The Simpsons Arcade
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Nov 2011 14:50:00 UTC +00:00
D’oh! The iconic word said by Homer of the animated T.V. show The Simpsons. Most of us have grown up watching the show and seen merchandise made from it. I remember going to the arcade and playing The Simpsons Arcade Game. It was a memorable yet difficult game when I was a kid. I’ve spent five dollars but I beat it. The Simpsons Arcade is an app with many references to the show. So when I saw this app on iTunes I had to check it out and see how it compares to the arcade game by Konami. The Simpsons Arcade by Electronic Arts is an app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad. This game is a beat-em up just like its predecessor. The Simpsons Arcade shares many similarities to the arcade classic such as references to the show, story, and gameplay. Like many beat-em ups, you move around Read More

When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More

After seeing a ton of success with their massive holiday 99¢ sale, the folks at EA Mobile are once again going on a discount binge. The Great Electronic Arts 99¢ Sale of 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:23:29 UTC +00:00
It seems like whenever a holiday rolls around in the US, all of the major developers put their catalog of iOS games on sale in an effort to ride a wave of publicity into the top app charts. Electronic Arts is no stranger to this practice, and in observance of a very special holiday this Winter they have dropped a huge number of their games down to 99¢. Yes, that's right, EA is having a sale to celebrate forum moderator ImNoSuperMan's birthday. Just kidding. It's a Christmas sale. Or rather, a "Holiday" sale. Whatever the politically correct reason for this event is, the bottom line is that you can get a ton of EA games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for just a dollar each right now. (Note that some of these titles actually launched at 99¢, or have been that price for a while, but have been added to Read More
Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

When it comes to math problems, Wolfram Alpha is smarter than the average search engine. Now it's affordable, too. One of the App Store's most notoriously expensive apps just got a price cut. Wolfram Alpha, which debuted last October for the fairly jaw-dropping price of $49.99, now sells for just $1.99 [iTunes link]. In case the name doesn't ring a bell, Wolfram Alpha made headlines last year as a supposed Google killer, a search engine that could perform "computational knowledge" tricks far beyond any other service. In other words, as CNET's Rafe Needleman put it, "Google finds links. Wolfram Alpha finds answers." My own take: It's a search engine for math geeks. In any case, there was widespread glee when Wolfram Alpha got the app treatment--followed by considerable head-scratching and some outright rage over its price. The $50 sticker seemed particularly insulting considering that you could enjoy much of the same Read More
EA Holds Massive Spring Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Apr 2010 15:05:03 UTC +00:00
In celebration of Spring, EA has discounted a number of their games until April 5th. The list includes a wide range of titles included below: The sale lasts through the weekend until April 5th. So, I wrote iTunes (reported a problem) when I received my bill. And even though the game's info says that it's in English, and it's not, I was told that there is nothing that they can do for me, that the 'functionality of the game is not Apple's responsibility." So... another $5 down the damn drain... Still no response from the developer... sucks that I paid $5 only to be able to leave a goddamn 1 star review.   #11   Today, 08:08 AM Senior Member iPhone 4, iOS 5.x Join Date: Oct 2011 Posts: 245 Can't wait any more to try this game ! The Simpsons Arcade Review: Beat Em Up Homer! Go!
Calendar16 Fri, 12 Feb 2010 17:36:35 UTC +00:00
After the Family Guy mini game debauchery. I was a skeptic! As a fan of most most cartoon that lean towards the edge, The Simpsons are always one to watch. Join Homer in a drooling pursuit of frosted fried dough. Dodge sinister Springfield forces with touchscreen controls. Get help from Marge, Maggie, Lisa & Bart with “Family Frenzy” power-ups. Race through 25+ levels in 6 environments and run into other favorite characters. Mini-games, plus real voices and sounds add a touch more deliciousness, too. My Take On this game, it’s just like the Arcade game they released in 1991.  Or so I thought, same game-type, just a different storyline.  I was pleasantly surprised on how it is presented and played.  As if any person reads my reviews, I detest EA for upchucking retreads for a fast buck. I don’t think EA stuck their nose in this one.  It was done with Read More
Review: The Simpsons Arcade for iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 12 Jan 2010 19:44:09 UTC +00:00
Back in December, EA announced they were bringing the arcade classic ‘The Simpsons Arcade’ to the iPhone / iPod Touch platform.  The announcement had gamers excited as we all hold The Simpsons Arcade very dear to our hearts.  Then it was revealed that the game wouldn’t be a port of that title, instead it would be sort of a remake and players would play as Homer, and only as Homer. With all of these changes to The Simpsons Arcade for the iPhone, did the game live up to the expectations and fun of the original arcade title? The Simpsons Arcade is a side-scrolling beat-em-up that has you playing as everyone’s favorite dimwit father, Homer Simpson.  The game starts off with Homer attempting to do what he does best: eating a doughnut.  The doughnut he’s about to eat also happens to hold a USB drive that contains a sinister plot that nearly Read More

The original Simpsons arcade game was absolutely a ball to play through and took many hours of my life away. EA has decided to resurrect that hit game in an iPhone version but makes a bunch of changes to give players a completely new experience to play through. The formula is still the same beat'em up style that was in the first one, but this time you are following Homer's journey. The game features crisp graphics and cameos by almost every Simpsons character I can think of. Throughout the game players can pick up different objects to use as weapons and even uncover tagteam specials such as having Bart jump on your shoulders flinging slingshot projectiles. One disappointment in the game was that I could only use Homer. The old game allowed for multiple characters but this one limits players to just one. Overall, the game played very well and was Read More

Simpsons Arcade (sort of) released on iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 21 Dec 2009 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
If you happened to be wandering around a St. Louis, Missouri arcade in the early nineties, you'd probably find a young me, playing the Simpsons Arcade game (either that or the Avengers game, I loved that one too). It was great: beat-em-up action, The Simpsons, and impressive animations and graphics for the era. Now, EA Mobile wants you to try and revisit those days on your iPhone -- kind of. They've released something that they're calling [iTunes Link] on the App Store, and while it is a nice sort of tribute to the old game, it's not exactly a direct port. Trust me -- I played the old game, which had the family chasing after Maggie, and this game, which has Homer chasing after a doughnut, isn't the same thing. It's not a bad game -- it is a beat-em-up, with the standard movement stick, and an attack and jump button, Read More
D’Oh! The Simpsons Arcade Hits The App Store
Calendar16 Mon, 21 Dec 2009 15:41:27 UTC +00:00
The Simpsons video games have been available on nearly every type of gaming platform since the show’s launch 20 years ago, and today the iPhone and iPod touch get to be included on that long list thanks to EA Mobile. The Simpsons Arcade for the iPhone and iPod touch is a side-scrolling button masher that will have you controlling Homer Simpson as he attempts to track down a mysterious doughnut that holds secret information regarding a treacherous scheme concocted by the evildoers of Springfield. The game features an on-screen d-pad and only two other buttons that will allow you to punch, kick, jump, butt slam, belly flop, and even pick up and throw objects located in the environment.  You will also be able to earn and activate power-ups that will allow you to summon help from the entire Simpson family.  The Simpsons Arcade also includes touch and accelerometer controlled mini-games to Read More

'The Simpsons Arcade' – Follow That USB Doughnut?
Calendar16 Mon, 21 Dec 2009 07:34:00 UTC +00:00
What started as a curious animated TV show 20 years ago has since turned in to a cartoon dynasty spanning nearly 500 episodes, nine comic book series, several video games, a theme park ride and even a movie along with the accompanied merchandising blitz of books, board games, t-shirts, and other swag. The Simpsons Arcade [App Store] for the iPhone is the latest entry in The Simpsons empire, and while it's not the most amazing game on the platform, it's one of the better Simpsons games-- A bar set hilariously low by previous video games that take place in The Simpsons universe. Before you get too excited, no, this isn't The Simpsons Arcade from the early 90's. Instead, it's a significant upgrade to the J2ME game. All of the graphics and animations seem to be substantially spruced up, although the same irritatingly repetitive music remains. In The Simpsons Arcade, you play Read More
