This Week at 148Apps: May 14-18
Calendar16 Mon, 21 May 2012 02:26:13 UTC +00:00
By Chris Kirby on May 20th, 2012 This week at 148Apps, Nintendo lost, the Avengers entertained and MocoSpace studied. There's more just under this blurb. Read away! This week at 148Apps.com, Kevin Stout examined the question more than a few of us are asking: Why won’t Nintendo release any games for iOS? Stout writes, “Nintendo recently reported its first annual loss, showing that perhaps 3DS isn’t enough of a success. Nintendo hasn’t even released its legacy games on mobile platforms where others like Sega have (Sonic the Hedgehog). While current CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, is in charge, it’s unlikely that Nintendo will acknowledge its mistake. When asked about releasing Nintendo games for smartphones, Iwata replied, “This is absolutely not under consideration. If we did this, Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo….”’ $2.99 Released: 2009-05-21 :: Category: Games Meanwhile, Amy Solomon at GiggleApps took a look at a new Marvel Avengers Read More
Daily iPad App: Sonic CD
Calendar16 Wed, 28 Dec 2011 01:30:00 UTC +00:00
Honestly, I can't really profess to be that big a Sonic fan. I like and have played most of the 2D iterations of Sega's headline platformer series on the Genesis, the Game Gear, and most recently, iOS. But I'm not a superfan by any means, and if I've ever played Sonic CD before, I don't remember. I certainly never owned it (though I do remember renting a Sega CD with a friend and playing Night Trap and Sewer Shark over a few weekends). All that said, Sonic CD, release just recently as a universal app for iOS, seems to me to be an exceptionally faithful port of what I do remember about Sonic, offering up colorful graphics, strong controls (performed with a virtual pad and jump button, and all of the standard complaints that come with virtual controls), and a great Sonic soundtrack. I do know that Sonic CD is heralded Read More

It looks like the iOS sales to help Japan in the face of the tsunami have been successful. Street Fighter IV and Sonic the Hedgehog both appear on the top-selling and top-grossing lists. Read on for the rest of both lists. Top-Selling Apps #1: Tiny Wings Our Score: 4/4 Our Bottom Line: Tiny Wings is brilliant in its simplicity, originality, and ability to keep you coming back again and again. #2: Angry Birds Our Score: 4/4 Our Bottom Line: Destructive physics help make this a very charming puzzler, and the great level variety seals the deal. #3: Street Fighter IV Our Score: 4/4 Our Bottom Line: Street Fighter IV sets the golden standard for iPhone fighters. #4: Angry Birds Seasons Our Score: 4/4 Our Bottom Line: All the fun of Angry Birds, but more challenging, and with pumpkins and presents. #5: Fruit Ninja Our Score: 4/4 Our Bottom Line: As far Read More
Living more than 5000 miles away, it’s hard for me to imagine the tragedy that struck Japan this past week. A devastating earthquake rocked the country from top to bottom, followed by a tsunami that reached practically every Pacific Ocean coastline. Many different organizations have set up channels to offer relief to Japan, and even in our tiny iOS corner of the world two Japan-based developers are doing their part as well. Sega has dropped the price of every Sonic the Hedgehog game from now until March 20th, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Red Cross Disaster Relief in Japan. 3 of these 4 Sonic titles are emulated Genesis games, with Sonic Spinball being the one that works the best with virtual controls. Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 don’t fare as well, as they require the precision of physical controls, but honestly they work good enough to give you Read More
Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
SEGA Slashes Prices On The App Store, Too
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Feb 2011 17:48:57 UTC +00:00
OK. So, SEGA is following suit with the other big publishers on the App Store and is now holding its own personal deal-a-thon. Now, until whenever, you can grab around 16 different SEGA games for 80 percent off the usual price or just 99 cents. And we’re not just talking about the pub’s stable of lackluster Genesis ports getting the cut here; those games are part of the deal, for sure, but there’s also a few native gems mixed in. There are too many games to do a meaningful breakdown with, but here’s a list of what’s being offered and the prices of each: Not bad, eh? At this point, I’m not sure if we should say that the entire App Store is up for grabs, but it’s getting close as all these publishers start racing to the bottom. Who knew that Valentine’s Day would be giving us so much this Read More
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More

SEGA Permanently Drops The Price Of All Its iOS Titles
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Dec 2010 19:36:14 UTC +00:00
If you were App shopping around Thanksgiving, you probably gobbled up one of two of the usually-premium priced SEGA titles on sale. If you missed out for one reason or another, well, here's your second chance at correcting that egregious error. SEGA has slashed the prices on every single bit of content it has on the App Store. From Chu Chu Rocket HD to Streets of Rage, every SEGA published or developed title's price has been permanently dropped. Now, you can grab titles like Shining Force and Ecco the Dolphin for a mere $.99, or even grab newer ports like Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 for $6.99. In the interest of keeping you fully informed, here's a list, provided via SEGA's own blog, of all the Apps original and new prices: Of course, just because these games are on sale doesn't mean you should go on an all-out Sega buying bender. TiPb Picks of the Week
Calendar16 Sun, 05 Dec 2010 14:28:50 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Sunday, Dec 5, 2010 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked this week, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! I haven’t used a day runner or paper calendar since my first Palm Pilot. To me, this is the real magic of using a handheld digital device. I got spoiled using Agendus on my Treo, and in addition to just noting my calendar events, I want multiple ways of viewing them, icons, and more. CalenGoo really fits that niche for me. It gives me many more options than the (lousy) iPhone calendar, and syncs Read More
Select Sega iPhone Games on Sale for a Limited Time
Calendar16 Fri, 08 Oct 2010 08:48:15 UTC +00:00
If you’re like me, and use your iPhone for gaming perhaps just a little too much… Sega has a nifty little deal on right now for a ‘limited time’ (I have a love/hate relationship with these offers… love the deal, can’t stand it when I don’t know the end date!). At any rate, if you’re tired of paying full price for games, you can take a breather and pick up any of the Sega games listed below… for a pretty darn good price: Not bad, not bad at all. Of course, Sega hasn’t dropped any end dates for this pricing, so if any of these titles look appealing to you… I suggest you pop open the App Store right now and get them while the gettin’ is good. Regular pricing on these games sits at $5.99 for the Sonic games and Super Monkey Ball 2, while Phantasy Star II usually prices Read More
It's about that time for many gamers to start heading back to school, and it can be a difficult task to say goodbye to the lazy days of summer. Your friends at Sega want to make this transition just a little bit easier by offering just about all of their App Store titles at a discounted rate until September 1st. And Sega's not alone, as developer Meridian is celebrating the one year anniversary of their popular dual-stick shooter Alive 4-ever by putting their entire selection of games on sale for the next three days. If you haven't had a chance to pick up any of these titles before, now is your chance to do so and save a bit of cash in the process. Sega titles on sale: Meridian titles on sale: Besides these specific sales, there's pretty much always other titles with price drops at any given time, as most Read More
Sega iPhone App Sale Includes Sonic, Golden Axe and More
Calendar16 Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:45:57 UTC +00:00
If you’re looking for a bargain inside the App Store, then these Sega games should fit the bill quite nicely!  A wide variety of their popular titles have been dropped by at least 50%, so if you were ever put off by the slightly higher than average pricing of Sega’s apps, then now is the time to buy. Here are the games on offer, complete with their own easy link directly to the App Store: Both Space Harrier 2 and Sega Columns Deluxe remain at $0.99, and Sega’s brand new RPG release, Phantasy Star II,  sits at $2.99.  As usual, let us know if you picked up one of these bargains, and tell us what you thought of it! When Sega first started releasing its emulated games like Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99] and others, everyone wondered where Sega's array of classic RPG's were. Sega responded by releasing Shining Force [$2.99], leaving commenters and forum posters happy, but asking for the Phantasy Star series next... Which is exactly what Sega is delivering this Thursday. Much like Shining Force, Phantasy Star II is a turn-based RPG that works marvelously with Sega's emulator. Text entry is a little dicey, but otherwise navigating the game world and engaging in battles works wonderfully. The emulator also does a great job of saving the game state when you quit the app, making Phantasy Star II surprisingly workable as a pick up and play game. I still need to spend more time with Phantasy Star II, as like most RPG's the game is quite epic, but so far things are looking very good with Read More
Sega has released a number of classic Genesis games on the App Store- Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99], Streets of Rage [$2.99], and as of last night, Ecco the Dolphin [$2.99] and Space Harrier II [99¢]. In the past we've been increasingly critical of Sega releasing these emulated games, as while the games wrapped in the emulator are undoubtedly classics, the emulator itself leaves much to be desired. Revisiting these games with my iPhone 4 has revealed that Apple has finally released hardware that is fast enough to properly run Sega's emulator (although I have had weird crashing issues with Sonic 2). If you've got an iPhone 4, the games run substantially better than the 3GS/3rd generation iPod touch, leaving the touch controls as the only issue. If you're stuck in the world of the iPhone 3G or 2nd Generation iPod touch, you're still Read More
Two big pieces of news just leaked out of the Sega HQ, and it's really a toss up as to which is the more substantial tidbit to gamers. Around these parts, most will likely be much more interested in the fact that Sonic 4 is officially coming to the iPhone, just as we suspected in early February of this year. We don't know much more than that currently, although it's likely safe to assume the game will be controlled like other platformers on the device and hopefully will perform much better than the emulated Sonic games previously released by Sega. Secondly, the release of Sonic 4 has actually been pushed back by Sega to "ensure that Sonic 4: Episode I is a game worthy of bearing the weight of its name." This marks a substantial change of pace for Sega, as the entire Sonic series, arguably going all the way back Read More
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Getting iPhone Release
Calendar16 Thu, 20 May 2010 21:45:16 UTC +00:00
Sega's much-anticipated upcoming game, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, has been revealed today to be getting an iPhone/iPod touch release, in addition to console releases. This has been rumored since the website first went up this past February, as a graphic was found on the server relating to a possible iPhone release. This will be the blue blur's first premier game on the iPhone, alongside the previously released classics, Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. (Oddly enough, there is no planned release for Sonic 3 & Knuckles at this time.) It is unclear whether this release will be identical to the console releases, or a watered-down mobile edition (as many cell phone games are). In addition, the release date, originally slated for Summer 2010, has now been changed to an even vaguer "late 2010." Sonic 4 is the direct sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the first game of the original series Read More
Believe It: Sega Ultimate Genesis Emulator for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:42:45 UTC +00:00
Posted 01/20/2010 at 7:42am | by J.R. Bookwalter Old-school gamers look back fondly on consoles such as the Sega Genesis, which launched the esteemed careers of such characters as Sonic the Hedgehog. Very soon, you can relive those bygone gaming days on your very own iPhone. While Apple has been fairly hardcore about denying emulators a place at the App Store table, Gizmodo is reporting that Sega is about to unleash an official, approved app called Ultimate Genesis in early February. Of course, Sega is no stranger to the App Store, having already released a handful of titles, including Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and the aforementioned hedgehog. Those releases were technically emulated, meaning the apps were emulators with the official ROMs packaged inside -- great for gamers since they were faithful adaptations, although they were a little slow on anything prior to an iPhone 3GS. Thanks to the App Store’s Read More
iPhone Gaming: Looking Back on 2009 and Forward to 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Dec 2009 20:20:34 UTC +00:00
With the year coming to a close, I feel confident in saying with as much authority as I can muster that 2009 has been an amazing year. Soon we will be posting the results of weeks of deliberation on what we feel were the best games, a holiday buyer's guide for people who opened an iPod touch or iPhone this Christmas, and other year-end stories highlighting the various games we feel are the "must-haves" of 2009-- But it hardly seems right to summarize the year in a few simple lists of game titles, brief synopses and links to reviews when so many remarkable games were created and events transpired that were still highly noteworthy or influential but fall outside of the rigid boundaries of "best of" listings. When the App Store first launched on July 10th, 2008, very few people, myself included, realized the full potential of a reasonably open platform Read More
November 19th, 2009 James Isabel SEGA is finally making a comeback after the sh1tteous port of Sonic the Hedgehog. This time they’ll be bringing the sequel to one of the AppStore’s flagship games (Super Monkey Ball)… Super Monkey Ball 2 (doh!)! got exclusive info and screens from SEGA which we will rehash and decrypt for you. Are you excited for this sequel? Controls Still A Problem? There’s not even a question that the original’s control scheme had all sorts of wicked problems. From unresponsiveness to laggy-ness to being just pure SCREWED UP! All that changes with the sequel as SEGA deemed this to be the biggest problem with the original… HALLELUJAH! At least they admit to it. To prove they’re even more serious this time around, they brought in another developer Other Ocean for the sequel. What’s New? There will be 115 stages and 5 new themes inspired by the Wii Read More

set 08 Quem comprou, comprou.
'Streets of Rage' - More Disappointment From Sega
Calendar16 Fri, 17 Jul 2009 06:39:45 UTC +00:00
Sega released the 1991 classic Genesis game Streets of Rage [App Store] tonight, adding yet another port to their increasingly disappointing lineup of $4.99 Genesis games. Sega started churning out ports with Sonic the Hedgehog [App Store], which was playable, but performance problems made the game lose its luster as soon as your sixteen bit nostalgia was quenched. In our first look at the game we liked what we saw, but pleaded with Sega that they do something to optimize the emulator as we realized the full potential of the Genesis catalog on the iPhone. A while later, Golden Axe [App Store] was released. When we checked out the game we noticed this iteration of the emulator was slightly improved with the addition of an accelerometer-based control method, although, in the end, for many it wasn't very much fun to play after the nostalgia factor wore off due to similar performance Read More
The question of emulators
Calendar16 Fri, 26 Jun 2009 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
Gizmodo recently posted this video, which is beautiful to any PSX-era gamers: it's running right on the iPhone, thanks to the 3GS hardware. How is this possible? Through the magic of emulation -- ever since computers got powerful enough to pretend to be other computers, people have resurrected old consoles and hardware by writing code that makes old games and software think its right at home in the computer it belongs in (an old NES system, a Genesis, or even a Playstation or Nintendo 64). As a result, by loading up ROMs into an emulator program, you can play old games you can't find (at least working) in the store any more. But the problem, as it usually does, lies in the legality. Even though those games are hard to find, companies still often own the copyrights on them (Square, for example, just released FFVII in an official emulator on the Read More
Ring-a-Ding-Ding Sonic the Hedgehog is Now for iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 01 Jun 2009 20:00:17 UTC +00:00
06.01.09        App Score: 9/10    Nearly six months to the day from Sega’s release of Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone, Sega’s golden boy, , has made his official appearance in the App Store. Arguably, Sonic is to Sega what Mario is to Nintendo and because the iPhone and Touch are so handy for portable gaming, most users will welcome a title like Sonic the Hedgehog with open arms (and open wallets). I know I was certainly one of Sonic’s biggest fans during his original debut on the Sega platform and to this day, have every inch of the first two Green Hill Zone levels memorized and could play through them in my sleep. It stands to reason that the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog for iPhone and Touch left me eyeing it and wondering whether the translation from platform to platform would go well and in many Read More
Sonic the Hedgehog
Calendar16 Wed, 27 May 2009 12:20:33 UTC +00:00
Sonic the Hedgehog is a character only second in popularity to Mario himself and is the gem of SEGA's once great empire. After being on several consoles and a couple handheld devices, the super fast blue hedgehog has now made it to the iPhone and iPod Touch to fly through levels at lightning speed. Right from the beginning as the classic SEGA intro rolls across the screen, you know you're in for a blast from the past. Featuring the exact same graphics and excellent soundtrack from the original Sega Genesis game, Sonic the Hedgehog will bring you back to the days sitting on the couch trying not to lose all your rings. The game starts up quickly and is basically a port of the original game. The controls are handled by the onscreen joystick and A button. The view can be switched from fullscreen to an arcade mode which basically shrinks Read More

Sonic Reclaims His Fame
AlbieOne 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I remember when I was a young and carefree lad who would rush home afterschool to play with my Sega system, and one of my favorite games was Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic would go on to bigger and better things and have his own series with Sega and arguably become one of video game history’s most recognizable icons. There was no doubt that Sonic would eventually reach the shores of the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. From the looks of it, Sonic may have found a new home.
Major Issues!
VisualSmith 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
High hopes but very disappointed! I should have listened to the review from ilounge. The problems listed below are consistent, even with a full restart of the device. 1. Frame Rate is very low and unpredictable and leads to an overall sluggish feel. Hardly the Sonic we expect. 2. Music suffers the same sluggishness. The tempo varies evry few seconds. I could give this a temporary pass if it occurred during high action moments but it can't keep up with no motion! 3. Due to the above the game is frustrating and unplayable. The positives are: 1. Controls seem good if you could actually play without the display problems. 2. The game save your progress on exit, just like an eternal pause button. 3. The graphics hold up well for a game this old, even in the full screen view. It looks a million times better than on the old Game Gear screen. To bad it doesn't run as smoothly! I hope that this can be fixed quickly with an update and will revise my review at that point.
Come on you can do better
BiOsLaSh 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
For a game designed to run on hardware that is decades older than the iPhone this port is a little crappy. I gave it two stars because I've been waiting a long time for this but it is really slow in parts. I would hope for an update quick because this borders on not playable.
Not ready
moveingfaster 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I've been waiting for this game since the app store opened bought it last night and now wished I waited. The game is way to hard to control. I hope they have an update soon! Untill then I would wait.
Dissapointed
Kobei beef 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I've been waiting for this game forever to come out in the app store. What's disappointing is the controlling of sonic and the fact that he doesn't have spin dash. Please sega I beg of u for an upgrade sooooonnn.
Yay! Sonic for iPhone!
Aeonflux1329 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
It's about time, Sega! Just like the original, maybe too much. There is no use of the accelerometer, it would be great to have that as an option to replace the d-pad. I agree with others, the slowdown is annoying. Other than that, it's awesome and would love to see Sonic 2 and Sonic 3!!
A welcome addition, but not quite the original...
DJ Keens 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is an exact port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis complete with stylized pad and buttons reflective of the old 16 Bit console (and even the logo and the small screen mode). This game has all the look and sound of the original but the downfall is in it's execution. There's alot of slowdown in the game and unforgivably so as I would think iPhone could outpower the old Sega Genesis. When full fledged 3D games are released on the Apple handheld, I expect a simple 2D platformer to run much better. An update is absolutely necessary in order to make Sonic run as smooth as he did back in 1991.
Fun
iH8 4life 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is one of my favorite apps on my iPod(2nd generation). But there is one problem.Whenever I die I can't continue I just go back to the first level!I wish I could continue from the Act I died in.Please if you can make it so that you can continue from where you died.
Excellent game, decent controls, horrible framerate.
Technik 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I was excited to see Sonic in the app store this morning and downloaded it immediately. What a mistake. This game suffers from constant framerate drops and almost always-present slowdown. At first, I thought my iPhone might just need to be rebooted, so I did, and the problems persisted. After speaking with a friend of mine, he told me that he had also just downloaded it to his iPod Touch (2nd Generation) and had the exact same problems. After paying $5.99 for what is essentially an unplayable game, I'm a little ticked off, but hopefully they'll release an update soon that corrects the problem, after which I will revise my review.
Great, but not perfect
Indigo Rush 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I am amazed at the sound and graphic quality of this game. My only criticism lies in the general emulation of the framerate: it's better than other mobile versions, but not quite there yet. Also, the jump button is unresponsive at times when I'm moving fast: which is when I need it most! An update would be in order eventually. It's better than the Puyo Pop/Columns app, but not as good as Super Monkey Ball (in terms of emulation quality) Other than these little details, SEGA has done a good job porting the speedster over on the iPhone/iTouch. Keep up the good work!!
Awesome
imunderpressure 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Looking forward to 2 & 3
Love it! Great port.

Have this on the Wii and now on my iPhone... Can't wait to finish this and does Sonic 1 icon mean that there's going to be Sonic 2?

Sonic was one of my favorite games growing up. Sega did a great job on this version! Controls work really well. Much better than Super Monkey Ball!
Pretty darn good !

1st off - those complaining about it not being able to handle 30fps or whatever, seem to have forgotten they are playing on a cell phone, not a Sega console or handheld game player. That being said, this is the exact replica of the original Sonic game & after about 2 hours test driving this game, it's certainly fun & high quality - especially for those who've played the original. Sega's super monkey ball was hard to play whereas this is easy, and the quality of graphics and both stellar. It's not 100% perfect, hence my 4/5 star rating, but to me it's good enough and at $6, rather than the $9-$15 price points we see, it gets my vote for one of the best games on the iPhone "out of the box" (i.e. before updates) Oh - another plus - you can listen to your own music! (won't stop your iPod)
It's ok

I agree with most other reviewers that this is just an ok port of sonic. The thing that I feel needs to be adressed the most are the controls. First there needs to be accelerometer control options this would really improve gameplay. Second where is the spin dash? Update with these and other reviewers suggestions and this game would be 5 stars.
Reasonable port
Chaos215bar2 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Aside from some framerate issues, this is a reasonable port. However, what I'd really like to see is a port of the entire series. Seeing as how this port is apparently just an emulator on top of a Sonic 1 ROM, this shouldn't be too difficult.
Shoddy port
Archit 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Sound emulation is poor, and the game isn't able to even keep a steady 30fps, let alone the 60fps of the original. On top of that the lack of tactile feedback makes it hard to use the d-pad. There are definitely better options for portable Sonic.
Almost Unplayable

I was excited to see this in the App Store, so I downloaded it immediatly. However, I couldn't be more disappointed once I loaded the game up for the first time only to discover the horrible slowdown that mars this otherwise beautiful port. Please fix it Sega. C'mon, how do you expect us to play a game like Sonic with this terrible of a framerate?!
Fun but controls aren't there.

Touch controls are not ideal for a fast game like this. Jumping in tight spaces can be hard. Plus if you die you start from begining with no level select. Too much money for experience
Meh
Hunterxhunter 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Slowdowns make this game hard to play. Plus the controlls don't work that well. I took me jumping back and forth to jump on a box. Very difficult. Save your $6 and just use it to buy a gba and the gba port.
classic game, bad port
robpe36 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
this is a very playable version of sonic and once I got used to the controls, it was great. there are however terrible technical problems with this game like music slowdown and ocassionally gameplay slowdown. it's somewhat surprising and also unacceptable that this game was released like this considering there are much more graphic intensive games on the iphone that run without a hitch. strikes me as quite lazy. hopefully sega will release an update fixing those problems if enough of us leave bad reviews.
Great game!

I grew up playing Sonic games, and so as soon as I saw it, I bought it. I would love to see Sonic 2 on here soon!
Great port!
gotzaiPhone 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Just like the wii port, good fun! And to the guy asking for a second button for the super spin... That wasn't till sonic 2. The first sonic never had that ability. Update: I hate to do this, but I have to drop some stars after lots of game play time. This game almost comes to the point of freezing when there is too much going on in one screen, i.e. Sonic and a bad guy or two are in the same frame, everything horrably slows down. Please fix this issue.
Win

This is Sonic. On the iPhone. It's automatically win. There is massive slowdown and the SEEEGA intro needs work but that can easily be fixed anyday now if enough people leave reviews about it.
Good but..

Great version of sonic, but you should be able to keep playing after a game over
PLEASE stop complaining about no Spin Dash, because IT WASN'T IN THE ORIGINAL GAME EITHER!!!
badtothetrombone 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
OK guys, about half the reviews I have read complain about the fact that there is no Spin Dash (the thing where you press down and "B" to charge up a spinning roll), but here is the thing... THERE WAS NO SPIN DASH IN THE ORIGINAL GAME EITHER!!! The Spin Dash was not introduced until "Sonic the Hedgehog 2"!!! If Sega added Spin Dash to this game... then this game wouldn't be "Sonic the Hedgehog". It would be like a re-mix of the original game; definitely NOT the original. So instead of complaining about a feature that will NEVER happen... just beg Sega to put up "Sonic the Hedgehog 2" which DOES have the Spin Dash.
Great port of a great classic
mpilch 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I have not seen any of the problems other have with the gaming being sluggish. This port actually performs better than the original game did on the Saga Master system. Those looking for the spin attack are remembering Sonic 2 not this original version of Sonic. As mentioned it was originally released on the Sega Master System and was almost too much for that hardware. When it was rereleased for the Genius it was much better and played just as smooth as it does on the iTouch 2G.
Fantastic!

I hope to see other SEGA games, or even a new Sonic game.
