Tilt-Shift Generator - Fake, Miniature
Calendar16 Tue, 17 Jan 2012 15:38:02 UTC +00:00
Tilt-Shift Generator - Fake, Miniature’s iPhone app transforms your photography into toy camera photos. With handy pop-ups to direct you through the app, you create photos with highly vintage or highly modern aesthetics–depending on the direction you choose in manipulating the Tilt-Shift Generator’s effects. You create and share your toy camera inspired image by navigating through the icons at the bottom of the home screen. When you press an icon, a bar with additional tools appears just above the home screen’s main tool bar. You will appreciate that your photo remains on the screen, and the unobtrusive second band gives you options to adjust your photo without navigating between a screen with the image and a screen with the effects’ adjustment tools. This set-up makes for speedy results. You can choose to shoot a photo from within the Tilt-Shift Generator iPhone app or to select a photo from your device’s album. Read More

Favorite Four: Creative iPhone Camera Apps
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Mar 2011 18:30:44 UTC +00:00
By Chris Nitz on March 9th, 2011 Some of the best camera apps for the iPhone! Love it or hate it, the iPhone is a big player when it comes to on the go photography. Many people no longer buy point and shoot cameras as they already have their iPhone with them everywhere they go. Apple has dedicated a section of the App Store to Camera and Photography apps. There are even photographers who have dedicated columns to “iPhoneography.” If you happen to fit into the group of users that loves taking photos with your iPhone, but want something to help make those photos more unique, we have four apps perfect for taking your photos further. Hipstamatic:Hipstamatic was one of the first apps to take the iPhone camera and give it a retro feel. Now this app has become a must own for many people. App Showdown: Tilt Shifters

Posted 01/11/2011 at 10:05am | by J Keirn-Swanson It was only last year, we think, that tiltshift photography really took off in the digital public. It caught on big and apps that purport to do this are many, but which of them are really up to the task and which make this fun photo process the easiest? For starters, the effect only really works well when you have easily isolated subjects set in a scene with a long depth of field. This translates to mean that photos taken up close of a person are unlikely to yield very great results. It also means that pictures shot in under-optimal lighting conditions also tend not to render as well, as the backgrounds are already well out of focus. But with the right photo, the effects are something like magic. In short, tiltshifting involves selecting a portion of your photograph that will remain sharply Read More
It’s hard for me to talk about Instagram without gushing about its deceptively appealing attributes and sweetly addictive nature. After 2 weeks of compulsive pointing, shooting, sharing pics, I am no longer capable of reporting objectively about it. However, I invite you to read on for my take on why it’s unique and why it’s set to establish itself as a must-have app. Instagram made its debut just weeks ago on 6 October 2010 and is rumoured to have gained close to one million avid users in that short time. Available only for iPhone at the moment, this is a decidedly astonishing number. The already countless number of great photography, cameras, filters and effects apps notwithstanding, Instagram has merged photography and iPhone to form a special kind of love affair. One where ease and aesthetics rule. The best way to describe it is to say that it’s like twitter for photos. Read More
TiltShift Video for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 17:14:49 UTC +00:00
The news about this app comes from the phine fotographic folk at iPhoneography. Tilt shift photography is some of the most fun you can have on your iPhone (I use TiltShift Gen for this purpose), and so it stands to reason that Tilt Shift Videos should be the next step up, in a sort of Fun Plus kind of way. Please keep in mind that I haven’t tried the new TiltShift Video ($1.99) app for myself (and neither have the writerographers at iPhoneography), but it does look like an interesting idea. You can use the app to apply blur and saturation filters to the video being recorded on the iPhone (or iPod Touch 4G), to create an effect that’s a little more cinematic than your average smartphone video. Unfortunately, I don’t think I like what I’m seeing in the App Store reviews. One of the three current reviews complained of 15-20 minute Read More
TUAW's Daily App: TiltShift Generator Free
Calendar16 Mon, 06 Sep 2010 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
I finally picked up an iPhone 4 last Friday, and one of the best things about the new handset is the beautiful shots I've taken with the camera. I'm not a professional photographer by any stretch, and people who have actually done tilt-shift photography might have a whole lot of bones to pick with the "'shopped" version of the technique, but I've already had plenty of enjoyment from TiltShift Generator Free. It's one of a few apps on the store that will edit taken pictures to give them the short depth of field and selective focus that creates the effect. The aptly named TiltShift and Tilt Shift Focus are two other (slightly more expensive) options, but TiltShift Generator Free worked great for just messing around, and it has the added bonus of being completely free. With the free app, you get options to blur or "vignette" (that's the shadow effect seen Read More
The ethereal effects that accompany the rad crop to define this fab shot come via Mill Colour, Photoshop and TiltShiftGen apps. 1 Hans de Kort considers the iPhone "the Polaroid of today." Photoforge ($2.99 – review), which does a better job of mimicking Photoshop functionality than Photoshop.com Mobile,  is now multi-tasking enabled. There isn’t any actual background task completion for saving large images, but you can simply leave the app and come back to it to finish saving a file. This newest update also boasts an optimized image processing engine, but it’s honestly been a while since I’ve used Photoforge for me to tell the difference. I’ve recently been using a mix of Camera+, TiltShiftGen, and Pixelmator on the Mac for my image manipulation needs. Read More

Jay's 10 favorite iPhone apps of 2009
Calendar16 Thu, 31 Dec 2009 23:25:00 UTC +00:00
After I put together my list of 10 awesome free Mac apps for 2009, a lot of folks asked me when the iPhone list was coming out. How about ? Get ready, because I'm about to tell you how to spend those iTunes gift cards you got for Christmas. I've selected an eclectic little group of apps that includes games, productivity tools, chat and more, and it makes a great starter kit for anyone who's new to the iPhone. Advanced iPhone users might even discover a new gem or two. Strap in and tap your App Store icon ... here's 2009 in iPhone apps: The iPhone's built-in camera is pretty good, but by no means great. Tiltshift Generator can help you take some stunning photos in spite of the hardware, though. It mimics a toy-camera tilt-shift effect by blurring part of each photo and adding some vignetting. Reviews

Low-res output + bug = not ready for prime time
LLHB 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
First, let me say that I love the user interface of this app. It's simple, slick, perfectly functional, and the built-in help the first time through is a nice touch. The functionality of the app is pretty much the same as other apps of it's kind (ie, TiltShift), but the UI is definitely superior. TiltShiftGen adds a vignette control, which is nice, but it also only includes 1 blur type, where competitor TiltShift has 2 (Gaussian and Lens). So feature-wise, it's pretty much a tie. But that's where the good news ends.
ToyCamera Dev does it again. The *best* Tilt Shifting App. Period.
Leo of BORG 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Once again, the dev of QuadCamera, ToyCamera and OldCamera comes through with a tiltshifting app that's really easy to use.
Makes ordinary photos beautiful
Serendipityseeker 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
The two finger control over center and breadth of the effect is sublimely wonderful to experience. The vignette, contrast, brightness, and saturation controls complete the palmtop color darkroom. Great app, by far the best photo enhancer in the iTunes store, bar none. Update: after a week of use, I finally discovered the toggle to change from the default center sharp effect to a true tilt shift effect where it simulates altering the plane of focus. It's under the blur magnitude control. It's a button which switches from a dot to a dash icon. It would be easier if TS were the default instead of center sharp, but both effects are extremely useful.
Amazing Program & Developer
WSPhish420 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
This is the first iPhone app review I've ever written and I had to do so because this program is truly amazing! To be able to create tilt shift lens effects on an iPhone is awesome. The only reason I gave 4 stars for now is because the program doesn't yet give you the ability to save the image to a certain size (like small for email and full resolution for computer use). I have no doubt this program will be 5 of 5 stars after an update or two. I own all of the other camera effect apps this programmer has in the app store and they are all equally as incredible and fun. As a semi-pro photographer these series of apps allow my to leave some of my toy cameras at home (holga, diane, polaroid, etc) and shoot exclusively on the iPhone. I love them all!!
No full resolution save? Why?
Abspara 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
Beware this app saves at low resolution which Makes absolutely no sense! Great software hindered by a crappy output. This app screams for a better resolution save that's higher than 800. UPDATE this!!
This app has no value
yuok 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
I really do not understand this. This App is just a re-package of some functions from many Apps the author already put in the AppStore. Nothing new. I found 4 or 5 apps on my iPhone that could do the same thing. Regret bought this App.
Great
bowcheee 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
This app is really gooooood
Love it!
Solar Weather 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Every app this company has put out has been the very best. I have all of them. Trust me. You will not be let down by this app. And if you havent already done so, check out and by the different cameras made by this company. Thanks so much!
I spent a long time waiting for this app
andrew switzer 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
And it was worth it. It's perfect and really easy to use. Love it!
This may top even QuadCamera!
pamela2222 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
I haven't yet had a chance to play with all the pics I'd like to on this app, but what I've seen so far shows this to be as well made as the developer's other excellent apps, and even more versatile. This isn't merely a tilt shift sim. At .99 it's a steal, and it already has pride of place at the top of my first page of camera apps, next to QuadCamera, which has heretofore Been my fave cam app ever.
Wow!
krew317 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
This app is awesome! Worth every penny! I would pay 3$ for it
Excellent, that's it!
mahjr 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
This truly is the best of the ToyCam series. Perfect GUI, stable, and great start for future updates. Fabulous effects when using shots taken with OldCamera and especially ToyCamera! Just buy this!
almost perfect
madimay 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
Love this program.. only wish that you could save an imported imaged with the same high quality after applying effects. Image is reduced to kbs which is good for uploading to social sites but not as good if you want to apply effects on the fly and preserve the high quality image for image printing. Would love to have this available in upcoming updates
Game changer
suarkttam 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
No matter what any other review says, this is hands down the biggest game changer yet in photo manipulation apps for the iPhone. And by the way, contrary to what another reviewer said this is a tilt-shift simulation app because you can choose EITHER a circular field of focus OR a straight plane of focus.
Stunning work
Evan Walsh 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
This app is really well designed and fun to use. Plus, the results are awesome. It's the eel's hips!
Sick!!!
ThePhotographer1 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Might just be the best photo app yet.
Easy 2 use, nice results!
Well its just me 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
I'm happy with my purchase of this app! Easy to figure out and use. Fun to play with. The finished product looks good. I echo others' requests that saving to higher resolution would be nice.
Fantastic. Wait...update.
Max E.Pad 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
Great job Takayuki. Another wonderful app. What? Only .99? Buy it now! UPDATE: Low-res output? Come on Tak. Defeats the purpose....waiting for an update. Minus 1 star.
Almost perfect
Angry Robot 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
Another beautiful app from this developer. The only additions I'd like to see are higher res output options, and the ability to quickly return the color settings to their center default positions.
Excellent
Settle 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
More than for miniature effects, I like using this app for aperture effects and controlled blur since the iPhone lacks this. Outstanding app. Waiting for full resolution output, but still think quality is good enough. If you are that desperate Bout output from a phone you need a better camera to do real projects with.
Could be awesome, but it ain't.
6363637 2.0 stars Version: 1.00
Great interface but like previous reviewers pointed out, no full resolution. What a shame. Also, it'd be nice to have some of the ToyCamera presets, seeing as how ToyCamera doesn't support post-effects (and won't). Oh, and one (little) request: how about a square icon? I like all my icons to match. 
Fantastic
Crooked87 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
To get the best resolution, you've got to take the photo from within the app.
Nice app
mcbain2323 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
Works nicely. A before and after button would be helpful, as well as the ability to center the vignette as needed like you can with the blur. Otherwise, nice app.
Excellent
Jammypac 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Simple, powerful, elegant. A super class act.
Great App!
BlindBoy1 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
The interface of this app is a joy to use. It's obvious that serious thought was given here. Wish there was hi-res output, and am hoping for that in an update. Otherwise I love the shots I've taken with this app. It's become my default camera on the iPhone.
Much improved after 1.1 update
LLHB 4.0 stars Version: 1.10
Upadate 10/14/09, v. 1.1, 4 stars
Great buy.
therealJackWhite 5.0 stars Version: 1.10
Finally, the perfect little photo app. Easy execution, perfect concepts to get the wanted effects without doing it all for me. Only the third app review I've written out of 300 (purchased) downloaded apps. Other two were because I was so mad I purchased garbage. .99 is just fantastic. Well done. I would say it's the best app for the money I've bought yet.
