iOS: Sync on Launch vs Sync on Exit
Calendar16 Thu, 29 Sep 2011 01:54:54 UTC +00:00
[Warning: this is one of the geekier posts I’ve written in a little while. If the words “sync” and “cloud” bore you to tears, might I recommend an older, simpler piece of mine which discusses the merits of drawing sheep on your touchscreen.] “Sync on exit” doesn’t really sound terribly exciting, but it has become one of my favourite features in my productivity apps, especially since I spend so much time and energy thinking about how to keep my data synced across my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Appigo’s ToDo and Guided Ways’ 2Do are great examples of the niche set of apps that are intelligent enough to synchronize your info with the cloud after you press the Home button, and I love them to death for doing so. When given the option, I prefer to sync on both startup and exit, but if forced to choose, I would definitely stick with Read More
Sherlocked?
Calendar16 Wed, 29 Jun 2011 03:43:37 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Jun 28, 2011 | Apple’s iOS 5 built-in a lot of new, basic functionality previously filled by 3rd party App Store apps, which effectively “Sherlocked” those apps, rendering them redundant in a post-iOS 5 world. Or did it? There’s a world of difference between basic functionality that serves the needs of only the most casual user, and advanced functionality with enough control and features to satisfy a hardcore pro. What Apple did with iOS 5, as with previous generations of iOS, is take away the entry-level business of several prominent 3rd party apps, but still left them with the premium, higher order market. While it’s always dangerous creating an enterprise based on glaring functionality holes Apple will almost certainly fill at some point in the future, there’s just as much opportunity building a great product that Apple’s entry into the space can benefit. Here are a 5 Read More

Top 5 task management apps for iPhone
Calendar16 Tue, 03 May 2011 20:46:00 UTC +00:00
Task management apps for iPhone are released into the App Store on almost a daily basis. My iPhone is not only a device I enjoy using in my personal time, it’s instrumental in the way I conduct business and keep myself organized. Between running my own business, contracting for a few companies, and writing for TiPb, it sometimes becomes a task to remember where I need to be or what I need to be doing. I have yet to find an app that combines all the tools I need but the mix of apps I use do a pretty good job of keeping me sane. Follow along for my top picks and to let us know what yours are as well! There are several list and task apps on the App Store and I’ve been through several of them. I recently found Wunderlist and fell in love. Not only is it Read More
I've been a Todo user since the iPhone app, then bought the iPad version, but I never tried the online service since Todo ties in nicely with my cloud todo service of choice, Toodledo. That may change now that Todo for Mac has been announced for the Mac App Store and features cloud sync with the Todo Online service. Previously you had to use Appigo's sync client on your Mac to sync your iOS apps, or use a third-party service like Toodledo. Todo for Mac is a compelling app even without sync, however, adding things like Task Zooming™ and Multi-Adaptive Windows™. Yep, those trademarked features sound pretty cool, but we'll have a hands-on later this week with more details. For now, know that Task Zooming allows you to change the amount of detail in a view, seeing perhaps only the todo itself, or more details, such as due dates, alert times, Read More

Making Toodledo bearable with userscripts
Calendar16 Wed, 22 Dec 2010 17:48:54 UTC +00:00
Toodledo makes for a pretty decent, free task manager: it’s based in the cloud and syncs over-the-air with a number of different iOS apps (2Do, Toodledo, ToDo, etc.), but the appearance of the web app, by default, is enough to make angels weep. Luckily for us, there are user scripts to fix that for free. After a bunch of googling I was able to find this MacOSX theme from earnjam that’s quite up to date and still being improved upon. It’s very snazzy and I love how much more organized all my tasks appear. If you don’t like that one, though, there are plenty more on UserStyles.org. Installing a given script is as easy as using the dialogue along the right side of the screen (just make sure to pick the right browser): If you’re using a site-specific browser like Fluid, just open a new tab (Cmd-T), visit the URL of Read More

Calendar16 Wed, 22 Dec 2010 21:02:41 UTC +00:00
To celebrate the season a whole bunch of apps are going on sale. Here's the most comprehensive list available for which apps are seeing a discount. Last month our Thanksgiving meals were stuffed with lots of deeply discounted apps, and it seems that publishers are getting into the Christmas spirit in much the same way. We’ve got a whole slew of apps available at rock bottom prices just in time for your holiday celebrations, many at their lowest prices ever. Make sure and act fast though, as many of these apps are available for an extremely limited time. Also, be sure and keep checking this post regularly, as we’ll be updating all the new deals as they are announced. Much like Santa, we don’t stop working until Christmas, and we’re paid in milk and cookies. Speaking of, if you could leave out some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that would be delightful. Read More

Todo 4 Makes Task Management Even Easier
Calendar16 Thu, 30 Sep 2010 14:34:48 UTC +00:00
By Chris Hall on September 30th, 2010 Todo 4 update makes task management a bit easier. Todo, from Appigo, has long been one of the best task management apps on the iPhone, and now the iPad. Back in Jan, 2009, when we did the original review, we touted its streamlined interface and its free online syncing as the features that put the app above the rest, but the new Todo 4 adds even more to the already impressive app. The major update for Todo 4 is its implementation of iOS4 features. With the new update, users can take calls or switch to other apps during synchronization, and can use local notifications to continuously update the icons badge so you know exactly how much you have to get done. The iPhone 4 version (and soon the iPad version) also uses local notifications to remind you of tasks, so you’ll get what you Read More

Producteev Launches API for Task Managing Apps
Calendar16 Tue, 13 Jul 2010 11:00:00 UTC +00:00
Producteev, the up-and-coming task management service which launched the newest version of its service earlier this month, just launched its first API. With this release, developers can now make use of Producteev's scheduling back-end to create their own online, desktop and mobile front-ends for Producteev or integrate the service into their existing apps. The company is also launching a developer contest, with a cash prize of $2500 for the winning app and $1000 for the runner-up. According to Producteev's CEO Ilan Abehassera, the company wants to enable the developer community to "build their dream task management app for whatever it is they are using today." Producteev itself is already using the API in all of its tools, including the company's iPhone app, IM clients and upcoming desktop applications. As we noted in our review of the latest version of Producteev last month, the service takes on a number of established task Read More
Takenlijst Toodledo uitgebreid met notities
Calendar16 Mon, 14 Jun 2010 10:46:11 UTC +00:00
Vandaag is versie 2.0 uitgekomen Read More
Nine iPhone task managers to get you organized
Calendar16 Wed, 26 May 2010 22:48:30 UTC +00:00
I keep sticking with the same combo as Frank. I use ToDo on iphone and ipad syncing to and thru Toodledo. I use Jott and email to feed ToDo. I also use Notebook (also from Appigo) as a note/data keeper/db. It integrates well with iPhone ToDo and Toodledo. Josh Gard I’ve been using Remember The Milk (Pro account) since last fall, after switching from Toodledo. For me to consider a task manager app, it must have a web interface and must be able to sync over the air. In addition, be able to send me push alerts to my iPhone on a per-task basis (ie. some recurring tasks I don’t need alerts for but I still track them on my task list, other important one-off tasks I want push alerts for). While Toodledo also met my requirements, the web interface felt complicated and stuffed with too many features that I simply had no use Read More

Appigo’s Todo For iPhone On Sale For The First Time Ever
Calendar16 Sun, 16 May 2010 20:05:25 UTC +00:00
To celebrate the recent launch of Todo for iPad, Appigo has placed Todo for iPhone and iPod touch on sale for the very first time since its launch in late 2008, but only for a limited time. Todo is able to help you easily keep track of and complete all of your daily, weekly, and monthly tasks thanks to the laundry list of features the team was able to pack into it.  Some of those handy features include quick task entry, drag and drop organization, task sharing via email, reminders, projects and checklists, full calendar view, the ability to sync with Outlook and iCal wirelessly via the free Appigo Sync, and the ability to sync with Toodledo.com. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in Todo world.  Appigo was recently forced to remove the ability to sync with Remember the Milk from both versions of Todo due to a conflict between Read More

Appigo’sTodo for iPhone has been one of the most popular task management apps in the App Store since its launch in mid 2008 thanks to its general ease of use, pain-free syncing, and third-party app support, so it comes as no surprise that Appigo is trying to duplicate that success with the iPad version of Todo by including many of the same features inside of a shiny new interface. Todo for iPad is first and foremost about the experience. The app makes your iPad look and feel like a real-life daily planner, with clasping rings, paper inserts, pouches and the works.  All of the graphical touches don’t come at a performance cost either as one might expect.  The app performs beautifully, with pages flipping and menus popping up in almost an instant.  This new design is not only aesthetically pleasing, however, it also makes navigation simple and logical. “We’re extremely pleased Read More

Hidden Gems: Keeping It All Synced
Calendar16 Wed, 01 Jul 2009 20:52:55 UTC +00:00
I have an unwritten rule about my iPhone – nothing can be exclusively stored on it. Lots of bad things can happen to an iPhone. The device can be lost, stolen or destroyed. The apps are constantly updated and and they can be accidentally unsynced, deleted or corrupted. It can get jailbroken or restored too. I’ve lost my content enough times over the years that I’ve been pursuing ways of ensuring that wouldn’t happen on my iPhone. I don’t want any of my contacts, calendars, photos, videos, tasks, text messages or notes to be lost. Ever. This week I’ll talk to you about some well-downloaded apps and services that you might want to give a second look at. But, first, I want to point you to a couple cool apps I found this week. I don’t know what the replay value of this game will be, but for a few minutes Read More
06.09.09        App Score: 8/10    by LizzardWerks was recently released in the App Store as a productivity app that lets you create shortcuts for words, phrases, and even paragraphs that you frequently use in communication. Essentially, you can create your own customized short hand dictionary and then export the text from Short Hand to other frequently used apps like Mail. While I’m a fan of efficiency, I could never understand why every text message I ever received from my teenage son contained stupid acronyms and lingo that weren’t really words. Once upon a time it really bothered me to the point of chastising him for not using proper English. Then, I became a text-savvy parent and started to realize that in addition to it being a way to bypass the various per-text character limitations imposed by different carriers, it was really just a time-saver. With Short Hand, you Read More
1 Billion Apps Later - Here Are Some of Our Favorites
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Apr 2009 22:30:01 UTC +00:00
Today, Apple announced that its customers have now downloaded a whopping one billion applications from its App Store. Here at ReadWriteWeb, quite a few of us have iPhones, so we thought that this would be a good time to feature some of our favorite apps. We download and test a lot of iPhone apps, but here are the ones that have stood the test of time for us. The App Store is now home to over 35,000 applications, so this is obviously only a small selection of applications, but these are the apps that we don't hesitate to recommend to our friends. We couldn't get feedback from everybody on the RWW team (and our BlackBerry users weren't very forthcoming with suggestions either), but here are the recommendations from Richard MacManus (R), Marshall Kirkpatrick (M), Frederic Lardinois (F), and Phil Glockner (P). Excellent Application especially when combined with Toodledo
aMarque 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I tried most of the free tasking/todo applications but found them mostly lacking. Then I started looking at Things and OmniFocus. I was leaning towards OmniFocus, but felt that without a Mac I would be missing the synchronization. Enter ToDo with Toodledo synchronization. Now, I have a online tasking/todo that synchronizes with ToDo for offline use. One should note that Toodledo is iPhone webapp enabled and can be used without ToDo. However, ToDo adds a nicer interface and more importantly offline capability. Adding Jott (not the Jott iPhone app) to Toodledo allows me to add tasks via phone. This combo gives me the following capabilities:
Great Application
rjackb 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I think this is the best To-do application that I've seen in the App store so far. "Omni-whatever-it-is-called" is much too complicated but is probably perfect for those with OCD (no offense intended to anyone with OCD). "Things" looked good at first then I discovered that you are forced to drill down to see any of your to-do list items. They also mysteriously leave scheduled tasks out of their Scheduled category even though they are scheduled but happen to occur Today or the Next day. "Todo" got it right in the usability department by displaying your to-do items directly on the first/main screen, by putting the plus sign for adding new items in the right place, and by keeping the complexity to a minimum. I only have a couple of suggestions for the application, which I will be sending to the vendor, but still give it 5 stars.
4 1/2 Stars! GREAT APP for simple or complex users!
wahoo_2010 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
The only reason I didn't give it a 5-star is that it's new, and although it doesn't have any bugs, there are a few comestic features I'd like to see more to make it Apple-grade. It earns 4.5-Stars though!
Perfect To Do Application
CelestialRob 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Firstly do not follow those who say this is the same as the freebies. It isn't. They obviously have not tried it.
Good, but a couple of missing one key features.....APPIGO please read and make and update resolving
Mel1982 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is very simple and easy to use. I highly recommend this app to those in need for an easy to use app for to do lists for the iphone or ipod touch. Really good integration with my iPhone and contact list when creating a to do involving a phone call to a contact. It would be fantastic if we had the same integration with our mail on the iphone since you have a to do list available named "inbox". Also, we also need a feature for this app that allows us to set up a reminder alert just like how the calendar function on the iphone that has alerts for upcoming appointments. These, I believe, are some major omissions to an otherwise great app. Appigo, please add these two features. All those that are writing reviews, please include these 2 as "wants" so that Appigo realizes how important they are in a to do application.
Looks nice, but useless for GTD with Milk
appenz 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
The app looks pretty good, but the synchronization functionality is extremely limited. As a result for anyone doing something like GTD with Remember the Milk, this will not work.
10 Bucks...Yes Definitely...10 Bucks!

Well, here is my first review I've ever done. I really abide by reviews I think they are important when you are spending your earned money, but never gave any, until now. Let me start by saying this product IS worth your ten bucks period. I find it even more useful than the built in calendar, because believe it or not it's more intuitive, that speaks big going up against the most intuitive companies in the world. I've always wondered how I could get my phone to completely set me up to do something that I needed to do since I've bought it. I soon found that the calendar wasn't the answer since I can't make calls through the application itself. This is the closest thing to achieving that, and it takes it even a step further with the emails and the website connections. Only two things that kept me from giving these guys 5 stars is knowing they can do better and will. I'd personally like to see first, an alert of some type without having to enter the app first, which I believe is mostly up to Apple to open up, secondly and task type that actually could connect to the maps app and help route you to a saved location. I'm looking forward to consistent future improvements with this app, keep it up Appigo. And defiantly hit the buy button on this one ya’ll. Good investment.
The Best To Do App Available!!!
JNHohol 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Very Impressive for a $10 app to have such a positive rating, but that’s because its worth it. I am very glad that I found this app, though I was skeptical at first for paying $9.99. It is worth every penny!
This is the ONE app I have been waiting for since the iPhone first came out
spthealien 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I was very hesitant to move from a Windows Mobile device to an iPhone because the iPhone had a major lack of a task list--and NO, the notepad doesn't count. I sync with a PC and have wished for a task application. Nevermind the iPhone's weak calendar (at the time), nevermind the non-searchable contact list (again, at the time)--I wanted a task program that would allow me to date the tasks, mark them completed, archive the completed tasks--all locally, without having to go online. It's fine that it doesn't sync with Outlook--at least I can connect to Toodledo when I am on my desktop computer. They syncronizing is fast and very easy. The performance of the program is good, even with my several dozen tasks it has to load. The 1.01 version seems to have introduced a "number corner" to show how many tasks you have to do today, and it even has filters. I don't care much for the complete tasks "skinning" but it doesn't get in the way. I highly recommend this program.
Very helpful indeed
D to the M 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I purchased this program because i can't stand to have post it notes around the monitor to attempt to be organized. This program is amazing. I purchased this and immediately signed up with toodledo. The sync function is helpful when im at my desk i can set up tasks and when im walking around the office building sync them so i can remember them on the go.
Incredible! The Best Todo Program I've Ever Used!
cbvend73 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The best $10 you will ever spend! If you want to keep track of your todos and have the instant ability to sync with a web-based todo information manager (Toodeldo), this is simply the best $10 you will ever spend. Not to mention this is one of the nicest interfaces out there. The developers have seemlessly integrated all the iphone features into the program. And seemlessly leverages things like the address book, e-mail, and the internet.
Love it!
DubMaker 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am not too wild about having to pay $25/year for Remember The Milk Pro, but the Google Calendar/RTM/Todo integration is excellent. Exactly what I was looking for. Cheaper than MobileMe, too.
Best of The To Do Lists
atavision 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
I have been road testing this app for about a month now and it has been just great.
Best. App. Ever.
yoshway 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
Sometimes the sync w/ rtm doesn't work tho n I have 2 reset the sync data... They're always one hour out on email support tho so no worries!
Works Well
Hhhhgffhuusdt 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
Integrated & flexible - just what I was looking for. Locked up on me once but otherwise has functioned smoothly. I'd like to see a little "note" icon in the task bars to indicate if you've entered any text in the Note field for that particular task, so you remember to check. Also, would it be possible to have another check-off list within a task, such as a shopping list under the task heading of "Grocery Shopping?"
Great app

Well worth the money.
Just what I wanted
Anodeyes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I truly appreciate the ease with which this application syncs with my ToodleDo account. It's a seamless integration that makes managing task lists a breeze. I enthusiastically recommend this application.
Great app that should get better
DG 123456789 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This app does what I need, provide an a quick, easy to use, syncable, and offline usable front end to my Toodledo account. It is simpler than Toodledo, but that has actually helped me get focused and organized. The syncing, and filtering is fantastic and the planned improvements should make it even better. Two things I hope show up in improvements would be star support for Toodledo and for the priorities to be the same values (Toodledo is kind of backwards of the standard, with 3 being a high priority, Todo follows the standard convention of 1 being the highest).
Best To-Do App on iPhone right now
edshull 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
First off, it's amazing to me that after all this time Apple still hasn't made a to-do list that sync with iPhone. To-do lists should be part of Mobile Me.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
Jawman 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I was a toodledo user and was hesitant to pay for a "ToDo" application. After looking through the details and seeing the synchronization with toodledo and outlook (via free 3rd party tool), I wanted to try it out. This is something I've been waiting for on the iphone for quite a while. It makes my day to day task management much easier and I always have it with me (even if I don't have cell/internet coverage). I would recommend this to anyone. It is definately worth $10. Money well spent.
Excellent App!
wordtamer 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
I love the capability of this app, the ease of use, the syncing capability to Toodledo (prior user), and the feedback of the developers. My only request would be to color-code or color block each section. My thanks to the developers!
Update deletes ToDo's
McTazz 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I have been using personal computers since 1982. Never have I had an application update wipe out all of my data. Update 1.1.1 wiped out all information. I will discontinue using this application. You decide.
Super, look and feel of Apple apps
ralphdaily 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I am a to do list junky and this is the best one I've seen. It is easy to use, syncs almost instantly with a free toodledo account I set up for desktop, and it is EASY to input tasks. It is $10 but it is worth it. Only missing function for me is ability to input repeat tasks but it is in the new update that is working its way through the system. I am so happy with my 1st gen iPhone with Todo, I decided to forget about the 3G. The app looks and feels like it was written by Apple.
Goldilocks of todo apps
ItsDarts 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
For version 1.2, this app rocks. I call it the Goldilocks of todo apps because it has just the right amount features without skimping and you don't need to be an engineer to use it. The home screen icon tells you what is due today, reminding you to look to see what needs to be done if you place the icon on your front screen. This may find it's way to the bottom row icons. One thing I'd like to see added is auto save. If I edit something, then back out of the edit screen it should save my edit. Hitting SAVE on every screen is a minor annoyance, and I've lost entries by forgetting to hit SAVE. I'd also like to see an alarm feature added as well for appointments with customizable (ring tones?) alarms. Syncing with toodledo has been flawless and I like this interface better than tooledo's web interface. Google calendar has a widget for this as well but it doesn't seem to remember me and have to log in each time, but it's certainly not a deal breaker since the iPhone UI is really all you need. Apple should include this app in version3 and this review will get the 5th star if I see the features I mentions above in the next release.
Now the best to do app on the store
Trout 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
I've been waiting patiently for the to do app that does everything I need. Even with the many apps available, and the many I tried, all were lacking something. My own personal list of "things I want in a to do app" are finally met with the newest version.
Glaring problem that probably doesn't affect you!
NReilingh 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
I love this app, and I love how I can sync it with iCal, but after upgrading to version 2 its usefulness to me was immediately nullified by the fact that syncing the new version with iCal requires a version of Appigo sync that hasn't been released yet. WTF? Epic fail. I'm sure they'll fix it soon enough, but I paid for this and use it every day, so this oversight is not the kind of thing that should be happening. Also, their website is not up-to-date.
Simply amazing, the most used app on my iPhone. Period.
Weezilv 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Leaps and bounds ahead of the other productivty apps. Quite simply, i have "gotten more stuff done" because of this app! Perfect combination of features, lightweight/speed, and ease of use. Intensely well designed, I can't rave enough: i love this app and i use it every single day. Syncing with toodledo is perfect, and appigo really listens to its customers! Thanks and keep the features coming!! Update (v2.0.1) - these guys really listen to their customers and deliver with speed! New features, bug fixes, you name it. Colors/names? Fixed. Scolling issue? Fixed. Can't say enough about the app- together with toodledo, it had increased my productivity *tremendously*. thanks!
Even better than Things
Portola 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I've used Things (Cultured Code) for three months, on both my Mac and iPhone. I like it a lot, especially on the Mac, but there are a few little problems for me on the phone. ToDo had such great reviews I had to try it. I switched to ToDo for a week, then went back to Things. But eventually I decided ToDo was better for me. It doesn't have the great Mac app counterpart, but the iPhone app is simply amazing. I love its clarity: lists on the main page are like folders--a task is in at most one. A task only has a single date. I love its flexibility: Checklists are really great! Any task can be a project! Focus has a simple definition of what's in it.
The best
Mango himself 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
Push notifications are available! You rock!!! I used Toodledo for iPhone, Things, RTM, Ultimate To Dos and other applications. I did not find much use for this app until the recent update. I am using it exclusively and like it a lot. The main advantage over all others is the project feature with subtasks. IT ROCKS! Missing: Landscape keyboard. I substitute by using Notes by Appigo.
Push is perfect!! 5 stars, 10 if I could!
zml567 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
I've been waiting for this since I got my iPhone a year ago. I use this to sync with Toodledo, and a middle of the road GTD'er. This app had a strong 4 stars from me before, but now I wish I could give it 10! My iPhone has really become my complete personal assistant, complete with reminders! I had tried the iPhone Toodledo app since it had push sooner, but for push to work there, you have to set alerts through the website (which I don't use much- much more handy on iPhone). Also as a non-pro user I'd be limited to 5 alerts. This app makes it super easy- just set your due time, and how far in advance to alert you on tasks in the settings. Done and done. By FAR my favorite iPhone function. THANKS!!! :)

Very useful - Best App I've found of this type.
McQ14 5.0 stars Version: 3.0.1
I really like it, if for nothing else than the ability to finally have a full-featured GTD app that will sync with my iCal. Of course, there's more to like, such as the nice interface and the ability to customize it. But I have been looking for the right app to sync with my heavily used iCal, and this is it!
