Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
SEGA Slashes Prices On The App Store, Too
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Feb 2011 17:48:57 UTC +00:00
OK. So, SEGA is following suit with the other big publishers on the App Store and is now holding its own personal deal-a-thon. Now, until whenever, you can grab around 16 different SEGA games for 80 percent off the usual price or just 99 cents. And we’re not just talking about the pub’s stable of lackluster Genesis ports getting the cut here; those games are part of the deal, for sure, but there’s also a few native gems mixed in. There are too many games to do a meaningful breakdown with, but here’s a list of what’s being offered and the prices of each: Not bad, eh? At this point, I’m not sure if we should say that the entire App Store is up for grabs, but it’s getting close as all these publishers start racing to the bottom. Who knew that Valentine’s Day would be giving us so much this Read More
Another day, another classic game has been ported to the iPhone. This time it’s Space Harrier II, the famous jet-pack shooter from the glory days of the SEGA Mega Drive, that’s hitting the Apple AppStore… as expected. You probably already know what’s Space Harrier II all about. Basically, you’re guiding a flying man whose mission is to destroy pretty much everything that moves on the screen. It may sound dull, but it’s very addictive, especially for those of you who played the original Mega Drive title “back in the days.” And if you require some additional information about the game, there’s a dedicated page on Wikipedia doing all the explaining, so I don’t have to. You can either use the on-screen D-pad and button, or rely on the built-in accelerometer for controlling the jet-packer… I’ll stop here. The AppStore link has more details along with few more screenshots. Enjoy! Space Harrier Read More
Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Friday, July 23, 2010 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to this week’s Small Apps + Updates roundup, which takes quick looks at recent budget app releases and noteworthy tweaks to past apps. This edition focuses largely on a collection of small but interesting recent games, as well as showing off Apple’s iPhone 4 Case Program application—the rare app that enables users to get something for free just by running it. Though all of the apps in here are worth seeing, Plunderland and the updated version of N.O.V.A. are the two real standouts. Read on for the details. iPhone 4 Case Program (Free) was released today by Apple as a tool to help iPhone 4 customers order the free Apple or third-party cases promised at last week’s Antennagate event in Cupertino. Unlike the vast majority of apps in the store, iPhone 4 Case Read More

This Week’s App Store Updates – 23rd July 2010
Calendar16 Fri, 23 Jul 2010 11:22:23 UTC +00:00
Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are fourteen new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are: The classic Sega Mega Drive game comes to the iPhone, with both US and Japanese editions of the dolphin-sim included.  The graphics looks suitably original, but the control system seems to need some work.  $2.99/£1.79. Welcome to the Fantasy Zone, get ready!  Another Sega arcade game out this week, this appears to be the Genesis conversion many expected to be a part of the Sega Genesis emulator app.  It certainly looks authentic and has all 13 stages along with two bonus rounds too.  $0.99/£0.59. The iPhone app of the popular how-to website, with a neat collaboration twist.  Free. Authentic Brazilian music, an exotic setting and promises of uncovering the secrets of the Brazilian approach to life and fitness, cannot cover up the fact this has ladies in bikini’s leaping Read More
Sega has released a number of classic Genesis games on the App Store- Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99], Streets of Rage [$2.99], and as of last night, Ecco the Dolphin [$2.99] and Space Harrier II [99¢]. In the past we've been increasingly critical of Sega releasing these emulated games, as while the games wrapped in the emulator are undoubtedly classics, the emulator itself leaves much to be desired. Revisiting these games with my iPhone 4 has revealed that Apple has finally released hardware that is fast enough to properly run Sega's emulator (although I have had weird crashing issues with Sonic 2). If you've got an iPhone 4, the games run substantially better than the 3GS/3rd generation iPod touch, leaving the touch controls as the only issue. If you're stuck in the world of the iPhone 3G or 2nd Generation iPod touch, you're still Read More

Playable and a decent emulation. But this game was supposed to come free with sega's iphone genesis app. Still, 99 cents isn't bad. Sega. Bring us Shining Force and the Phantasy Star series (especially 4). Those would work great in the iphone.
