While many techies aren’t sports fans (and vice versa), lots of us are enthusiasts of both ones and zeros and X’s and O’s. And for those who are into both football and geekery, tomorrow is kind of like the Super Bowl. Well, technically speaking, I guess tomorrow is like the Super Bowl for everyone. Anyhoo. For everyone looking for some tech to go with their gridiron, there are lots of options. First of all, NBC is streaming the Super Bowl live over the Internet, for those who can’t make it to a television or want a second screen to enjoy even more of the action. ESPN president John Skipper said at D: Dive Into Media that he thinks giving away the game for free is a bad idea, but NBC paid for the rights, so they get to do what ever they want. Verizon is also broadcasting the game live to Read More
App Smart Extra: Super Bowl Apps

Most football fans will be forced to spend at least part of the weekend away from televised Super Bowl coverage. For those not willing to endure that sort of pain, the N.F.L. this week released three apps to help. The Super Bowl XLVI Guide (free on Apple and Android), the Super Bowl XLVI Commemorative App ($3 on Apple and Android) and the Super Bowl XLVI Official NFL Game Program (free for iPad) are, on balance, worth the download – especially if you are a Giants or Patriots fan. The Super Bowl XLVI Guide is probably best for those who will watch the game live, as it includes an interactive map of Indianapolis and the Lucas Oil Stadium and a slate of area events. More interesting for fans watching at home, though, is the “huddle” feature, showing tweets about players and the game. For avid fans who own iPads, the Super Bowl Read More
App Release: Super Bowl XLV Program (with typos?!)

posted by D. St. Charles on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at 5:11 pm.   A week ago I posted a few apps to check out to get geared up for The Big Game. Since then, the NFL has released its official Superbowl XLV program. Okay, it’s already half-time, but it is a pretty nice app, with a few astounding exceptions. The interactive rosters, articles about the Green Bay Packers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Comebacks in the Super Bowls are covered well. The app runs smoothly, particularly given the massive amount of content. But there are a few problems. First, with the library of NFL Films, why is the embedded content from the networks? Secondly, this is a program to accompany probably the most-watched television program to date, backed by billions of dollars, sponsors, staffers – and they have typos – plural? Check after the break for screenshots, including some glaring errors.       Read More

The pre-game has been going on for a few hours already (well, several days, actually). And if you’re reading this post, the chances that you’re a diehard football fan are probably fairly slim — because, let’s be honest, if you were, you’d already be drunk in a bar somewhere. But everyone watches the Super Bowl; diehards and casual fans alike. And the latter might enjoy it more with some apps/websites to help them pass the time. Read More

The TouchArcade Guide to Surviving Super Bowl Sunday
Calendar16 Sun, 06 Feb 2011 17:40:33 UTC +00:00
So, you got roped into hosting  Super Bowl XLV party today and you’re having one of those Edvard Munch “The Scream” moments as you realize the big game is only a few hours away. Serves you right for having that wicked huge studio, that 1080p high-definition TV, and the kind of personality that allows this sort of thing to happen to you. But, hey, I’ll help you help yourself by pointing out a few apps that’ll smooth out some of the party planning wrinkles, educate you on the Packers or Steelers, or just give you a sense of what the hell Super Bowl XLV is all about. THE SEASONThe NFL doesn’t like to put its programming on the App Store until the season is over, so there’s no solid way to play catch-up on the regular NFL season without watching several ESPN or NFL Network pre-Bowl broadcasts. However, you can watch Read More
Super Bowl Sunday – Of Course There Are Apps for That
Calendar16 Sun, 06 Feb 2011 18:10:52 UTC +00:00
It’s Super Bowl Sunday. Packers, Steelers, two formidable, old-school NFL teams going at it for the title. Although they may not be the ideal pair for TV dollars from big city media markets and all that, they’re just about the perfect matchup in terms of hard-nosed, old-school football teams. As a neutral (Cowboys fan) I’m really looking forward to this game. Hopefully this one is going to continue the recent tradition of close, hard-fought Super Bowls. Today we’ll be treated to hours of inane and over-the-top pre-game buildup, tons of attention paid to all the commercials that companies pay zillions of dollars for, and then finally at around 6:30 Eastern the actual game itself. Of course, if you need any help getting into a Super Bowl state of mind, or assistance on your Super Bowl party prep, there are plenty of iPad and iOS apps out there just waiting to suit Read More

I love the videos --like the one in the article called "Guts and Glory"---and the special section on action videos. They are exciting and visually beautiful. Lots of info on players, coaches and strategy. To catch the Big Game in full, add this app and a cold one.
Great app!

Not Taken! 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Did anyone proof read this thing? In the first 10 pages James Harrison is misidentified twice! I know the NFL hates him, but I think this is just sloppy.
Not worth the effort
