Works great on iPhone 3GS
guggieg 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
I've used an earlier version of this app for about a year. I recently tried the basic SkySafari 3 version and moved up to this Plus version. The additional feature of satellites is great. It will enable someone to finally figure out what the object is that is moving across the sky at night. Is it an airplane, Russian satellite, or the space station ISS? Simply open the app and aim your phone toward the object and voila. The integration of SkyWeek and its nightly recommendations, shown directly on your device within the app, is another nice feature. As with previous versions, this continues to be my "go to" plantarium app.
Unqualified Endorsement!
9235S 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
I've tried a half a dozen different astro apps, and while there are other good ones, this is the best by -any- measure! And when you factor in the sale price, it's a steal. There are a LOT of options, but there is also the ability to save settings, so you can always just restore to the defaults, if you mess something up. The Help button takes you to a very well organized, and detailed help section. Strongly urge going through it to learn about all the features. The user interface is excellent. You can choose between just pointing the phone into the sky and have the display show you what you're looking at, or you can search for specific objects, and let the app center them on the display. This app comes in three different versions: a basic "lite" version, this one (plus), and a "pro" version. The only reason I didn't go for the pro is that I don't have the free memory on my iPhone - with over 15 million stars and hundreds of thousands of deep sky objects, it takes a whopping half gig! I'd suggest this plus version, unless you're very tight on space.Having had the earlier version, I can say that the people who created this app are very good about providing free updates, and they know astronomy.
All the best of sky safari plus more
dlitz 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
Every thing that sky safari has plus the expansion pack and best of all, scope control that works great for my Celeston slt.
Great App but so so update from V2
Robert Stark 4.0 stars Version: 3.0
I have version 2 of Sky Safari and have to say out of all the Atronomy apps out there this is by far the best. As a complete novice (I have an ETX60) the other apps out there always seem to have something missing or the interface was lacking, etc. SkySafari got it right. It is completely customizable and allows you to show as much or as little (very useful for me) as you want. The ONLY reason this was not a five star was because going from version 2 to version 3 there really isn't very much differance. There are some nice new feature but it wasn't a re-write that would justify a completely new app. I don't know of many iOS devs that do that. BUT it is an outstanding app.
Improved ease of use in an already fantastic app
puppyz 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
This app has many new ergonomic improvements compared to the earlier ver. 2 such as an expanded menu bar and smoother panning and animation. I especially like the life size Messier objects and the ability to make list as well as a built-in list of important visible objects. Having the gyro mode, compass mode, and night vision switch on the menu bar adds to the ease of use. I use this app on an iPad2 to operate a high end Takahashi telescope using the Wifi interface (SkyFi) with no problem. It is more convenient than running on a laptop computer program that cost hundreds of dollars and is great to show off at star parties.
Crashed 3 times last night
bseiler2009 3.0 stars Version: 3.0
Used SkySafari 3 last night for first time at Star Party. App crashed 3 times so bad that I had to use the recovery keys to get my ipod touch 3G to work again. Something about being zoomed in to see Saturn and pressing the time key.Wait for 3.01 before you buy!
Get This!
Tomrobbe 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
I have been using ver. 2 for about 4 months on an Atlas mount. Works great! I have many more astronomy apps but this is the only one I use now. Ver 3+ is even better and support is fast and very helpful/friendly. There is so much here for the money it's almost criminal. I thought about the pro version but frankly there is way more than a lifetime of info in plus.
