Reviews

Not very accurate
Mrgolf 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Here is my test results: a version 1 iPhone in each pocket. Same settings on Steps yields about 20% difference in steps taken. And the distance traveled is off at least as much. Only the timer values agree. My wife has a $3 pedometer that works BTW.
Not very useful compared to a standard pedometer.
neo][geo 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have a $5 pedometer I clip to my belt, that counts my steps all day. It lets me see how close I get to my daily goal of 10,000 steps. I also wear my iPhone on my belt next to it. I hoped to consolidate, but that was a failure. The only time it counts is when I turn it on, suspending sleep mode, running my battery down.
Ups and downs
Son of pergatory 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Okay, yes, I also took this for several test drives and found problems.
needs some work
xyzzy2 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is disappointing as a pedometer... holding it in my hand it detected maybe one out of 3 or 4 steps, and jogging with the phone clipped on my waist, it didn't register any steps! You can only enter you height and weight. This needs a distance calibration feature (like Nike+) as well as a sensitivity adjustment. Wait for something better.
Phone can't be in sleep mode?
O 57 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
Unless I'm missing something, the app only works when the phone is NOT in sleep mode. If that's correct (I worked with it for awhile), then it's not of much use. Darn, there's 1/3 of the cost of a mragarita down the drain.
Fine, if you only want SOME of your steps counted
Dr. Macenstein 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app seemed promising, but in the end no matter where I placed it, on a belt clip, in a pocket, or on an armband, I could not get it to register more than 2/3rds of the amount of steps I actually took. Comparing to my real pedometer, the results are disappointing. The iPhone's accelerometer is good for a lot of things, but a pedometer does not appear to be one of them.
The new version is Great
ShipBuilder9320 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I had trouble with first 2 version, but the last version is giving me an accurate count.
Not very accurate, should be free
SloBob 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app has a bunch of issues. It's very difficult to get it to actually monitor your steps, I had to put it in the bottom pocket of cargo shorts for it to work at all and even then it only registered about half my steps. The calories burned is pretty optimistic. The biggest drawback is that the screen's on the whole time so it's a battery killer. It's a nice idea, but not very useful in the real world. If I could get my $2 back, I'd return it.
Still not accurate.
Crockettv 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
The App has about 85% accuracy. I only wish there was a way to run the application in the BACKGROUND of the PHONE!!! To use the app, it was ALWAYS be in the "Steps" screen. If you go to the home screen, Steps will shut off and will not record your steps.
Simply Perfect!!!
Peartex 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My wife was looking for a way to keep track of calories burned while walking and making sure she stayed out long enough, and wakled fast enough and it was amazing to be able to find this app. Thanks you for taking the time to create this.
Ran my battery down in under 2000 steps
Kevin_S 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Not happy at all with this application.
Needs a calibration feature; bug in version 1.2
tim75 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
I tested version 1.2. HEre are my findings.
Simply put - Awful
RProeber 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Shouldn't have been released to the App store until it was at least somewhat accurate. But even after it's first update in late July which was supposed to increase accuracy it is still no place close. Horrible.
Not worth $2
Tom PA 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very dissapointing app. The app must be running, with the screen on, in order to function. If you turn off the screen, the app stops running. So much for having a pedometer running all day in your pocket -- the iPhone battery runs out before the end of the day. And, if you want to do anything else (like make a phone call), then you have to remember to start up the app again. I suppose if you were doing a very focused activity (like running on a treadmill) then this might app might be appropriate (but don't treadmills already have time/distance displays?).
Wish I Could Get My Money Back :(
Cato Cat 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Should be a free app. Turns off on it's own alot while I'm walking.
It would be great, if....
Tried to Like it 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
it actually worked. I ignored the other negative reviews and took a chance on this, and I REALLY wanted to like it. The biggest problem is that it doesn't ever quite live up to the promise. To start with, I tested it by counting 100 steps, and the app only logged 31. Furthermore, every time I put it in my hip hoster, closing the holster pressed the Stop button. If the developers plan improvements (instead of just giving up), they could solve that easily by using a slider instead of a button. I walked a .9 mile route with my dogs every night, so I tried Steps 2 nights in a row. The first night it said I walked 1159 steps and went .51 miles. The second night on the exact same route, it logged 829 steps and .40 miles. Given the wide variance, I can't even ballpark it. On the upside, I found that it did, in fact, continue counting steps even after the phone went to sleep. Needless to say, I'm disappointed. This could be a great little utility- if only it worked!
Don't Bother
DebDoe 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I found this application useless and wish I hadn't wasted my money. I wear my i-phone at the waist, and no amount of shaking/bouncing will get the steps to calculate correctly. Plus, the i-phone must stay "on" for it to register, and with the new 2.0 software, the phone automatically sleeps after a short time so the steps won't register. My regular pedometer works much better and is far more accurate.
Not a great solution
battlenun 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was hoping to put the phone in my pocket and count steps for the day. To do this you would have to leave the phone unlocked and best I can figure out not use it for anything else. Great idea, not a great solution.
Not so much!
RicMac 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Free, I wouldn't have minded. Actually I thought that if they had the juice to charge $2 they knew the thing would work. I have a one mile course I walk that has been carefully measured. Anything close would have impressed me. I wore it on my belt. The "Steps" counted exactly 250 steps in my mile and said I walked .2 of a mile.
Good Start, but needs improvement.
zdweeb 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was excited to see a pedometer in the App store as I was looking to purchase one. So for $1.99 I figured I would take a chance. Well the accuracy is very poor, I had it on while out walking today then stopped and sat for a while. I must of been moving my legs a little because it registered steps while I was sitting. Over all great idea, make improvements to the algorithm and you will have a decent app.
It's alright
eddietheman434 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
It counted 8/10 steps, so it's as reliable as I need it to be. It should be free though.
Good Idea, But Falls Short...
DannyBoy781 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love the idea, so I took a chance and bought this app despite the negative reviews. First I tested it by walking 100 paces, and it counted 30. (I assume they’re counting every step, not 2 steps per pace). Either way, it was off on each of my short tests. I walk the same route every night- about .9 miles, so I put it on my belt and took off. The first night it counted 1,100 steps and said I went .61 miles. The second night on the same route it counted 632 steps and said I went .51 miles. Either way, the error varied enough that it doesn’t seem reliable.
Not worth the $$
natemorris1 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This pedometer is useless... It doesn't count all my steps, even when I'm running. Then the other measurements are off too. Waste of money.
Not so hot...
Mr. Eisman 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am working on a weight loss technique that measures the distance I walk each day... I have a pedometer, but figured this might assist me in cutting down on the extra baggage... Let's just say that due to EXTREME lack in accuracy, I am going to continue to carry my pedometer... I walked a lap around my block (roughly .27 miles), it recorded 19 steps... I jogged up and down a flight of steps (20 steps) 4 times, it recorded 4 steps... The proof is in the pudding on this one!
It works
LatinoPower 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Put the iPhone in your pocket and start walking. I burnt 184 calories yesterday walking. Obviously it gives aproximate numbers but is still useful.
Okay...good enough for now
onxo 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
it's as good as it get for version one. it's about 80% accurate...makes you run/walk farther. I would have like if it was $.99...I'm hoping it'll get better with free upgrade. You're getting a lot of good feedback dispite negative reviews at the onset. as far as I'm concerned, we need apps like this. i had hoped for a half-baked Nike+ replacement.
