Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
SEGA Slashes Prices On The App Store, Too
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Feb 2011 17:48:57 UTC +00:00
OK. So, SEGA is following suit with the other big publishers on the App Store and is now holding its own personal deal-a-thon. Now, until whenever, you can grab around 16 different SEGA games for 80 percent off the usual price or just 99 cents. And we’re not just talking about the pub’s stable of lackluster Genesis ports getting the cut here; those games are part of the deal, for sure, but there’s also a few native gems mixed in. There are too many games to do a meaningful breakdown with, but here’s a list of what’s being offered and the prices of each: Not bad, eh? At this point, I’m not sure if we should say that the entire App Store is up for grabs, but it’s getting close as all these publishers start racing to the bottom. Who knew that Valentine’s Day would be giving us so much this Read More
SEGA Permanently Drops The Price Of All Its iOS Titles
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Dec 2010 19:36:14 UTC +00:00
If you were App shopping around Thanksgiving, you probably gobbled up one of two of the usually-premium priced SEGA titles on sale. If you missed out for one reason or another, well, here's your second chance at correcting that egregious error. SEGA has slashed the prices on every single bit of content it has on the App Store. From Chu Chu Rocket HD to Streets of Rage, every SEGA published or developed title's price has been permanently dropped. Now, you can grab titles like Shining Force and Ecco the Dolphin for a mere $.99, or even grab newer ports like Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 for $6.99. In the interest of keeping you fully informed, here's a list, provided via SEGA's own blog, of all the Apps original and new prices: Of course, just because these games are on sale doesn't mean you should go on an all-out Sega buying bender. iPhone apps on sale for Halloween
Calendar16 Sat, 30 Oct 2010 03:30:00 UTC +00:00
Happy Halloween weekend! This is my favorite holiday of the year, not only because it's a fun time for parties during my favorite season, but also because it seems to be an excellent time for developers to put a little something special into their apps -- like put them on sale. There are quite a few sales hitting the App Store this weekend -- Sega has some of their titles on sale again (including Ecco the Dolphin and the great Shining Force), and Namco Bandai is doing the same. You can pick up Bit.Trip Beat and the original Pac Man game for just a buck each, among a few other good deals. PopCap has brought Plants vs. Zombies down to a buck for the holiday, and EA has a "Monster Sale" going on, too, with Wolfenstein RPG, Snood, and more on sale for just one cent less than a buck. If you’re a fan of receiving free candy or for cleaning off an absurd amount of toilet paper off your front lawn, then you’ll know that Halloween is nearly upon us. Most people celebrate Halloween by paying money to go to places for the sole purpose of possibly getting frightened, walking with their children to complete strangers homes in order to get a treat, or keeping all of their lights off in order to avoid wave after wave of trick-or-treaters. If the last example sounds like your kind of Halloween, then why not take advantage of the big Halloween sales a number of iOS game publishers are offering for this weekend only? Playing on your iDevice of choice would certainly keep strangers from knowing you’re home, so give it a try! EA Mobile: SEGA: Namco: Gameloft: PopCap Games: Did I miss any games that are currently on sale from your favorite Read More

Aug 27th 2010 at 9:00AM Nice to know folks can still appreciate a classic! It may not look as sharp as even most retro releases, but Phantasy Star 2 was the bomb. Also, the soundtrack is still as amazing as ever. I have usually been hesitant towards buying re-releases of old games on new devices and platforms but an offer like this is just too good to pass up. Just bought Shining Force for a mere 0,79 €! awesome... thanks for the heads-up. sonic 2 in the bag. tonight i'm gonna party like its 1992. Sega iPhone App Sale Includes Sonic, Golden Axe and More
Calendar16 Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:45:57 UTC +00:00
If you’re looking for a bargain inside the App Store, then these Sega games should fit the bill quite nicely!  A wide variety of their popular titles have been dropped by at least 50%, so if you were ever put off by the slightly higher than average pricing of Sega’s apps, then now is the time to buy. Here are the games on offer, complete with their own easy link directly to the App Store: Both Space Harrier 2 and Sega Columns Deluxe remain at $0.99, and Sega’s brand new RPG release, Phantasy Star II,  sits at $2.99.  As usual, let us know if you picked up one of these bargains, and tell us what you thought of it! When Sega first started releasing its emulated games like Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99] and others, everyone wondered where Sega's array of classic RPG's were. Sega responded by releasing Shining Force [$2.99], leaving commenters and forum posters happy, but asking for the Phantasy Star series next... Which is exactly what Sega is delivering this Thursday. Much like Shining Force, Phantasy Star II is a turn-based RPG that works marvelously with Sega's emulator. Text entry is a little dicey, but otherwise navigating the game world and engaging in battles works wonderfully. The emulator also does a great job of saving the game state when you quit the app, making Phantasy Star II surprisingly workable as a pick up and play game. I still need to spend more time with Phantasy Star II, as like most RPG's the game is quite epic, but so far things are looking very good with Read More
There are a lot of options for turn-based and real-time strategy games on the App Store, and plenty of quality role-playing games too. But if you're looking for a combination of the two, your choices are sorely limited (unless you want to count the Sega rerelease of Genesis classic Shining Force [$2.99] that just came out). That changed yesterday however with the release of The War of Eustrath [$2.99] for iPhone. iPad owners have been enjoying this title for almost two months now, since The War of Eustrath HD [$7.99] has been available since early June. Now that the iPhone version has arrived, owners of both devices can enjoy tactical turn-based battles wrapped in an intriguing anime storyline. Since I missed the iPad version of The War of Eustrath the first time around, I was really excited to engage in some tactical battles with the iPhone version. What I wasn't expecting Read More
Sega's 'Shining Force' Sieges App Store
Calendar16 Thu, 29 Jul 2010 03:08:52 UTC +00:00
If you've been waiting for a game wrapped in Sega's mediocre emulator that's finally worth buying, that day has come. [$2.99] hit the App Store mere moments ago, and as mentioned in our preview yesterday, it's amazing how much the overall experience of playing these emulated games is improved when playing a slow-paced game that doesn't depend on emulator performance or precise controls. In said preview, I explained the basics of : While Shining Force may seem a little basic if you haven't played it before and your first exposure to turn based strategy games was Final Fantasy Tactics or later games, Shining Force has everything it needs for a great old school RPG. Each character has their own class (and personality which is often revealed throughout the story) along with special abilities. As you battle your units level up, and my favorite feature of Shining Force always was that there Read More
