Apple’s iPad and iPhone and the iOS software that powers both of those devices is all well and good if you’re a single geek who doesn’t have a social life, but what if you have a family? Everyone has their own email account, some probably even have more than one, everyone has a Facebook account, and everyone has their own set of bookmarks. Managing all that user data is currently impossible due to the lack of multiple user support in iOS, but today Skyfire has announced a solution called “HotSwap”. Simply install Skyfire’s browser [iTunes link], setup accounts for you and your loved ones, and boom, your iPad is now the post PC “family computer”. Now of course there’s a catch to all this. For one thing, Skyfire isn’t free. It’s a whopping $5, which is money that could be put to better use on a game or something. Also, don’t Read More
Skyfire HotSwap Makes Sharing Your iPad Painless
Calendar16 Thu, 15 Mar 2012 20:30:44 UTC +00:00
Minimize iPad sharing frustration with Skyfire HotSwap. Passing one iPad around an entire family can be frustrating, as everyone likely logs in to check their email and social networks without logging back out, and many folks will leave tabs open or clutter up the browser history with sites you could care less about. Rather than constantly log in and out and start to secretly resent those you love why not download Skyfire HotSwap instead? The new service, which integrates directly into the Skyfire browser, allows users to set up to four separate profiles on an iPad, each with its own social and email settings and browser preferences. Not only is it more convenient, it’s also a boon to user privacy, as now brothers and sisters don’t have to worry about the other spying on their email. Of course, by the same token parents may find it harder to keep tabs on Read More

App Showdown: Flash Browsers
Calendar16 Tue, 19 Jul 2011 20:04:28 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/19/2011 at 12:04pm | by J Keirn-Swanson Surprisingly, this is still a big honkin' deal for some people. iOS devices don't do Flash, they haven't ever, and the chances of them doing it in the future is next to nil. Natively, that is. Developers have been trying to crack this nut for some time and mostly, they've succeeded. Skyfire from Skyfire Labs, Inc. was probably the first big splash any browser had with trying to square the Flash circle on the iPhone. They offer two flavors of their popular Flash-enabled browser, so if you're running two devices it could set you back eight dollars total. Not that you couldn't run the iPhone version on your iPad and save a few bucks. If you just want to watch video, save a couple bucks with the iPhone version Skyfire has opted to ditch the less is more ethos of most mobile browsers Read More

TUAW TV Live is back for another hour of discussion, chat, demonstrations and unplanned technical difficulties. Starting at 5 PM ET, I'll be firing up the cameras and studio lights, putting on my Apple logo'd hat and talking about everything that's happened in the world of Apple over the last week or two. Not that anything big has happened... Following that, I'll be talking about ways that you can reduce the amount of paperwork on your desktop by using a few commonly available software tools and some relatively inexpensive hardware. App Review: Skyfire Web Browser for iPad
Calendar16 Sat, 01 Jan 2011 19:14:37 UTC +00:00
posted by Joe Rossignol on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 11:14 am.   Skyfire Web Browser for iPad (iTunes link), $4.99 USD, was finally brought to the iPad on December 22nd, 2010. As many of you probably know, Skyfire for iPhone and iPod Touch has been, and still is, a huge success in the App Store due to its ability to play Flash videos. Now let’s get started. Web browsers are used to browse websites online and Skyfire is no different. But what makes this web browser stand out from the rest of the web browsers available in the App Store is, as mentioned earlier, its ability to play Flash videos (Figure 1). In general, the browser plays Flash videos quite well. It takes about 10-15 seconds to detect and analyze the video and another 15-20 seconds to get it ready for viewing. Some of you may find this long, so Read More

SkyFire for iPad Out Now
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Dec 2010 17:18:54 UTC +00:00
SkyFire recently let everyone know that their Flash video supporting browser was on its way to the iPad, just as soon as Apple approved it for sale.  This simply had to happen today, as everything App Store related goes on hold until the 29th December from tomorrow; and SkyFire wouldn’t want to miss the Christmas rush. Sure enough, you can now buy SkyFire for your iPad and enjoy the majority of Flash video content on the Internet.  As we saw in the preview video, this version is slightly different from its iPhone-based counterpart, introducing the Skybar toolbar, a universal ‘like’ button, Facebook and Twitter integration and Fireplace, which gathers social networking links into one place. We noted at the time that SkyFire had kept quiet on the price of the iPad app and although we hoped it would be the same as the iPhone version, they’ve seen fit to raise it Read More
The Skyfire app came available for the iPhone back in early November and now it has come available for the iPad. Yup, those feeling the overwhelming desire to watch Flash video on the iPad can now do so—for $4.99. The app is available in the App Store and requires iOS 3.2 or later. Of course, with that ability to watch Flash video there is some limitations, no Hulu and delayed launch times as well as we few others. That said, there are a bunch of other nice features besides such as a private browsing option, a full screen mode, the ability to easily share on social sites such as Facebook and Twitter and more. Hit the download link below and check out the full features and “what you need to know” lists—or just download and begin surfing. Read More
By Andrew Wray, Wednesday, Dec 22, 2010 | After an anxious wait it looks like Skyfire is finally out for the iPad. Just like the iPhone version of Skyfire released in early November, iPad users can tap into the millions of flash videos available online through a clever on-the-fly transcoding process conducted on Skyfire’s servers. In addition to the regular flash-enabling features Skyfire brings to the table, the developers have packed in a ton of great social functionality for you to play with. You can do things like check your Facebook or Twitter news feeds from the bottom toolbar, along with sharing links to a number of social services and others like Read It Later. They’ve also decided to include a universal ‘like’ button for users who want to share what they’re reading (or watching) with friends on Facebook. But they didn’t stop there. Worth the wait
TopNotchreviewer 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
It's super fast, I got used to the iPhone version now that I've this on a 9.7-inch it's magical. Well worth the wait and 5bucks. Great job Skyfire team.
Crashes and logs me out
D-Mac the Mack daddy 1.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
This browser is terrible after the update!! I wish I can un-update this garbage. All it does is crash constantly and logs you out of everything: Facebook, email, google, stumbleupon, etc.... So after it crashes you have to log onto everything all over again, then crashes and you have to repeat the process. Terrible app, I'm sorry I even downloaded this garbage app. DONT DOWNLOAD, SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Messed up
TL**$$ 2.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
Last version & this version stopped playing cnbc videos, which is what i bought it for. Slow after update. Wish i could "un-update" too. If u want financial videos, may want to hold off until fixed. Also, when you open up multiple screens, you lose back button option at certain points.
Please fix
iBought this 3.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
I bought this app because of the flash support that it had. Thank you for that but the reason why I initially bought this app was because I wanted to watch the videos on project free tv .comThe vids don't work if you cam find a way around this I would greatly thankful.
A review that's not complaining about the lack of flash apps (like they want you to think)
Daniel Simmons 1.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
The quality of the videos is honestly awful, much worse than the actual quality of the video if actually watched with flash.98% of the videos I watched ( across over two dozen different sites) didn't have any actual playback controls other than pause, (it would when show the length/progress made in the video)There is no support or option for REAL tabbed browsing. C'mon Skyfire, It's 2012 and this is a tablet, not a cellphone. That window swapping thing isn't really acceptable anymore.
Flash vids, yay
Ken1970!! 5.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
Good browser and auto feature saves a step, nice. All in one browser.
Great
Trenteroo 5.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
This app was terrible. Until I found out about the update, and my requested website to add flash player to it has been accepted! Thank you skyfire.
Es bueno pero
Ocuatepotzo 4.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
Pero cuando activo mi iPad 2 en la televisión no trabaja como antes lo hacia espero que mejoren el programa pienso que la versión vieja era mejor espero su mejoramiento pronto ya que me costo 4.99 para mi tabla ...
It works as advertised!
MikeG361 5.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
It works where other apps that promise flash content didn't work.
Horrible
Badboy_1 1.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
This app is one of the Worst.. It was a fairly good app months ago..now it's an EPIC FAILURE! ... There's much better browsers then this garbage... Recommendation...DO NOT BUY!
Good but could be better
dizzymanfalling 4.0 stars Version: 4.1.0
It works but has some issues, all in all until the ghost of jobs tells them to include flash it will be a good solution.
