GameTime: Beat the Editors!
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Sep 2011 22:29:03 UTC +00:00
Posted 09/08/2011 at 2:29pm | by Nic Vargus As I prepare next week's amazing Peggle HD GameTime, I need a few breaks from the color-frenzied, peg-bouncing action on my iPad. My co-workers, on the other hand, are in desperate need of a break from the wonderful world of shipping a magazine. So we've opted to take those breaks with you, our equally game-crazy readers. This week, we're taking a unique opportunity to challenge our readers to a few of our favorite games. If you think you can beat us at our own game, keep reading. Flo will be playing Words with Friends. Beware, she's playing on an Android phone and can drop more four-letter words than a sailor. Username: Ohthatflo Susie will be playing Carcassonne. She wants me to warn you that she is literally just starting (so go easy on her, at least for a few rounds). Username: Sfsooz Ray Read More

Sure that sounds awesome in theory, but the bosses said we were being lazy, that we needed to put our animals away and get back to work. By the way, they picked the MacBook Air. Pets love the Macbook Air. A piece of paper that fell into the pile came in a close second. So here is the top wares for 2010 as picked by the Mac|Life editors. iPad 3G Review: Three Days in Paris With the iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 11 May 2010 13:25:38 UTC +00:00
Here’s the plan – I have a quick business trip planned to Paris for just 3 days and 2 nights – can I get by, me, a HEAVY computer user, for that time with just an iPad? What equipment do I need to do so? What things won’t I be able to do? Sounds like a pretty good test of the functionality of the device and a great way to review the 3G iPad for travel use on a business trip. Let’s set up the testing process. The equipment I have with is the iPad 3G, an external battery to make sure I’m covered for the long flights, the Apple Bluetooth keyboard, a case and a bag. For back up, I have my Macbook, and my iPhone. Thats a lot of Apple devices in one bag. I hope I don’t have problems with security. iPad 3G The iPad 3G gives me Read More
Weekend Fun: Strategery

This weekend, we’re going to have fun in another brain game. This time, it’s a game similar to Risk, Strategery. Strategery is a land battle game where you battle up to 4 other players on random maps of various sizes. You start out controlling an equal part of the world map and battle to control more. You initiate a battle against another country on the board and then automatic dice rolls determine the winner. You turn continues until you have done all of the valid battles you wish. After your turn you can reinforce your troops in the countries that you still control to give you stronger forces for the next round. The game continues until one player or the other obliterates the others Read More

Posted 04/29/2010 at 1:56pm | by Ray Aguilera With 185,000 apps and counting, the App Store is a vast warehouse of digital goodies for your iPhone (and now iPad too). But like most mega-marts, the sheer size of it all makes the good stuff harder to find. We’ve scoured the Store, and found the best apps to help you use your iPhone to it’s fullest potential. Whether it’s games you seek, or productivity tools, we’ve got you covered. As it turns out, there really is an app for that, no matter what that is. The iPhone and iPod touch brought back fun to videogaming, with developers focussing on innovation, affordability, and novelty. Touchscreen and accelerometer controls also force designers to think different, resulting in games that are a glorious collision of classic and cutting-edge gameplay and technology. --Craig Grannell Steph Thirion · $2.99 Eliss is the perfect game for the iPhone’s Read More
10 Must-Have Board Games for the iPad
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Apr 2010 16:30:33 UTC +00:00
With the increased screen real estate of the iPad, it’s the perfect device for playing board games. If you haven’t had a chance to browse some of the great titles available on the App Store, here’s some of our favorite board games to get you started. Such a classic, Scrabble is awesome on the iPad platform. Enjoy playing against friends (or a computer) on a gorgeous large game board. If you have an iPhone, download the free Scrabble Tile Rack and arrange your letters on your own device. When it’s your turn, simply flick them towards the game board and they’ll appear, ready for you to place and score big. Similar to the iPhone version, you can play against your friends locally or over a local network. Scrabble is $9.99. If there’s one app at the moment that’s popular across social networks and mobile devices, it’s Words with Friends. Similar to Read More
5 iPhone Games You Should Supersize on Your iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 06 Apr 2010 22:12:32 UTC +00:00
iPhone and iPod touch users who just added Apple’s third device to their inventory of gadgets know that the out-of-pocket expense on the iPad itself could eventually pale in comparison to the total cost spent on applications. For those of us left with much less discretionary income after purchasing our pricey product, we need to maximize our iPad app budget. Thankfully Apple promised that most the applications we already know and love would work on the iPad too. Practice has proven a tad disappointing with some of these apps, but we have found a number of iPhone games that sparkle on the big screen. Here are five that you should definitely try out on the big screen. What other iPhone/iPod touch games have you found to look beautiful on the iPad? Some iPhone games just look amazing and play spectacularly on the iPad even though there may not be an iPad Read More

Awesome strategy game
BrianRubin 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Love it so far. Only suggestion/wish is that it'd be nice to transfer armies from one country to an adjacent one. Other than that I am enjoying it immensely.
Fun little game, well worth $1.
AegisCuSith 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I had to pull myself away from this game.
Dice Wars!
Xian Zhu Xuande 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game plays very much like the popular Flash game, Dice Wars. I was thinking just this morning that it would be nice to have on my phone. This game is very well polished, fast paced, and a fun way to pass small portions of time! Please add network local play, in addition to pass around. Online multiplayer would be awesome!
Pretty fun although title is deceiving
mrbass.org 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Not tons of strategy if that is what they mean by the word 'strategery' not sure. Anyway it is what it is and I like this better than Galcon which I don't like very much and tons of people do so go figure. Yes it's dice wars. I wish we could choose how many armies to commit to a battle. That'd at least give us a chance to keep some defense if the attack failed.
Really fun
here in cali 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is such a well done game. Simple eye pleasing interface, great gameplay, not too long, not too short, several different map sizes, plenty of A.I. levels to challenge everyone, and all for just a buck. Excellent game, thanks!!
Amazing
Sandman0662 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Perfect game really easy and addictive. Way worth the 99. cents
Hard to Stop
VirtualAlex 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Similiar to the flash game "DiceWars" (google it for a free sample of this kind of gameplay) but with superior graphics and touch interface. The gameplay is risk-like and the games are short, taking about 1-10 minutes depending on difficulty. At first I thought this was super easy until I started playing on hard. The challenge is just perfect, and if you really think your moves out it's like playing a true strategy game. If you like Risk you will love it. If you like Chess you will probably love it also.
Great Risk style game
Punkrockguilt 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Lots of fun - definately worth more than $0.99! Many options (difficulty etc) and sleek visuals... Really well thought out, developer should be charging more!
This is very good for $1, almost perfect.
Lil Pips 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
For a $1 game, this is a fun little dice wars style time waster. Priced higher I think it would need more features. The interface is clean and functional but I would have liked more documentation. The armies added each turn, in particular, seem to follow no set rules and may be random. There are some nice options included. If this title were expanded to include fortification of armies, more placement rules, and online play, this would be one of my top apps ( and likely worth much more ).
Greatiness!
Jbraz26 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I love this game. Simple well designed and addictive. Thanks for making it cheap too.
This rocks!!
J6j6j6 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Beautiful interface and a stunning game. Great job! -Avi
Great Game
Rude RA 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I love Dice Wars! Now I've got it on the go.
Awesome app...Totally addicting...Worth the buck
NdaT 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I would highly recommend this app....It is quick to learn, and totally addicting.
My favorite iPhone app
shockwavewriter 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Simple gameplay, but deeply challenging and satisfying. Try the options, such as manual placement of won "armies".
Easily my favorite game on the iphone.
WhiteSoxFan007 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I probably play this game twice a day, everyday. It's my favorite game for the iphone. Challenging and great for strategic thinking.
Nice game of strategy....
Ultra Marroon 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This has a nice strategy engulfed into its own game play. Attack or restock? Chance it or play it safe? All elements of a solid game.....The only drawback is once it is down to two players, the one who owns the most property will always win because of the restocking element....If the designers could develope a way to incorporate heavy artillery or something, maybe an underdog might have a chance to pull out a win.
Best Value on the iPhone/iPod
airwalke13 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
So far, there have only been two games that have demanded repeat play from me, which is Touchgrind and Strategery. Very fun and simple, easy to play on the go, and the recent update only made the game better. I got it when it was still $0.99, but knowing what I know now, it's still worth $1.99.
Newest update is excellent
RetroGuy2000 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I didn't buy V1 because of the inability to manually assign bonus armies. When I saw V2 had this, I bought it and it's been excellent value. I love the random maps, the clean and functional interface, the numerous options including random play order and multiple difficulties, and of course the fast and fun gameplay.
Worth the price - UPDATES!!
tekssX 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Sadly I wasn't able to buy it when it was just a buck, but this is one of the first games I bought when I purchased a gift card. The gameplay is totally worth the price, although I can't wait for the manual army placement update and hoping for online multiplayer in the future. Visuals are simple and pleasing. Overall it's a great game and a nice investment.
What an update
FlowingBits 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I've been playing this game at least once a day for weeks now. This update added all the features it needed. This is the best Risk style strategy game by far. Now if I could just pick my color.
Incredible!
bronxred 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This is my first review anywhere on iTunes. I am so angry at this developer for creating a game that's completely taken over my life: I don't eat, sleep, or do anything productive anymore. And it's rare I ever play any other game now either. I would say thanks, but I really should start shaving again first.
Just what I was looking for
nasa37 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Was looking for a "Risk" like game and this is it. Really great interface. Makes 30 minutes in mass transit feel like 5. I will miss my stop someday playing this game for sure. My only suggestion would be to let us choose our color instead of always being blue. I am dying to see a sequel or some updates that can thow in some new wrinkles. Stick with this game developers and feed us more, this is awesome.
Great
Megamattron 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Tons of fun, great design.
Perfect!
Chasing Rabbits 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Quick, simple, and fun!
Worth a Buck for Sure.
Jaric55 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
It's more fun when you have a human opponent to play, and it's great that you can have up to 5 Humans playing the same game. The 3 difficulty settings offer a good range of skill to play againt. It does a good job at generating random maps that consist of hexagons. It's a cute game, but I'm really waiting for a version of Advance Wars (GameBoyAdvance) to be released on Ipod. If they can get SimCity on here, they surely could get Advance Wars. I would easily pay $10 or more for that. In the meantime (if AW ever does come to Ipod), this is something that is worth spending time playing in my opinon, especially for only a buck.
My favorite iPhone strategy game
Leadfoot5 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
In terms of gameplay per penny, this is the best $0.99 app available today. It has a perfectly polished interface, great (albeit simple) sound, and addictive gameplay. As others have said, it's a remake of the great flash game "DiceWars" so if you like that game, you will like this one. I have spent over $100 on tons of apps these past few months, including some "name brand" $7.99 and $9.99 games, but this one has been getting all of my free time.
Woohoo!
intheyarbles 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is too much fun!
Best turn based strategy game ever!!
firewire400 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
I normally don't play turn based strategy games but this is absolutely amazing!! Very addicting game!! It is simple, attractive, and FUN! definitely worth $2
This is not a game. It is a life lesson.
reefdog 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Were this a game, I would say it was insanely well-designed, with beautifully simple graphics, pitch-perfect effects, and great sound design. It's simple and addictive: even on the harder settings, you can play a quick round on the toilet. Sheesh, the *menu system* is a model of inspiration.
Great game
këgo 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Love the options that the game has. Landscape mode for the large maps would be nice. After trying Lux, this is much easier to get into.
Simple, challenging, and addictive
Consectetur 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
The "lite" version is OK, but I really got hooked on the full version. It's well worth the $ for the bigger maps, harder difficulties, manual army placement, "land grab" mode (so fun), and other options. And it hasn't crashed a single time for me ...
Needs fixing!
Ookotie 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Ever since the new update camecout it's been acting weird!! It keeps reshuffling the map in the middle of the game, and sometimes it won't even let me end my turn unless I exit out and start it back up! This needs to be fixed as soon as possible!!
Invisible reset button?!
Jelder123456789 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
The new update sounded promising, but now whenever I tap near the bottom of the screen (even mid-game) it shuffles a new map!! Fix this or the game is completely broken! The new map icon isn't even there, it just creates a new map
Had to downgrade to earlier version
Cali Gomez 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
LATEST VERSION HAS MAJOR BUGS!!I had to downgrade to earlier version, since version 2.0.1 kept restarting the game right in the middle of it... 5 out of 5 times I played it, I was not able to finish the game I started... Also, it kept going unresponsive for a few seconds when placing the armies, which really sucked...
New version unstable, plz fix
Flap Jack 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
It would be nice to have the option to replay a map also.
2 stars for v2.0
Rgggjjgfgh 2.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Great game but latest version (2.0) is super unstable. I went back to the free version since at least I can finish a game! Fix the bugs then this is back to a 5 star game!
Strategery Bug
Johannes von Richtenstein 2.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I've enjoyed playing this game, and would love to whole-heartedly recommend. However, there is a frequently occurring bug (noted by others) that renders the game quite frustrating. This programming error causes the game to reset itself mid-play when tapping countries to attack. I've noted this happening from the lower portion of the "game board" to at least the center of the playing field. Please work out a fix soon.
Bad Update
Sam_12_12 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I never had any issues until this last update. It seems very buggy and will restart a new game mid-game. It also has some other quirks as well getting hung up. Issues need to be fixed before this is worth buying again.
Played 1,500 games at 2.0. Now I quit.
SoSeverian 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
My addiction has been cured. What was a 5 star game is now only 1 star. It is never fin to be on the verge of hexagonal domination, only to have the game reset on you. I feel like Alexander the Great - on the verge of conquering the world, only to look up in the sky to see the sun burst into an earth- destroying supernova.
Bug = waste of $
panzer tanzer 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
One star due to the reset bug until it's fixed this is a waste of the icon space on the screen.
Don't buy until the "reset" bug is fixed
LumpySr 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I'm pissed. This was a great game until the recent update everyone is complaining about. I've only finished two games since getting the update! How do you not test out your update?? Do not buy it until they fix it. Unbelievable. Horribly frustrating. You get 3/4 of the way through the game and it resets. Wait a sec...if you want to go bald BUY IT! You'll tear your hair out and be bald in a week. It's bad. Wicked bad. As in "so bad you wish you could yell at the programmer and ask him/her how such a bright person could be stupid enough to let this update out." Have I said enough? I'm still annoyed.
Well done
Shijak 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.2
Thanks for the fix, works great!!
