Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. SEGA Slashes Prices On The App Store, Too
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Feb 2011 17:48:57 UTC +00:00
OK. So, SEGA is following suit with the other big publishers on the App Store and is now holding its own personal deal-a-thon. Now, until whenever, you can grab around 16 different SEGA games for 80 percent off the usual price or just 99 cents. And we’re not just talking about the pub’s stable of lackluster Genesis ports getting the cut here; those games are part of the deal, for sure, but there’s also a few native gems mixed in. There are too many games to do a meaningful breakdown with, but here’s a list of what’s being offered and the prices of each: Not bad, eh? At this point, I’m not sure if we should say that the entire App Store is up for grabs, but it’s getting close as all these publishers start racing to the bottom. Who knew that Valentine’s Day would be giving us so much this Read More
SEGA Permanently Drops The Price Of All Its iOS Titles
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Dec 2010 19:36:14 UTC +00:00
If you were App shopping around Thanksgiving, you probably gobbled up one of two of the usually-premium priced SEGA titles on sale. If you missed out for one reason or another, well, here's your second chance at correcting that egregious error. SEGA has slashed the prices on every single bit of content it has on the App Store. From Chu Chu Rocket HD to Streets of Rage, every SEGA published or developed title's price has been permanently dropped. Now, you can grab titles like Shining Force and Ecco the Dolphin for a mere $.99, or even grab newer ports like Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 for $6.99. In the interest of keeping you fully informed, here's a list, provided via SEGA's own blog, of all the Apps original and new prices: Of course, just because these games are on sale doesn't mean you should go on an all-out Sega buying bender. Now this is a press release that I didn't think I'd ever see, as both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [$5.99] and Streets of Rage [$2.99] were just updated to support full multiplayer co-op modes via Bluetooth. To play, you'll obviously need two devices, each equipped with Bluetooth and their own copy of the game. In Sonic, players will be able to play through the game together with one person controlling Sonic and the other controlling Tails. In Streets of Rage, players will fight together through the game as they purge the streets of bad guys. It's incredibly cool to see both of these games updated, as it means that Sega has been working on improving their Genesis emulator, which as we've mentioned several times in the past leaves much to be desired. With Bluetooth multiplayer working, my imagination is running wild with two player games I'd love to see Sega bring Read More
If you’re a fan of receiving free candy or for cleaning off an absurd amount of toilet paper off your front lawn, then you’ll know that Halloween is nearly upon us. Most people celebrate Halloween by paying money to go to places for the sole purpose of possibly getting frightened, walking with their children to complete strangers homes in order to get a treat, or keeping all of their lights off in order to avoid wave after wave of trick-or-treaters. If the last example sounds like your kind of Halloween, then why not take advantage of the big Halloween sales a number of iOS game publishers are offering for this weekend only? Playing on your iDevice of choice would certainly keep strangers from knowing you’re home, so give it a try! EA Mobile: SEGA: Namco: Gameloft: PopCap Games: Did I miss any games that are currently on sale from your favorite Read More
October 28, 2010 by Brian     SEGA announced a special Halloween price for some of its most popular game titles for iOS devices. This includes the following games for iPhone, iTouch and iPad: To benefit from this special offer simply make a purchase through the AppStore before it’s over. This is a pretty good deal but keep in mind that it expires on November 1st.   Related posts: Article by Brian My name's Brian, Brian Jones. Aug 27th 2010 at 9:00AM Nice to know folks can still appreciate a classic! It may not look as sharp as even most retro releases, but Phantasy Star 2 was the bomb. Also, the soundtrack is still as amazing as ever. I have usually been hesitant towards buying re-releases of old games on new devices and platforms but an offer like this is just too good to pass up. Just bought Shining Force for a mere 0,79 €! awesome... thanks for the heads-up. sonic 2 in the bag. tonight i'm gonna party like its 1992. It's about that time for many gamers to start heading back to school, and it can be a difficult task to say goodbye to the lazy days of summer. Your friends at Sega want to make this transition just a little bit easier by offering just about all of their App Store titles at a discounted rate until September 1st. And Sega's not alone, as developer Meridian is celebrating the one year anniversary of their popular dual-stick shooter Alive 4-ever by putting their entire selection of games on sale for the next three days. If you haven't had a chance to pick up any of these titles before, now is your chance to do so and save a bit of cash in the process. Sega titles on sale: Meridian titles on sale: Besides these specific sales, there's pretty much always other titles with price drops at any given time, as most Read More

Sega iPhone App Sale Includes Sonic, Golden Axe and More
Calendar16 Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:45:57 UTC +00:00
If you’re looking for a bargain inside the App Store, then these Sega games should fit the bill quite nicely!  A wide variety of their popular titles have been dropped by at least 50%, so if you were ever put off by the slightly higher than average pricing of Sega’s apps, then now is the time to buy. Here are the games on offer, complete with their own easy link directly to the App Store: Both Space Harrier 2 and Sega Columns Deluxe remain at $0.99, and Sega’s brand new RPG release, Phantasy Star II,  sits at $2.99.  As usual, let us know if you picked up one of these bargains, and tell us what you thought of it! Sega has released a number of classic Genesis games on the App Store- Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99], Streets of Rage [$2.99], and as of last night, Ecco the Dolphin [$2.99] and Space Harrier II [99¢]. In the past we've been increasingly critical of Sega releasing these emulated games, as while the games wrapped in the emulator are undoubtedly classics, the emulator itself leaves much to be desired. Revisiting these games with my iPhone 4 has revealed that Apple has finally released hardware that is fast enough to properly run Sega's emulator (although I have had weird crashing issues with Sonic 2). If you've got an iPhone 4, the games run substantially better than the 3GS/3rd generation iPod touch, leaving the touch controls as the only issue. If you're stuck in the world of the iPhone 3G or 2nd Generation iPod touch, you're still Read More
How to play SNES on your iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 13 Jul 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Unfortunately, as we posted the other day, Nintendo isn't likely to actually allow any Super Nintendo games on your iPad anytime soon. That doesn't technically mean you can't do it, though; if you're willing to jailbreak your iPad and install snes4iPhone, you can experience all of the magical and revolutionary retro console gaming that you want. The video above from Lifehacker makes it easy; in just four steps, it'll walk you through jailbreaking the iPad with Spirit, installing snes4iPhone with Cydia, getting some ROMs installed, and even syncing up a Bluetooth controller (like a Wii remote, but an iPhone with a compatible app will work as well) to play games with. None of this is new at all, but the guide is quite clear and makes things pretty easy. Of course, that's only if you want to take the step of jailbreaking your iPad. If you're not willing to do that, Read More

iPhone 4 Game Sale Extravaganza
Calendar16 Wed, 23 Jun 2010 16:52:06 UTC +00:00
Following EA's lead of their massive 99¢ sale, quite a few other developers are slashing prices in hopes of being on the charts for the influx of new iPhone 4 owners powering up their devices for the first time today or tomorrow and checking out this "App Store" they've heard so much about. We're going to be putting together another "So you just got an iPhone..." post similar to the one we did last year for the launch of the 3GS, but in the meantime you might not want to miss some of these sales as there's no telling how long they will last: Of course there are always tons of sales taking place on the App Store, this is just a short listing of popular games with price drops. Head on over to AppShopper to see a list of popular games and all games with recent price drops. Quote: Originally Read More
Believe It: Sega Ultimate Genesis Emulator for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:42:45 UTC +00:00
Posted 01/20/2010 at 7:42am | by J.R. Bookwalter Old-school gamers look back fondly on consoles such as the Sega Genesis, which launched the esteemed careers of such characters as Sonic the Hedgehog. Very soon, you can relive those bygone gaming days on your very own iPhone. While Apple has been fairly hardcore about denying emulators a place at the App Store table, Gizmodo is reporting that Sega is about to unleash an official, approved app called Ultimate Genesis in early February. Of course, Sega is no stranger to the App Store, having already released a handful of titles, including Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and the aforementioned hedgehog. Those releases were technically emulated, meaning the apps were emulators with the official ROMs packaged inside -- great for gamers since they were faithful adaptations, although they were a little slow on anything prior to an iPhone 3GS. Thanks to the App Store’s Read More
There are few iPhone games that I will immediately buy. Most of the ones I do, however, are the classic games I played as a teenager. The iPhone/iPod touch is more than powerful enough to handle these games and it seems that there are many people like me who are keen to experience these classics again. So, here’s a roundup of modern ports of classic games. Only official ports of classic games are detailed here — clones and the like do exist but I had to draw a line in the sand. I’ve also included links to Wikipedia for those interested in the history of the games. The Video Arcade is where mainstream gaming began, and there are plenty of original ports from this era to re-live your youth shoving coins into cabinets. I’d still like to see BubbleBobble make an appearance here to completely satisfy my urges. Release Year: 1978Original Read More
SEGA Releases Streets of Rage for iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 21 Jul 2009 22:45:24 UTC +00:00
If you’re an old-school gamer, you might remember the 16-bit game era where Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis were the only two home consoles of choice.  The battle between the two consoles was fierce, and to this day, a victor has yet to be decided as to who had the better console, Nintendo or SEGA. During that time, SEGA released a side-scrolling beat-em-up in 1991 called ‘Streets of Rage’.  It was one of the console’s best games as there weren’t many beat-em-ups with the amount of detail and overall fun in the home console market.  Thanks to SEGA, iPhone users can now experience the good ole 16-bit days as they released Streets of Rage on the Apple App Store for $4.99. Streets of Rage on the iPhone features the same graphics, characters, and fight moves that we all remember.  As you see from the screenshots, the game features on-screen controls that Read More

A faithful port
Catile 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is pretty much a genesis perfect port but it doesnt deserve a five because it has some slowdown and the controls need to be tighter its still a good game but its a little pricey
Brutal Framerate
jhr_ 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game runs so slow you'd think your on an apple II e and not an iPhone. The game is unplayable
It should have 5 stars. Picky issues as follows:
sschewy 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Nothing is more satisfying than shanking the red women with whips and hearing them scream in 8-bit. However, the music of the game and the sounds get annoying after a while. It is in my opinion that every game on this platform should allow for the ipod music to function during gameplay.. which this game does. What it doesnt have is the feature to toggle game sounds during music.. Since sounds are so infrequent it wouldn't be distracting. The game is also CRAZY slow. I choose one of the faster characters and they just poke along at such an annoying rate. 120-140% speed improvement in characters would be awesome. The arrows which allow you to advance take WAY too long to appear.. they should be like a 1 second delay.. they are more like 5 seconds. Furthermore, my game which was saved temporarily last night was gone this morning.. At these speeds I cannot see myself getting through this until the next time I fly anyway. Fix it!!
Pretty fun! 
Jefufu DunHAM.com 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
If you restart your device after downloading so it goes fast! I like this game, it's really addicting, like  and 
Good port
Raybacca 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I really loved this game on my Genesis back in the day and this plays fairly well, but it does suffer from slow down when things get very hairy. I wonder if it's any better on the 3GS? The Koshiro soundtrack bumps and is just as addicting as it was in 91. It also has one if the best vitual D-pad implementations I've tried so far. My only really gripe is that it feels like it's a buck or two too expensive. I know five bucks isn't alot of money, but you can pick up "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" for $30 and get 40+ games Granted, you can't play that on the train.
Update Please!!!!!
VerbaLee 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This deserves no stars until it is updated for the 3GS. Why was it put in the app store if it does not work like it's supposed to? It goes superslow. Sonic works fine on the 3GS. How come this does not??? Sega??? Hello? I will change my review when they update it. Next time sega please dont put out any more games till they work. And if u do put out anymore games i would like to see NBA Jam or Mortal Kombat. Then all would be forgiven. Peace

Ah, man.. Before I review this app I just have to say that it brings a smile to my face to see Streets of Rage on my iPhone. I can still remember being a 5 year old playing this game with my bro and arguing with him about who gets to be the badass black guy haha. Thanks SEGA. As for my review of this Genesis to iPhone port..... I'm glad to say that it's a pretty good port to the iPhone. Not a great one; a good one. The virtual controller works well and the game runs pretty decent. But even after rebooting the iPhone (which I did right after downloading) the game still has a tendency to slow down--usually when there's quite a few baddies onscreen. It's not a deal-breaker, but it stinks to see it not run smooth throughout. The game is still just as fun as the original though, which is great! Overall the game is a good port and it's great fun to play. Those who've played the original won't be dissappointed; maybe annoyed by slowdown but that's about it. I'm giving it 4/5 stars for being a good port over to the iPhone and being just as fun as the original game. But, I'm giving it a bonus star to make it 5/5 because it brings back to many good memories of my childhood :)
way too slow
GabK 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
this game could be a five if they make it faster, otherwise don't buy. Sega you are better than this

VerbaLee 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The update fixed the slowdown for the 3GS. It works good now but the continue button does not work when u exit the game and come back 2 it. It starts from the beginning like a real Genesis. Sonic at least saves the level. Please update again. Thanx
Great Port!
El Rorro 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The update has finally been released! The major slowdowns have been fixed, though there are really minor slowdowns when a lot of enemies appear on screen, which is natural in older consoles. But now I am completely satisfied with this port, now I can truly enjoy playing the game in its best performance.
Way better

I always played this game when I was younger, but I always played this with a friend. Please add bluetooth and wifi multiplayer, and I will gladly make this game five stars. The gameplay is also a bit slower than the genesis version which dissapoints me. SEGA, please update soon!
A lot of fun
iStogs 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Since the update for the 3GS the game has been smooth and relatively bug free. I realize there have been some mixed reviews but the bottom line is this is a GREAT port of a classic game. Whatever the flaws, it is just as enjoyable as when I was a kid. Highly recommended.

Now if SEGA could release Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3 for the iPhone that would be GOLDEN!!!!

Dominicano19 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The game is great, brings back alot of memories, I bought the updated version and I haven't had any problems, runs just like it on the genesis. Only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 is because no multiplayer and the button layout could of been a little better. Other than that the game is excellent and its just how it was when it came out in 91.
This is the Bomb! Awesome
