Apple's All-Time Top 10 Paid iPhone Apps
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 22:40:36 UTC +00:00
Looking for some great paid Apps? We've already looked at the good free stuff. As we mentioned with those free applications, with everything the App market has to offer, it's hard to find stuff that's worth your time. With paid Apps, not only do you want the download to be worth your time, you want it to be worth your money. Yeah, 99 cents is almost nothing, but it adds up, especially when there are a lot of junk apps out there.   Let's take a look at the stuff that gets more attention:     1) Doodle Jump – 99 cents The App description even makes sure to remind us that it's the all-time top paid iPhone App in the US App Store. We are sure they are pretty happy about that (We'd be just as thrilled). It's a simple little game in which you play that little doodle Read More
Voices that Matter iPhone: "From iPhone to iPad" panel
Calendar16 Tue, 27 Apr 2010 16:00:00 UTC +00:00
To end the first day of the Voices that Matter iPhone conference in Seattle last weekend, a group of veteran iPhone developers sat down for a roundtable panel and talked about the iPad. August Trometer (Yowza!!), Brent Simmons (NetNewsWire), Kyle Kinkade (Tap Tap Revenge), Daniel Pasco of Black Pixel, Tim Wood of The Omni Group, and TUAW's own Erica Sadun were questioned by moderator Chuck Toporek about the differences between the iPhone and the iPad and a few of the pressing issues that both devices are likely to face in the future. Even though the panel ended the day (and all of the attendees and panelists were craving the eventual beer and pizza that would be available later in the evening), it was a lively discussion that offered both insight and frank opinions from these developers. Published: December 31, 2009 Comment         Welcome to the TouchGen Awards, where we honour the best games that the AppStore offered up to us in 2009. Around this time it’s common for game sites such as ours, to look back through the past year and highlight the best of the best games we’ve played. We have narrowed them down to the following categories and highlighted five of the best in each, and from that picked a winner and runner-up… So without further ado, here are our picks of 2009. September 11th, 2009 James Isabel Tapulous’ Tap Tap Revenge has been and still is one of the most successful iPhone applications to this day. They just announced Riddim Ribbon the other day, and now they’re back again. We present you their latest exclusive theme + download Megan Fox‘s Jennifer’s Body themed New Perspective by Panic! With her arrival to the iPhone (through a movie tie in of course), we really just HAD TO COVER it! Downloading iMegan Fox Open up Tap Tap Revenge 2 (which is FREE). AppAward Winners: Gaming Perspective
Calendar16 Mon, 27 Jul 2009 18:22:03 UTC +00:00
With a week gone by since the AppAwards it has given me time to reflect on the winners of all the game categories. Games truly make the App Store since they’re the most populous category, and the area we spend most of our money. Over the past year thousands of developers have flocked to the amazingly unique platform that is the iPhone. It was only obvious that a game is the App of the Year, it was just a question of which one. Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid is the best game I’ve played on the iPhone. When voting for it, it was like voting for the Rolando series which is the golden standard in iPhone gaming. Rolando 2 is the only game to have amazing graphics and sounds, engaging gameplay, great online connectivity, and to spend a considerable amount of time. Rolando exemplifies iPhone gaming, and sets it Read More
Tapulous Celebrates 1 Year TTR And Michael Jackson
Calendar16 Mon, 13 Jul 2009 23:34:42 UTC +00:00
July 13th, 2009 James Isabel Tapulous celebrates Tap Tap Revenge’s (VERY successful) first year with free iPod Touch‘s and a tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! As you may be very well aware of, Michael Jackson has passed June 25, 2009. I personally would have wanted to do a tribute post on the site but have NEVER found an appropriate and iPhone gaming related news to associate it with. Tapulous has now given me that chance with a totally FREE Jackson 5′s ABC song and skin playable with Tap Tap Revenge 2 (Download: Free!). No matter the disagreements are in regards to Michael’s private life, it is without question the man has left MUCH music legacy in this world. Heck, the new generation’s music favorites would have not existed if not for the fact that they transcended from Michael’s music. Tribute I know that our site’s demo is mostly Read More
Hidden Gems: 3.0 Apps To Download, Wait For Or Avoid
Calendar16 Wed, 24 Jun 2009 20:00:42 UTC +00:00
The iPhone OS 3.0 apps have been trickling out slowly but surely. I’ve been trolling the RSS feeds, the App Store, Twitter and the Internet non-stop for the past week to keep our Peer To Peer, Push Notification and Mapping Applists completely up to date. Some of the new apps and app updates have been impressive. Others, not so much. This week I’m going to take a bit of a departure from the typical hidden gems format and give you a rundown of what’s hot, what’s not and what’s still in the offing for OS 3.0 apps. For days after iPhone OS 3.0′s debut we wondered where the Push Notification chat applications were. Instead of Meebo, AIM, BeejiveIM and IM+, we were treated instead to interesting but unsatisfying offerings like AP Mobile, Tap Tap Revenge, Star Defense and a handful of others. Sure it’s cool that AP Mobile sends you breaking Read More
iPhone 3.0 Games Starting to Appear
Calendar16 Wed, 17 Jun 2009 04:33:42 UTC +00:00
With iPhone 3.0 on the verge of being released, you'll be interested to know that the first 3.0-ready apps have already started trickling into the App Store. Apple's iPhone 3.0 firmware will be officially released on Wednesday, June 17th. The update is free for iPhone owners and will cost $9.95 for iPod Touch owners. The 3.0 update introduces a number of interesting features that will be applicable to iPhone gaming. We'll provide further updates with notable iPhone 3.0 supporting games over the next few weeks. All these games will continue to support the older firmwares, of course, but the new 3.0-specific features will not be available to those users. Hello, i'm an indie developer and my new game Blocks Hurt! is now available for iPhone/iPod Touch. If you wanna play something REALLY DIFFERENT, you should definitely give it a try! BLOCKS HURT! iPhone Push Notification waiting in the wings
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Jun 2009 23:58:00 UTC +00:00
Apple recently sent out an e-mail to developers testing the latest iPhone OS 3.0 software. Apple wants to put the Push Notification system through one last stress test before releasing OS 3.0 to consumers on June 17. The app picked for this second test was the AOL AIM $2.99 instant messaging application. (Previously, Apple tested the Associated Press application, AP Mobile Free.) We assume that Apple chose news and instant messaging apps because these applications will be using Push Notification the most. Push Notification is a system Apple developed to work around the fact that Apple does not allow third-party apps to run in the background on the iPhone. (We first wrote about Push Notification last year when it was announced at WWDC. You can see a video about Push Notification here.) Multitasking--or running apps in the background--caused security problems, according to Apple, and negatively impacts battery life. Although there are Read More
While the various news outlets of the web may have gotten readers a bit too ecstatic when hyping out the iPhone 5, truth is, there was no iPhone 5 come Apple’s annual press conference. One source says that next year’s iPhone, unofficially and presumably dubbed iPhone 5, will be a It seems that Apple decided to go ahead and give the go to iOS 5.0.1 earlier than we had initially thought. Releasing today, the update brings along multiple new minor features, the most significant, however, being the highly anticipated iPhone 4S battery patch. You’ll first dive into Junk Jack without a clue of what you’re supposed to be doing – running around, tapping on random blocks. Then when night falls, the monsters devour you, and by this time you’re frustrated. Even with the gorgeous pixel aesthetic, innovative controls that no other developer has I think that this product is truly great, Read More
Tapulous has issued an update to their Tap Tap Revenge rhythm game which includes working push notifications, despite the fact that iPhone OS 3.0 isn’t officially available for two more days. It certainly isn’t the most creative use of background notifications (the messages only pop up when you’re challenged by another player), and we’re already wondering how, when all kinds of apps have this capability, the iPhone’s exceedingly simple notification system will scale at some point. OS 3.0 users can give the free app a try now, but keep in mind that we’ll probably see more than a few push-equipped apps rolling out in the next few days, as we’d imagine Apple will want to have a few high-profile 3.0-capable downloads available at launch to show off the new capability. We’ll report new apps that use this as they’re released/updated. Posted on Jun 15th, 2009 by Maggie Mills in iPhone Apps Read More
OS 3.0 compatible apps already trickling in
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Jun 2009 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
Some of our readers have informed us that Tap Tap Revenge (iTunes store link) has been updated to version 2.6, boasting compatiblity with iPhone OS 3.0. This is most likely merely the first of many apps that will see updates in the coming weeks, but it's interesting that Tapulous has unleashed this update so far in advance of OS 3.0's release. If you are running OS 3.0, upon launching the new version of Tap Tap it will ask you for permission to send push notifications to your device. If you allow them, a new category called Notifications will appear in your device's main settings, which will allow you to toggle push notifications on or off. Additionally, it appears that each app will have individual settings for badges and alerts. It's not likely that Tapulous will be sending any push notifications just yet, as Apple has yet to throw the novelty-sized Frankenstein Read More
Are You Ready For Push Notifications? Tap Tap Revenge Is
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Jun 2009 14:06:37 UTC +00:00
iPhone OS 3.0 won’t be available to everyone until June 17th, but that hasn’t stopped Tapulous from releasing an updated version of Tap Tap Revenge that takes advantage of the new push notification feature. In the new version of Tap Tap Revenge, a badge will appear when you have been challenged by another player: Support for Push Notifications on iPhone OS 3! Tap Tap’s icon on the Springboard will be badged with an unread count for new feed items. SMS-style alerts will arrive when you’re challenged to a game by your friends. It may not be the most creative use of push notifications, but hey, you have to start somewhere. Expect to see quite a few more apps being updated with the ability to receive push notifications before the new OS is even available. Embedded below is a somewhat blurry but useful demonstration of the feature in action. Read More

Tap Tap Revenge Debuts Push Notification in App Store
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Jun 2009 11:31:56 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Monday, Jun 15, 2009 | 9to5Mac (via Gizmodo) shows Push Notification already working in the latest version of Tap Rap Revenge [Free - iTunes link] when run on the iPhone 3.0 GM developer seed. Gizmodo, of course, raises the pertinent question: It certainly isn’t the most creative use of background notifications—the messages only pop up when you’re challenged by another player—and I’m already wondering how, when all kinds of apps have this capability, the iPhone’s exceedingly simple notification system will scale. Since Text Alerts don’t tack, a new one obliterates the one before it. What happens when an urgent IM is replaced by “Hey, dooooooode, can haz rock out?!” Sure, badges remain, but then you have to go looking for them… Read More

Apple and AT&T Preparing for iPhone 3.0 Launch
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Jun 2009 09:55:27 UTC +00:00
Apple and AT&T have been making preparations for the launch of iPhone firmware 3.0. Here is a compilation of the changes and preparations that have been noted: - The new MobileMe Find My iPhone feature has been live this past week. - Push Notification support is beginning to appear in the App Store. Tap Tap Revenge [App Store] specifically has been updated to provide push notifications. - The iPhone 3G S Firmware 3.0 has already appeared on Apple's servers. This firmware is specifically for the new iPhone 3G S (iPhone2,1) so is not recommended to be installed on older iPhones. - AT&T has posted a FAQ (PDF) about the iPhone 3G S and comments on MMS and tethering: Later this summer, as part of the 3.0 software, AT&T will make multimedia messaging (MMS) available at no extra cost to customers with a text messaging bundle. And, in the future, AT&T will Read More
The iPhone 3G S and OS 3.0 introduce a raft of updates to the device, representing another leap ahead of the competition. We spoke to three App Store developers to find out what to expect in the coming weeks. The new device, iPhone 3G S, stays with the form-factor of its predecessor but squeezes in more raw processing power, greater storage, and even a compass. The updated software, OS 3.0, introduces an array of new features, including in-app purchasing, push notification, and device access — meaning greater integration with third-party peripherals, such as Tom Tom’s GPS navigation dock. With so much potential packed into the new device and OS, it’s important to find out which new features the app developers will be focusing on in the coming months, and what this will mean for iPhone users. Tapulous is one of the App Store’s shining stars. Its flagship game, Tap Tap Revenge, Read More
TUAW at E3: Guitar Rock Tour 2 and DJ Mix Tour
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Jun 2009 06:00:00 UTC +00:00
While we really liked Gameloft's Castle of Magic at E3, these two music games in their lineup didn't impress nearly as much. is a sequel to Guitar Rock Tour, and as you can tell from the picture at right, it's more or less a Guitar Hero knock-off: hit the notes as they pass the line at the bottom, and you'll hear whatever song you choose to play. At this point, gameplay on all of these games is more or less the same, so song selection makes the difference, and that's where falls short: the game contains only four original tracks, and fifteen covers. While they do lay claim to tracks by Judas Priest, Panic at the Disco, Wolfmother, Placebo and Twisted Sister, Tapulous pretty much has the market covered in terms of getting great music playable on the iPhone, and we didn't see anything during our hands on that would attract Read More
BeatRider Touch Allows You To Play Your Own Music
Calendar16 Fri, 29 May 2009 20:23:16 UTC +00:00
I can honestly say I have been wanting a game like BeatRider Touch ever since I played the first Guitar Hero.  The idea of being able to play your own music, the music that you love to hear, is just fantastic.  Thanks to the team at TheMusic Co., it is now possible on your iPhone and iPod touch. BeatRider is a rhythm game just like Tap Tap Revenge, where you tap the screen as the notes go flying by.  The biggest difference between the two games is that BeatRider allows you to play your very own music. BeatRider contains 4 preinstalled basic tunes along with 1 training tune, which will help you get a feel for the game before you try the good stuff.  BeatRider allows you to save up to 20 of your own songs onto your iPhone or iPod touch to play on or offline. Truly Fantastic
vthewise 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Tap Tap Revenge was great, yet glitchy. Tap Tap Revenge 2 is great, and NOT glitchy! It has a more futuristic feel to the game, due to the space skin during gameplay. It has a lot more songs, but missing some of my favorite songs from the original like Stone in my hand and love don't live here anymore. Overall great game, and it's free, and it still has ads.
A true sequel to an already great game.
ChocolatePacman 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Tap tap revenge 2 is the first game made by tapulous on their new game engine that is free to the public. It's a sequel to an already much beloved and popular game for the iPod touch. For a developer to try to exceed the power and fun of the original tap tap revenge is quite a bold thing to attempt and Tapulous doesn't just match their original creation, they blow it away. The first major thing you will notice about ttr2 is its new interface that users will find is east to navigate through and a step above the old one. The real overhaul is in the gameplay. Multi tap, tap hold, and a brand new graphical interface make a new experience that most will fall in love with. But to the unfortunate people who have only one finger or can't adapt to the fast paced gameplay will be better suited to sticking with the first. The game is cursed with a bug that can cause it to crash and in some rare cases will cause your iPod to freeze up. The fact that this problem can be fixed by a simple update makes this only a slight problem. The music is .... There is alot of it!!! So what if your favorite band isn't in the default roster. The promise of a new song every Thursday eliminates any complain I have. So, the question is whether or not you should buy it. The truth is, after giving it a try, even if this game was ten, even fifteen bucks, I would have bought it. Tapulous must be looking for fan satisfaction beyond belief because they are giving this game to you free. Great gameplay, great fun, decent music with the promise of more to come every week, and its FREE!!! The only reason you shouldn't get this game is if you hate fun or giving your fingers the fun they deserve. GET THIS GAME before they realize that they could charge for it and people would still keep downloading it.
Angry!
connnnnner 2.0 stars Version: 2.0

I love everything about it but it sometimes stops and exist to the main menu when I'm done with only one level in career mode or when I click on career. :(
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!
Musicdude247 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Brief summary: Froze my iPod for 10 minutes. Don't waste your time downloading it. Get TTR 1 instead. In full: I saw this app on App Sniper and got excited because I liked and already had Tap Tap Revenge 1. Then, when I tried to play a song I had downloaded (this same song worked fine in TTR 1), it completely froze my iPod. Also has bad graphics. Get TTR 1 instead.
I love IT
Loove 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Oh! It so fun! And its free!!!
much smoother than ttr1
Mastajb11 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
smoother playing but very hard to play with ony thumbs and the background is kinda annoying. if you like the first, get this one.
One of the Best!
paperclip533 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
As a fan of the Rock Band/Guitar Hero series, I've stumbled upon this game. I downloaded the original Tap Tap Revenge, and I found it mediocre. The songs were fairly easy to play if you can do Expert on Rock Band, but playing Extreme songs on this game is so challenging. It requires you to use three fingers, instead of the traditional 2. The graphics are nice, it's pretty nice eye candy compared to TTR. The "Star Power" is easier to see in this version so it doesn't strain your eyes as much. Sure, there are the occassional crashes and weird Internet issues, but those can be fixed. I found this game to be great for its game play and graphics. A must have for Rock Band/Guitar Hero players.
AMAZING APP A MUST HAVE

Just finished an update to MuvAudio and saw that this was released. My day now officially rocks and it's only 1:43 AM. The graphics are sweet, the music rocks, now I just need to go to work so we can have some 2 player mayhem. Thank you Tapulous!
One problem

UPDATE x3: Still The Best on the App Store
agillrules 5.0 stars Version: 2.6.2
If you were to only download one app from the App Store, it should definitely be TTR2. I just said it; TTR2 is the single best app available on the App Store. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; Tap Tap Revenge 2 is the single best game and app overall available on the App Store. Period. While other games get boring quickly, TTR features weekly updates that keep you interested. Combine killer music from the best artists, perfect on screen controls and the most engaging scoring and gameplay system out there, and you've got a winning combination. That's Tap Tap Revenge. Keep up the great work bringing the best music to the App Store in a really sick way. I know that music rights are difficult to obtain, but it would be dope to see these songs/artists on TTR. MUSIC SUGGESTIONS: *Kids / MGMT *Tom Sawyer / Rush *Gotta Be Somebody / Nickelback *Have A Nice Day / Bon Jovi *Billie Jean / Michael Jackson *Into the Night / Santana ft. C. Kroeger *Smooth / Santana ft. Rob *Any Way You Want It / Journey *Aerosmith *Metallica *Van Halen And finally, KISS. Gene Simmons would probably make a deal with you in seconds. In addition to music suggestions, I have a number of feature suggestions that I hope will make their way into TTR3. *P2P WiFi Multiplayer: I hate to say it, but the two-player multiplayer is pretty outdated and difficult to use. It would be nice to see a well-executed, WiFi multiplayer for up to eight players. *In-App Premium Music Store: It would be cool to see a variety of new artists and albums available on TTR. I'd like them to keep a free, weekly track, but in addition, I'd like to see a music store where you can purchase full albums and additional songs from similar and different artists. Imagine the possibilities. Charge no more than $0.99 and keep adding great, premium music within the app. *Countdown After a Pause: Countdown from 3 after a pause to make it easier to jump right back into the game. *Scan Your Music: Think of how cool it would be if TTR scanned your iPod/iPhone's music for TTR tracks available for your songs. In addition, this would be a new opportunity to see what people are listening to (and what types of new music should be added to TTR).
