The following is a list of apps that you’ll want to pick up today, as they’ve all been suitably updated to look quadruply awesome: There are some pretty cool wallpapers being assembled over at The Verge – http://vrge.co/wfcOCh Read More
Apple showcases apps ready for the retina iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 16:15:32 UTC +00:00
Apple wants you to enjoy that brand new retina iPad and has compiled a list of apps that are ready for the high-resolution display. It includes many of the big-name apps that were quick to get their app updated after Apple’s iPad announcement last week. The list includes entertainment apps, productivity apps, games, and more. Kelly spent the last three years covering mobile technology at places like BGR, Gizmodo and The Unofficial Apple Weblog. Before writing, she spent a few years working with and teaching others how to use Adobe Flash and Macromedia Director. Even earlier than that, she spent six years working on her Ph.D in Microbiology. When she's not writing, she can be found fishing the lakes and hiking the mountains of Western Maine with her husband and children. Read More
Roundup of retina-ready apps for the new iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 13:45:00 UTC +00:00
It's iPad day and many of you are looking for the best Retina-capable apps to install on your new Apple tablet. Apple's got you covered with a section of the iTunes app store dedicated to apps updated to support the iPad's new retina display. Apple's list will get you started, but it isn't exhaustive and only includes major apps like Tweetbot and Evernote. There are many other retina-ready apps that are not being showcased by Apple. We won't be able to list every single retina app in the App Store, but we will cover some of our favorites below. If there are any that we have missed, please let us know in the comments! And here is the list from Apple: Read More
The Retina iPad Apps To Test Tonight And Tomorrow

MG Siegler is a general partner at CrunchFund and a columnist for TechCrunch, where he has been writing since 2009. His focus is on Apple. Prior to TechCrunch, MG covered various technology beats for VentureBeat. Originally from Ohio, MG attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He’s previously lived in Los Angeles where he worked in Hollywood and in... → Learn More The new iPad nears. Apparently Walmart will be selling them in just a few short hours, well before Apple itself does tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, the first direct-to-consumer shipments should be hitting anytime now. Long story short, a lot of people are going to be getting the new Retina display iPad over the next several hours. Unsurprisingly, the Retina-ready apps are already flowing in. When I asked Apple for a list of third-party Retina-ready apps (all of Apple’s apps are already upgraded) a few days ago for my Read More
The Early Edition 2.1 came out a day or two ago, and it gained a few significant upgrades. It’s still the newspaper-shaped RSS reader I loved in my initial review, but it’s now a little faster with syncing (about 15 seconds to sync a day’s worth of my feeds), and it has added some awesome Readability support. The latter is a particularly killer addition because it means that partial feeds, like the one for Joystiq, can be read in-app without having to load the entire webpage up. Thank goodness for this, as it has always been a little annoying to head to a website and have only one extra paragraph to read “after the jump”. I’d go so far as to say the Readability support warrants another look at The Early Edition 2 (download link here) if you passed it up the first time around. You can now get a lot Read More
Review: Early Edition 2 for iPad
Calendar16 Sun, 06 Nov 2011 23:07:00 UTC +00:00
The Early Edition 2 is the app that I have been loading up first every morning for almost two weeks now. It takes a bit longer (30-50 seconds) to prepare its dynamic layout than apps like Flipboard, but the wait is well worth it because the layouts in the early edition are pure, unadulterated awesome. The Early Edition 2 can be used as a stand-alone news reader with its own set of feeds, but I prefer that it take feeds from my Google Reader account and create a custom paper from the 50 or so websites that I follow. The Early Edition is also able to edit existing reader feeds and folders, which is a feature that many RSS apps don’t seem to bother with, and I love being able to peruse and curate my content all in one mobile interface. You’re free to browse the app by section or feeds, Read More
Zum Morgenkaffee: ‘The Early Edition 2′
Calendar16 Tue, 25 Oct 2011 09:47:32 UTC +00:00
Grundsätzlich gilt: Die App tut, was sie verspricht.

TiPb Picks of the Week for October 21, 2011
Calendar16 Sat, 22 Oct 2011 14:49:11 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Oct 22, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! This week’s pick was an easy one. Instapaper has long been one of my favorite apps, and I’ve been using it for years. Developer Marco Arment has released an incredible update to the app this week, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) in the lifespan of the app. Instapaper 4.0 has so many new features, I’m not even going to list them here (plus, if my geek-Cylon intuition is right, a certain other Read More
The Early Edition 2 for iPad now available

By Leanna Lofte, Thursday, Oct 20, 2011 | The Early Edition for iPad is the digital newspaper and RSS reader that launched alongside the iPad. Over the course of 12 months, Glasshouse Apps has redesigned it from the ground up and just released The Early Edition 2 – and we’re gifting away 5 copies! I wasn’t a fan of the original Early Edition, but I am loving The Early Edition 2! The UI is gorgeous and the app runs nice and smooth on my iPad 2. Because of my love for eye candy, one of my favorite features is the manilla envelope that pops up when sharing an article to a social network and the “Shared Copy” stamp that appears just before it pops up. The Early Edition 2 is a beautiful, up-to-the-minute newspaper that puts you in the editorial seat. RSS feeds are the basis for content and now it Read More
