Has Apple Adjusted the App Store Charting Algorithms?
Calendar16 Mon, 18 Apr 2011 18:10:00 UTC +00:00
Careful watchers of the top charts on the App Store have noticed an interesting trend over the weekend with various apps inexplicably substantially changing position. Previously (and possibly still currently) Apple seemed to use the number of downloads an app had to form both the top free and paid lists. While this method might have made sense originally, gaming these download-only lists has turned into a remarkably profitable enterprise for those that have apps with a large install base which also have a way to push users into downloading other apps. If you've played a freemium game lately that offered some kind of benefit for downloading a completely different game, chances are the developer behind the title you're being incentivized into downloading paid the original developer a bucket full of money for that promotion. For both developers it's a win/win situation, one (often) gets a fat stack of cash while the Read More
By Leanna Lofte, Tuesday, Feb 1, 2011 | Every day, TiPb gets flooded with announcements for new and updated iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad apps and games. So every day we pick just a few of the most interesting, the most notable, and simply the most awesome to share with you! Seesmic for iPhone was launched four months ago and just got a significant update. In addition to the usual iOS 4 optimizations for multitasking and the Retina display, Seesmic will now let you create and add to Twitter lists, view @ reply and DM conversations in a handy threaded view, and support for Facebook messages. There’s some interesting integration with two services built for saving content for viewing later – great for when you see a link to something interesting in Twitter, but would rather read it on the big screen later on. Finally, there are a few more aesthetic improvements, such as pulling down from the top of the list to refresh a timeline, and automatic refreshing when you reach the bottom. Seesmic was born as a browser-based Twitter client, but has since expanded to BlackBerry and Android, with plans to get in the door early with Windows Phone 7. Read More
UberTwitter isn’t the only BlackBerry Twitter client getting some fresh features. Although it’s not quite as big of a patch, Seesmic now includes integration with native Profiles, so you can set particular tones or vibrations for when you recieve Twitter mentions, direct messages, or load new tweets while any given profile is active. Additionally, there’s now support for Ping.fm groups, a few user interface tweaks, locally-saved picture thumbnails, and a security update to work with Twitter’s XAuth. The last significant update to Seesmic for BlackBerry was awhile ago, but including support for multiple accounts was probably enough to put it ahead of the official Twitter app. Seesmic’s first home was in the web browser, but it has since spread to BlackBerry as well as iPhone and Android. Download links to all three are below. – Download for BlackBerry (Free) [App World Link] – Download for iPhone (Free) [iTunes Link] - Download for Read More
Mobile Uses for Evernote’s Trunk
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Jul 2010 15:27:57 UTC +00:00
My infatuation with Evernote is not new. Evernote is my dumping ground for research ideas, quick notes, and web pages I’ve come across on the Internet and want to save for future reading — while I love Instapaper and use it daily (often to send content into Evernote), I also like knowing a page saved into Evernote is there for what passes for digital forever these days. When Evernote announced its new Trunk service on Wednesday, I was immediately skeptical and derisive. As I IM’d a friend, “Trunk? As in ‘Junk in the?’” Evernote has had an API for apps to connect to it available for a while. While the Trunk has been jokingly referred to as the Evernote App Store, that’s pretty much what it is. I don’t, however, think they are copying the Apple Store model; Trunk is more of a way to promote services that are Evernote-ready — Read More

Seesmic Social Network Aggregator Finally Hits The iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 25 May 2010 18:45:43 UTC +00:00
By Ben Harvell on May 25th, 2010 All of your social networks in one place and much more besides If you’re currently running Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz and MySpace apps on your iPhone, why not update them all from one spot? Say hello to Seesmic. Seesmic has been available on a number of mobile and desktop platforms for a while now and has, at last, made its way to the iPhone. For those who don’t know, Seesmic allows users to update multiple social networks from one place and by default offers Twitter, Facebook and Ping.fm. Ping.fm is a service bought by Seesmic this year and covers the rest of the social networks that include MySpace, LinkedIn, Flickr and more. Seesmic offers a clean, dashboard-like interface with spaces for each network, and customization options allow users to add a space for particular social networking feeds such as trending topics and searches. When Seesmic met Evernote
Calendar16 Sun, 23 May 2010 21:30:00 UTC +00:00
May 23rd 2010 at 4:30PM Since you already have an Evernote account, you could just email the article or tweet to your Evernote email address and then view it later in Evernote. I really wish there was a way to integrate these tools better with apps. I use NetNewsWire and Twitteriffic on my iPad, and I'd send things to Evernote if I could. Instead, since they integrate with Instapaper I'm forced to use that. I bet most of those apps you are thinking of support email. Email the item to your evernote email address which posts them to your library and syncs back to your devices. Ever heard of Instapaper? Many people recommended me Instapaper before, but for whatever reason I thought that it wouldn't be useful for me. Recently, I've just found out that the new Tweety version 3 includes Instapaper integration. I tried it for a couple of days, Read More
Seesmic for iPhone Launched
Calendar16 Sun, 23 May 2010 18:14:47 UTC +00:00
Seesmic for iPhone is a new Twitter, Facebook and all-round social networking client app.  It includes support for Twitter, Facebook, and Ping.fm – so you can update a slew of social network sites within just the one app. Here’s a little more detail straight from Seesmic’s Intro email for the app: Seesmic for iPhone brings an efficient perspective to social networking on a mobile platform. An application which enables Twitter, Facebook and Ping.fm – letting you update dozens of social networks at once (including MySpace, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Flickr, Blogger, and many more!), Seesmic for iPhone gives you the ability to see your friends timeline, your mentions and private messages, update or delete statuses, post links, upload pictures, geotag your updates and access user profiles. You can organize your accounts, searches, lists and trending topics all in a customized dashboard and navigate easily through it. Your Dashboard, Your Way. When you Read More
Seesmic for iPhone Now Available
Calendar16 Fri, 21 May 2010 21:16:07 UTC +00:00
Seesmic’s mobile foray kicked off with BlackBerry and Android Twitter apps, but has since expanded to new networks (like Facebook and Ping.fm) and is now available on iPhone.  The UI is pretty flashy, allowing users to add different profiles as thumbnails much like tabs in the Safari browser, and rearrange them as you would home screen icons. As fancy as that is, you can just swipe left and right to switch between your registered accounts if you’re looking for something a little more straightforward. Twitter is Seesmic’s biggest strength, providing support for lists, trending topics, retweets and quotes, direct messages, URL shortening, pictures, geolocation, and multiple accounts, but the Facebook support isn’t bad either – you can browse your news feed, and drop comments and Likes on items. A valuable addition to Seesmic for iPhone is Evernote, which store important items in the cloud for easy access later on. Seesmic’s acquisition, Read More

Seesmic, Twitter and the iPhone have all been around for a couple of years, but for whatever reason it took a while for French entrepreneur Loic Le Meur‘s latest venture to come out with a proper iPhone / iPod touch application. As of this morning, it’s here, and it’s … great. The application, which you can download from iTunes via this link, lets users manage their Twitter and Facebook accounts and update other social networks through Ping.fm integration (Seesmic acquired the company behind that service earlier this year). I’ll let you read the blog post and watch the video embedded below for more details about the Seesmic for iPhone app, but I think people will be interested to see how it stacks up against Twitter for iPhone (which was also released this week and is the latest iteration of Atebits’ Tweetie app) and TweetDeck. The short version: if you’re a fan Read More

Seesmic for iPhone Now Available
Calendar16 Fri, 21 May 2010 05:57:13 UTC +00:00
by The long-awaited Seesmic app for iPhone is now available. You can download the app for free from the iTunes App Store. Just like in its BlackBerry app, Seesmic for iPhone includes baked-in support for Ping.fm thanks to its January acquisition. You can also manage multiple Twitter accounts and your Facebook account within the app, along with saved searches, trending topics and Lists. Another nice feature is the four-paned splash screen that’s always easy to call up from the upper left of each individual timeline screen. It allows you to easily and quickly toggle between the various accounts you have set up within the app. Similar to the way iPhone app screens are arranged, you can add extra pages of accounts as well for easy switching between views. Just like in the iPhone UI, you can tap and hold an individual account icon on the splash screen to re-arrange the order Read More

This is a 5 Stars App. Ping.fm, Twitter & Facebook. Good stuffs!
Promising, but was disapponted

It seems like there's a million mediocre twitter apps out there and this (at v1.0) is yet another one. I like that it can update facebook too, but I use the Selective Tweets FB app for that. The New Tweet composer is the first thing I checked: no contacts or hashtag lists and it was uninstalled. I'll check back later.
