Skyfire is among the most popular third-party browser apps in the App Store, bringing quite a few solid browsing features that mobile Safari doesn't have to the iPhone and the iPad. And here's yet another one: The latest update to Skyfire adds account switching capabilities, so multiple users on one device can have their bookmarks, history, account logins, and all other browser settings set for them when they first log in to the app. While we have seen information that many households run more than one iOS device, there are certainly plenty of houses out there where the family shares one iPad, and in those situations (as the company's trailer shows), account switching can be very helpful. Skyfire's feature is called HotSwap, and allows for up to four different accounts to be used on one device at one time. The app's probably most famous for allowing users to watch Flash-based videos Read More

App Showdown: Flash Browsers
Calendar16 Tue, 19 Jul 2011 20:04:28 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/19/2011 at 12:04pm | by J Keirn-Swanson Surprisingly, this is still a big honkin' deal for some people. iOS devices don't do Flash, they haven't ever, and the chances of them doing it in the future is next to nil. Natively, that is. Developers have been trying to crack this nut for some time and mostly, they've succeeded. Skyfire from Skyfire Labs, Inc. was probably the first big splash any browser had with trying to square the Flash circle on the iPhone. They offer two flavors of their popular Flash-enabled browser, so if you're running two devices it could set you back eight dollars total. Not that you couldn't run the iPhone version on your iPad and save a few bucks. If you just want to watch video, save a couple bucks with the iPhone version Skyfire has opted to ditch the less is more ethos of most mobile browsers Read More
In addition from the mentioned features above, Skyfire 3.1 also added a new 'related sites' feature, bringing a nice discovery element to the app – it will allow you to find new sites you might like. Additionally, it also enhances its customer service by adding a new and improved customer support process for when you need to submit feedback or bug reports to Skyfire's team. Here are some of the features and improvements added to Skyfire app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch: • Localized Versions of Skyfire: Skyfire UI is now translated and accessible in seven new languages: Italian, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Korean & Spanish • Video Failure Upgrade: We are continually striving to add more supported video sites & players each day – Our new video support flow makes it easy for users to connect directly with our engineers and support team for optimum customer service and to Read More

There's also an improved support process for when you need to submit feedback or bug reports to Skyfire's team of developers. User agent switching has been enhanced as well, allowing you to choose among desktop, iPad, and iPhone views of the websites you browse. Skyfire has added a 'related sites' feature, bringing a nice discovery element to the app, too. Flash-friendly Skyfire browser for iPad gets updated
Calendar16 Wed, 02 Feb 2011 00:30:00 UTC +00:00
After the initial iPhone, iPad and iPod touch version earned $1 million in its first weekend on the App Store back in November, the third-party iPad-specific web browser Skyfire for iPad (US$4.99) has been updated to Version 2.1.1 and is available for downloading now. Fixes in the update include auto-completing URLs, stronger privacy controls and several performance improvements. Because Apple's iOS devices do not support Flash, the Skyfire browser provides a workaround that transcodes Flash video into HTML5 and thus enables iDevice owners to access most Flash-based websites and videos. While Skyfire for iPad version 2.1.1 requires, well, an iPad running iOS 3.2 or later, iPhone and iPod touch users can download their own version for $2.99 from the App Store as well. Read More

Skyfire browser earns $1 million in first weekend
Calendar16 Thu, 11 Nov 2010 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
Nov 11th 2010 at 6:00PM I bought the Skyfire app within the first few days it came out, and to be honest, I bought it out of sheer curiosity, nothing else. I used it once to view an embedded vimeo movie on my site. Since that one use, the "gee-whiz" factor has worn off, and I haven't used it since. Also, the streaming video quality was much worse than HTML 5 on my phone. So all the video on the web being converted to HTML 5 would be a far better scenario for iOS users than to have to use Skyfire. In the article, it says "Using adaptive streaming technology, users can view full Flash pages on their phones." That's complete b.s. The author obviously has never used the app. All it does is allow you to watch flash videos. (And the interface is a little awkward, at that.) It definitely Read More

Skyfire Web Browser Back in the App Store
Calendar16 Sat, 06 Nov 2010 18:37:45 UTC +00:00
The Skyfire Web Browser app for the iPhone – which converts Flash video to HTML 5 for viewing on the iPhone – is back in the App Store today. It originally hit the store two days ago, but was quickly pulled by its publishers because their servers couldn’t cope with the load. Today it is back (at least in the US App Store), and I was able to install it just a short while ago – though I have seen reports that it is being released ‘in batches’ so its availability may be intermittent for a while. I’ve only played with Skyfire for just a very few minutes, but my very early impression so far is a definite ‘meh’. The app definitely does what it says on the box – lets you run (converted) Flash video on the iPhone – so full credit for that. My ‘meh’ reaction is because I Read More
November 6, 2010 by Brian     Earlier this week the much anticipated SkyFire Flash videos-enabled mobile browser for iPhone was launched, then pulled from the AppStore. The reason for that was that SkyFire’s technology does not actually play Flash videos in your browser, but rather first converts them into an iPhone compatible format. Their servers simply got overloaded and they’ve decided to take the app offline until they’ve upgraded their network infrastructure. Now SkyFire appears to be back and is currently available to download from the AppStore, still at the same introductory price of $2.99.   Related posts: Article by Brian My name's Brian, Brian Jones. SkyFire is Back in the App Store

After making a short apparition, SkyFire, the app that allows you to convert Flash content on your iPhone, was quickly pulled from the App Store by the company itself as their servers couldn’t handle the load. It seems things are getting better now as SkyFire is now back in the App Store. As TUAW‘s Steven Sande notes, you may not want to rush to the App Store to get SkyFire as the app is being released in “batches”… You can try to download SkyFire here at the same pricetag of $2.99. It’s been a long battle for Adobe in trying to get Flash on iOS. Steve Jobs has had some not-so-kind words regarding Flash in the past. Some of you may remember him calling Adobe “lazy” and say that they “have all this potential to do interesting things, but they just refuse to do it.” He then called Flash “buggy,” and said that “Whenever a Mac crashes, more often than not it’s because of Flash.” He then expressed his interest in HTML5 and said that the “world is moving to the format. Those words left a lot of people unhappy. To this day, one of the most common arguments you hear against the iPad (or any iOS device for that matter) is that “it doesn’t even do Flash.” That goes for the iPhone 4, the iPod Touch and the iPad. In this case it seems like both parties are right and wrong. While it Read More
We knew this day was coming but the Skyfire browser is now available for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. That means you’ll be able to get Flash content on your iOS device. If you don’t know, Skyfire is a mobile browser which aims to deliver content to the handset with minimal bandwidth. Like Opera, it uses proxy servers to deliver web content to the phone – that’s all back end stuff though, as it looks just like a standard browser to the user. The beauty of Skyfire on Android is that it is an elegant way to sidestep the Apple war against Flash because you can use it to access this content on the go. When you browse to a site with Flash content, you’ll get a pop-up option to view the video. We’ve used the Skyfire iPhone app and it works pretty darn well for most content. There are Read More

Egal. Skyfire Lets You Watch Flash Video On Your iPhone [Video]
Calendar16 Wed, 03 Nov 2010 19:47:53 UTC +00:00
Apple's deigned to let Skyfire, an iOS browser that transcodes Flash videos into iPhone-friendly HTML5, into the App Store, and it's available there now. In my testing it worked pretty darn well. Yup, porntubes on the iPhone. Updated Other iterations of Skyfire have been known to be clunky, but their new $3 app works as advertised: when you come across a site with a Flash video element it'll send that video out to its servers, transcode it into iPhone-friendly HTML5, and pipe it back to your iPhone. It takes 10 seconds or so to get itself situated, but once it does, the videos look pretty good. Skyfire's magic doesn't work with Flash games or Flash apps, or some premium sites like Hulu, but for the most part you'll be able to get at all the Flash video you come across while browsing, or the Flash videos you discover with the built-in Read More
UPDATE: Skyfire has been pulled from the App Store by Skyfire, not Apple, due to high demand. Skyfire’s current server capacity can’t handle the load, but the company is planning to retool and reintroduce the app. You can now get the much-hyped Skyfire browser for your iPhone, which brings the ability to watch Flash content. You won’t get that for free, though, as the price is $2.99 at launch, which is described as an “early adopter price.” So is it worth it? Skyfire works by sending Flash content to its servers, transcoding it using a proxy and sending it back to your device as HTML5. However, it has its limitations. If you were planning on watching Hulu on your device through its website, for instance, you’re out of luck, since it isn’t supported. It also won’t work with Flash games. It does, however, play Flash video without issue on many sites, and Read More

In case you just woke up, SkyFire is a new application that will take Flash content and convert it into HTML5 so you can view it on your iPhone. As we said before, SkyFire won’t be able to convert all Flash content. Hulu videos for example won’t be able to be converted. You can download SkyFire in the App Store for $2.99. November 3, 2010 by Brian     The much anticipated SkyFire browser for iPhone (and other iOS devices) is now available in the AppStore. 0088642 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Plays most Flash videos.
Not for iPad
Aronhowe 3.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
You have to hit the 2x button to view on an ipad screen and resolution decreases. Wait until ipad version is released if that's is the device you will be using it on.
Ain't bad for a first version
iET Calling Home 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Have been playing with it for a bit now and it makes a good first impression. Some videos take time to load even though I am on a fast connection. Maybe it is somewhat slow since Skyfire had to convert Flash through their server.
Excited to test it out

Sorry safari but you are now bumped into a folder I no longer use. Flash video support works and the interface is dope. The other options are cool also. 

Just downloaded Skyfire. Looks good but the screen seems to stick when trying to move it with my finger.
Great app
JoshuaT2G 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Does exactly what it advertises. Love this app. But the only grips I have are that it's not entirely optimized for the Retina Display. Also there is no scrubbing when playing videos. Overall I do recommend it.
I love it!

Awesome app! I can finally watch my anime on my iPhone 4.
It is O.K., just O.K....
novols 2.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
A few things I would like to see improved: 1. Ipad size screen rather than the infamous 2X button. 2. Smaller chrome at the top and bottom of the window, it gets in the way of content. 3. A way to import bookmarks from Safari on the iPad. With those improvements, this could be a 5 star, "every time use" type browser rather than a cut and paste for one video type browser.
Wow!

It doesn't work. It'll only recognize video form certain websites. All the sites that I went to weren't on there list. Wasted my money.

B.H. Faught 3.0 stars Version: 4.0.3
I like the browser. Works well, and plays flash videos on my iPhone4. However, it will not output the videos to my TV using Apple's A/V HDMI adapter. One of the main reasons I bought this browser was to watch tv shows in flash on my TV using my video out adapter. It would be much appreciated if some of you future reviewers could mention this. It may inspire skyfire to support video out for iPhone. I would certainly give this one 4 or 5 stars if that feature were enabled!
Very upset
Dolfin0531 1.0 stars Version: 4.0.3
This app DOES NOT work. It will not play any video that requires flash. Not worth the money and I actually want my money back! Shouldn't even get one star.
Great browser
Deadly Davy 5.0 stars Version: 4.0.3
I downloaded this to watch age-restricted material. Works well with most sites and formats about 80% of the time. Worth the money I paid for it.
OK, NOW this thing works!
jtboyd 5.0 stars Version: 4.0.3
The latest updates work perfectly on iPhone 4 with OS 5.xIts fast, it autohides all the controls and links now which is a major improvement for those who didnt like staring at all those Social links, and the video is smooth on most channels. A few still pop up as incompatible but thats really not an issue anymore. You can watch sports, movies, TV, sports, 24 hours a day. Its fantastic, my favorite app of all time. Thanks Skyfire!BTW, there was a glitch occuring with audio drops but that was fixed with the 4.0.3 update, and not only is it completely fixed, videos are loading faster, AND you can now pause live TV! Best $3 you will ever spend. Got me thinking about an iPad now.
This doesnt work
