'Spellsword' Review - Arena Combat Goes RPG
Calendar16 Mon, 30 Apr 2012 19:02:28 UTC +00:00
If there's anything that could completely wreck my plans and productivity, it would be a Super Crate Box [$1.99] RPG. I'd say a quick prayer of thanks to Vlambeer for not going forward with that idea, but it's too late. FireFruitForge and Everplay Interactive have something against letting me work in peace, I guess, because Spellsword [$0.99] is that perfect storm of quick, one-more-try gameplay and RPG mechanics I can completely lose myself in. Spellsword isn't a clone of Super Crate Box (thankfully—Vlambeer really could use a break), but it has a similar starting point. It's an arena game that's designed around rapidly collecting weapon spawns to kill baddies. But where Super Crate Box focuses tightly on that mechanic to the exclusion of everything else, Spellsword takes a more expansive road. Along that road you're going to find levelling, loot, and a lot of new ways to play. As a result, Read More
is reminiscent of classic 2D platformers that require the player to navigate from one side of the map to the other while collecting items used to unlock levels and additional worlds along the way. Staying alive as you kill enemies and find secret collectibles is both addicting and challenging. You then spend these items on unlocking bonus levels or new worlds. This game has great replay value because of the three unique difficulty levels and multiple collectibles that keep gameplay interesting. The game has you playing as Allen, the incarnation of a "small nightmare", but he isn't as scary as the ones that keep you up at night. You guide Allen through the levels with different items and abilities, trying to collect everything you can. The pixel art graphics and music here are notable, especially the layered backgrounds that blend with the environment. Each world looks and sounds better than the Read More

iCade: der Mini-Arcade-Automat für das iPad (+ Video)
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 08:06:37 UTC +00:00

Justin Smith from Captain Games is probably most widely known for sparking off the Enviro-Bear 2010 phenomenon of 2009. The world’s first bear driving a car simulator made a huge splash on the App Store, and proved that beyond the surface of MS Paint quality visuals and purposely awkward control schemes could lie a surprising amount of depth and replay value. Also, you play as a bear driving a car through a forest. Not every video game lets you do that. Those same principles of low-fidelity visuals, unwieldy controls, and high playability carried through to his next iOS release So Long, Oregon! [$1.99], and they are ever-present in his latest bit of zaniness know as Justin Smith’s Realistic Summer Sports Simulator [99¢]. Don’t let the ironic title fool you, there is absolutely nothing realistic about Summer Sports Simulator. In fact, it’s greatest attraction is just how NOT realistic it portrays the Read More

+ Universal App $2.99 Our Review By Rob Rich on December 21st, 2011 Rating: :: DREAM WALKIN' Help an adorable nightmare realize his frightening potential in this beautiful platformer. Developer: Price: $2.99 Version: 1.0 App Reviewed on: iPhone 3GS Graphics / Sound User Interface Gameplay Re-use / Replay Value Overall Rating: Poor little Allen. Life’s tough for a nightmare that’s more “Aaaaaaawwwwww…” than “AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa!!!!,” and if he’s going to have any hope of being taken seriously he’s going to have to figure something out. Fortunately, after being kicked out of class for being too cute he stumbled across an ancient text that spoke of a sort of uber-nightmare. If he can find it, he might be able to acquire its scariness and become the most fearsome shadow in the dream world. Of course, he has to find it first. Thus, Allen’s journey beings. Leading him on a hunt across four different Read More

Great so far!

I first heard about this game a few nights ago on the TouchArcade forums and have been looking forward to its release. This game doesn't dissapoint! Most of the platformers on iOS devices feel either watered down or hard to control. Fortunately Terra Noctis doesn't follow suit from its platforming predecessors. The graphics are beautiful to look at. The pixel art feels right at home on my iPod touch and is nice to see a throwback to old-school graphics when the app store is populated with platformers using crisp, clean lines. The controls are also a highlight of this game. Moving around and jumping feels completely natural thanks to tight, responsive controls. The developers have been listening to what the people say before this game was ever released and have tweaked the size, shape and transparency to make them work well without intruding on the gameplay area. The aiming issues are a little awkward at first but I suspect with a little more playing time they will feel more natural. My only complaints thus far are that there are a few translation issues I have noticed with the dialogue, though it's nothing too terrible that it takes you out of the overall experience; also, there appears to be a glitch with the pumpkin shop. I go in, click on an item to see what it does and I click 'cancel' but it won't allow me to select a different item. I have to exit the shop then go back in to see a different item. All in all, this is a wonderful platforming game that both looks and feels great. It's definitely one of the best of its genre in the app store and one any platformer fan should try.
One of, if not, the best platformers on iOS

All I have to say is worth every penny! Oh yeah, I'll add the last star when the game supports Game Center.
Amazing
Poptart1337 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
The title says it all this game is amazing! It is the best controlling platformer that I have played for IOS. The atmosphere is great with artistic visuals, nice music and stellar sound design. Not only that but with tons to collect in every level it even has replay value after you have finished all the levels (which there are plenty of). Terra Noctis manages to feel old school while still remaining fresh, it earned it's five stars and more.
