This is a really great game. I love that I can select my own tiles and backgrounds rather easily. I didn't like that on the Star Trek tiles the higher ranks were singles but still matched (I was so confused, ex Picard & Janeway match as do Lt Kira and Spock). Perhaps that is normal but I never knew you could do that.

This is a very nice version of mahjong with lots of tiles and backgrounds for a custom experience. Large selection of tile layouts to choose from that don't need to be unlocked. Includes an option for "windstorm play" which is a twist on traditional rules that randomly requires tiles be removed either left and right, up and down, or both ways. Unfortunately this game has a few bugs, particularly in the preferences area where menus are not always responsive. I also encountered a problem downloading a blank layout that got me in an infinite loop saying I won in 0 seconds with 0 points - the issue was resolved only be reinstalling.

I have browsed through all of the Mahjong games in the App store since it was launched. I settled on this one because of the ability to change the backgrounds and the tile sets. If you want an extra challenge turn on Windstorm! Great job, MobileAge!

For all the people commenting about the "bug" that "free" tiles cannot be chosen you should read the built-in documentation that explains the windstorm mode. Alternatively just tap on the compass icon in the bottom left hand corner; All will be explained. If you want to play the traditional east to west matching then you can turn windstorm off in the game prefs.

There's a bunch of mahjong games to choose for, but what won me over was the tile selection. And when you add in the low price, you can't beat it. Good buy.

Playing it on any flight recently. Great enhancements. Sometimes crashes while loading extra contenct (Backgrounds, tiles etc.)

Really nice job. Love all the downloadable tile sets and backgrounds. The game itself plays well though I think it might still be a little buggy: sometimes it tells me I have no moves left when I'm sure I do! Still, I look forward to future updates and the price is good.

This is a very good first try at the classic Mahjong game. The layouts are very varied and the game play is very natural. In fact, there are so many layouts that it is almost work to scroll through them all.

Just had to download this when I saw that the (huge!) tile selection included Star Trek character faces. How unusual! My only complaint is that the tiles are TINY and rather difficult to see. It would be so cool if we could zoom in and out, as we do with photos on the iPhone.

This is a fantastic looking mahjong game. The backgrounds are beautiful and you can easily download several different types of pieces. There is even a set with star trek characters!! That was a cool surprise.

love this game in other formats but the MobileAge verison for iPhone is a disappointment. the game looks and feels ported directly to iPhone instead of designed and scaled specifically for it. the tiles and game board are way too small to see, much less tell apart. in some configurations, some of the playing field is cut off top or bottom. here's hoping they get around to designing a version of this game takes the iPhone's screen size and scales the tiles properly.

I have tried most of the mahjong apps since I have enjoyed mahjong/shanghai for years. This one is great. It has multiple layouts, (and I mean multiple, not just 5 or 6), it has multiple tile choices and multiple backgrounds. The best thing about this app is you can have your own music or in my case audiobook playing when you play this app. Also, it does save your game when you have to leave real fast. It doesn't give you screens about saving or anything. There is one problem I do have though. When I have won the layout I'm playing, I like to change the layout. When I change the layout and tap go back to game, I'm thrown out of the app. This is so minor (still irritating though), that I didn't lower the rating because of this one flaw that I have found. Hopefully, in future updates this will be fixed. Thanks for having a great mahjong that is just like playing on my PC. Also, thanks for not adding a stupid quest. After a while, those quest games get boring. This is just a simple mahjong game and if thats what you want, this is the best one to get.

..... But whenever I win the game and want to switch layouts it cuts back to the main screen after you push start new game. If you don't hit start new game and just switch the layout the button stays down at the bottom. Love it but really wish you would fix this feature. Can't wait for a new update....

This is definitely a great game of mahjong. It's colorful, it's got bunches of layouts, and it's got the brilliant backgrounds and tile designs. This baby can keep me going for hours. But there is a problem that I couldn't help noticing. There are a few shutdowns, but those can be overlooked (because it saves your game anyways, and the shutdowns are only when somehtng is changed in the options). The problem was that it doesn't make sure each set up is SOLVABLE. I've had shuffles where I got rid of the only option there was (Yes, I'm SURE it was the only one) and it shuffled right after that. If you can take the fact that you have to shuffle a lot, this is a great game, and totally worth your money. But a good update would be to check for solvability...

I'm really enjoying playing this game. I find the tiles are easy to read and easy to see their position on the board without having to resort to tilting the board and zooming in and all that other stuff that to me might look cool but I really have no desire to fuss with. When I play a game, I just want to play and not screw around with visual controls and this game allows me to do just that! I recommend it.

When the App Store opened w/...all 5 Mahjong games, I purchased them all! I was so excited to have my favorite game on my Iphone! Shanghai by far is more superior than all the others. Just need to add some relaxing music. The 170 layouts are way cool. Diff. tile sets & backgrounds makes the challenge enjoyable. I paid 10$ for it and would have paid more because this version is worth the 40-50$ bucks I paid for all 5 versions. Also would love to have a mahjong app. where scores would accumulate from level to level and the boards alternate automatically! Now that's a great design for some game guru. I wished I knew how to create that type of mobile app for IPhone or any phone. That's ultimate mahjong, I wouldn't get anything done all day...I'm a mahjong junkie w/ a 10yr. habit!!!

I've noticed that the highest score you can get is always the same. There are times when there are noticable matches but it comes up and tells you no more matches. Also, you can get stuck doing a shuffle countless times because of the above bug. Other than that, it's a fun game, but I really wish the scoring system would be overhauled and that you could keep track of high scores.

I enjoyed Shanghai Mahjong on my mac years ago, and I really like this port to the iPhone. This late baby boomer does have to wear my reading glasses to see the tiles clearly, but I still find it very addictive and relaxing to play. The help files tell you that there are over 170 different layouts to choose from, and alternate tile designs and backgrounds can be downloaded from the internet. Endless fun!

Its a nice little app. but how in the hell, do I start a new game instead of having to reshuffle...?

i loved the game but now i cant play anymore everytime i try to play it says no matches i try to shuffle the tiles and start a new game it was great till now!

great selection of layouts and tile + backgrounds. I've been playing it for hours. watch out for the big mountain (or hill) layout though because it put me in an infinite loop of not having any moves available from the beginning and no option but shuffling or restarting, which did the same thing -- had to reinstall the game get past that. but otherwise awesome game!

I love this version of Mahjong. The customizable tiles are amazing and it has more layouts than I could ever use. The tile selection system is Genius. This is an all around great app.

This game will say you have no more moves left when in fact you do...on average, 2-3 times a game!

This game has lots of layouts - some easy, some hard. Good variety, nice screens. Lots of iPad mahjong games look too crowded on the screen or haventiles thatnare too small. This game has the best readability/layout combination I've played on this platform.Only reason for four instead of five stars is that I wish it had a dedicated undo button instead of having to go through the menu to undo.

I absolutely love this app. When I downloaded it I immediately changed my tiles to something psychadelic & difficult to differentiate. It made for a fun new challenge on an old favorite!  I love that the downloads are free & I love Shuffle so I don't have to sort through all the different boards. It's a surprise every time! This is easily the best Mahjong app out there & if you enjoy this timeless classic, you will LOVE this app. Also, I have an iPhone 4 running on the newest iOS update & I had no issues at all with load times.

I absolutely love this game! I have had it a while, and it just keeps getting better, and it outshines other Mahjong Solitaire games I have tried! The games themselves are really well presented and play well, with all the options you might need, and easy controls. There is a good variety of layouts as well as an option for random layouts. The variety of tilrset and background options are almost endless, and they vary from the traditional to the very unique. I love this game!

This is a great version of this game. Love the "Kung Hah" fortunes at the end. Huge selection of tilesets makes it more interesting. Great value for the price.

At the end of each game there is a fortune. Although I love this game, the fortunes are written thoughtlessly. They need to be reviewed and the ones that may be taken offensively, should be DELETED!

It has a lot of options with the ability to download additional tilesets and backgrounds. It's very well done. Excellent App! :)
