Starbucks is going to kick off the holiday season with a special app for iPhone and Android devices that will interact with art on holiday cups at the popular coffee shops around the world. You can see the app in action in the video below. As you can see, it's not really so functional as just a fun way to interact with the company's product. But the app does provide a little bit of interactivity, and apparently you can send holiday ecards directly from the software, as well as possibly win a prize for playing with all of the AR scenes. The app is set to be available on November 15th, a few days before Thanksgiving. This release will end a year of really interesting mobile phone-based initiatives from the company, including that mobile payment app that came out back in January. That app has been used in over 20 million Read More
Starbucks app update perks up coffee customers
Calendar16 Thu, 30 Jun 2011 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
MyStarbucks is no more. Starbucks rolled out version 2 of its official app today, combining the functions of myStarbucks and Starbucks Card Mobile into a single program. The new app has a redesigned interface with the company's new logo. Performance is much faster and having the Starbucks Card capabilities added to the app makes sense since it's ridiculously easy to pay for your coffee with your iPhone and there's really no need to have a separate app for this. Mobile payments also were expanded to Starbucks locations in Safeway. You can now send eGifts, gifting Starbucks credit to a lucky receipent. It'll go straight to the person's email or Facebook and a QR scanner was added. It retains the other features from the older app such as customizing and viewing the nutrition stats for your drinks, Starbucks Rewards, a geolocation feature, view available job openings and more Starbucks is a free Read More

Paying with your iPhone at Starbucks: hands-on
Calendar16 Tue, 25 Jan 2011 18:00:00 UTC +00:00
Last week, Starbucks updated its Starbucks Card app to handle payments through your iPhone and iPod touch at most Starbucks locations throughout the country. It was originally part of a pilot program when the app debuted in 2009, then expanded to Starbucks locations inside Target stores, and now it's nationwide. There is still an exception, and that is Starbucks located inside Barnes & Noble. These locations are owned by Barnes & Noble themselves and will not accept Starbucks cards. Likewise, when checking for places that will accept mobile payments via the Starbucks Card app, Barnes & Noble locations are not listed. I tested out the app on a visit to the Starbucks at Avenue at White Marsh, just outside Baltimore. While using the app is simple, it takes some work to get it ready to go. If you have a Starbucks gift card, launch the app and tap the "add new" Read More
TiPb Picks of the Week
Calendar16 Sun, 23 Jan 2011 21:24:33 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Sunday, Jan 23, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! LockInfo and BiteSMS are the single 2 reasons I can’t live without jailbreaking. Little tweaks and customizations I can do without, LockInfo I couldn’t be without. I was able to take a first look at LockInfo 3.0 before it was released to the public (it’s currently in public beta). This is a huge update to an already great app. The update adds themes, favorites, calendar status bar alerts, and more. If you’re a jailbreaker, make Read More
Starbucks now accepting payments through iPhone app
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 18:00:00 UTC +00:00
The world's largest purveyor of coffee with that just-burnt taste, Starbucks, is now accepting payments at company-owned outlets throughout the United States with their free Starbucks Card Mobile iPhone app. We've covered the green lady's apps before, and it was about eight months ago that the company expanded a small pilot program in Seattle and Silicon Valley to all of their caffeine-dispensing outlets in US Target stores. Now you can pay for your Venti Double-Shot Caramel Macchiato by simply waving your iPhone -- loaded with the Starbucks app -- at that emo teenage barista who is trying very hard to look intellectual and off-put. The payment system doesn't use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to send your bank account numbers to Starbucks headquarters. Instead, the app is linked to your Starbucks Card account, and you use it to display a barcode that is unique to your account. Point that at the scanner in Read More
Starbucks now lets you pay from your iPhone or BlackBerry
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 16:30:00 UTC +00:00
While paying for goods from your phone my be common elsewhere in the world, it's been slow to catch on here in North America. Starbucks, however, may well have gotten the ball rolling, with the release of a pair of apps for iPhone and BlackBerry users. Drop Starbucks Card Mobile onto your smartphone, and you'll be able to load it with funds and pay at more than 7,500 locations in the U.S. Just tap the button to pay, and Starbucks Mobile Card creates a barcode which your server can then scan to debit your account. NFC support may be added later, as hardware adds that functionality and customer demand increases. In case you can't simply look over your shoulder and see at least one Starbucks, the app also has a built-in location finder. Starbucks is confident the apps will be a hit with customers, who currently pay for 1 in 5 Read More
posted by D. St. Charles on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 8:52 am.   Starbucks is pioneering the way towards a cashless society with a new payment system where caffeine cravers can pay for their tall, grande and venti, or new 31 oz trenta coffees directly from their iPhones.  After ordering, the purchaser would have the option to direct their phone’s camera to a barcode and scan the total into their phone.  The amount of the transaction would be automatically deducted from the balance of their previously loaded and linked Starbucks gift card.  The required app is Starbucks Card Mobile and is a free download from the App Store.  The remaining balance can be displayed and the card can be reloaded directly on the phone through PayPal or a major credit card.  It is compatible with the iPod or iPhone running iOS 3.1 or later.  Starbucks outlets which currently support the system include any US Target Read More

Posted 01/19/2011 at 6:53am | by J.R. Bookwalter iPhone plus Starbucks equals addiction heaven -- and now that pairing will truly dominate, as the coffee giant has announced its Starbucks Mobile iOS app can finally be used at stores nationwide. iLounge is reporting that Starbucks has officially launched their mobile payment service across all U.S. company-operated stores on Tuesday, “allowing users of its Starbucks Card Mobile app to pay for their coffee and other Starbucks products directly from their iOS device.” The announcement may not be such fresh news to frequent Starbucks customers throughout California, Seattle and New York City, where a pilot test program has been ongoing with the Starbucks Card Mobile app for more than a year. Now the company has expanded the program to all U.S. stores, which means we’ll likely see a lot more iPhone users grabbing their caffeine fix from coast to coast now. The Starbucks Read More
‘Starbucks’-Zahlungen über iPhone-App
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 05:50:21 UTC +00:00
Read More

Starbucks expands pay-by-iPhone pilot
Calendar16 Tue, 20 Apr 2010 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
About six months ago, we wrote about two free Starbucks apps for the iPhone and iPod touch. myStarbucks got you to the nearest caffeinated outlet and let you build your coffee, and The Starbucks Card Mobile app replaced your physical card, allowing you to have a bar code scanned and pay for your purchases. When the card ran dry, it could be refilled with caffeine-free money. The Starbucks Card Mobile app was tested at 16 Seattle stores in the Silicon Valley. Apparently, paying for coffee with an iPhone was a big success. Starbucks has expanded their test to all 1,002 outlets inside Target stores. The company is taking it one step at a time and currently has no plans to further expand it to the 11,000 Starbucks stores in the US -- yet. You will have to update your app to version 1.2.1 to take advantage of the expanded roll out, Read More

Pay for Starbucks with Your iPhone at 1,000 Target Stores
Calendar16 Wed, 31 Mar 2010 19:30:05 UTC +00:00
by Here’s some good news for Target shoppers. The Starbucks Card Mobile iPhone application [iTunes link] can be now used to pay for Starbucks purchases via barcode scan at more than 1,000 Target locations across the United States. Starbucks has also updated the application with support for Starbucks Cards. Users can now register their cards, check their balances and reload empty cards using a credit card. The news is pretty significant for the coffee retailer and consumers alike. While the Starbucks Card Mobile app looked promising (who doesn’t love the idea of flashing their iPhone to pay for coffee?), in the past it could only be used for mobile payments at 16 retail stores in Seattle and Silicon Valley. By adding the alternative payment option to Starbucks locations inside Target stores and the additional functionality, the company has instantly upped the utility of their application. We can only hope that the payment Read More

As I mentioned in a previous post, Starbucks recently introduced not one, but two iPhone apps. I previously wrote about the store locator and product information app, called Starbucks. Now, I’m taking a look at the second app, called Mobile Card. Starbucks Mobile Card is an app for Starbucks card holders, and allows you to manage the funds on your card. The app lets you check your card’s balance, add additional funds, review your purchase history, and even pay for purchases without using a physical card (at select locations). When you first launch the app, you’re given the choice to sign in with your Starbucks account, or continue without an account. If you’re a Starbucks card holder, it makes sense to create an account online and register your card with your account. Registered cards are entitled to additional savings, such as no charge on syrups and other flavorings, which can save Read More
Starbucks App Lets You Buy Lattes With iPhone
Calendar16 Fri, 25 Sep 2009 07:05:47 UTC +00:00
Starbucks has finally plunged head first into the iPhone revolution by releasing two official iPhone apps for the espresso generation. While their app focuses mainly on mapping closest locations and includes an extended slide show pushing their products, it's the app that's being used to test a mobile payment system at select locations. Just like the napkins, sugar and stir sticks at Starbucks, both of these apps are free. The good news here is that paying for a latte with your iPhone just became a reality, making those plastic Starbucks cards instantly obsolete. Once you've loaded your card info into the app a unique bar code becomes available for scanning right from your iPhone. Simply hold your phone up to a dedicated scanning device near the store's register and it's go time. The bad news is that only 16 select locations in Seattle and the Silicon Valley are part of the Read More
Two official apps devoted to helping you locate and pay for Starbucks coffee have just hit the App Store. The apps will be in competition with several unofficial apps made by third parties that perform similar functions. The first app, called myStarbucks, helps you locate the nearest Starbucks location, as well as search for individual information like hours and available amenities like drive-thru windows. It also includes a full menu and nutrition information for all of their drinks, food, and coffee beans, as well as a “drink builder” that lets you chose each ingredient and check it’s nutrition facts. It’s available in the App Store for free. The second app, called Starbucks Card Mobile, lets you check your Starbucks membership card status from your iPhone. According to a Starbucks spokeswoman, it will also display a scannable bar code that will be valid in 16 regions in Seattle and the Bay Area Read More
Starbucks Goes Mobile: Pay For Coffee With Your iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 23 Sep 2009 21:02:58 UTC +00:00
by Starbucks and the iPhone are sort of the perfect combination. You can browse the web for free on the AT&T hotspots, you can buy in-store songs from iTunes right from your phone, and now you can use two new official iPhone apps. Now available in the App Store, myStarbucks (iTunes Link) and Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes Link) let users find their nearest Starbucks and manage their Starbucks Card. If you live near one of 16 stores in the Seattle or Bay Area, you can even pay for your purchases with the Starbucks Card Mobile app via barcode. Starbucks is a little late to the store-locator game, as a number of unofficial applications — both free and paid — already exist to show store locations or keep track of your Starbucks Card balance, but the official apps offer a lot of functionality, great design, and an unbeatable price — free. Pay for Your Grande Latte at Starbucks With Your iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 23 Sep 2009 19:25:59 UTC +00:00
Coffee lovers with overstuffed wallets rejoice: You can now pay for your Starbucks coffee with your Starbucks Card without actually using a physical card. There’s a catch — you’ll need an iPhone. But if you have one, you can now pay with Starbucks Card Mobile (iTunes link), a new app now available as a free download from the App Store. Before you head out the door with your iPhone in hand to try this out, check a map and make sure you’re currently located in Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, or San Jose in California, or Seattle in Washington. If you’re anywhere else, you’re going to be disappointed, since those are the locations of the stores participating in the pilot test program of the new payment method. In the 16 stores that are accepting payment via iPhone in the cities I just mentioned, it works like this: You add a Starbucks card Read More
Today Starbucks released their official application, however they also released Starbucks Card Mobile. At first I thought the app looked slightly uneventful but then I took a closer look. Starbucks Card Mobile allows you to view the remaining balance on your Starbucks card, reload your Starbucks card, view your recent transaction and… get this… allows you to pay using your Starbucks card right from your iPhone or iPod touch. The “pay from your device” features is still in the testing phases but is available in 16 locations throughout Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and San Jose California and Seattle, Washington. Apparently your iPhone or iPod touch will display a barcode that you use just like your Starbucks Card to make purchases (see screenshots below). Honestly, I’m not sure I want to be handing my iPhone back and forth at the drive through but… a very cool concept none the less. If you Read More
The Microsoft of the coffee biz, Starbucks, announced this morning that they've introduced two new iPhone / iPod touch apps to help customers make the most of their coffee addiction. myStarbucks and the Starbucks Card Mobile App [iTunes links] are free apps available in the iTunes App Store today. These apps were the subject of much speculation, particularly in the Mac Rumors forums, after Phil Schiller showed the myStarbucks app on the screen at the September 9th, 2009 "It's Only Rock and Roll" music event. While the company could have combined the two apps into one monster app, it's apparent that they're for two very different purposes. myStarbucks is primarily targeted at finding stores (as if there isn't one on every street corner in America...) and educating consumers about the drinks and food items available in those stores. The Starbucks Card Mobile App, on the other hand, is pointed towards the Read More

Starbucks, an international chain of coffee shops that usually have highly attractive young women serving coffee that can no longer be called coffee since so many additional mystical, magical, and foreign substances have been added to it, has released two iPhone applications. The first is called “myStarbucks” [iTunes link] and it can be used to find your local Starbucks, create drinks that have more names than a four time married Mexican priest, and also has the ability put a look of terror on your face by displaying nutritional information of your daily poison of choice. That’s the boring one. The second app is called “Starbucks Card Mobile” [iTunes link] and allows you to pay for your distilled capitalistic brew with your iPhone, along with viewing your transaction history and allowing you to top up your Starbucks card with your credit card. It isn’t a very complicated concept: you simply enter your Read More
Starbucks just launched two iPhone apps. One app, myStarbucks, allows users to find stores, build drinks, and browse the coffee chain's menu and find nutritional information. While this is interesting, the second app is far more exciting. Starbucks Card Mobile gives users a virtual Starbucks Card and in 16 select stores in Silicon Valley and Seattle, users will be able to use this app to pay for their drinks. The app will display a barcode that the baristas at these stores will be able to scan. In addition, the mobile payment app will also allow users to check their card's balance, reload it with any major credit card, and view their transaction history. For now, this feature will only be available in these two test markets, which, according to Starbucks, were chosen because of the high usage rates of iPhones and Starbucks' loyalty cards. After this trial, Starbucks will decide whether Read More

New apps sometimes have bugs -- but it shouldn't happen to a corporation like Starbucks. Like other users, I get an error message when trying to log on. To make matters worse, there is no support available on the Starbucks website, even when you click on the support link from the Itunes page. That's not right. Finally, one app not two, please.
So much promise

Insta-magic! 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My dream of consolidating all my SBUX cards is becoming reality. As a frequent recipient of Starbucks gift cards for just about every holiday, birthday or employee appreciation event, I just can't keep track of each individual card. The Starbucks website is useful for consolidating cards, but the iPhone app is infinitely more useful for managing my SBUX purchase cards and simplifying my purchase transaction (one less object to bring or take out on the way to the coffee shop). Two gripes: 1) The roll-out needs to occur faster. My issue has changed from "which card" to "which Starbucks?" 2) Can we use this tool or a similar one to manage other popular gift cards (like Target, Coffee Bean, iTunes or American Express)
Another unexpected error!

Nothing but unexpected errors when I try to login to my account. Works fine online. Am I waisting my time?
An Awesome App!
