Nearly two years ago, EA released Tiger Woods PGA Tour [99¢] into the App Store. This game was remarkable at the time for providing a fairly robust golf experience that was akin to the Tiger Woods series on home consoles. While the graphics were fairly lackluster, the frame rate was incredibly smooth and it was exciting to have such a fully featured golf game in your pocket. The real standout feature, though, was the touch screen swing meter which offered a very direct and organic way to swing clubs in the game, which we talked about in our original review of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. Now, after skipping a new release last year, EA is back with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 [$6.99/HD]. This iteration of the franchise brings with it several new features and greatly improved graphics, but the gameplay feels extremely similar to the last version. This isn’t necessarily Read More
EA Releases 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12' Gameplay Trailer
Calendar16 Fri, 25 Mar 2011 17:08:12 UTC +00:00
I wish I could explain why I've recently found myself so infatuated with a golf game of all things, since my real-world golf experience is limited to doing poorly on driving ranges... But, I digress. EA just released a gameplay trailer for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, and it looks sweet as heck. We were expecting this game to land next Thursday, and EA just confirmed that date on their end. Check it out: Keep in mind the original Tiger Woods PGA Tour [99¢] is still just a buck, and it's hard to say if that price will remain the same or not once its successor is released. (Or if the game will even still be sold or not.) So, if you want the old version, or don't particularly care about having the new hotness, don't wait too long on picking it up.   #13   Today, 01:29 AM Senior Member Read More
Earlier this week we posted about Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12's immanent arrival on the App Store. EA is saying it will be released in March, and it obviously didn't appear on the App Store last night, which means it will likely be released next Thursday. The existing Tiger Woods PGA Tour [99¢] recently dropped to a buck, so if you're really looking to get a taste of Tiger, now is your chance. We reviewed it when it was first released, and it's a very solid iOS golf game. It's hard to say how long this sale will last, but I doubt it will persist past the actual release of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12. If you don't necessarily care about having the latest and greatest installment in the series, this is totally worth snagging while it's on sale. Alternatively, you could wait a week for Tiger 12, but just keep Read More
The Great Electronic Arts 99¢ Sale of 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:23:29 UTC +00:00
It seems like whenever a holiday rolls around in the US, all of the major developers put their catalog of iOS games on sale in an effort to ride a wave of publicity into the top app charts. Electronic Arts is no stranger to this practice, and in observance of a very special holiday this Winter they have dropped a huge number of their games down to 99¢. Yes, that's right, EA is having a sale to celebrate forum moderator ImNoSuperMan's birthday. Just kidding. It's a Christmas sale. Or rather, a "Holiday" sale. Whatever the politically correct reason for this event is, the bottom line is that you can get a ton of EA games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for just a dollar each right now. (Note that some of these titles actually launched at 99¢, or have been that price for a while, but have been added to Read More

I have a confession to make that might put my Fanboy status in jeopardy. I wasn’t part of the iPhone click until the iPhone 3G veiled its beautiful body to us. It’s a humbling revelation that I feel necessary to share. I have only been able to enjoy the iPhone with the App Store available. Having done my share of downloading and reviewing, (72 apps on my iPhone 4 today), I often wonder if I have maximized the potential that the App Store can cultivate. It took me quite a while to break down and purchase paid applications. Probably too long. When I started adding iTunes credit to my account, it was if I was the conductor of entirely different ship. A much nicer ship. I first hit apps which reflected the interests related to my lifestyle. Engadget, ESPN Radio, Echofon, Words with Friends, Tiger Woods, and those similar were the Read More

TUAW's Daily App: SimCity

Jun 23rd 2010 at 8:00AM Looks like the sale in only in the US app store (or at least C&C is not on sale in the NZ one). It's not in the UK one either. Shame! Since when did TUAW become a gaming magazine? I love the concept of an app of the day but it would be great if there were an option of filtering game reviews out of TUAW's otherwise relevant news feed... You and Jordan need to start up your own blog, call it iComplain. I hope they put these on sale because of an upcoming iPad version of the games... I'm getting sick of using FullForce on Trivial Pursuit... it makes the board full screen, but the questions and such still only occupy an iPhone-sized corner of the screen. I'm betting it's to bump their games up on the best sellers lists before all the new iPhone Read More
by Game-maker Electronic Arts (EA) is selling a big chunk of its iPhone game library for just $0.99 per game for the next 48 hours — a steep discount for many of its titles which include Madden NFL 2010, FIFA 10 and SimCity. Not all of EA’s games are on sale, though. Sure, SimCity is $0.99, but [iTunes link] is still a steep $6.99, and while FIFA 2010 is just $0.99, the more timely [iTunes link] hangs at $2.99 — though that’s not a bad price, either. EA is one of the world’s biggest game publishers. Its EA Sports line of games is at the top of the heap, and franchises like The Sims, Mass Effect and Medal of Honor have at one time or another led in sales or influence. Increasingly, the company has extended those franchises to mobile devices like the iPhone. The full list of games on sale Read More

We’ve picked up Battleship to add to our collection, how about you? Read More

EA Holding Massive $0.99 Sale for 48 Hours
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Jun 2010 14:04:00 UTC +00:00
EA is holding a massive $0.99 sale on over a dozen titles. The sale will only last 48 hours, so you have to act quickly. The games have been nicely organized by niezam into games that have never been $0.99 before, and ones that have (U.S. Links): $.99 for the first time $.99 once or several time before While all the games are good values for only $0.99, we'd probably say Need for Speed: Shift is the "must get" game from the list. It has frequently been cited as one of the best racing games for the iPhone, so it's a good one to have. So, I wrote iTunes (reported a problem) when I received my bill. And even though the game's info says that it's in English, and it's not, I was told that there is nothing that they can do for me, that the 'functionality of the game is Read More

Review: Best New iPod and iPhone AppStore Games
Calendar16 Mon, 12 Oct 2009 00:29:39 UTC +00:00
With the recent iPod Touch update Apple has positioned and marketed the device as a new type of mobile gaming platform. Games have always been some of the best selling applications in the AppStore for both the iPod Touch and the iPhone. A recent advertisement for the iPod Touch carries the slogan “The Funnest iPod Ever” and features a number of games. We decided to try out and review each of the games featured in the ad and rate the ‘fun factor’ ourselves. The Apple mobile devices have become decent gaming machines, with some of the newer games providing in-depth 3D environments and absorbing gameplay. We found a number of games that were extremely well developed and addictive, as good and better than most of the dedicated mobile gaming devices available on the market today. We previously reviewed the best iPhone Apps so far this year. The following is our review Read More

Detailed Look at EA's 'Madden NFL 2010' for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Sep 2009 18:15:06 UTC +00:00
It's hard to describe the Madden series of games as a franchise anymore, they've been around so long it seems that a more appropriate way to describe the games would be the "Madden dynasty." The first Madden game appeared on the Apple II all the way back in 1989, it wasn't until Madden '94 that the real NFL teams were included, and sports gamers would have to wait another year until the real players were added. When you look back at the 20 years these games have been around, constantly improving each year, it's no surprise that Madden NFL 10 [App Store] is as good as it is. Madden NFL 10 was one of the titles we previewed at PAX and spent some time with EA who highlighted the many features from the game. First and foremost, Madden NFL 10 includes all of the NFL players, teams, and stadiums. Around 2000 Read More
Industry giant EA isn't satisfied with dominating the premium iPhone game market with App Store blockbusters like The Sims 3 [App Store], Need For Speed Undercover [App Store], Tiger Woods PGA Tour [App Store], and other titles which have all flirted with various positions on the top sales charts. EA is now setting its sights on the 99¢ market, which is where their new "micro-studio", 8lb Gorilla comes in. 8lb Gorilla is a team of twenty-something year old developers set loose by EA executives, in their words, "on an island" to develop indie-style simple pick up and play iPhone games. These 8lb gorillas, backed by EA (the 800lb gorilla) plan on releasing these bite-sized games on a near-monthly basis, pending no delays with the App Store submission process. Their first entry in to this market is Zombies & Me. Instead of taking place in a post-apocalyptic world, the game is set Read More

EA Sales: 'Tiger Woods' and 'Need for Speed'
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Jun 2009 14:53:56 UTC +00:00
EA has recently dropped the price on two of its high profile titles: Tiger Woods and Need for Speed. Both are excellent games that were originally priced at $9.99 and are on sale temporarily for $6.99. We took a close look at both Tiger Woods and Need for Speed before. At the time of it's review, Need for Speed was declared the "best iPhone racer". That title has been a bit more highly contested since the release of Real Racing, however, but Need for Speed still delivers a very high quality and fun arcade racer. Need for Speed Tiger Woods The system is slow. I have to admit we are not quite prepared to handle thousands of game operation requests in one second. Q1, the time that the update is delivered by Apple, we updated the system as well, but a mistake happened the the system going very slow, some of Read More
Tiger Woods PGA Tour On Sale For U.S. Open
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Jun 2009 13:50:33 UTC +00:00
EA has decided to celebrate the U.S. Open by placing Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the iPhone and iPod touch on sale. Tiger Woods PGA Tour allows you to play as or against the iconic Tiger Woods.  The game contains over 120 holes stretched across 7 of the most famous golf courses.  Tiger Woods PGA Tour features a unique touch-n-drag swing meter, swipe controls to manipulate the direction of your ball spin, play-by-play commentary, and much more. Tiger Woods PGA Tour is on sale in the App Store for only $6.99.  The regular price is $9.99. The U.S. Open festivities started yesterday in New York and that’s exactly the same time the game was placed on sale, so we can only assume the sale will end sometime around the end of the event, which is Sunday, June 21st.  Sounds like a great Father’s Day present to me. Tiger Wood PGA Tour

There have been a few golfing games on the iPhone but none of them have really ever caught my attention for more than a bit. Each game played well but grew old after a while. Tiger Woods PGA Tour is the latest golf game out and is by far the most appealing that I have played. The game features 3D graphics and a custom control scheme that blends perfectly well with the iPhone and iPod Touch hardware. Right from the beginning players can choose to create a character and start playing or begin a PGA Tour bout against some of the most challenging players in the game. Controls are handled by touching the screen and sliding your finger backwards for power and forwards for direction. They handled wonderfully and really brought some entertaining aspects to the game. The app features over 120 holes on 7 different courses in the world boasting Read More

The gaming experience has really been pushed past a simple quick play and career mode. The game offers you to compete in tournaments you have to have made enough money to enter, as well as to upgrade your equipment. Comparisons With Let’s Golf being so popular and controlling the golf genre on the App Store, it was interesting to see how it would compare to Tiger Woods. A Closer Look at EA's 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour'
Calendar16 Mon, 04 May 2009 14:31:49 UTC +00:00
A few of days ago we posted our first impressions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour [App Store] from Electronic Arts.  Since then, we've spent more time putting around this latest installment in EA's 11 year old golf franchise and can provide further reactions. As mentioned in our previous post, Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a golf game of the realistic, simulation sort as opposed to the more casual golf titles, such as one can readily find on the Nintendo Wii platform.  If realism, as opposed to bouncy music, rainbow colors, and enlarged heads is your thing, then you're in EA's target audience on this one.  (And that's not to say that the more festive variety of golf titles are to be discounted -- we love Gameloft's Let's Golf, for instance.) Tiger Woods PGA Tour lets you create your own players and customize them through attributes such as sex, skin color, and Read More

05.01.09        App Score: 8/10    is the first sports game I’ve played that is as close to the desktop version as an iPhone and iPod touch can get. Okay, I’m sticking my neck a bit on that one, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour is a heck of a game in nearly every way. Notice I said “nearly,” which should clue you that this game still needs some work. First, a quick overview of Tiger Woods PGA Tour by EA Sports’ many features. You can play as or against Tiger Woods and four other PGA Tour golfers such as Retief Goosen and Natalie Gulibs. Woods is at home on the iPhone
Slickninja 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Its easy to compare iPhone version to the big console versions of the game, and to simply dismiss essentially a lighter version of full blown Tiger Woods console ports on the 360/PS3/PC/Mac would be missing the point. The much more accurate comparison is to the DS verison. The iPhone version may have one less course than the previous Nintendo DS version, and a few less opponents but also lacks commentary, the graphics and swing modeling. Some may be put off by a $10 iPhone game, but considering its a superior product to the DS version for roughly $15-20 less, its hard to complain. Also to prove viable for future larger games EA first has to test the water. I hope Woods does well. Its a good game, good graphics, butter smooth frame rate and a great swing model, plus with some good character building features with equipment upgrades.
This game rocks!
I_am_McLovin :-) 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I've been waiting for this for so long and I must say it was definately worth the wait. This game is unbelievable and tons of fun. I can't wait to see future updates. Possibilities are endless: More players!!!! Trophy balls! More player customization: use pics from built in library? Heartbeat/ widescreen when going for eagles or close approach shot!
Amazing!

The only thing I can say is wow! It's amazing they can take the best things that is tiger woods golf and port it over to a cell phone. But as we all know the iPhone isn't just any cell phone. This game cost a fourth of comparable games on other portable devices. Get this game now, you'll be glad you did.
Thank God Finally!!!
=FLO= 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I have been waiting for this app since I got my iPhone over a year ago, and I am not disappointed at all!!! Great graphics and gameplay. My only issues for future update: It should be an option to change the inverted aiming, it currenly is set so when aiming you drag your finger right to aim left, you drag up to aim short etc... Also you should be able to change where you hit on the ball, under, top etc... Also sounds are swaped, driver sound for irons, iron sound for driver. Previous Tiger mobile games have had a legend mode where you play diverent people in different scenarios, that would be nice. This is great for a 1st edition though.
too many bugs

I'm not really much of a fan of EA as a company. They do a lot of things that gets under my skin; time and again they demonstrate their priorities of maximizing profit over quality/innovation in the gaming industry.
Dont buy

Better than Let's Golf
DreamKill 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Let's Golf was a great game but Tiger blows it away in terms of depth and advanced controls. The ability to fade and draw the ball is a great plus and the 7 courses provide twice the number of holes. Well worth $9.99. It's nice to finally see a great sim sports game on the App Store.
Tiger In The Palm of My Hand

I am really amazed at the graphics on this thing, not to mention the details EA took to being voice overs to the game. Worth $10 There are some minor glitches, I am sure things that can be fixed with an update. But if you love Tiger Woods on your console, you'll love it on you iPhone or iPod touch!
Allsome.

It's amazing what EA has pulled off here. They've met the challenge of creating a product that uses the iPhone's features to their advantage instead of just for novelty's sake. The controls are easy to get going with and yet leave plenty of room for the mastery of them that you'll soon desire. Content? Oh this puppy's got that in droves. Create a player, 7 actual PGA courses, upgradeable equipment and ability, different play modes. Yeah, online multiplayer would be groovy, but patience young Padawan. The look of this game exceeds expectations. Graphically stunning and complete. Are there times it stutters? Yep, just like the big console versions do. It is on an iPhone/iPod people. Graphics - 9/10 Gameplay - 10/10 Content - 10/10 Replayability -10/10 (oodles fits nicely) You'll get your $10 worth and it far less fattening than that greasy lunch out you're thinking about.
Great game golf for the iphone
SMG99 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
A really good adaption of Tiger Woods for the iphone. The swipe swing mechanic is very fun. Lots of Depth. Good stuff. Online wish it had online play. Maybe next year.
Fantastic!
Controller2k 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I purchased "let's golf", which is pretty good. But let's face it, "real" golf is better. Considering this is a phone/PDA game it's incredible. Graphics are good and very smooth. Sounds are nice. Many courses. Great feeling touch interface for swinging that I find much more natural than the 3-tap method in let's golf. And the game has a good console-quality polish to it, which up until recently was really missing from the AppStore. Now all we need is online play. :) highly recommended.
Great game

Fantastic

Great control idea and I prefer playing this version over the current Wii version. Look forward to a multiplayer update (same idevice).
So far, it's VERY good!

Rivals the console game!!
ADEKx 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is a great game! It most all the options and game play of the console game but it may even been a little better with the touch screen technology. Love it!
The wait is over
cfrazer66 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Been waiting a long time for this release, I have only played a few holes, but so far it is AWESOME. Graphics are great, and game play is as close to console gaming that i could expect on my Touch.
Awesome

Very fun and addicting! Finally a real game for the iPhone! Make more like this and I'll be broke!
Enjoyable
Bones3D 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
With the exception of Gameloft's "Let's Golf" title, this is probably the best golf experience you'll find on the iPhone to date. The controls do take some getting used to at first, but are fairly intuitive once you figure it out. One issue I have with the game is that it lacks an on-screen arial map of the entire course as you're playing that would allow you to see the direction and range of your shot before taking it. This kind of makes the game feel like it has a noticeable blind-spot not usually seen in most modern golf titles. With any luck, such a feature should be trivial to add in a future update.
Finally!!!!
Tvguy2412 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
What took so long? I've been watiing too long for this game and love the long awaited results. The game play & graphics are awsome!
Finally real courses

Tired of poorly designed fake gamer courses. Finally real strategic courses.
Worth Every Penny
Brandon Trout 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Awesome and worth every penny. Does crash from time to time but you never lose progress. Also, would be nice to aim by moving the bullseye and not the course itself.
Fantastic
Feeferbo 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Putting is tough, and crashed occasionally, but a ton of fun. Awesome graphics. Well worth 10 bucks.
Amazing!

Best Game Yet!
Gnerd1015 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This is the best game to date that I have played on my iPod touch! Games are really beginning to blossom on the Iphone/ iPod touch and Tiger Woods PGA Tour is the most recent proof of that! The gameplay is outstanding, and very smooth.I think the swing control is brilliantly done! It also features play by play commentary which also adds to the games excellent presentation. You may create a golfer to play with, or play with one of several pros, including Tiger Woods himself. It also offers 7 18 hole PGA courses, such as Pebble Beach! The graphics are also well done and I think they are comparable to the PSP. The depth of this title is great! There is even a tournament mode with a calendar of events. There are many things you can adjust, such as green and fairway speed! This is the first game I have played on the iPod touch that made me feel I was playing on a dedicated portable videogaming platform. Some people may balk at the
Great GAME!

Best golf game ever! Nice job EA!
Challenging but worth it
Singerwantobe 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Don't let the complexity and the challenge initially turn you off. As you dig deeper the depth of play and options for upgrades and strategy make this a game that you'll play for a long time.
Thumbs-up
Seneschal 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Well done, one of the best games made.
Way Too Easy, but Plenty of Potential
Andy Ace in the Hole 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is way too easy, I haven't missed a putt in 2+ rounds. Through 3 holes on my 3rd round I'm at -31 with the next best at -10, Tiger is at -2 having completed his 3rd round, Mickelson is at -9 through 4 holes. The putts I've been able to make have been as long as 30 yards without a perfect finger stroke...ridiculous at least for having a golfer that starts with minimal putting skill. My tee shots are getting good enough that having a more demanding meter would provide minimal frustration while balancing the game a great deal, my only weakness is my irons and that doesnt matter since I haven't missed a put. I haven't bogeyed a hole and finally managed to miss a fairway. I'm sure I can love this game once some balance is brought with an update...Where is the difficulty setting? Only thing you can do is turn off Caddy tips but since the greens are hard to read on the iPhone its a guessing game more than one for interpreting the inclines/speeds of the greens.
Great game, weird bug
Beanturd 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.22
Great game but there's one weird bug. Whenever I'm losing badly, tiger woods tells me that I'm wasting his time and hes got to meet up with some chick. Also sometimes, a blonde lady chases me with a golf club on the course and it makes it very hard for me to concentrate. Otherwise, this game is spot on!
Stability update.
dpayne7252000 4.0 stars Version: 1.7.22
This update is more stable than his personal life is. Lol. Good game. I enjoy playing. User friendly.
iPhones are GREAT for Golf

gamer 123 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.22
I LOVE this game!!! Is there an option for 6 stars? The controls are incredilbe I really like how you can swipe to manipulate the direction of your ball spin. full 3D graphics are insane!! My favorite course is TPC Sawgrass but the fact they included so many courses for free is incredible! Keep doing what you are doing EA!

Bogyfre 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Always crashes. Have yet to complete a game without the game crashing. Please fix.
Save the commentary on Tiger's personal life.
El MoonDogg 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.22
Seriously people, no one cares what your thoughts are on Tiger's personal misdeeds. They want a review on the game. That being said, I think he should change his name to Cheetah Woods. I love this game almost as much as the console version. Great way to pass the time during boring lectures at school. What's the difference between Santa Claus and Tiger? Santa stops at 3 ho's!!! ('Santa only comes once a night' is also acceptable)
2nd time I'm lowering my rating.
McQ14 1.0 stars Version: 1.6.55
I didn't think EA could sink lower. I was wrong. In addition to my previous ratings, I'm adding further comments based on the 11-4-2009 update. Hers goes: They "fixed" the Pro Shop. Turns out to be a bad thing because all it is is a way to get you to buy an additional golf course to play on. That is total BS! The game still crashes like crazy - how about fixing that, EA? Also, while playing a tournament at Pebble Beach, I suddenly find myself on the 17th hole at St. Andrews! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they are not part of the same course. A company with the resources and experience of EA has absolutely no excuse for this. I will make sure to not only remove this game, but also to not give EA another dime in the future. Low class, EA. Low class. Other new issues not noted in prior rating, below: Pro Shop doesn't work. Tips flash by too quickly to read. But they don't need to be shown in the first place between holes. Just make a button to show tips if players want them. Original review: I've played all of the Tiger Woods golf games on various platforms and this is another good one. I'll get to the things that can be improved but first the good things: Loads quickly and gameplay is intuitive. No learning mode is really necessary, as some reviewers have complained about. It's just not that hard to learn how to play. Play alone or against AI opponents. Match play, stroke play, tournaments, etc. all keep it fresh. It's very inexpensive. There's more, but this is reason enough to like the game. A couple of things to fix: Big issue is crashing. I actually gave a positive review earlier because I hadn't experienced a crash. That was becUse I hadn't tried to play it in PGA Tour mode. As soon as I tried, it crashed. Not only that but it still took my earnings away for the entry fee, so I have to build up the cash again to re-enter! This is a major screwup and I would expect EA to make a game better than this. Needs an immediate fix. Sound of the club hitting the ball is random club sounds. You can hit a chip shot with you pitching wedge and it might make the sound of the driver off the tee. Gotta fix that. The audio commentary is the weakest I've ever seen in one of these games. The male announcer sounds like he only laid down his vocals because had to. Really lame. Bring back David Feherty! Graphics are glitchy too. Players' shadows fall ON THEM rather than on the ground. An obvious glitch that should have been caught during development. Otherwise a pretty good game.
Great game
The Straightness 3.0 stars Version: 1.6.49
But with the new update, I can't download the new course. When I click on the store, it doesn't open. Please fix!
Meh
Corncob Slim 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.22
Not worth the $. I've played 3 tournaments, won all three and have my uncustomizable golfer to his max potential. No reason to keep playing. Other problems include, but are not limited to: crash on startup, lame narration, water hazards uncrossable, put only from greens even when you are less than a yard away but on fairway, way too easy, non upgradable clubs, balls, etc. Only buy if you want to help Tigers wife with alimony. Lame.
Just leave tiger alone
