...flat file database! I have been waiting for this app to come out. I am hoping it will take the place of several other apps that I currently use for passwords and note-taking NOTE TO IPHONE DEVELOPERS: Hear me now and listen to me later; if you wish to charge me for an app, fine. I want to support any and all efforts at developing this amazing new tool!! I will buy anything, b/c I am very interested in how far developers can push the outside of the envelope. But I keep only 35% of the apps I download. Further and most importantly I use only about 10% of the apps on a daily basis. If you want me to download an app then: 1)make sure the app fills a need 2)try to design a seamless interface, like Stanza or this app. 3) as much as possible make it crash-proof and idiot proof. I dislike the effort needed for the former and I often resemble the latter. 4) size matters, but in the inverse. I don't to wait 15 or 20 minutes for an app to download, even with a fast wifi connection. Under 100kb is great, under 10mb is acceptable and greater than 45 or 50mb is borderline criminal and subject to prosecution.... 5) Don't add fake reviews, or have friends add fake reviews touting the amazing benefits of your program. And don't belittle the reputation of your competitors by stating "this app is way better than App X because the developer of App X contributes to global warming and he was the second shooter on the hill in Dallas...." 6)Don't offer upgrades unless you are fixing a bug or SIGNIFICANTLY adding to the program's appeal 7)When you do update, remind people to hard-boot their iPhones after downloading but before running the app. Power button on top and round button with the white square on bottom center. Hold together for about ten seconds until you see the apple logo again....

I bought this app because I needed a way to organize contacts within my accounts (main contacts). I really like the way this app allows a complete customization of new forms to act as a flat-file database. The pre-made samples are also a nice touch. I think in a very short period of time, this app will replace a number of smaller apps already on my device. So far no crashes or major issues. I highly recommend this app for the following users:

This 1.0 release shows a lot of promise. Personally I have not had the speed or crash issues reported in some reviews, but I have listed some pros and cons for the initial release. I have most every database-type app in the Store. This one appears to be the most promising in terms of features and design. Pros: 1.Professionally designed, it's a big step up from the IdB Pro program I also purchased. 2.Useful variety of sample forms you can customize with additional fields, unlike some other canned databases that offer limited options. 3.Responsive developer who read and answered my questions prior to purchase. Cons: 1.needs import capability, and enhanced export options, (currently limited to emailing individual records). This program works well enough that you want your data safe, especially if it has to be entered slowly through the touch interface. I gather there is a solution in the works. 2. Some missing data types, such as pick lists or or multi-choice radio buttons , date with time and a URL or email field that's clickable. I have seen these in another App, so I know it's possible. Here's an idea: how about permitting a field to reference other records in the database, in much the same way you can reference a Contact? 3. Reorder fields on the entry form, and choose the displayed order or disable display of specific fields on the summary. 4. Enhanced reporting -Existing search is okay, but it's global. Logical searches, filtering, sort-by and group-by would be great. Overall, I'm impressed and looking forward to seeing this App develop!

WHO NEEDS THIS APP: Anyone with information that needs: organizing; to be kept secure; to be accessed easily; presented well; and backed-up. IS IT WORTH IT?:This app is well worth the cost. It is very customizable and has so much potential to be whatever you need it to be. Extremely easy to use. BUG? DRAWBACKS? It was crashing for me at first and I have been in contact with the developer and this is what I have found: Brendan is very responsive to bugs, is continuing to work on the app, and has plans to roll out future synchronization. This makes me confident in my purchase decision. Great job!

I've been looking for an app like this since the App Store first opened. My only problem is that it seems to slow down a lot and frequetly crashes. I really want to use this app more often, but the crashing is too much to take for now.

I normally don't write to developers, however I have to make an exception with TapForms. Since I moved my apps and other data from my [old] Palm Tungsten to my iPod Touch, I've made it an invaluable part of my day. That said, I looked around for a database type program to handle some of my Palm apps which I wrote (palm os freeware). Anyway, I bought several DB programs prior to TapForms only to be disappointed by their inflexible treament of DBs or their complexity (users just wanted a swingset, they built an amusement park).

The capabilities and uses of this are way beyond what you might expect by reading the developer's description. He is selling himself short. There is an endless number of different forms that could be created. For example, I created a form for my construction inspector employees to use - they fill it out on their inspections then immediately e-mail it back to me. Perfect! For me, the biggest downside in using the iPhone for forms is text entry. The more options that we have for field types the better it is. For example, please add the following types: pick from list, yes/no, and phone number. It would also be nice to be able to send a form template to another user so that we don't have to recreate the form on every single phone - this is the biggest limitation that is keeping me from purchasing the application for all my employees. Also, my dream would be that the developer would incorporate ShapeWriter's keyboard and/or the handwriting recognition of Phatnotes. Being able to send a completed form by e-mail that is nicely formated in a PDF file would be great (the plain text email is functional, but just plain ugly). Also, the photo field type is a great idea that the developer offers, but the photos are not attached to the email when you send out a completed form. Please consider incorporating some or all of these ideas. The program is very intuitive and has a great user interface. It has not crashed on me even once.

This app is very usefull. Having the ability to put voice notes and photos into what is essentially a database record is an outstanding feature. The fact that the Forms can be uniquely designed by the user makes this app very powerful. I have only just begun to use it but I believe it may well be the most usefull app I have on my iPhone after I learn the best way to design the forms. I highly, highly, recommend this app!

This app is just what I have been waiting for. It is worth every penny. I love that I can create my own forms and store whatever I need to.

The app looks great and lots of samples to get started, but when switching back and forth between text entry and the view panes, the app slows down tremendously and crashes. Not sure if this is apple or the developer but it is annoying.

I was almost going to give this a 2 or 1 star rating because the program kept crashing time and time again. Then I decided to ACTUALLY READ what I was supposed to....DON'T DELETE THE SAMPLE FORM until the 1.0.1 fix coming soon. duh! This is a handy little program that I will most likely use daily. Thanks for the good work, I really enjoy this one.

I have been looking for a handheld database that was elegant, flexible, and reasonably powerful. This is it.

In my earlier review I forgot two other features I believe this app needs to make it 5-star. 1) the ability to filter lists; 2) the ability to sort by fields other than the first. Some simple query functions would be nice.

Best app for me, it is a life saver. Can't wait to see new updates!

I wasn't too sure if to buy it or not. But after I did man I was cool with this app. It just was a little weird to get a hand off but once u use it a couple of times u understand. It's great. It does exactly what it says it does.

This PIM has ton of premade forms to store your data any of which you can alter as you wish. Data can be passcode protected. Form data can be emailed. One Caution, be sure to duplicate a form before you alter it. One wish, a way to get info from your Mac/PC into it without having to type it all. Also it's a bit pricey but you do get a lot for your money.

This app is totally worth the $9 and is definitely the best database available for the iPhone. It launches with reasonable speed, runs well and is very easy to use–once you familiarize yourself with the weird idiosyncrasies of the interface. That is the one place where it falls flat: they could definitely stand to make the workflow a little smoother/more sensible. It took me a while to figure out that when you add a new form and you've finished adding all the fields to it, you have to go back to the form list and select the form before you can start adding records. Because there's no "save" button, it's not at all clear what you're supposed to do. The app also suffers from the fact that every time you want to enter information into a textbox, it takes you to a dedicated screen where you have to type the text and then hit save... in a lot of cases, it could just pop up a keyboard on the main form screen and let me type directly into the box. It also adds a lot of extra clicks that really slow down data entry. The ability to add custom pick lists seems kind of hidden away... I used this app for over an hour before I discovered the feature in the "Tools" section... seems like something I should be able to do while creating my form (and that should be specific to each form, in same cases). I know this sounds like a lot of gripes, but really this program is very nice... with a little more work it could be perfect! Also, despite a very nice list of icons to represent each form, I'd love more, more, more! Passcode lock is nice; haven't tried the backup feature yet but it sounds good in theory.

Since I ditched my old Palm for a shiny iPod Touch, I've been looking for an affordable solution to my old, discontinued FileMaker Mobile. I used this to add new records while on the move that I could sync back to my desktop database. After looking into the options, I tried out Tap Forms. I've been thoroughly impressed. It's got an elegant, intuitive interface and it's slick to use. It's so much more user friendly than my geriatric FileMaker Mobile that the two are hardly comparable. I've since added many hundreds of rows into five forms, the largest with over 50 columns, and I've easily emailed the forms back to myself as csv files for importing into my desktop FileMaker databases. If you can live without the desktop database syncing of FileMaker Mobile (or FMTouch), I thoroughly recommend Tap Forms. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a power database, and I've made some suggestions for added features on their website (e.g., importable pick lists and simple relationships between forms would be useful). However, at this price point, you're getting a whole lot of mobile databasing goodness for your money, so it's five stars from me.

Now this is an awesome app. You can completely customize any kind of form. You can password-protect. It's got a great UI - very easy to use; looks good. AND it's been totally stable on my 3G.

Tapfroms works great! It's a flat file database that is very easy to use, but surprisingly versatile. I plan to use Tapforms for storage of passwords, keep information about frequent flier numbers, insurance information, listing of wineries and wines and countless other things. There are a couple of drawbacks that resulted in a rating of 4 rather than 5 stars, but the developer has said that he's working on them. The primary drawback is the inability to import or sync. Without an import/sync feature, it takes forever to input data because of the iPhone/iPod Touch keyboard. The major missing field type is the ability to select from a list -- this is also important because of the keyboard limitation. The ability to link to a record in another form would make the program extremely powerful. I like this program a lot.

- Export doesn't work. The CVS files must be edited by hand to import into excel correctly.

As I sent by email, I would really like to see something included that would enable a user to "mark" an entry. I used the app to make a form that I can use while conducting inspections while at work. I soon noticed however, that there was no way to indicate if an inspection had been completed or not. Maybe and option to put a check mark next to the entry or somthing. In addition, I would like the option to change the order of the entries between alphabetic OR order of entry.

Great app overall but almost all of my frequent flyer numbers are a combination of letters and numbers. Tap Forms only accepts numeric frequent flyer accounts. Hopefully you are working on this.

First off great program. One of the absolute best utilities I've put on my iPhone. There is room for improvement in some areas, better backup/computer interface is one example. Another that I actually care more about is having better built-in browsing. The ability to click on a web link in a record and have it open up right in Tap Forms is merely novel without being able to go back and forth between the web page and the record. For instance, say I need to fill out multiple fields on a web site, all with information I have in a record. Without having keep all the information in my head while I open the page and enter the data, I would need to write it all down on a scrap of paper and then proceed to the page. Holding the page in the iPhone's memory while I go back to the record would be ideal.

I really like the application itself. It was well structured, and very stable. But the export and backup features belong in DOS. The setup process is convoluted, involve 3rd party software (which I spend an hour trying to configure), and simply too involved to be worth the trouble. Yes, one can email the back too, but all it does is dump the data as text into an email. Now what? There are other applications on iTunes that manage a seemless backup or export process, so I know that they do exist (iOwn is one of them). This one isn't it. I'm sure that the smarter people here did just that, and I can't fault them for their success. But for me, and the hour that I lost, it was not a Mac moment I want to remember.

Great app. It does exactly what it claims to do, store your important information, and it does so with a clean, compact interface.

I had purchased the 1.6 version last week and have now gotten the update (free - thank you I think) of 1.7. PLEASE BE AWARE that when I try to import files using this application that my email account STOPS WORKING! I have no ideal of how this could be BUT I have reset my email account for the third time today and decided to "test" my theory that it was this application that was causing the problem. Sure enough when I tried to Import Files, my email account dumped and I am not able to send emails out. Can still get emails in but can't send them. Weird. Not sure but I'll reset my email account again and wouldn't try to import any file through this application and if I can continue to send and receive emails than it has to be something this application is doing.

I just bought this a couple of days ago..... waiting patiently for Apple to get their 'stuff' together and put version 1.5 on the app store.... in its current version (1.0), it has a great UI, and is very useful for data that is fairly flat - which describes 95% of the data I want to carry with me..... with the 1.5 update, this will be an awesome database.

I didn't have much expectations at first. But when i tried it, Iwas like wow. So many features inside this small app.

Highly recommend this app. I use for my work and personal life. Very customizable that why like it very much. I use to store everyones network logins, password, computer name and for personal I store my car insurance, plate #, health insurance my personal websites logins too. On of my top 5 daily use app on my iPhone. :)

I needed this app. I'm gathering data on my feet, not at a desk. I inspect large dangerous things. When I gather engineering data it better be accurate and accessible. Inaccurate or missed can result in catastropic failure down the line. I need the right tool for the job. Hats off to the author of Tapforms!
