'Star Wars' Games Sticking Around After All… For Now
Calendar16 Thu, 31 Mar 2011 01:30:21 UTC +00:00
Earlier today we posted the news that due to a license agreement expiring between THQ Wireless and Star Wars IP owners LucasArts, the iOS title Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner [$2.99] would no longer be available in the App Store after the end of this month. This also led to strong speculation that all THQ published Star Wars games would need to be removed as well. We got this information from Kotaku, who since posting their original story had sent word out to all parties involved for further clarification. Earlier today they received confirmation from THQ that indeed all Star Wars games would be getting pulled, then just a few short hours later they were told the exact opposite. In a response email sent to Kotaku, a THQ Wireless spokesperson stated “All Star Wars apps will be available until further notice”. Personally, that response doesn’t strike a ton of confidence in Read More
Ohne Star-Wars-Lizenz im Gleitflug aus dem App Store
Calendar16 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 16:57:47 UTC +00:00
Star Wars Arcade Being Pulled From App Store Tomorrow
Calendar16 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 17:33:24 UTC +00:00
Posted 03/30/2011 at 9:33am | by Andrew Groen [Update] It's clearly been a bit of a crazy day over at THQ and LucasArts. When we posted earlier today, both companies had confirmed that the Star Wars Arcade game would be pulled from the App Store by the end of the day tomorrow. The fate of the entire Star Wars games franchise in the App Store was uncertain. Then, they deemed that all Star Wars games would need to be pulled from the App Store. But not long after that, THQ and LucasArts did a complete 180 and decided that no Star Wars games at all would be pulled from the store. Um...what? The games creative director, Josh Shabtai, who was quoted in the original story below lamenting the death of his game, was again quoted by Kotaku saying the game had received a "temporary reprieve." The article says he speculates that Read More
Kotaku is reporting that after the end of March, the augmented reality shooter Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner [$2.99] will be pulled from the App Store. We took a look at this title when it was announced in early November, with its release coming just a couple of weeks later. The game allows you to point the camera of your iOS device towards anything to serve as the backdrop for an intense shootout with Imperial ships as you man the gunner turret on the Millennium Falcon. The game is published by THQ Wireless, but was developed by a small studio called Vertigore. Josh Shabtai, Falcon Gunner’s creative director and head of Vertigore, recently wrote in a blog post that due to THQ’s deal with the owners of everything Star Wars Lucasfilm coming to an end, THQ will not be able to allow Star Wars: Falcon Gunner to be sold in the Read More

Review: Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner
Calendar16 Sat, 04 Dec 2010 16:58:12 UTC +00:00
When I got my 3G almost two and a half years ago, I would have never have imagined I would be regularly using an iPhone as a mobile gaming device. I know that games were pretty much the first thing to take off in the infancy of the App Store, but those early versions proved to be nothing but brief diversions for me. Most of them, at least the ones I tried, had little depth and wonky controls. I understood that it would take developers time to get a feel for what would work on the iPhone, and what wouldn’t, but I quickly lost my patience. I was traveling a lot at that time, just as I am currently, and I wanted something to keep me from twiddling my thumbs sitting around in hotel rooms every night. You know what they say about idle hands, right? My son had gotten a Read More

3D-Zeichnen in ‘Augmented Reality’
Calendar16 Wed, 24 Nov 2010 05:40:49 UTC +00:00
Read More

Star Wars and video games go hand-in-hand. There is a long line of Star Wars-themed games going back to the days of arcade games, and continuing through home console and mobile games. Now, the first augmented reality Star Wars game for the iPhone just hit the app store. It is called Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner ($4.99, iTunes link). The game starts with the scene from the original Star Wars inside the Millennium Falcon after they escape the Death Star and the TIE Fighters attack. You are Luke Skywalker in the gunner’s turret below, and you turn the iPhone to rotate around and shoot the attacking TIE Fighters while Han Solo and Princess Leah either encourage or heckle you depending on your skills. (“Let me guess, you are trying not to hit anyone.”) In the 360-degree background is the Death Star and an earth-like planet, which come into view depending on Read More
