00
I have to admit, I have been a Scoops-a-holic ever since it was released for the iPhone and iPod touch way back in 2008.  The game is simply addictive thanks to its refined accelerometer controls. Scoops had lost a little bit of its luster for some over time as most casual games tend to do, but today it has received new life in the form of Plus+ connectivity. Scoops v2.4 now features ngmoco’s Plus+ social network.  The addition of Plus+ brings 13 challenging awards, seven different leaderboards, and five Plus+ Scoops-based avatars.  Awards consist of obtaining certain point levels, multiplier levels, catching a specific number of special scoops, and more.  The seven different leaderboards allow you to compete for the high score across the six different themes, and one leaderboard for total scoops. Speaking of themes, Scoops v2.4 features two brand new ones: Cupcake and Monster.  Both themes can be downloaded Read More

March 5th, 2010 James Isabel Every now and then, Nimblebit goes really mental and offers some of their iPhone games for free. They offered this game for free last National Ice Cream Day and now you get another chance. The amazing is again for Awareness Month! Scoops – Ice Cream Fun For Everyone if you must know is one of our first iPhone addictions where the gameplay is as easy as stacking scoops. The catch is that you have to avoid vegetables and only stack scoops of well, ice cream. New Downloadable Content! Ever since we last looked at Scoops, the game has received THREE In-App purchasable themes: the FREE Sky Burger theme, a Japanese inspired-Kawaii theme AND the latest Doodle Theme! You can see two of these themes used above. What Is Dizzypad? Heck since this promotion is due to Dizzypad, I might as well tell you what it is Read More

NimbleBit News: Moon Drop Gets Plus+, Scoops Gets IAP
Calendar16 Sun, 07 Feb 2010 17:30:58 UTC +00:00
February 7th, 2010 Daniel Silva NimbleBit remains as one of our favorite developers as they continually dish out good casual games. A couple days ago, they prove deserving of that by releasing updates to a couple of their MOST loved games! Scoops Gets In-App Purchase Themes! Earlier it seemed like it would be a sequel for Scoops (iTunes Link) but instead the original Scoops has been updated with in-app purchase for themes. So now you have the original Scoops theme, a FREE Sky Burger theme, and then the new 99 cents theme, Kawaii. Seems to be selling well, Scoops has just made it to the top 100 grossing. I’m personally liking the new theme more than the original. Can I haz more? Moon Drop Plus+ NimbleBit got rid of their Twitter highscore board for Moon Drop and has added ngmoco’s network which is more than an intelligent decision granted the size Read More
NimbleBit‘s Freebie Fridays usually entail giving away one of their popular casual iPhone and iPod touch games, but today’s Freebie Friday is much more than that.  Instead of just giving away a single game, NimbleBit has decided to make their entire lineup available for free to celebrate the launch of their new side project, App Classics. App Classics is NimbleBit’s new website that catalogues only the best and truly classic iPhone and iPod touch apps.  It’s intended to be a resource for not only new iPhone owners but also for those veterans who may have missed out on a few amazing apps.  App Classics utilizes a unique formula to analyze iTunes rating information to filter out and grade every one of those 85,000+ apps, so you will only be getting the best of the best.  The site contains a screenshot, description, and video for every app showcased. All NimbleBit Games Free Today
Calendar16 Fri, 09 Oct 2009 07:28:38 UTC +00:00
Freebie Fridays have been somewhat of a tradition over at NimbleBit, where they make one of their games free for a day to promote a new title or the rest of their lineup. In a somewhat unprecedented move, they've decided to make all of their games free for a day to promote their new project, App Classics, a web site that searches the App Store using various calculations in attempt to generate a list of the best and most popular apps available. If you're unfamiliar with NimbleBit's collection of games, here is what's available for free that would have cost you a buck or two yesterday (and will tomorrow): Hey guys, My friend and I just released the game, Scramble Your Friends, for iOS! It is very similar to Words With Friends and Hanging With Friends. Please check it out and let us know what you think! Here are the links: Read More
'Canabalt' – Run For Your Life!
Calendar16 Fri, 02 Oct 2009 06:38:21 UTC +00:00
I got a first look at Semi Secret Software's Canabalt [App Store] back at GDC Austin, received a preview build a few days later, and since then the game has soaked up an extraordinary amount of my free time. Canabalt has the same appeal to it as other extremely simple games for the iPhone like Doodle Jump [99¢] or the various NimbleBit games such as Scoops [$1.99]. The premise is simple-- You play as a guy who is running across roof tops attempting to escape from some kind of alien invasion that is constantly taking place in the background scenery. Along the way you will need to hop over boxes, break through windows, jump from crumbling buildings, and avoid other obstacles. The only control you have in the game is over your character's jumping. Tapping anywhere on screen jumps, and the longer you press the screen the higher you jump. What Read More
Last Chance Fire Sale: Scoops, Sky Burger, Textropolis
Calendar16 Mon, 31 Aug 2009 00:14:19 UTC +00:00
August 30th, 2009 James Isabel The iPhone community-tagged “polished games developers” Nimbebit has put some of their titles on sale to $0.99 this weekend, and this weekend only. There’s no further introduction needed for their games as they pretty much speak for themselves. Craving for a triple decker, a veggie burger or a halitosis burger? Look no further as this next game takes burger stacking to the skies, literally! [Read Full Review] Sure, the AppStore boasts games branching from the original TextTwist, (heck even TextTwist launched and yanked their game after finding a bug) but Textropolis tweaked the proven formula and made it its own, providing a bigger appeal way above its competitors. [Read Full Review] Ian first caught my eye with his offering. It’s got a little funky icon (I am a for eye-catching icons) so I told myself, hmmp! for $1.99? I figured it was a steal. Popular iPhone And iPod Touch Games On Sale This Weekend
Calendar16 Fri, 28 Aug 2009 22:08:46 UTC +00:00
This weekend should be great for iPhone and iPod touch gaming.  All but one of the titles listed below are on sale for $.99, which means you could technically purchase every single one of them for under $10!  More practically, you could also just purchase one and give yourself a $.99 gaming treat. Textropolis ($1.99 -> $.99): One of Nimblebit’s three titles that are on sale this weekend.  The game features a relaxed word-creating experience thanks to the lack of a timer, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t challenging.  It contains 30 different city names to create words from, along with definitions for each and every word. Scoops ($1.99 -> $.99): The stacking game that started it all. Scoops is probably the most recognizable Nimblebit title thanks to its solid accelerometer controls, easy pick-up-and-play gameplay, and global leader boards. Sky Burger ($1.99 -> $.99): It’s like Scoops, just with hamburgers and Read More
Ever heard of ‘National Ice Cream Day‘? Me neither. But apparently in 1984, Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday in July to be National Ice Cream Day. If I was president I’d do a lot of things like that as well. ‘National Steak Day‘, ‘National Wear a Velvet Robe to Work Day‘, it’d be great. At any rate, the only reason I’m mentioning this is the developers over at NimbleBit are giving away one of their games for free to coincide with the special day. ‘Scoops’ will be available for free via the App Store on Sunday, July 19th. The game is one of skill, and forces you to tower stacks of ice cream scoops as they fall from the top of the screen. But watch out for onions and other rude things you probably will not want to stack. The game is fun, challenging, and well put together. So, remember, Read More
The developers of Scoops and Sky Burger are back at it again.  NimbleBit‘s David and Ian Marsh have put together a short preview video showcasing the gameplay of their new iPhone and iPod touch game Moon Drop. Moon Drop is still in the early stages of development, so the artwork and gameplay have not yet been finalized, but from what we have seen so far, this one looks like it should fit in nicely with the rest of Nimblebit’s simple yet addicting offerings. Here is a short description of the game straight from the guys at NimbleBit: Your mission: Colonize the moon! Guide ever-growing waves of lunar landing pods down to the surface of the moon to populate it with as many colonists as possible. Using your touch guidance system, maneuver the pods to the landing pad at a safe speed, only so many mistakes are allowed! NimbleBit hasn’t announced an Read More
The generous folks over at NimbleBit enjoy giving stuff away every once in a while (just like us), and today they will be giving away their newest hit game, Sky Burger. Sky Burger is a creation straight from the brain of one Ian Marsh, the same developer behind another stacking smash hit stacking game, Scoops.  The goal in Sky Burger is to assemble the biggest and baddest burger possible by catching the ingredients that are falling from the sky on your bun.  Sky Burger features over 50 unique burger orders, extremely solid accelerometer controls, career stats, and online leader boards. Sky Burger is normally priced at $1.99, but for today only, it will be available for free.  Go download it for yourself first, and then tell all of your friends and family who own an iPhone or iPod touch about this great opportunity. Simple and addictive, a lot like Tower Bloxx.
Cool Game!!!
You Can't Stop the iPod 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Gameplay is great for quick periods. It isn't really addictive but you'd still want to play it every once in a while. The game has decent graphics but is in need of some funky music to get you in the mood particularly once your stack is way up there and it wobbles enough to make you think it's gonna crumble down. As a matter of fact I thought at first that balancing the ice cream stack had something to do with the game. Get your stack high, get it wobbly, make a drastic change in direction and the top portion of your ice cream stack falls off causing you to lose some points. Harder, yes? But now with double the fun. Definitely would have appreciated it more had this been the case. But anyway it's still a cool game considering it's priced at 99 cents. I'm also a bit confused with the bonus points from stacking similar colored ice cream. So does this mean that we should ignore falling ice cream differently colored with what's currently atop our stack and wait for the similar colored ones? Or is it still best to get as much as you can whatever the color? I guess what I'm trying to say here is that the primary and secondary objectives seem a bit unclear. Adding an element that meshes these two objectives like maybe a timer combined with a quota would make the gameplay smoother and more interesting to rack up points. But that's just my opinion. Oh and why not include the option to add your name to go along with your score? I think that feature should be a mainstay in arcade games. Overall this game is highly recommended for people in need of a simple but fun and colorful game. 4 STARS!!!
Never gets boring
iPhone-Junkie 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I've had this game over a month and out of the 148 installed applications on my phone this is the one play second or third most.... Top score 208,650. I wish an update could somehow add scores online.. Please add that!!!

GoaTcheeZe 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I got lucky and downloaded it when it was free, but I still think it's worth 99 cents. Since the download I've been playing it over fieldrunners.. And that's saying a lot. :-)
Absolutley addictive!
Runneryoshi105 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
I downloaded this game when it was being given away for free, and boy am I glad I did. What a wonderful game! The control is very intuitive, with a very shallow learning curve (or none at all, really!), and while the gameplay sounds simplistic enough, there is perfection in simplicity. Just wait till u start playing and you'll see just how addictive it can get! And the ice cream looks so gooood! :-P
Deliciously Scoopy! :P
whoneedsaname 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Omg this game is super addicting and total fun! I can't put my iPod down everytime I start to play it. The graphics are amazing, and the concept is brilliant. My favorite game! I love the new added chocolate scoops and mint and star ones! Awesome. Maybe you could add a bright rainbow scoop and make it sherbert and show the mixed color of the scoop? We should also be able to preview how big and what our icecream looks like at the end of the game. Love it, thank you!
A must-have!
A teenager :) 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Honestly, when I downloaded this game I thought it would be really lame. Catching ice cream scoops just sounds childish to me, but once you play it you're instantly hooked. If you have down-time in class it's fun to pass around your iPod/iPhone with friends and challenge each other; try to out-stack one another. I love this game. It is by far the most-played item on my iPod. This is a must-have for all iPod/iPhone users.
Great game!
Kenyadigg 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Simple but very addictive.
Awesome App!
appleappsrock 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
