I’m a big fan of the Stitcher Radio app (I have over 800 hours of usage, it tells me) and the company just released an updated iPhone app which will guarantee that my friends know how much I dig it because it now includes integration with Facebook’s Timeline. Once you download the updated app and authorize Facebook, it’s simple to share the podcasts and live radio that you listen to. Stitcher said it has worked closely with Facebook on this and that it is one of the first mobile apps with Timeline integration. In a blog post, Stitcher describes the Facebook features like this: See what your friends are listening to all in once place, share your own favorites and view your Stitcher listening stats. You’ll also be able to discover new podcasts your friends are listening to via Facebook and share your favorite shows. This is a first for talk Read More
01.26.12        App Score: 9/10    Stitcher Radio is an extremely useful free app for anyone who want to keep current on news and events. Voted one of the top 5 news apps by Apple in 2011, Stitcher turns your iPhone or iPad into a custom radio station by streaming your personalized selection of podcasts, live broadcasts, and on-demand content from more than 5000 sources — including many of the top programs from NPR, BBC, CNN, Fox and others. It’s a handy tool to have to access to, especially if you frequently travel where there is no direct Internet connection or traditional radio available. One of the great things about Stitcher Radio is that it’s really free — not masquerading as free with subscription fees lurking in the fine print. Simply install the app and after a short registration (using your email or Facebook Connect) to start listening. Not Read More

Free App Friday: On the Radio

Posted 11/18/2011 at 12:29pm | by Florence Ion Donna Summer put it best when she said that love is found on the radio. And sure, in this generation we've got stations like Pandora and Last.FM, but those stations ask us to dictate what it plays. The radio's best feature was just that: the way it could spontaneously change our moods based on the next song the DJ'd decide to play. With that, here are three free apps to help take you back to that time before the iPod was permanently tethered to your car stereo and you kicked the good ol' FM radio to the curb.  I'm crazy about podcasts, but I hate that I have to connect my iPod touch to iTunes to get the latest episodes. Stitcher Radio lets you bypass iTunes and just get to the podcasts yourself. You can create "stations" from certain genres and topics, which Read More
Toyota's Touch Life will "mirror" your iPhone's display
Calendar16 Wed, 26 Oct 2011 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
One of the frustrating things about driving a car with an iPhone (or other smartphone) in tow is syncing its contents with the car's audio or navigation system. But thanks to Toyota's new Toyota Touch Life, that doesn't have to be so much of a problem anymore. According to Engadget, Toyota's new Touch Infotainment system lets iPhone and iPod touch users access a handful of apps directly from their iDevice. By downloading Toyota's "application launcher," a free app from the App Store, users can access certain apps on the in-car display, which mirrors iPhone's screen...in part. Only certain apps are compatible, including Garmin StreetPilot and some Internet news and radio apps like AUPEO!, plus Stitcher, Facebook and Twitter. Touch Infotainment is exclusive to new new Toyota Verso-S, Yaris and Hilux cars. We don't know if will become available to the Avensis, Prius or Verso models or as an add-on to existing Read More

Apps I’m digging lately
Calendar16 Fri, 02 Sep 2011 19:09:13 UTC +00:00
Since it’s the Friday before a long weekend, I thought I’d take a little time to share some of the apps that I’m digging. As I mentioned in previous posts, these apps aren’t necessarily new or cutting edge but these are the ones I wind up using and clicking more often. I do tend to skew toward iOS apps because the iPhone is my primary device now but I still have multiple devices around me, so I’m checking out apps on all platforms. We also want to hear what apps you’re digging in the comments. Damn you, Daniel. I’m not much of a gamer but after reading his Jetpack Joyride review, I quickly snatched the game up for my iPhone and I’ve wasted so much time since then. The game is a momentum-based side scroller where you use a jetpack to collect coins and avoid obstacles. Like Angry Birds, the concept Read More
New Stitcher Update Lands on iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 19 Apr 2011 15:30:44 UTC +00:00
Your ears will never feel the same... Stitcher has been a fixture in the podcasting space for quite some time, but to put it quite bluntly, their iPad app had been leaving users with something to be desired.  Essentially the app was just a blown up version of the iPhone software, doing absolutely nothing to take advantage of the extra real estate that the tablet format allowed. Luckily, this is now a thing of the past, as the company has announced that there is a new universal extension to the Stitcher tool, that is custom re-built and re-designed from the ground up, to cater to their ever growing iPad consumer base.  Here are some of the new features that just debuted: On top of all of these outstanding improvements, the homepage of the app itself has been re-engineered into a radio news-magazine of sorts, meant to deliver breaking new content that Read More

I’m a big fan of podcasts and Internet radio so I was very excited to check out the Stitcher iPad app. This brings podcasts and live streaming radio to your tablet without having to download anything. I downloaded the free Stitcher iPad app yesterday and have been playing around with it for a few hours. I’ve used this on the Android platform a while ago but I stopped because it would crash too often. Luckily, that’s not the case with the Stitcher iPad app, as it was rock solid and had a nice user interface. The home page brings you curated topics like what’s hot in the news, the top stations on the Stitcher service or something topical. For instance, the home page yesterday was filled with a lot of tax information because April 15 (tax day in the United States) is just around the corner. What type of content can Read More

Stitcher Radio
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 20:20:43 UTC +00:00
Stitcher Radio is an app that attempts to culminate every possible news podcast into one convenient app that users can then browse and listen to. There are a ton of different popular podcast in the list to choose from such as stations from IGN, ESPN, CNN, NPR and more. The app gives you quick access to these stations and even lets you search for local stations in the area where you live. Users can create there own specific favorites list for instant listening or just bookmark them for later listening. The app also has a live section where you can either look for local live podcasts or browse through the many that are listed. The app ran great and the quality was excellent the entire time that I was listening. I never had issues with the podcasts and there was such a huge selection that I felt slightly overwhelmed. There is Read More
O Jailbreak, You Evil Temptress; Thou Ownest My Soul
Calendar16 Tue, 01 Dec 2009 12:33:08 UTC +00:00
No sooner had I posted this article and read the initial comments than I suddenly was overwhelmed with an urge to let it ra1n and jailbreak again.   I had been concerned over the very minor chance of something going wrong and winding up with a bricked iPhone, but I figured, what ‘s the worst that can happen?  I have an iPod Touch here in Iraq (or is it iRaq?) with me, so the most I would lose capability-wise if everything went straight to hell would be the ability to get incoming text messages, and that could be rectified easily, if inconveniently, while the iPhone was sent home for repair.    So, I took a deep breath, and Wow. Just Wow. Every time I jailbreak, I can ‘t help but feel like Dorothy in the (colorized) Wizard of Oz when she walks out of her house and everything goes from black and white Read More

Stitcher 2.0, now with 100% more TUAW
Calendar16 Wed, 20 May 2009 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
In our discussions of radio apps for the iPhone we've briefly mentioned Stitcher, a great app for accessing a wide variety of audio programs on the go. In fact, Stitcher has been kind enough to add our TUAW Talkcast in the app and on their site (where you can stream via your browser). Stitcher is currently available for the iPhone and several of the latest BlackBerry models, although the Storm version is still pending. I've been using Stitcher 2 for a while, and if you're a news junkie, you will be pleased. Check the gallery for a screen-by-screen analysis, but here are some winning points for Stitcher: Read More

Useful and Straightforward
geofree 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Thank goodness for a useful and intuitive iphone app. The streams are organized and the content tends to be timely. A refreshing change from listening solely to music.
GOOD; could be GREAT. NEEDS UPDATES, & PAUSE during calls!
sevroc 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Stitcher is a great concept. It plays like a Pandora, only for talk radio instead of music (although there is a bit of music also). This is already an entertaining app, but as many have said.....IT NEEDS TO UPDATE MORE OFTEN! News stories that are days old (and in some cases weeks old) are all but useless. ALSO, when you recieve a call while listening to Stitcher, you lose your place and miss the rest of the program you were listening to. The developers need to make it pause during a call, and resume where you left off (like Pandora does). I have faith that Stitcher can be improved into a 5+ star app.
Stitcher Radio is Entirely Liberal Biased
Navigator777777 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
I'm not opposed to liberal radio but the absence of radio content even remotely dedicated to counter balance the agenda leads me to learning a new skill: Removing this app.
LOVE this app!!
iJustine 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
This is such a great app. It has all the top news headlines you'd want in just the touch of a button. It's also free!
Perfect News Radio
Hector27 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Gives you want you need...from Gaming, World, Music, Local, Tech, Sports, and Review News and everything in between....If you like certain radio channels...add them to your favorites and never search for them again...Very Much Recommended!
Great way to listen to some quality shows!
pgk2008 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
For those of us who commute when the local public radio is only broadcasting classical music, this is the perfect news app. I favorited BBC world news, NBC news, The New York Times 'Front page', NPR's Fresh Air, and a few others. During any drive I can now get the latest news through Stitcher in three taps (Stitcher - Favorites - Play all). I'm imagining that things are even more convenient now that they have implemented a 'resume' option - installing the update right now.
Yes. It is very awesome.
Idahodreams 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Very cool. Does need a bit more balance on sources. If you're a lefty - you be very happy. If your're a righty, you'll struggle to find content. Too bad. Still it's very well done and quick on the streams.
Wow
Matthallett 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
With this app and pandora, I am going to cancel my Sirius subscription.
Great Companion to Pandora
Fuzz-da-Kat 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
When I'm not listening to music throughout the day, I am listening to podcasts and talk radio. This is basically pandora for talk radio and news. I love the fact that I can pop this on when I'm in the mood for talking heads, choose a category and enjoy. Sound quality is good and so far the streaming has worked well on both 3g and Edge. Great app if you're into this kind of stuff.
Great idea, wonderful execution
A fake Kenny McCormick 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
Plus it's a nifty program. I just wish it's collection will encompass more channels, but that's me being greedy.
Phenomenal app - works 10x better than before
Caroline1 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4886
I already loved this app because, unlike most of the junk out there, it's incredibly useful. There is simply no more efficient way to get my NPR favorites, my news, and my Onion fix on a daily basis. The new version is beautifully executed - I get seamless listening with very little wait time in between shows. Unbelievable that this is free.
love it!
M4D 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
This app is great, It consolidates all of the best news-radio podcasts and streams them right to my phone. Awesome, now I can catch up on my NPR.

Fantastic
MortStonestein 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4886
This is one of the most addictive apps. I can't cycle , excersize or walk without my iPhone and Stitcher .
Incredibly Lame
Markie Boi 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
This is, by far, the worst iPhone app I've downloaded. The user has no control over the news sources provided, which is fine if you want to have content spoon-fed from CNN and NPR. Try FlyCast instead: it's far superior.
Awesome, streamlined content discovery
Gernblanstein 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
Great interface to lots of new content. One of the few must-have apps.
Pandora for news
Ediana 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Fantastic customization for anyone. I like that I can get my fill of tech and entertainment news on the go, customized just for me, thanks to the favorites feature.

Great app
RadioSuomi 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
Awesome app!
Great simple app!
chipnuts 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
This is the perfect companion for other apps like last.fm and pandora. Free news all the time. The only things I could see adding to this is being able to scrub a timeline and being able to group favorites to really create a custom new station. You can sort of do this to a point by rearranging your entire list, but I'd like to see being able to have a games, elections groups and a games, general news group, or an NRP group, etc. All in all, this is a must have with nice favorites features where the wishes I have won't keep me from using this app on a daily basis.
Great app.. Must have
icoach 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.3158
Love the web app, client is even better. If you like pandora check out this service... Great for a change from the music on your iPhone or a way to catch up with news on the go. Very solid ui and great experience.
One of the best apps available for the iPhone
Nate Winters 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.4886
This application is amazing. I would be willing to buy a device that just does what this application does. Being able to create virtual radio stations out of recent podcast updates is one thing, but streaming it over the 3G network allowing you to listen to it anytime, anywhere is great. I have this app running everyday during my commute to and from work.
WOW
RogersE 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4886
This app is FRKN awesome. I started just listening to a few of my most liked podcasts then added my favorites list. After a week or two I stopped syncing my podcasts via iTunes to my iPhone and saved over a GB of space and stored over 30 podcasts in my favorites list. I am a desk jockey that really needs some entertainment to make it through the day. This app is worth a million times what the developers asking for it. Give it a try. The developer also responded to every email/comment/question I sent. WOW
This is the app I use the most!
Mike88 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4886
I really enjoy this app! It's easy, works well. I find the shows interesting. I have several radio apps downloaded and I always end up selecting this one. For people that don't want to wade through programs they don't like, select the ones you do like into your favorites folder.
Love 2.1!
EthanJ42 5.0 stars Version: 2.1.6346
I like the way the content is laid out in categories in the new version. I also love the sharing features for posting a show on Twitter or sharing with friends on Facebook!
Disappointing
KroGal 1.0 stars Version: 2.1.6346
After trying this app, I deleted it. I would much prefer to pay rather than listen to the ads that pop up all the time as I surf around. Also, the interface leaves much to be desired.
Great Selection
BombAbear 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.3231
Excellent quality of programing and great selection. However there seems to still be a few bugs that need working out. If you pause a show you often cannot start it again. And going back and even closing the app aren't enough. Rebooting ur phone is the only option. I really do like it (5 stars) but I am looking forward to the fixes in the next update. Get this app for sure.
Good content, lousy delivery
NurtureWarrior 2.0 stars Version: 2.1.6346
I've just begun to explore Stitcher and finding a lot of content I like but I am EXTREMELY frustrated with the the structure. When I get to a list of programs to select, I get barely two seconds to choose one or Stitcher decides for me. If I don't want that one, I can't go back to the last list but have to start all over to work down through the categories. And two seconds is not enough time to read the list. And then there are the ads - it's next to impossible to not accidentally tap on one while listening to a show and have the show dropped while the iPhone switches to the damn ad which seems to take you completely out of the Stitcher app. When I finally get back to my show, I've got to use the slide bar to find where I'd left off. I am beginning to think it isn't worth the bother.
Stitcher Steals from Podcasters
Erik Erickson 1.0 stars Version: 4.8.0
...thru a method called "scraping." Then they strip out the original ads and rebroadcast from their own servers. This means podcast creators get no money for the ads and no statistics on how many people listen thru Stitcher. Support the podcasts you love by using another app like Downcast.
Pandora of podcasts
Al TairSix 5.0 stars Version: 4.8.0
Use this all the time. Very convenient not having to download the podcasts, you can just stream the ones you like. It's awesome finding other content you had no idea existed. Can listen to all my paranormal and international soccer podcasts in one place.

Glenn in Texas 5.0 stars Version: 4.8.0

Social with a Reason
Listenum 5.0 stars Version: 4.8.0
So many apps place social I their app without giving a compelling reason. They don't really make use of social in a useful way.Stitcher is cool. I love sharing what I listen to with friends.
Sharing is caring!
Riri090210 5.0 stars Version: 4.8.0
Wow- loving this update. The Facebook stuff is great. I didnt even know some of my friends were using stitcher. How cool. This is a great way for my show to get more exposure on the Stitcher app- and beyond.I also read the review by Erik and for the record, stitcher never strips out any content- they grab episode files from my Rss feed and stream them from their servers- but nothing changes from the file at all. Also my stats are available on their website when I log in. Piece of cake. Just thought I'd clear that up.I love hearing my show and so many others on Stitcher. Not only am I a podcaster, I am now a huge podcasting fan- haha. All day listener!
