Tales2Go 2.0 adds caching, multitasking
Calendar16 Fri, 17 Sep 2010 17:22:45 UTC +00:00
Tales2Go streams nearly 1,300 books and stories and can now cache one for offline listening. One of my favorite apps of 2010 just got a major update. Tales2Go, which provides on-demand access to nearly 1,300 children's audiobooks, updated the app to add multitasking support, story caching for offline listening, new subscription options, and more. Intended for children between the ages of 3 and 11, Tales2Go offers a huge range of listening material--everything from two-minute fables to full-length novels. These aren't just public-domain works, either: you'll find well-known series like "American Girl," "The Boxcar Children," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," and "Encyclopedia Brown." For any given story or chapter you've queued up, the app now downloads and caches it locally. That's a major improvement, as it overcomes the problem of spotty or nonexistent Internet access. Unfortunately, it can do this for only the currently selected title; you can't cache multiple books for, Read More
I know that this is supposed to be an application for kids, but even though I am not one, I totally loved it. Tales2Go also comes under the Education section, but it is pure entertainment too. If listening to stories is not entertaining, then what is? And it is not just any story, but any story of our choice that we want to listen to from among the hundreds of stories included in this application. The range and number of stories is mind-boggling, to say in the least. We can choose which one we want to listen to according to several categories. The Highest Rated and Most Popular categories are always a good place to start with, for the stories there are listed for an obvious reason. Age is also always a good indicator about which story would be apt, so whether we are looking for a story for a young Read More
Tales2Go: Get on-demand audiobooks for children
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Feb 2010 17:44:00 UTC +00:00
Tales2Go offers a variety of short stories and full-length audiobooks. Hey, fellow parents. Sick to death of the kids' "Wiggles" CDs? Exhausted the library's "Magic Tree House" collection? Do I have an app for you: Tales2Go provides on-demand access to nearly 900 children's stories. It's my single favorite app of 2010 (so far). The Tales2Go collection includes works from a variety of audio publishers, including Audio Bookshelf and Recorded Books. A Tales2Go representative told me a couple "major" new publishers will collectively add about 80 more titles to the library in coming weeks. The app provides countless ways to peruse the catalog, starting with highest rated and most popular playlists. You can also browse by age group, story type, narrators (a few recognizable names, including Catherine O'Hara and Tom Bosley), character and series, and grade level. The collection includes everything from two-minute fables to six-hour novels, with just about everything in Read More

Tons of educational and entertaining stories! Kids liked listening. Easy to use. Lots of value here. I think subscription price is very reasonable given the savings of not buying CDs. Definetely recommend trying this one out. No-brainer!

My children (and I!) love the variety of stories available on Tales2Go. We have listened to it in the car and at home. We have only had it for two days and they have listened to five stories! We are definitely getting our money's worth. Our new favorite app!
