Finally someone picks up the glove ! very nice implementation, I wouldn't write a 100+ pages script on the iPhone keyboard, but it's definitely helpful for a few scenes. Would love to see better import and export options. AND A BIG THANK YOU FOR LETTING US LOCK THE SCREEN TILT I WISH ALL APPLICATIONS WOULD DO THAT!!!

(Review of version 1.0) This is a really well done app. All of the basics are there, along with plenty of advanced features. I've been waiting for an app like this for a long time. I know it may seem odd to some folks to be writing a screenplay on an iPhone or Touch, but it's great for jotting down quick ideas that can then be brought right into virtually any desktop screenwriting app.

I find this really easy and natural to use, and it's great to have when inspiration strikes on the go. Makes excellent use of time on the train. The screen locking feature is great - who doesn't need to type lying down sometimes? And the fact that I can make big changes after the fact (e.g. reorder scenes or change characters names) is exactly what I need.

I have been waiting for a script writing solution for the iPhone. Up until this point, allbi've had is the ability to view a Final Draft doc as a PDF. NOW I CAN WRITE AND EDIT. Only negative is not being able to import scripts you wish to continue to work on. Hopefully this will be made available in the update.

The app works great !! And if the typing is runing a bit low. Just delete a few apps that you don't use anymore and it will run like magic again. :) Anyway thanks for this great app :D

NO TEXT FEATURES?!?!?(Cut/Copy/Paste - Predictive Spelling - Magnification are missing). Shouldn't that be the FIRST thing a word processor addresses? How could the dev think this would fly? Check every other review...people are going nuts when they see the app has been so severely crippled. Ludicrous mistake. As a professional writer, I'm flabergasted at how poorly executed this app really is. This version is truly a throwaway. It deserves 0 stars but I'm giving 2 charity stars with hopes the dev builds a REAL version of the software at some point in the future. I guess we'll see...but if anyone else releases a competing product before a new version drops, it's Game Over for these guys. It's just that useless.

The typing is delayed and slow, so don't expect to type too fast. Also crashed while I was writing and erased all the stuff I wrote. Wouldn't recommend this app. Save your money until there's an update.

How do you build a writing app for the iPhone and disable all of the writing tools Apple built into the iPhone OS? No predictive text = FAIL. No magnifier = FAIL. No copy paste = big big FAIL. all this because predictive Character selection was more important??? Makes no sense. Character selection could easily be done from a top or bottom menu popout menu. Makes ZERO sense to disable the standard writing tools. I want my money back now - this is an alpha test of their formatting engine right now at best. If the free upgrade doesn't add the basics back in I will demand my money back and start a campaign across all iPhone App review sites to ward off anyone from falling prey to this misguided approach. I am that passionately certain that disabling the standard text editing controls is a horrible idea and passionately believe this app could be fantastic and a crucial app to thousands of users. PLUS - the app continually crashed on me despite deleting other apps and restarting the iPhone 3G. Lost any of the work I tried to get done on this today. If you want to support the developer and they say the update will add in basic iPhone text editing capabilitis (magnifier, predictive text, select/copy/paste) go ahead and buy. But, seriously, wait and see what the update brings before doing any real work with this app.

I love the design of this app and the UI but have not yet used it's potential because it keeps crashing on me. PLEASE UPDATE with bug fixes!!!! Everytime I try to use landscape mode the app quits. I'm REALLY looking forward to using this app so please fix!

The idea is cool and long awaited, but this app keeps crashing on my iPhone 3G. And when it crashes, it loses my work. Typing is very sluggish as the app can't keep up with my tapping - and I am a one-finger iPhone typist.

Would be KILLER if the developers added text features back in (magnify, predictive, etc) and FIX THE SLOWNESS WITH TYPING!!!! I would use this almost daily if these things were fixed! HURRY PLEASE!!! 3 stars (for now)

This is the app that I've been waiting for but it's missing the import option. It's great to screenwrite on my phone but what happens when I add to my script from my laptop? Am I stuck typing those changes in rather than importing the file back onto my phone?

But c'mon, what's the deal with the typing! Why is it so slow?!?!

I love the idea behind Screenplay, and would use it all the time -- if it worked. Trouble is, the typing interface is incredibly slow, the app crashes without saving your work, and it doesn't export to any screenwriting program I use, including the promised Celtx. Add to that the lack of text features like predictive text, magnification, and cut and paste, and what you have is a useless and maddening app that's just begging for a competitor to come in and stomp. If the developer doesn't release a functional update soon, they're in for some dreadful grief.

I write with another writer who also uses an iPhone with Screenplay. But she can't import my script changes into her program via my emailed text. Big oversight. This program has the potential to be great if the developer sticks with it.

Firstly, a good idea as many of us have waited a long time for an iPhone screenplay software. However, execution wise it's poor. iPhone apps and software in general is supposed to simplify tasks but this actually makes it harder to write and edit. When i compare it with other note program I really think the creators have completely ignored usability features and gone for effects that have actually hindered the app.

Finally an app for us screenwriters! I love the user interface however, it needs some work. It did crash on my while composing my material. When I opened it back up my data was lost from where I didn't save it. You need an AUTOSAVE feature for whenever those unexpected crashes happen, we can open the app back up and continue from where we left off. I did notice whenever you hit the home key it saves it, that's good for toggling between apps. I can't stress enough about the autosave feature. I'm sure more updates will come to fix the bugs. Overall I think the price is worth it and I am thankful to have a screenwriting app. It has definitely won a spot on my phone! 

You gave me the excuse to finally try my hand at screen plays. Please copy\paste. Also make it easy to export and import. That is where the copy\paste will come handy. Oh and allow me to add slugs to the top. Looking at screenwriter and I realize it is missing some, including Fade In. Thanks for the new playground though. It makes this long form addict look at my fiction from a whole new angle.

Great app, off to a strong start. Definitely needs the features the users and the developer have already recognized. I'm using it to draft a short film and it's been great. I echo the need for copy/paste, transitions and text recognition assist.

The speed issue needs to be resolved as does the copy/paste and other text editing matters. However, this is a good beginning and I am looking forward to the updates.

EXCELLENT! Especially for a 1.0. Perfect if you get an idea while you're not at your computer. Instead of making a note, you can write the whole scene and when you get home, import it into you your real software. I'm so thrilled this exists. Yes, it could use a spell checker but, I can just as easily spellcheck after importing it. Hard to believe anyone is complaining about this. IT'S THREE BUCKS!!! Final draft costs fifty times that and it's still pretty shoddy software. Great job on this!

Very nice app. Perfect for writing a few scenes when Final Draft isn't handy. Here are some features I would like to see: 1. Import from final draft. 2. iPhone 3.0 features support 3. Outlining of scenes (not within a scene text). 4. Support of more formats, like Sitcom, doc etc etc I have an iPhone 3Gs so I don't see the slowness or crashing that was reported but this is their first version, I would cut them some slack until they release the next one.

This program is not ready for release Typing is so slow it can not keep up with even moderately quick tapping. Then it crashes so often it makes using it impossible. I have yet to finish three scenes in a row without a crash and data loss. Save your money and especially your time and skip this app.

I read all the reviews just before I purchased this app. I wanted to believe that the issues were blown out of proportion, but sadly they were not. I tried three (3) times to use the app but it crashed all three times before I could get a single word typed! So here's the deal: I bought this app in the hopes that the purchase will help you make it better. I'm considering this an investment into the future as I know this app could be amazing if all the issues addessed here are resolved. Ease do this with haste! I very much look forward to the update, and having a functional screenwriting app on my iPhone! Happy developing! ;-)

Good idea, too much crashing.

I agree with some people here. This has great potential. But the first and most important thing you have to correct is the auto save, given that it is so slow in the typing and when you are finally done with whatever scene you wrote, the app crashes and you lose everything! At least have it saved so you don't have to retype again and again. Very frustrating! If you are going to charge for this, please make the money work. I bought it even after reading the bad reviews, because I know that when all the bugs are fixed, this program will really rock! Meanwhile, I will stick to iNote, the best app ever to put down ideas on the fly.

The crashing is killing me. It always seams like right as I'm getting into the grove!! As soon as they fix I will be the fist person to have a movie come out that was written on an iPhone...I'm laying down the chalenge. Future web site soon to follow! Once the bug are worked it will be the best app ever!

I bought it to support the cause as well - I thought a screenwriting app would be the last thing I'd ever see. I expected it to be really buggy from all the reviews, but I just tested it and it worked just great (and I'm on a first-gen iPhone). There was a bit of a typing lag, but nothing dramatic. Thanks a lot, dev team, this is really awesome - can't wait for the next version!

I am only dissappointed in not being able to import CeltX files but I understand Final Draft is for serious writers whereas us poor fellas use CeltX to try and prove ourselves which warrants lower priority nevertheless this app deserves 4 stars- I'll change it to 5 once I can import my masterpiece from CeltX

Buy! Buy! Buy! Three cheers for the developers. After a much too long waiting period the update is here, and boy did they deliver the goods. From professionals to beginners, everyone needs to buy this app. I have a iPhone 3g and now it works flawlessly. Very happy customer, Ty devs for creating such an enlightened app. It works so intuitively, truly inspired work.

This was exactly what I was looking for - a way to write scripts on the go or whenever I have a moment or the inclination. The new version's interface is a HUGE improvement and proof that the developers aren't just sitting on their laurels. It's so much easier to use now, and the Final Draft compatibility is icing on the cake. Suggestions for future versions: templates for other formats (stage play, comic book, etc.). Great work, devs!

At last! I'm now able to import works in progress. Version 1.1 is a great improvement.

I've been checking everday for the past 3 weeks for the 1.1 update and finally I just downloaded it. After 10 minutes of trying it out, I can already say it's simply amazing. All I need now is Celtx support. Please, please, please bring the 1.2 update soon!!!
