Gameloft starts the Father's Day app sales
Calendar16 Fri, 17 Jun 2011 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
I suspect we'll see quite a few app sales pop up over this upcoming Father's Day weekend, partly because any holiday these days tends to attract a few lowered prices in the App Store, and partly because there will likely be a few lucky dads out there picking up a new iPhone or iPad 2 for their parenting trouble. Gameloft's the first company with a slew of sales on, including Final Fantasy ripoff Eternal Legacy, NFL 2011, Real Soccer 2011, WoW ripoff Order and Chaos Online, and Spider-man: Total Mayhem, all for the low, low price of just US 99 cents. Gameloft also has a Twitter contest going on, but it requires a pretty gnarly retweet, so you'll have to decide if a $10 iTunes card is worth spamming all of your followers. Or do what I do, and keep a separate Twitter account just for silly RT contests like this Read More
Gameloft Throws A Kickin' $.99 Sale For Father's Day
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Jun 2011 19:31:18 UTC +00:00
It’s written in the United States’ constitution that every holiday must be honored with a sale or two on the App Store. No joke -- it’s a new law according to yet another wiki page that I just finished vandalizing. If you're interested, the law is sandwiched between the “freedom of press” thing and that other law about how all American babies should be named after me. Anyway, it’s with great honor that I tell you about Gameloft’s massive $.99 Father’s Day sale, a sale meant to stir your loins and your wallet. I can’t pin down a rhyme or reason for what games are being offered at their discounted rates, but hey, they’re cheap and I think that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Here’s the list. The first link you’ll see is connected to a write-up of ours about the game, while the second will take Read More
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More
Not to be outdone by EA's I ♥ 99¢ Sale, Gameloft wants you to know that they love you too. And what better way is there for them to express this affection towards you than monetarily? From now until February 14th (hint: that's Valentine's Day), Gameloft is offering up 13 select titles for the low price of just 99¢. Take a gander at the discounted titles available: Wait, what's that you say? How silly of Gameloft to put only 13 titles on sale when it would have been oh so perfect to do 14 in honor of February 14th? Well they're way ahead of you, as there actually will be a 14th title available for 99¢. The trick here is that you'll need to go to the Gameloft Facebook page and vote for what title you'd like to see dropped to 99¢. Oh, and iPad owners, don't feel too left out Read More

2010: Gameloft Brings the Console Experience to iOS
Calendar16 Fri, 31 Dec 2010 15:57:23 UTC +00:00
With nearly 200 free and paid titles available for download on the App Store, Gameloft is quite possibly the most prolific iOS game developer around. Their aim for the majority of their titles is bringing console-like experiences to iOS devices. For better or for worse, the formula that they have arrived at to accomplish this task is to ape the ideas of established console franchises and create their own versions of them. Opinions on this tactic are mostly divided into two different camps, those who like it and those who don't. Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. On the one hand, Gameloft provides me the kinds of games that would otherwise not make it onto my preferred mobile gaming platform. But on the other hand it can be hard to swallow just how blatant some of their “inspiration” from other games is, and it's always nicer to see a developer coming Read More
Back when Gameloft's Modern Combat: Sandstorm [$4.99 / Lite / HD] was first released, in our review we called it one of the most impressive gaming experiences we've seen so far on the platform, but it wasn't long before it was inevitably bested by other first person shooters (some even released by Gameloft themselves) on the fast paced market of the App Store. Gameloft ups the ante once again with Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus [$6.99], a game that is by far their most blatant carbon copy yet, but is executed so masterfully that it hardly seems to matter. If you've played Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, you'll know exactly what to expect out of Modern Combat 2. Single player consists of a similar mixture of combat scenarios that follow the typical plot line of hunting terrorists. Objectives are varied and involve some light stealth elements, protecting caravans, escaping from or Read More
Spider-Man Total Mayhem
Calendar16 Thu, 09 Sep 2010 04:20:36 UTC +00:00
Spider-Man is one of the most recognizable characters in the Marvel arsenal. Whether it be the awesome abilities he has or the relatively normal life he lives outside of his powers, no one can deny he has influenced the comic culture immensely. Now, following the success of the movies and new games released on consoles, Gameloft has released and brand new game for the iPhone. This game definitely takes advantage of the retina display as the graphics are great for an adventure game. The game follows the famous Spider-Man as he is thrown into chaos repeatedly. If any of you have ever played a Gameloft adventure game, this one feels very similar. There is a virtual joystick with dedicated action buttons and the occasional event button you’ll need to press when dodging an enemy attack. The game ended up being pretty repetitive after a bit but it did have a large Read More

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been really excited about Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem ever since Gameloft revealed the game back in E3. I don’t know what it is about Spider-Man, but I’ve almost always enjoyed games based on him. It looks like our wait for a Spider-Man game on the iPhone is over as Gameloft has released the game onto the App Store. As expected, players will assume the role of Spider-Man as he battles his way through multiple stages across New York City to take down some of his most powerful enemies who have escaped from their prison. It’s a good thing Spidey is able to fight using his agility, strength, and web powers, or things could get really ugly. You’ll also be able to upgrade Spider-Man’s abilities from power orbs collected during battle, destroying objects, or through your adventure. During your adventure in Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Destruction, you’ll Read More

New in the App Store This Week…
Calendar16 Fri, 03 Sep 2010 08:50:56 UTC +00:00
Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are ten new or updated apps for the iPhone and iPad worth taking a closer look at if you are: The demo of the demo shown at this week’s Apple event, Epic Citadel lets you wander around a virtual town and bask in the glory that is Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.  It’s not for the 3G or early iPod Touches though.  Free. Version 3.1 finally brings the official Twitter app to the iPad.  Existing users will only need to upgrade, but if you haven’t tried this already, hit the link above.  The interface is very clever and looks great, bringing tweets and the web together in one application.  Free. Another great looking action game from Gameloft.  Based around the Ultimate Spider-Man universe, there are 12 levels filled with familiar enemies which Spidey must fight off, using up to 20 different combination moves and his Read More
Games based on comic books have been almost as hit or miss as games based on movies in the past, so I think my cautious optimism for Gameloft's recently released Spider-Man: Total Mayhem [$6.99] was well deserved. Sure, there are some absolutely fantastic comic book games such as the quarter-sucking X-Men Arcade Game, and a few others over the years. Unfortunately, many fall in to the same pit that movie games fall in to where they lean far too heavily on whatever intellectual property the game is based on instead of actually having good gameplay. This is true to some extent in Spider-Man: Total Mayhem, but the whole package is comprehensive enough that it doesn't even seem to even matter. Like all Gameloft games, many parts of Spider-Man are clearly borrowed from other titles of theirs, and Total Mayhem is no different. A lot of the combat feels like a mix Read More
