Men like hitting stuff. At least, the “manly-men” of the world do, according to EA. The studio has kicked off its own Fathers’ Day celebration on the App Store, slashing prices for several of its action and sports-oriented titles. Big names like FIFA 11 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Madden 11 have been reduced to pennies, while others are receiving generous discounts. Dead Space, for example, is now just $3. Overall, there’s over a dozen EA-published games available at 85-percent off the normal rate. We’re not sure how much longer the “Many-Man sale” -- no joke -- will last, so it’s probably wise to grab any of these while they’re on the cheap. If you’re interested in more deals, know that EA isn’t the only publisher hacking at its standard prices -- Gameloft and Firemint have their own going on right now.   #5   Today, 04:45 PM Junior Member Read More
EA wields an incredible amount of power on the App Store. Their game catalog is incredibly vast, and consists of tons of well known IP that even non-gamers are familiar with. When they pulled a similar stunt this holiday season, EA absolutely dominated the top sales list which was great for gamers who scored absolutely insane deals, but bad for other developers who had their Christmas dreams decimated by EA controlling the majority of the App Store top 100. We'll see what happens this time around with this similarly massive sale- This is definitely a great time to fill in your collection if you're missing any of these EA titles. It's hard to really provide any real recommendations here since so many of these games are so good. If you don't have Dead Space yet, I'd really download that. Same with NBA Jam. Also, it's hard to really say which is Read More
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More

After seeing a ton of success with their massive holiday 99¢ sale, the folks at EA Mobile are once again going on a discount binge. While not quite as extensive as that previous sale, a number of EA titles have temporarily dropped to 99¢ as part of an "I  ♥ 99¢ Sales" sale. Check out the following list of discounted games which are directly linked to the App Store: iPhone/iPod touch games: iPad games: The sale is said to run for 48 hours, so make sure and grab whatever you like while it's currently discounted. We'll keep our eyes on AppShopper.com to see if any new titles are added to this sale, as several new games were added to the sale just as I've been working on this post. Also, there's still a load of EA titles that are still 99¢ from their last big sale, so it may be worth Read More
Tons of EA Games for iPhone Now on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Dec 2010 18:50:16 UTC +00:00
If you’ve been holding off on purchasing a particular EA Game from the App Store, now is the time to bite. Many of the publisher’s popular titles have nosedived to a mere $0.99 cents, and folks as you know, it doesn’t get any cheaper than that. We aren’t just talking about low-budget titles either. Nope, games like Tetris, Mirror’s Edge, and The Sims 3 have all hit the price tag chopping block. Better head over to EA’s section of the App Store now, we’re sure this won’t last long. Read More
The Great Electronic Arts 99¢ Sale of 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:23:29 UTC +00:00
It seems like whenever a holiday rolls around in the US, all of the major developers put their catalog of iOS games on sale in an effort to ride a wave of publicity into the top app charts. Electronic Arts is no stranger to this practice, and in observance of a very special holiday this Winter they have dropped a huge number of their games down to 99¢. Yes, that's right, EA is having a sale to celebrate forum moderator ImNoSuperMan's birthday. Just kidding. It's a Christmas sale. Or rather, a "Holiday" sale. Whatever the politically correct reason for this event is, the bottom line is that you can get a ton of EA games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for just a dollar each right now. (Note that some of these titles actually launched at 99¢, or have been that price for a while, but have been added to Read More
Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

Calendar16 Sat, 03 Jul 2010 10:25:44 UTC +00:00
In celebration of this holiday weekend, several game companies are hoping that you'll load up on some new games while loading up on burgers and hot dogs. Four of the biggest iPhone developers have discounted a selection of their games for this event, and a few other random sales are occurring as well. Holidays on the App Store mean big savings for customers. Developers including Glu, Gameloft, and Namco are putting oodles of apps on sale, with many as low as $0.99. Grab 'em while you can! We Americans celebrate July 4th as Independence Day. Usually it involves fireworks, glow-sticks, barbecues, and patriotic parades. But quite a few developers have decided to celebrate in yet another way—by putting their apps on sale. Yay, cheap apps! Yay, developers selling lots of apps! Yay, fireworks! So far we’ve got sales from EA Games, Glu, Gameloft, and Namco, as well as a few bonus apps. Hit the break for a full listing of on-sale apps and games. Namco Namco is the developer behind lots of games, not just the Pac-man titles, and they’d like us all to remember that with this crazy sale. Many games are $0.99; others are still significantly cheaper than their already-low App Store Read More
Posted 06/17/2010 at 12:07pm | by Florence Ion With this week's E3 news about Nintendo's new offerings--like the 3DS and the rejuvenation of a plethora of popular titles from the Nintendo 64--iPhone and iPod touch users might be asking themselves if it's time to go back to console gaming. And while most mobile iDevice users probably have an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 collecting dust somewhere in the house, it's not guaranteed that all of them have had a chance to play with the Nintendo DS. With the knowledge that Nintendo may never bring their popular Mario and Zelda titles to the App Store, we scoped out 13 Nintendo DS games that have equal or better equivalents in the App Store to squelch some of your handheld envy. Plus, games sold in the App Store are so much more affordable. Read on for a list of wonderful game titles that will Read More

App Store Freebies Roundup
Calendar16 Tue, 13 Apr 2010 16:43:08 UTC +00:00
Back by popular demand, we’ve once again rounded up all the recent games & apps that have dropped in price for your iDevice. Leading the way is the highly addictive and fun Bird Strike, an adorable game that has taken elements from titles like Doodle Jump, Up There and Flight of the Hamsters. Using tilt controls, your job is to guide Gerald the Bird as high up as he can go, all the while collecting booster rockets and seeds and avoiding various obstacles. Anyone who appreciates a quick (and fun) pick-up-and-play game will definitely enjoy what Bird Strike has to offer.  Also free is Zach Gage’s unique Unify puzzler, a multi-touch block dropping game that should please fans of Tetris and Drop7 (my personal favorite). The entire Freebies roundup can be found after the gap, but do hurry though as some of the price drops are only valid for a very Read More
EA Games hits hard on December 22nd, bringing out a total of 24 games on sale, while the Appvent Calender offers up "Sponge Dude." Christmas is quickly approaching, and sadly, so is the end of many of these deals. But don’t despair yet, because the sales just keep rolling in. Namco just kicked off their “winter sale” yesterday, and EA is back in the game, too! At least this is a nice surprise from EA! EAMobile just sent out two tweets saying, “The following titles will be up to 50% off for the rest of the holiday season! Happy Holidays everyone! Boggle, Madden 10, NBA Live, Rock Band, Surviving High School, Wolfenstein RPG, American Idol, and more!” “And more?” Shockingly, that “and more” includes the likes of Scrabble, Tetris, and Need for Speed: Shift. Mysteriously, some titles that were supposed to stay at $0.99 ’til Christmas are now at higher prices Read More

Black Friday 2009 App Store Sale Extravaganza
Calendar16 Fri, 27 Nov 2009 05:45:08 UTC +00:00
I had planned on settling in tonight, sifting through the tons of emails we've received from developers who are planning to or have put their games on sale, and forming some kind of massive list... Only to discover that TouchArcade forum superstar and all around cool dude Djflippy had completely one-upped me, not only posting a thread with a remarkably comprehensive list, but also alphabetizing said list. All of these games are either on sale currently or either have prices that are currently being modified or will be changed shortly. If something you're looking for isn't the price that we've published, just check back later: There are some serious bargains to be had in that list, and most of these sales are only going to last through the day with some of them extending over the weekend. It's probably not a good idea to wait on downloading any of these games Read More
It's uncanny. When known software gets repackaged for iPhones and iPod Touches and passes through the hallowed gates of the App Store, something happens: Almost invariably, it gets cheaper. Waaay cheaper. Good right? Well, not always. The App Store is a strange new place for developers. Veterans and newcomers engage in bareknuckle combat, driving prices down to levels people wouldn't have imagined charging just a few years ago. Margins drop to razor-thin levels while customers expect apps to get cheaper and cheaper, but with ever increasing quality and depth. For developers, for other software platforms and potentially for the increasingly fickle customers themselves, it's uncharted, and treacherous, territory. But the most bizarre thing of all is—in an effort to keep people in the App Store, and to prevent competitors from getting a toehold in the mobile app business—Apple's charting a course straight into it. "The App Store is a very competitive Read More
Tetris
Calendar16 Mon, 24 Aug 2009 17:20:50 UTC +00:00
No phone would be complete without Tetris, and the iPhone is no exception. Electronic Arts has brought this classic game to the iPhone with an added game mode, fun graphics and sounds, and the same great game-play we all know and love. If you don’t know what Tetris is by now, it’s basically a puzzle game where you must fit pieces, know as Tetrimino, together as they fall down a rectangular grid. The goal is to make completed rows of pieces, which then disappear and earn you points. With every level, the speed of the falling blocks increases, as does the number of rows you must fill to gain access to the next level. Along with the classic marathon mode, this game includes a magic mode. It is similar to marathon mode, the only difference being that special items become available after a certain number of points are obtained. These magic Read More

Google Goes All Tetris For 25th Anniversary
Calendar16 Sat, 06 Jun 2009 17:06:28 UTC +00:00
If you haven't already noticed, Google has transformed their logo to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the the epic release of Tetris. The building block video puzzle game was originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov, created on June 6, 1984, while he was working for the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow. The game quickly rose to cult classic status when Game Boy launched in 1989, establishing Tetris as one of the most popular video games ever. Alexey Pajitnov derived the the name from the Greek numerical prefix "tetra- (all of the game's pieces, known as Tetrominoes, contain four segments) and tennis, Pajitnov's favorite sport. Tetris for iPhone is available in the App Store for $4.99 from Electronic Arts, though I prefer my legendary copy of , the Tetris clone app created by Noah Witherspoon. The wildly popular Tris for iPhone which originally Read More
Apple Hits 1 Billion App Store Downloads!
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Apr 2009 23:24:28 UTC +00:00
Apple was expected to serve up their 1 Billionth (with a capital B) App Store download today, and lo and behold, Apple has announced that they’ve officially seen 1 billion iPhone/iPod Touch applications downloaded from their iTunes App Store! In less than a full year of existence, Apple and the iPhone have managed to make mobile applications as commonplace as an iTunes music purchase, and the App Store’s popularity continues to grow. The total tally of iPhone applications in the iPhone AppStore was estimated to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 25,000 in March 2009. And, with thousands more iPhone applications hitting the AppStore on a monthly basis, Apple’s success with their integrated mobile application delivery model will likely continue. No wonder everyone and their grandmother are trying to launch mobile application stores of their own. For the record, it took Apple six whole months to reach the 500-million milestone. From Read More

Reviews

Quality game, but overpriced.
:p atrick 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
You can see that there has been a lot of work put into Tetris. With it's beautiful menus, animations, and catchy music, this app is bound to amaze friends and family. Not only is it fun and eye-catching, but it is also addicting, and the controls are very intuitive.
Warning!
Proud Papa4 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
I purchased this with high hopes since the reviews all sounded so positive. Unfortunately, the program crashes every time I try to start it. There should be more warnings regarding products that have issues loading, or crashing. If we are going to be beta testers, then don't charge for the application.
Absolutely terrible
David Dollar 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
Game crashes on load 9 times out of 10. This was a complete waste of money.
This game stinks!
Lay0625 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
It has 15 sorry levels. I beat the game the 4th time I played. This was the biggest waste of 10 bucks! I don't recomend anyone waste their money on this game unless maybe you've never played tetris before. It may be interesting for awhile but I'm sure you'll beat it in no time and then you'll be in the same position as me!
Love the new game mode!
frostilucus 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
Being able to move pieces with your finger is so much better than the d-pad. Sold.
Why ignore the silent switch?
Doug727 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
I've seen several apps now (incl this one) that for some reason or other completely ignore the silent switch. If I set my phone to silent, do these devs really think I still want to hear their game sounds just because it's SOOO awesome? -1 Star.
Good Idea... Crashed
j.bryant 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
This game is way fun! But I never get to finish it. The game keeps crashing and sending me back to the IPhone home screen. EA needs to fix the game and release an update. If it keeps crashing, it won't be worth the $9.99 I paid for it.
Near Excellent
kof4life 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
This is an great game, near excellent quality. It initially loads a little slow to get the app started. I would have like a varied soundtrack to play to. The touch interface control method is solid and with the refined price it is well worth it. I think users need to realize that these are real game almost to the quality of computer games in some respects. My wife played Tetris habitually on her Samsung flip phone, yes it was $2 for the game but it didn't have a great interface like this high quality graphics or background music. This is the real deal and we will have to pay more for something of this quality. Well worth $9.99. I am evaluating this game as a purchaser of the product on the games own merit. I am not rating the price, the producer, or my personal opinion of puzzle games.
It's Tetris!
FTV 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
Hey, it's Tetris! And in good form. Only thing that irritates me is that you can't play your own music while you play the game. Other than that this is a good version. Controls well with touch gestures.
Great game when it works
bjdraw 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
I'm a big Tetris fan and I was very happy to see how much fun the iPhone version was. But it takes way too long to load and has crashed on me half the times I've played it. It is still worth the $10 though, but you better believe I'll be checking for updates regularly.
Crashes! Useless. Won't work even after a reinstall and restore.
bressface 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
The game crashes. The controls are sucky. I miss the old gameboy version.
Please fix the bugs!
Busvan 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
Great game - great UI - but it crashes ALL THE TIME! Frustrating!
Awesome!
kazclawnavi 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
This is by far the best Tetris on ANY mobile platform, my favorite so far
Game Freak
souljacker.night 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
This game is absolutely gorgeous. I thought tetris was only a so so game until I played it on the iPhone. Stunning graphics, intuitive touch interface, and way too addictive! There goes my productivity *sighs*
Surprisingly great port!
Jansperus 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
When I saw TETRIS for the iPhone, I had my doubts. There are many bad overpriced ports of great games in the store (I'm looking at you, SEGA!). However, this is not one of them. You can tell that EA spent much time on this game. The graphics are sharp and and beautiful, the music is pleasant, and though the controls are done surprisingly well. I'm not able to react as quickly as I can with a d-pad, but I'm still getting used to the controls. My only real complaint is the lack of game modes -there's only two. Nonetheless, if you love TETRIS, you really should buy this game!
performance is not good..
Murugs 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
app exits often due to performace. game need to be improved on peformance...
Great game but expensive
maneeshpan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
TETRIS is a great game but on App Store is a tad expensive. Also so far I have been unable to download it. I accidentally clicked buy before seeing the price and to make matters worse while the game is listed on App Store it is not set to come out till tomorrow (the day after the App Store launch -- same date as iPhone 3G launch Friday July 11th 2008) and thus am unable to download it. The version for the click wheel iPods was cheaper. Also when I click check for purchases it gives me an error message then also. Also EA Games please update the Royal Solitaire game for click wheel iPods to work with iPod Classic and Nano with video. Also if your able to make an iPhone/iPod Touch port of that game as well that would be great.
Terrible bugs!

Installed it a few days ago on my new iPhone 3G and I still can't get it to work! It crashes when it gets to the menu screen so I paid for an app I have yet to play. Come on EA! This is a phone-- everyone has the same hardware and the same OS! I don't understand how they can charge money for an app that obviously has some major problems. My advice would be to wait for an update... don't pay for this beta app.

The game has crashed more times than I've been able to even play it.

I like playing Tetris by touching the screen, but the game crashes allot... really annoying!
Great game, but a little pricey...

LOVE the game!! So addicting!!! The music is pretty fun as well. I can't put the game down!!! My only gripe is I wish it was a little cheaper....
Good ole Tetris

I don't know what these people are talking about all these crashes for mine has yet to crash once but hmmm here's an interesting thought maybee it's because I know how to follow directions when I've been told numerous times before by EVERYONE that you must RESTART your phone to allow games like these to run properly.
Beware!

Has crashed every time I've tried to load it on my 3g. I'd like a patch or my money back!
I would review if I could actually play it.
SuzyO 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.55
As it crashes my clean, brand new phone every time it loads, it is difficult to rate it.
Might be fun if it didn't crash

I am also in the boat of "does not work at all" -- simply put it crashes every single time it is loaded. I would like my money back or a fixed version.
Poor use of touch screen
NinjaWombat 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.87
There are 2 kinds of games for the iPhone. Those that use the touch screen in innovative and fun ways, and those that make use of touch features just for the sake of it in a gimmicky way. Unfortunately Tetris for iPhone falls in the latter category. I like Tetris as a game, but this specific version doesn't work well. The main problem are the controls: you need to make swiping motions to move falling pieces, which is time-consuming. Furthermore there are glitches such as when you swipe a piece down, if you move your finger slightly diagonally, it will also move the piece sideways and place it in a bad position that can make you lose the game. This prevents the game from being playable at the fast paced/high difficulty levels. The game overcomes this by starting out extremely slowly for the first 30 minutes; so slowly that it isn't fun at all, and then when the speed picks up it becomes unplayable. The fun in Tetris is all about speed and fast reflexes, and because of that I have to say that this version just isn't fun. It appear as though EA rushed this game out without spending the time to make sure that the game mechanics worked well. Avoid.
Great game, dunno why people hate it

Ok, I have read through all the mixed reviews, but most of them wern't useful at all. I downloaded the game and I have not problems with it after I did these steps. First, to avoid crashing problems, RESTART the iPhone or iPod touch. You ALWAYS restart after you install an app, espically if the description tells you to which in this case, does. Second, after you restart, turn your volume to mute since the splash screen may be loud. Open Tetris up, then scroll down to options. Change the global volume here to a desired area. Also, (this is optional) you can upload some of the original Tetris songs onto your music library (if your the old school type person). You can start playing the song as you go into Tetris (it lets you play your music as you play). That's it! Have your enjoyable Tetris expirence!
