I’m not as learned about The 7th Guest [$2.99 / HD], or as much of a fan of the iOS port as Fearless Leader Eli “7th Guest” Hodapp, but even I’m stoked about this latest shred of news relating to the fabled puzzle game: Trilobyte, the studio behind the original game and its well-received touch-based port, is doing an iPad spin-off called The 7th Guest: Infection, a title solely based around the ridiculous-hard microscope puzzle that had to be cut from the port of The 7th Guest when it came to iOS earlier in 2010. The microscope puzzle earned its “maddening” descriptor because it was -- and still holds up as -- one of the most convoluted and stressing game puzzles of all time. Earlier this morning we caught up with Graeme Devine at GDC. Recognize the name? He was a co-founder of Trilobyte and had a huge hand in the original The 7th Guest [$2.99 / HD], The 11th Hour and worked on other games like RTS Halo Wars and FPS Doom 3. Our conversation was all over the place -- we talked a bit about native design for the iOS, subscription models, his departure from Apple, and even a little bit about his future as an iOS developer. I just played through the entire game this past weekend -- I really don't remember the game being this short, or easy, but it's still a great game. A couple times I found myself unable to advance. When this happened I wandered around the house until I saw a new "cutscene" which usually unlocked more rooms to explore. One time the cutscene was in the kitchen, the other time it was in the study. Trilobyte recently had an update to The 7th Guest [$2.99 / $5.99] land on the App Store which addresses a few complaints that we had in our review and that forum members had in the game's thread. Music now loops properly, and the game's animations have been slowed to their intended speed allowing for much more dramatic movement through the house. The virtual mouse cursor and vintage save system still persists, but it's really great to play the game at the original speed it was intended to be played at. It would be nice if there was a toggle somewhere in the options for a "turbo mode" to make the game as fast as it was before, but maybe we'll see something like that in future updates or even in the upcoming sequel 11th Hour. Dec 15th 2010 at 7:00PM I wasn't going to download Real Racing 2 until I saw that it had officially licensed cars, including the Focus RS. Oh well, I'm sure it will be $10 well spent. Duke Nukem doesn't appear to be Free, but $.99. Amazingly adventure is being for release in this coming month. I hope, it can leave good impact on everyone.
