'Groove Coaster' On Sale, New Tracks Available
Calendar16 Tue, 20 Dec 2011 16:28:10 UTC +00:00
We would argue that if there was just one more thing Taito's Groove Coaster [$.99] needed, it would be way more dubstep. Now, the game's latest update unfortunately doesn't include any dubstep, but we'll take it anyway because it includes a total of five more downloadable tracks, including a trance mix of Jingle Bells that we're sure you'll never forget. A new ska track, as well as an acid house joint -- "Thrase Beat -- are the other notables joining the downloadable roster. Oh! And in the spirit of the holidays, Groove Coaster, Space Invaders Infinity Gene [$2.99], and Cooking Momma [$3.99], have gone on sale for a "limited time" -- or until the iTunes freeze clears we're presuming.   #4   Today, 12:23 PM Developer iPhone 4S, iOS 5.x Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Oregon Posts: 206 Quote: Originally Posted by May i ask if a Lite Version is planned too? Daily iPhone App: Groove Coaster
Calendar16 Mon, 08 Aug 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
Groove Coaster is a new rhythm game from the creator of the popular iOS title Space Invaders Infinity Gene, and it too is earning lots of accolades as a beautiful and addictive title. It starts out simply enough: just tap on the screen in time with the music as your little character follows a line through 3D space. But while early levels are slow and relatively easy, later levels get more jagged, with quick turns and quicker hits required. Near the end of the game, there are other gestures to play with, and all of the levels have you ranked with various grades. Game Center and Facebook integration lets you compete and share scores with friends, so that will lend a nice chunk of replay value as well. Groove Coaster is a great title, available for $2.99 on the App Store right now. Read More

'Groove Coaster' Review – Get Your Psychedelic Groove On
Calendar16 Thu, 28 Jul 2011 03:33:10 UTC +00:00
Taito’s Groove Coaster [99¢] is an experiential music and rhythm game that mixes fun, upbeat, and jazzy tracks with a psychedelic and retro-informed visual aesthetic. At its truly mechanical core, it’s just a tap game that has you drum on your iPad whenever a bubble crops up on a neon rail, sorta like a one-note Rock Band. While that’s not necessarily entertaining in the year 2011, Groove Coaster’s constituent parts manage to overpower its simplicity, making for a game that’s a pleasure to pick up and thrum alongside, lack of depth and flaws be darned. It’s easy to be wooed by Groove Coaster’s striking vector graphics presentation in the same way that it was hard to look beyond another Taito title’s visuals in Space Invaders: Infinity Gene [$4.99]. But even without the trains of retro baggage behind Groove Coaster, it manages to feel aged, yet refined and re-imagined in the same Read More
I'll just get the bad news out of the way first: No Final Fantasy Tactics this week, it seems. The good news, though, is that unless there's some substantial SNAFU with Squeenix and the Apple approval process, we should be playing FFT next week. (Assuming of course they don't hold the release date for marketing reasons, which would be evil for how highly anticipated this game is.) Oh! And there's even more good news! There's a ton of great releases out this week that will keep you busy until you're waist-deep in turn-based bliss next week. If you're new around here, here's how these Wednesday release posts work: Developers are able to set specific release dates for their games on the App Store. Since the App Store is a global marketplace (which recently includes 33 new countries) and due to the modern-day wizardry that is time zones, these release dates happen Read More
Space Invaders Infinity Gene Designer Announces Next Game
Calendar16 Fri, 15 Jul 2011 18:03:59 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/15/2011 at 10:03am | by Andrew Groen The creator of the much beloved, and highly successful iOS game Space Invaders Infinity Gene has announced that he is hard at work on a new project. Though he's not exactly being forthcoming with the details. In short, the game's creator Reisuke Ishida, has released absolutely zero details about the upcoming game other than this lone piece of artwork. It features the iconic Atari Space Invaders alien spaceship wearing oversized headphones with the words "Groove Coaster" spelled out in dots underneath it.  The natural assumption is that this will be some kind of a rhythm game though that's a nearly baseless assumption.  Space Invaders Infinity Gene was one of the earliest classic iOS games. Rather than rehashing an old formula to make a quick buck, Infinity Gene reinvented itself to understand the iPhone platform with easy to understand touch screen controls and gameplay. We'll Read More
Earlier today, Taito tweeted out a link that led to a teaser site for a game called Groove Coaster. On the site, we learned that Groove Coaster is "an exhilarating next-gen groove game" being developed by Reisuke Ishida, the creator of Space Invaders Infinity Gene [$4.99/Lite]. Unfortunately that, along with the below image, is all there is to know about the game at this time. In case you're unfamiliar, Space Invaders Infinity Gene is the retro-rebirth of the legendary arcade game Space Invaders. It was released way back in July of 2009 and basically blew everybody away with its incredibly stylish visuals, fantastic music, and manic gameplay. The game is utterly phenomenal, and if you asked anyone what they would consider the top iPhone games of all time you would hear Space Invaders Infinity Gene's name frequently. As for Groove Coaster, all we can really do is speculate at this point, Read More

TAITO Winter iPhone Sale
Calendar16 Tue, 21 Dec 2010 17:30:14 UTC +00:00
When I think of TAITO, I still think of playing Sky Shark on my old PC running DOS in the mid 80′s. It’s pretty amazing that the company that guided my airplane obsession as a youth is now pumping out great iPhone games in the 21st century. Ok, enough of my childhood memories, on to the game sale! SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE – Now $2.99 SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE was on many app of the year shortlists last year, and is still a mainstay on my iPhone a year and a half later. Its insane mix of old school Space Invaders and new aged freneticism will make you think you are on the iOS equivalent of an Easy Rider drug sequence (and I think that is a good thing). This winter sale is the first time that TAITO has dropped the price of SPACE INVADERS INFINITY GENE in the App Store. Read More

Earlier this morning, developer Taito briefly announced on their Twitter the existence of a game called Bubble Bobble Double for iPhone and iPod touch devices. The initial tweet had nothing more than the shot of the title screen that you can see to the right, but just about an hour ago they uploaded a video of early in-game footage of Bubble Bobble Double. Taito had originally announced the existence of a Bubble Bobble game for iOS devices back at E3 in June, and this is what our own Eli Hodapp had to say about the possibility of such an immense classic coming to the iPhone: The next retro classic Taito is bringing to the App Store is Bubble Bobble, and I doubt I'm alone in hoping this game gets the same amazing treatment as Space Invaders did in Space Invaders Infinity Gene [$4.99]. Today all they were able to show is a basic demo Read More
I don’t know about you, but I’m always blown away whenever a game I used to play as a kid in the local arcade is accurately recreated on a mobile device. The latest to do that is Taito’s Space Invaders for the iPad. Now, don’t get this version of Space Invaders confused with Space Invaders Infinity, which is a more updated and modern version of Space Invaders. Space Invaders HD is more like the traditional Space Invaders that we’ve all grown up playing and was already released on the App Store as an iPhone game a couple of months ago. So what does the iPad version of the game offer that isn’t already available in its iPhone counterpart? Well, for one obvious thing, the game takes full advantage of the iPad’s screen. You can play a 1 player game, which takes up the entire iPad screen with the game taking the Read More

Space Invaders Infinity GeneDownloadable Content Company: Taito Price: $5 Compatible: iPod touch, iPhone/3G/3GS Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Wednesday, July 14, 2010 Category: Games - iPad, iPhone + iPod There are many things to love about Taito's new Space Invaders Infinity Gene ($5) for the iPhone and iPod touch, and only one thing to dislike -- it isn't Space Invaders Extreme, the last game Taito succeeded in using to rejuvenate its classic but previously tired series of overhead shooters. Like Extreme, Space Invaders Infinity Gene relies on a formula of retro-styled graphics, techno music, and intense gameplay to radically improve on the company's original formula, in the process creating an almost entirely worthwhile title for the asking price. Updated: Our original review of Space Invaders Infinity Gene on July 28, 2009 covered version 1.0 of the game. Significant improvements made since then have led us to update this review with a new section, Read More

This afternoon I met with the guys from Taito outside of the west hall of E3. Unsurprisingly, they have quite a bit on their plate right now both between updating their existing games, releasing new ones, and promoting an odd array of Space Invader themed utilities. Originally I was rather confused, both wondering why Taito would release these utilities and who would download them... Then I realized exactly who would download them-- The army of people with severe Space Invader fetishes like our own Blake Patterson. These utilities all have been done before, but never with a Space Invaders theme. They're all free, and the calculator is actually pretty cool with various easter eggs if whatever you're calculating results in certain special numbers such as 1978, 41, and 10 others. They all include various advertisements for Taito games, and there is a 99¢ version of the calculator that strips these ads. Read More
Lite Version of 'Space Invaders Infinity Gene'
Calendar16 Tue, 19 Jan 2010 16:53:57 UTC +00:00
Taito has unleashed a free Lite version of their amazing Space Invaders Infinity Gene game which we reviewed back in July. We described the game as an amazing effort by Taito to bring a fresh and modern version of Space Invaders to the iPhone. The loads of unlockables, varied gameplay and music-generated levels made it a strong recommendation and gave it a spot in our Best iPhone Games of 2009. The iPhone version of the game is an expanded version of the Japanese mobile version and walks you down an evolutionary path of shooters starting with a brief glimpse of the original Space Invaders. Each stage adds new capabilities and weapons to your ship and can even unlock additional menu items and options for the game itself. The Lite version is rather short and does not include the cool ability to create levels based on your music, but gives you a Read More
The 53 Best iPhone Games [IPhone Apps]
Calendar16 Thu, 14 Jan 2010 00:40:00 UTC +00:00
Scouring the App Store for the best games is a full time job. Luckily, it's a job held by the guys over at Touch Arcade. Here are their picks for the best games—and only games—available on the iPhone. While the App Store had clearly been a huge success in 2008, the continued growth and explosion of iPhone game releases in 2009 was beyond everyone's expectations. The number of apps in the App Store soared past 100,000 with hundreds of new games being released every day. We sat down trying to figure out the best iPhone games of 2009 and found the task of narrowing down the list to a select few to be near impossible. Instead, we've organized our year in review into categories with what we feel is an excellent cross section of games from 2009. Published: December 31, 2009 Comment         Welcome to the TouchGen Awards, where we honour the best games that the AppStore offered up to us in 2009. Around this time it’s common for game sites such as ours, to look back through the past year and highlight the best of the best games we’ve played. We have narrowed them down to the following categories and highlighted five of the best in each, and from that picked a winner and runner-up… So without further ado, here are our picks of 2009. If you wish to checkout the game on iTunes, simply click on it’s icon Galaxy on fire Terminator Salvation Gangstar DOOM Resurrection NOVA A close contest here between the godfathers of first person action ‘id’ with DOOM Resurrection, FISHLABS and their epic space battles of Galaxy on fire, and Gameloft with a tri-offering of sandbox running and gunning with Gangstar, solid Read More
I personally like to call 2009 the year of the ports for the AppStore. There are so many games being ported to iPhone it’s incredible. So here’s a look at some of our favorites this year. Remember we can’t possibly post about ALL of them. #1 – Earthworm Jim – Review – iTunes Link – Lite Version Honestly probably the best port I’ve played so far on my iPod, and personal favorite. As a platformer fan I was delighted to hear Gameloft was bringing Earthworm Jim to iPhone with updated graphics. It wins my vote for  best port because that’s just what it is, a great port. The controls fit right in with the iPhone, keeping it challenging yet controlable. And it’s the real deal, not scaled down or anything. It’s one of the best platformers I’ve played on iPhone. #2 – James Cameron’s Avatar - Review – iTunes Link Finally, Read More
By Jeff Scott on December 29th, 2009 Looks like Taito sent us all a Christmas present. Unfortunately it was stuck in transit and didn't arrive until last night. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is easily one of my favorite games of the year. It’s an amazingly wonderful re-imagining of the Space Invaders world, one of the oldest video games around. Space Invaders was originally released in 1978 and I can’t count the number of quarters I dumped into the machine down at the neighborhood pizza shop. So while my love for SIIG might be a little tainted with nostalgia, it still stands as a fantastic game. The method of play in this game is basically the same as the original. You are shooting at advancing aliens — the twist here is that the game evolves from the original Space Invaders to a progressively different and more interesting game as you score more Read More

Taito to Bring 'All New' Arkanoid to iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 01 Sep 2009 03:35:56 UTC +00:00
Taito's Space Invaders Infinity Gene [$4.99] has to be one of the most well received games here on TouchArcade. We loved it, and our readers loved it, and it really demonstrated how a classic could be properly revived on the iPhone platform. Next on Taito's list is Arkanoid -- the 1986 brick breaker that modernized Breakout and has been endlessly imitated. Arkanoid introduced special bricks, enemy ships, power ups and more to the classic brick breaking formula. According to Taito "a new legend is about to be born" and that they are bringing Arkanoid back and it will be "all new". We've confirmed with Taito that this version will be coming to the iPhone. Little else is known so far, though details and a video are going to be released shortly. Calendar16 Sun, 23 Aug 2009 19:20:41 UTC +00:00
All right, Space Invaders. Been here, done that. Just shoot the UFOs before they shoot you and – WHOA! What is this? This is not the Space Invaders I remember. This is something much better. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is a remake of the classic game we all know and love. This game has been amped up to a fast-paced, thrilling new experience. When you first start playing the game, you’ll be introduced to the “evolutionary tree.” This is the area where you will be selecting your levels. Other branches will be created when you reach the next level or if you unlock an extra level. Clicking the start button throws you into what seems to be the traditional Space Invaders game. This only lasts for a few seconds, though, and then the fun begins. You start moving forward at high speeds while destroying hundreds of attacking starships. Enemies usually only Read More

So we jumped the gun a little on our last story, but to be fair we weren't the only ones who thought the teaser images that showed up on the Taito Facebook page were for Bubble Bobble. So here are the two images again, the first one shows Bub and an Apple "together at last": The second image posted to the Facebook page was a much more revealing screenshot of several of the Bust-a-Move sprites: Bust-a-Move, also known as Puzzle Bobble outside of North America and some European countries, is an arcade puzzle game originally released in 1994. An amazing evolutionary retro shooter
AlbieOne 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Evolution…that one word describes Space Invaders: Infinity Gene (SIIG) a retro shooter that not only builds upon Space Invaders, but takes elements from today’s shooters to create new kind of gameplay that others will attempt to emulate. Combining the techno beat soundtrack, inspired environments, and free movement, this has it all and for the most part successfully delivers a full-scale experience I don’t think many expected. The gameplay can be best summed up this way: a lot is going on yet you don’t know what’s going on.
I can't stop smiling.
CDubber 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Remember the days when video games were low tech and completely enthralling and you just couldn't shove your quarters in the machine fast enough? I do. This game takes me back to those glorious times. This is old school retro excitement at a blistering pace, driven by a modern, heart-thumping techno soundtrack. At your fingertips, in your pocket, whenever you want it. That, my friends, is what gaming is all about. And if you love gaming, you'd be doing yourself a serious disservice by not buying this game.
You need to get this game if you call yourself a gamer
jonathan. 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Infinity Gene is an amazing an fresh take on space invaders. It's a beautiful game with an amazing style and soundtrack. You can even have levels generated from your own songs so the possibilites are endless. The game evolves as you go. You are able to move in any direction, get new abilities, etc as the game goes. This is one of, if not the, best and most unique games on the iPhone and every game should pick it up. Don't wait for a price drop. It's worth more than the asking price and we need to support real hardcore games, especially when thy are as amazing as this. Seriously, it's awesome. Get this. Now.
All legacy publishers, take note. THIS is how you do it.
Fedakynes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
It hasn't been that long now since Taito revived the Space Invaders brand with the Extreme label on the DS and PSP, and the same sensibilites that went into those games are highly present in Infinity Gene. Fresh, continually changing invaders? Check. Music based shoot-em-up gameplay that dynamically changes with the engaging beats? Check. Adding your own music into the mix is just another plus on the already expansive list, and here the game absolutely nails it. After experimenting with artists from The Beatles, to Styx, a bit of Pendulum, and some Chopin for good measure, I can attest that on none of the songs I tried it made a less than stellar level.
Holy crap amazing! Highly recommended!
andypandy11234235 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is awesome. It just gets crazier and crazier! Definitely worth the money. I'm so glad i have this app. It is also really fun to play with your own music. If I had to criticize anything, I'd say it can be difficult to see enemies coming from the bottom of the screen when you have your finger there. Also, the floating "molecule genes" don't really match the color/style of the rest of the things on screen. These are small issues though. Otherwise, holy crap!!! This game is awesome. Alright, I've gotta go play some more.
This game is amazing. Buy it now.

This game is so much fun! It is extremely well produced. You start off with a rather boring black-and-white version of the original Space Invaders, but things quickly get more interesting and so far the fun never stops. Every time I play it, I unlock something new, which gives a sense of accomplishment and keeps me coming back for more. The new levels seem to be unique and change-up the game enough to keep things challenging. The music is good, variable, and fast-paced. It is a great game for a quick pick-up-and-play which makes it ideal for the iPhone.

It's like a koala crapped a rainbow in my brain

Easily the best iphone game I've played to date. Well, sometimes "best iphone game" is a backhanded compliment, but I'd put this up there with any DS, PSP, Xbox Live or PSN release to date. For the non-gamers: it's a fast-paced, easy to control romp that's as addicting as the best puzzle games around. Even has a nice difficulty curve to ease you into harder stages.

It's awesome. Brings back the classic & takes it to another level times a 100.

Awesome game. Only complaint I have is that while using your finger to play the game is fun it gets in the way because I can't see or it won't respond.
Worth your time and energy! Check SIIG out!

TAITO's "Space Invaders Infinity Gene" is an exciting new vision of the 1978 arcade classic. The 2-D scroller has "evolved" into a frenzied, psychedelic shooter that is an absolute blast to play. SIIG's gameplay offers a rich amount of upgrades and unlockable content that will contribute greatly to your gameplay experience and replay value: ship upgrades, bonus galleries, and many hidden levels. Things also never get impossible as the difficulty curve is very balanced even in the most difficult modes and levels. In conclusion, if the $4.99 price isn't a turn off, "Space Invader's Infinity Gene" is a must-buy and will quickly become an app that you'll invest a lot of time in - all the while having so much fun doing so!
Best!!

What can I say positive about this game that has not already been said? It's fun and addictive. The default music it comes with is very driving (if you like techno). My only complaint, and I can't fault the developer is that I lose track of were my finger is and every now and then end up off the sensitive area of the screen. I must give credit to the developer for taking into account that the enemies that attack from behind the ship might be obscured by your finger and so they put in other visiual clues to let you know they are coming. I have seen a few reviews talk about the app being a memory hog. I can't speak for the 3G or Edge iPhone but on the 3Gs, I am experiencing zero memory problems.
Fantastic!

I've bought dozens of iPhone games, and probably played over a hundred free ones. This easily is one of the best. Think Space Invaders meets Rez. Hugely varied weapons and enemies plus a level generator that uses your music library to create level boundaries and enemy placement amount to the highest replayability. The controls are awesome and very simple. Great game
Wow just wow

I have wanted to play Infinity Gene ever since I saw it in Tatio Japan's website for their regular cell phones. Cool art style, Zuntata soundtrack, great new take on that classic Space Invaders gameplay.... What's not to love? Thank you Taito for porting this game to the iPhone, and making it even better along the way! This is the iPhone game to get if you crave excellent shooter action! It's easy to pick up, but gets nice and challenging... Anyone can play it, and will definitely have fun doing so!
