Free Today: Super Monkey Ball 2, Kona's Crate, and More
Calendar16 Mon, 24 Oct 2011 19:33:55 UTC +00:00
One dollar seems awfully high for an iPhone game these days, doesn't it? With prices this low, the only thing left to do is give away the entire thing for free. Don't miss out on these amazing downloads-- they're guaranteed for free today, only. Kona's Crate Kona's Crate shows you how to move around heavy objects, witch-doctor style. You have to use a rocket-powered platform to transport crates from one side of the level to another, tapping the sides of the screen to activate each jet individually. It may not have a huge amount of variety, but for free, you'll still get a lot of great levels and a fun physics engine. Our Score: 3 out of 4 Our Bottom Line: Kona’s Crate is a simple and engaging physics-based platformer, but it lacks some of the variety we were hoping for. Sega Running 48 Hour Sale on Select Titles
Calendar16 Fri, 29 Jul 2011 10:00:14 UTC +00:00
Sega is throwing down a random Summer Sale for a selection of their titles over the next 48 hours. The star of this sale is obviously Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Sega’s take on the Mario Kart formula. We absolutely loved the game in our review, and it’s a great deal for its sale price of $1.99. The Super Monkey Ball games are also a nice pickup if you don’t have them already, especially the iPad version which was at one time $15 if you can believe it. Then Sega’s mobile Football Manager game gets its first price cut ever, dropping by 50%. Finally, if you’re a fan of Sega’s Genesis emulators, they have a couple of those for a buck as well. Remember to stay up to date with the roller coaster ride that is App Store pricing by setting up an account with AppShopper.com where you can set up a Read More
Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
SEGA Slashes Prices On The App Store, Too
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Feb 2011 17:48:57 UTC +00:00
OK. So, SEGA is following suit with the other big publishers on the App Store and is now holding its own personal deal-a-thon. Now, until whenever, you can grab around 16 different SEGA games for 80 percent off the usual price or just 99 cents. And we’re not just talking about the pub’s stable of lackluster Genesis ports getting the cut here; those games are part of the deal, for sure, but there’s also a few native gems mixed in. There are too many games to do a meaningful breakdown with, but here’s a list of what’s being offered and the prices of each: Not bad, eh? At this point, I’m not sure if we should say that the entire App Store is up for grabs, but it’s getting close as all these publishers start racing to the bottom. Who knew that Valentine’s Day would be giving us so much this Read More

Select Sega iPhone Games on Sale for a Limited Time
Calendar16 Fri, 08 Oct 2010 08:48:15 UTC +00:00
If you’re like me, and use your iPhone for gaming perhaps just a little too much… Sega has a nifty little deal on right now for a ‘limited time’ (I have a love/hate relationship with these offers… love the deal, can’t stand it when I don’t know the end date!). At any rate, if you’re tired of paying full price for games, you can take a breather and pick up any of the Sega games listed below… for a pretty darn good price: Not bad, not bad at all. Of course, Sega hasn’t dropped any end dates for this pricing, so if any of these titles look appealing to you… I suggest you pop open the App Store right now and get them while the gettin’ is good. Regular pricing on these games sits at $5.99 for the Sonic games and Super Monkey Ball 2, while Phantasy Star II usually prices Read More

If you haven't had a chance to pick up any of these titles before, now is your chance to do so and save a bit of cash in the process. If you’re looking for a bargain inside the App Store, then these Sega games should fit the bill quite nicely!  A wide variety of their popular titles have been dropped by at least 50%, so if you were ever put off by the slightly higher than average pricing of Sega’s apps, then now is the time to buy. Here are the games on offer, complete with their own easy link directly to the App Store: Both Space Harrier 2 and Sega Columns Deluxe remain at $0.99, and Sega’s brand new RPG release, Phantasy Star II,  sits at $2.99.  As usual, let us know if you picked up one of these bargains, and tell us what you thought of it! I was about to embark on a three-and-a-half-hour trek home to Connecticut from Maine after a beach weekend. I had two youngsters in the back seat and, my wife and I would quickly discover, no food. But I had gadgets, and I had apps. And I was about to find out if they could mollify an 8-year-old boy, Luca, and an 11-year-old girl, Juliana, more effectively than snacks. A little preview: if you have a BlackBerry, pack lots of snacks. An Android requires fewer, and an iPhone (or, better yet, an iPad) may completely replace road food, if you choose your apps well. My general philosophy is that staring silently out the window is one of the more rewarding uses of brain power. But when that gets old, the children’s bickering gets loud and you notice that two nearby drivers are engaged in highway texting (for real), philosophy does not help. Read More
iPhone 4 Game Sale Extravaganza

Following EA's lead of their massive 99¢ sale, quite a few other developers are slashing prices in hopes of being on the charts for the influx of new iPhone 4 owners powering up their devices for the first time today or tomorrow and checking out this "App Store" they've heard so much about. We're going to be putting together another "So you just got an iPhone..." post similar to the one we did last year for the launch of the 3GS, but in the meantime you might not want to miss some of these sales as there's no telling how long they will last: Of course there are always tons of sales taking place on the App Store, this is just a short listing of popular games with price drops. From iPhone to iPad: Revisiting Super Monkey Ball 2
Calendar16 Sat, 10 Apr 2010 22:30:00 UTC +00:00
There are a lot of great new apps for the iPad, and there are some terrific old ones that have made the move as well. In "From iPhone to iPad," TUAW will revisit some of our favorite games and utilities that originated on the iPhone, and see how they've transitioned to the larger device. Have they made the most out of the new hardware? Is the application worth a separate re-purchase? After all, you can keep running nearly all of your old software in pixel doubling mode. First up? Super Monkey Ball 2. We first looked at Super Monkey Ball a couple of years ago. My kids and I found the game hard to play, although I did appreciate the graphics. I wasn't alone in my negative SMB assessment. Its sequel, Monkey Ball 2, debuted late last year. It was a worthy follow-on that greatly improved on the original's playability, and Read More

Super Monkey Ball 2
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Dec 2009 13:20:35 UTC +00:00
Super Monkey Ball was one of the first games to be featured on the iPhone. The game was immensely popular because of its focus on the accelerometer and how it showed off what the iPhone and iPod Touch could do. SEGA has finally released their second piece in the series aptly named Super Monkey Ball 2. Although there isn't a crazy amount of noticeable changes, the game has updated its experience where it counts. The controls of this new version are essentially the same but have been refined to give the player much more control and less frustration while tilting. I can personally vouch that the game was much more fluid while playing. The actual visuals of the game look pretty similar although I did notice that the monkeys in the balls we truly three dimensional this time as opposed to the two dimensions they had last time. The game features Read More

The Week's Best iPhone Apps [IPhone Apps]
Calendar16 Sat, 12 Dec 2009 00:40:00 UTC +00:00
In this week's mildly paranoid iPhone app roundup: Prices, slashed for the holidays! iPhones, recklessly tilted! Amazing classic games, handily ported! A decent camera app, sold for nothing! Cheap tickets, booked! Dictations, taken! Movies trivia, two ways! And much, much more... If you hate hate hate galleries, click here to view the apps as a single page. • Google Mobile: This update keeps the app from launching into Safari as much as it used to, and widens its voice capabilities. A minor but useful upgrade. • My Name and Head Shoulders Knees & Toes: I suspect most of you don't reader these roundups to find ways to entertain your children. But if you do, My Name, which will teach your tot how to spell whatever is on his birth certificate, and Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes, which makes a simple touch game out of the children's song, will distract them long Read More

Super Monkey Ball 2 Review: Now THIS Is How Yo Do It SEGA!

**WIN Super Monkey Ball 2 For FREE! Read Below!** SEGA rolls once again onto the App Store, finally showing their potential to make Triple A titles for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Despite the original debuting to much fanfare (thanks to Apple), it just was crippled by bugs and lag issues. Now the team is back to PROVE that they DO know how to make iPhone games. No more issues or lags, new levels and even mini games await! If you’ve bashed SEGA before, you can’t bash them now with Super Monkey Ball 2! Presentation One of the biggest updates to this game is how damn good it looks. The original title had a 3D environment but a 2D character, which for me was a big downer in the game because it just took away the full effect of this game. Finally though this game has gone completely 3D with more Read More

Quick App: Super Monkey Ball 2 for iPhone

By Leanna Lofte, Wednesday, Dec 2, 2009 | The widely popular Super Monkey Ball for iPhone and iPod touch now has a sequel, Super Monkey Ball 2 [$9.99 - iTunes link] – featuring multiplayer! The original Super Monkey Ball was first shown off by SEGA during Apple’s iPhone SDK Roadmap event back in March 2008 and was one of the first games to launch with iPhone 2.0 and the App Store. How does the sequel hold up? In the short time I’ve spent playing, I am very impressed by the graphics, butter-smooth controls, and fun music. Super Monkey Ball 2 includes 115 tracks and one mini-game, Monkey Bowling, with promise of Monkey Golf and Monkey Target in a future upgrade. One of the most exciting new features of Super Monkey Ball 2 is multiplayer mode. Just hop onto a local wifi network and play against as many as 3 friends. Unfortunately, Read More
Super Monkey Ball 2 arrives for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 02 Dec 2009 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Super Monkey Ball 2 [iTunes Link] is now available for the iPhone. There is good news and bad news, and yes, some of it relates to App Store policies which are out of developers' hands. I bought the original Super Monkey Ball [iTunes Link] for US$10 on the first day the App Store was available (July 10, 2008, for those who might some day want to win a trivia contest). I had seen the demo and couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I also bought Bejeweled 2 [iTunes Link] for $10 on that same day. Bejeweled 2 is now selling for $3 and the original Super Monkey Ball is selling for $4. If you ask me, Bejeweled is a steal at the price, and the original version of Super Monkey Ball isn't worth $0.99. It was far too "twitchy" for my taste. I tried everything to steady my hands, Read More

Super Monkey Ball was, of course, one of the most popular games to be announced for the App Store back before the store was online. Unfortunately when it dropped, it was quickly disregarded due to poor control performance. Not willing to give up easily, SEGA has just announced that Super Monkey Ball 2 [App Store, $9.99] has just hit the App Store! The new version comes with 115 new tracks, WiFi multiplayer (no bluetooth?), improved graphics, the addition of mini-games, and improved controls. Super Monkey Ball 2 weighs in at 74.7MB and our friends over at TouchArcade have found that maneuvering has been greatly improved. Actually Enjoyable!!!!

Controls are a big improvement from the first Super Monkey Ball game & it runs really smoothly. Graphics are awsome & this is a must buy!!! At the moment theres only 1 mini game which is a bowling game, which is also really fun to play if you wanna take a break from playing thru the levels. Other than that get it!! A bit expensive but to me its hella worth it. A big relief from playing the 1st dreaded game. P.S. Its about time Sega released a great game to play. Now promise us with your updates & future mini games addition.
Huge Game, Always loved it !!!!!!

Bought this at .99 this morning and all it does is a video mash up screen. Re downloded it...said I already paid. Then the same problem...this time charged me $9.99 more!!! $11 for a non working app!! Beware 3gs people.
A Marked Improvement

While I enjoyed the original and still play it, this one is an improvement over the last. The controls are head and feet above the last one. This are looks just as good as the old one and this game will be getting just as much time as the original.
Those of you with flckering/loading issues: it's because your phone is jb

According to posts on toucharcade, you need to get swapmode from Cydia and switch to game mode an then it will work. Please don't leave misleading one star reviews because of a choice that you made. The game is great so far, a marked improvement over the first release, and monkey target will surely be fantastic.
Great Game!

This game is great, and will keep you entertained for a long time! Basically you dont want to put it down till your finished. Also contains minigames which it appears that SEGA will expand on later on. This is a game that is actually worth the 8$, and SEGA put alot of hard work into this one. Buy it!
LOVE IT!!!

No problems on my 3g touch 64g because mine's not jailbroken!! Runs great-plays great! Some people don't realize the problems they have are because of their own doing and then they leave bad reviews for the dev and the game is FINE!! That's completely IGNORANT!!! But alas, there's lots of dummies out there and there always will be.......
Great game

For those of you complaining about a broken app, do research online and see that it's due to you using a jailbroken device. Don't give 1 star because you decided to jailbreak!!
What the first game should have been

Forget everything you know about the controls from the first Monkey Ball. SMB2 has been redone from the ground up, and is a delight to play. Replay saving, mini games, multiplayer, the ability to actually steer without pulling your hair out — it's all here. If you've been waiting for a proper iPhone/iPod Monkey Ball experience, well, here it is. Now if Sega were to update the original using the control code from this release, my iPod's battery wouldn't stand a chance.
Isn't running for Jailbreak :-(
MrWaffles 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
My jailbroken 32 gb 3GS cannot open the app. It displays the launch screen and then begins flickering madly. Using SwapMode (A jailbreak app, find it in Cydia) makes it run, but is not an ideal solution. I hope that Sega doesn't just ignore the jailbreakers, we don't all steal (unfortunately some of us do).
One of the best.

I never write reviews, but being a monkey ball fan from the gamecube days, I just had to say how awesome this game is. The feel of the game is great and challenging and although some of the levels are slightly repetetive, the game makes up for it with its fast paced action. It has multi player but I have yet to find another person online. The mini games are decent, but aren't meant to keep you entertained for long. Overall, if you enjoyed the first one I found this well worth the price and give it 5/5 stars.
Thank you Sega for the 1.1 update =)

This is a hundred times better than the old one. (if your device is jailbroken it won't work) that's why I don't jailbreak my new ipod.
Great game, works perfectly on my 3GS and 3G

I'm having a blast, and the game is running just fine on both my 3GS and my wife's 3G. Forums are saying the boot issue only is happening on jailbroken phones.
Fun good buy

Loved one and this one is even more awsome thank you sega I'm really enjoying it. Reccomended for everyone !!!!! Guys that have jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch Devices, put the iPod into SafeMode i did it by SB settings and it'll work for sure ! Edit : I still love the game, but didn't like the problem because I have to go into Safe Mode everytime to just play the game and I'm not a real jailbreak supporter I just need it because all of my app don't fix due to the limited page s if Apple will release 3.2 with folder support or at least 24 app pages then I'll totally forget jailbreak.
Awsome
Vermilion4 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was very hesitant to spend $10 because all the reviews said it crahsed, but then again I don't have a hacked iPod. This game is 1000x better than the first. Better graphics, multiplayer, and minigames! I really can't wait for monkey target!!! :D
Great game, Too short
ratbus 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
The game is great, but it is very short... I beat it in less than 2 hours. The controls seem the same, but stopping is easier. All of the levels are too easy.
No
NordstromD 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The game did not work! I am disapointed. The screen was all black.
Very addicting!!:)
Budstunnin 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Sick game used to play it on nintando game cube all the time thx for bringing it to the app store ;)
Pretty good...
themapplestore 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I don't have the screen problem everyone's talking about, but my complaint is that you made this game far too easy! The final level was a freakin' rollercoaster level which required no skill at all! I never saw the Game Over screen, and I beat it in 2 days. The game CAME OUT yesterday!
