Skype for iPhone and iPad now at version 4.0

...using Skype on an iOS device may want to fire up the App Store and download the latest. Yup, Skype for iOS has been updated. And nicely done, bot... Read More
Skype has released version 4.0 of its app for iPad and iPhone (both free). There are a few nice changes this time around. The app now lets you pre-position your video preview as you like. It also restarts automatically after an "unexpected shutdown." That's "crash" to you and me. Skype also states that accessibility and overall stability have been improved, along with some minor UI improvements and bug fixes. The change log is the same for both apps. Go get it and start chatting. Read More

The new iPad is really an amazing communication tool. In addition to all the regulars; email, iMessage and FaceTime, the iPad also works with Skype. In fact, most of the great features we love about Skype on our PC or Mac work great on the iPad. After you create your account, you’re ready to log in to Skype on your iPad. To do so, follow these steps: Skype login screen   Search for Skype contacts Touch the contact and then choose Video Call or Voice Call Simply touch the Camera key along the bottom row of icons and choose whether you wish to display the Front Camera, Back Camera or No Camera on the screen. If you choose No Camera, Skype will still work, but you will just have a voice call without any video image. Choose Front Camera, Back Camera or No Camera to change the camera view From this section you Read More
One accessory category that always seems to stir up reader interest is wireless webcams. We've seen our share of them over the last year: the Stem Innovations iZon (US$129.95), the iBaby Monitor ($199.95), and the WiFi Baby 3G ($279) among others. Lorex, a manufacturer of a number of security cameras, has joined the fray with the $299.99 LW2031 Live Connect Home Video Monitoring System. What makes this system so different from any other webcam I've reviewed recently is its integration with Skype. You actually set up a Skype account for the webcam, and then make a call to that account to view your webcam feed. Most other webcams either have a way to be viewed directly through an app or have a website that you can visit to see your feed. Using Skype as an intermediary is quite smart -- many people already use the app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Read More
TUAW Best of 2011 wrap-up and editor picks
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
It's January 6th, 2012, and today marks the end of the TUAW Best of 2011 awards. This was a massive undertaking, with 25 separate categories all requiring their own nominations and voting from our readers. We've learned some lessons for next year's event -- start earlier, watch for astroturfing in the nominations, drop some unpopular categories -- and the Best of 2012 will be even better. The editorial staff here at TUAW agreed with many of the reader picks, but we had our own opinions on some others. We want to thank all of the thousands of TUAW readers who took time to consider their favorite accessories and apps, nominate them for an award, and then vote in the competition. Without further ado, here's the full list of winners as well as our picks for the TUAW Best of 2011: Editor picks: 13" and 11" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro Peripheral Read More
The nominations are in, and the poll is ready to go! The TUAW Best of 2011 awards are all about you -- the readers -- and what you think is the cream of the crop of Apple or third-party products and software. To vote, select one entry from the top nominations made by readers. We'll be announcing the winner in just a few days. Vote early and often! TUAW is asking for your votes for the best iPad social networking app of 2011. Once again, we got only a few nominations in this category, meaning that most readers may use their iPhones more than their iPad for their social networking. In addition, several readers nominated apps that run on the iPad but are not designed specifically for the platform -- they've been disqualified. As a result, I took a quick poll of a number of tech writers and bloggers to get Read More
Homescreens – Oktober 2011 (iPhone + iPad)
Calendar16 Mon, 17 Oct 2011 09:09:11 UTC +00:00
Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More
Five For Friday: Week Of August 5
Calendar16 Sat, 06 Aug 2011 17:58:35 UTC +00:00
By Lisa Caplan on August 6th, 2011 Our look at the best apps of the past week - this time all of them are free. This week saw lots of free apps with a heavy emphasis on consumerism and one we’ve been waiting for for a long time. We collected our favorite five freebies from the past week for our readers here. Skype for iPad The most anticipated free app that was released this week was Skype for iPad. The video chat service, that doubles as a VOIP long distance carrier for some, has had an iPhone app for a while, but now Skype is iPad native and the contacts area is redesigned. The app looks sweet and the video calls look great on iPad 2 FREE! iPad Only App - Designed for the iPad Released: 2011-08-02 :: Category: Social Networking Domino’s Pizza LLC Like we said, it was a consumer’s Read More
The iPad isn't just a hot new consumer device, it's also an increasingly popular tool for business. Each week we take a look at the new or updated business apps for the iPad, and highlight trends in how tablets are being used in the enterprise. This week we look at the new Workday iPad app, and more. This week ERP in the cloud provider Workday released its official iPad app. Workday provides a slick, HR-focused ERP solution and it seems like a good fit for the iPad. Skype officially launched the iPad app that we told you about in June, after some delay. Our coverage is here. As we noted earlier this week, real-time business intelligence and data visualization vendor Tableau released an iPad optimized version of its hosted service this week. All views are now optimized for tablet-sized touch interfaces. This week Nuance released PaperPort Anywhere, a cloud storage and Read More
Skype for iPad
Calendar16 Thu, 04 Aug 2011 23:58:32 UTC +00:00
The wait is over! The free Skype app for iPad is finally here. You can now use your iPad as a full fledged VoIP phone with the newly released official Skye iPad app which features full screen video calling and instant messaging. Using the large iPad screen you now have a beautifully designed interface with large contact photos and dual send/receive picture-in-picture style video feeds. Finally with the iPad app you can now be on a video Skype call and text simultaneously. The app is not universal, so you have a separate download for the iPad version and another app for iPhone and iPod touch users. With a little more money spent on Skype Credits you can even call regular iPhones and landlines straight from your iPad. If you sign up for a personal Skype number, you can even receive phone calls directly on your iPad. You can use the iPad Read More

Precio: Gratis Read More

Skype for iPad Hands-On
Calendar16 Tue, 02 Aug 2011 15:16:10 UTC +00:00
Only a month after it was supposed to be released, Skype for the iPad tablet has arrived inside the App Store.  It even continued its difficult journey by launching this morning, disappearing and then re-emerging a few hours later!  Now the VoIP app is finally here, has it been worth the wait?  To find out, I enlisted a friend and we got down to some serious FaceTime Skype video calling! After signing in, the app loads a two-panel main screen which looks very similar to iOS’s email client; displaying contacts and history on the left and big icons for all your contacts on the right.  As usual, they’ve got a green tick by their name if they’re online. Along the top of the screen are a few option buttons for making a call and adding or searching for a contact, plus if you tap your profile picture you get all your Read More
Update: The Skype iPad app is now available once again in the U.S. App Store, so if you like the looks of what you see below, go ahead and check it out for yourself. Late Monday night, Skype for iPad finally arrived in the App Store, after weeks of waiting. But don’t expect to find it there now; Skype pulled the app temporarily, saying it “went live prematurely.” We managed to grab the app before it disappeared (and it’s still available on some international stores), so here’s a look at what you can expect from it when it returns. Skype might have had an issue with the timing of the release, or it might have just wanted to make sure it was completely polished before it hit the streets. I noticed some slightly buggy behavior, like pop-up menus that don’t rotate when the app does. But overall, the product is ready for active use, Read More

I've been waiting quite some time for this. Skype for iOS is good, but it was not optimized for the iPad. Now it is, and it's great to use without a computer! Great job!
Thanks Skype
