It’s actually getting tougher and tougher to find decent, free applications on the App Store with the flood of LITE and FREE versions of retail applications. I’d really like to see some sort of dividing line so that Lite versions would just go away to their own section to be demos, and the free apps would stick in their own section and just be free and amazing (or not). Those minor hassles aside, the lack of more specific "free" sections in the App Store hasn’t stopped Patrick and myself from picking out a few choice selections. Very disappointed. Really slow to load and really didn't have much good content. Even 24 hour old scores unavailable. It was free so I guess you can't expect much but this app doesn't measure up to other free news apps.

The first time I used the app (and the first couple) it was extremely slow to start up and at loading stories. It also crashed twice. After resetting my iPhone it has yet to crash since and loads pretty quickly. The start up load could be a little faster but it's not bad and stories load quickly now. Since restarting it seems to work fine so if you are having problem reset your iPhone.

Someday this will be an A-list, premium quality app. SI writers are some of the best in the industry. But today is not someday and right now this could be the buggiest app I've ever downloaded. More often than not content won't update, even manually. Sometimes it won't load at all. NFL scores from week one were so slow they could have carved them into granite blocks in less time. It's all inexcusable. Please fix immediately. BTW: If you're looking for swimsuit models, look elsewhere. There is a separate, paid app for that. EDIT: NFL Week 2 scores are almost updating in real time, but the news content is still impossible to manually update. This app desperately needs an update. I not only rebooted my 3G phone but deleted and re-installed the app twice. There was no difference in the performance.

Really quite awful

Slow, frequently unresponsive, prone to freezing up. Feels like an alpha release. Free and worth every penny. Maybe some day they'll release a real app that actually works. I will be deleting it for now, but I can see the potential. Unfortunately for SI, sports news is a commodity and this app is far, far behind the curve.

Usually when you click on a Scores tab it's kind of nice to have scores appear. Well, the MLB scores don't appear. . . and they haven't for weeks--almost since the launch of this sub-par app. That kind of sums up this app, which is sluggish and has a mediocre interface. I'll stick with ESPN Scorecenter.
