Need some games to show off that new iPad's Retina Display and LTE capability? These games will help. Just bought a new iPad? Congratulations. Sure, tweets may come in clearer than ever, and videos at 1080p quality, but what’s the real way to show off that beautiful new 2048×1536 screen? With games, of course! And how about some online games to take advantage of the LTE option available? Yes, please! Here’s ten titles that show off just how crisp the new iPad’s Retina Display looks. Mass Effect: Infiltrator: This Mass Effect spinoff, developed by Iron Monkey Studios (Dead Space for iOS), has just been updated with iPad Retina Display support. It’s now pushing over three times the pixels as the console Mass Effect 3. Our own Rob Rich called it “the best cover shooter on the App Store,” which makes it a great and stunning way to rebound from the polarizing Read More
Apple showcases apps ready for the retina iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 16:15:32 UTC +00:00
Apple wants you to enjoy that brand new retina iPad and has compiled a list of apps that are ready for the high-resolution display. It includes many of the big-name apps that were quick to get their app updated after Apple’s iPad announcement last week. The list includes entertainment apps, productivity apps, games, and more. Kelly spent the last three years covering mobile technology at places like BGR, Gizmodo and The Unofficial Apple Weblog. Before writing, she spent a few years working with and teaching others how to use Adobe Flash and Macromedia Director. Even earlier than that, she spent six years working on her Ph.D in Microbiology. When she's not writing, she can be found fishing the lakes and hiking the mountains of Western Maine with her husband and children. Read More

Gizmodo has pieced together a list of iPad apps and games that are deemed “Retina Ready,” ranging from Twitter and Tweetbot to Infinity Blade 2 and Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation. Check out the full list just ahead, and post in the comments if you know of any other App Store titles that take advantage of the extra pixels… Read More

It's iPad day and many of you are looking for the best Retina-capable apps to install on your new Apple tablet. Apple's got you covered with a section of the iTunes app store dedicated to apps updated to support the iPad's new retina display. Apple's list will get you started, but it isn't exhaustive and only includes major apps like Tweetbot and Evernote. There are many other retina-ready apps that are not being showcased by Apple. We won't be able to list every single retina app in the App Store, but we will cover some of our favorites below. If there are any that we have missed, please let us know in the comments! And here is the list from Apple: Read More
List of Games Updated for the New iPad Retina Display
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 11:00:38 UTC +00:00
Arguably the biggest addition to this year's version of the iPad (or at least, the most immediately noticeable one) is the inclusion of a Retina Display screen that ups the resolution to a monstrous 2048 x 1536. As anybody who has upgraded from an older device to an iPhone 4 or an iPhone 4S, you know that the Retina Display screen is a stunning upgrade in person and makes all other mobile device screens look inferior in comparison. Such is the case with the new iPad's fancy screen, it really needs to be seen to be believed. For anybody upgrading to a new iPad today, or if this is your first foray into the world of the iPad, then chances are you're interested in having the games that can show off the new screen as you gloat to your friends. Here we've compiled a list of games that have been updated Read More

Apparently Walmart will be selling them in just a few short hours, well before Apple itself does tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, the first direct-to-consumer shipments should be hitting anytime now. Long story short, a lot of people are going to be getting the new Retina display iPad over the next several hours. Unsurprisingly, the Retina-ready apps are already flowing in. Calendar16 Wed, 28 Dec 2011 23:00:03 UTC +00:00
I love video games as much as the next guy, as long as the next guy doesn’t spend hours a day grinding through the upper levels of Call of Duty or the latest Super Mario creation. Plants vs. Zombies updated, and a few other app deals
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Sep 2011 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
PopCap has updated the Plants vs. Zombies iOS app with a few new game mode options, purchaseable with the in-game currency at Dave's crazy store. The modes are all different and available in purchases of three each, featuring everything from a mode where you fight invisible zombies to a special bowling mode, and even a variant of PopCap's own Bejeweled called "Beghouled Twist." If you don't want to earn the in-game currency yourself, PopCap's also offering in-app purchases for in-game coins that will unlock each of the modes, so that's another way to go. Elsewhere on the App Store, EA has released Snood Free, a free version of the popular Bubble Bobble-style game (along with Snood Free HD for iPad). This version leaves multiplayer out and contains ads, while the original paid versions of the game are still online. Disney has also launched a lite version of the popular JellyCar 3, Read More
'Touchgrind BMX' Now Has Universal iPad Support
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Sep 2011 13:00:29 UTC +00:00
In further BMX-related news this morning, those handsome Swedish chaps from Illusion Labs have gone and made their multitouch masterpiece Touchgrind BMX [$4.99] Universal in a brand new update. Touchgrind BMX launched back in May and we liked it a whole bunch in our review. It retained the same impressive technological aspects of the original Touchgrind [$4.99/HD] with its 3D visuals and smart use of multitouch, but offered a much more varied set of levels to perform your tricks and a much more favorable behind the back camera angle. The Touchgrind BMX berry only became more plump and juicy with updates that we detailed when we sat down with Illusion Labs at WWDC this year, namely proper Retina Display visuals and TV-Out support. Now you can add Universal iPad support to that list as well, and this is actually the very first Universal game from Illusion Labs. I wouldn't mind seeing Read More

Application Review: Touchgrind BMX
Calendar16 Sun, 05 Jun 2011 19:46:47 UTC +00:00
posted by Marcus Nguyen on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 12:46 pm.   Just three years ago, after Illusion Labs formed, they decided to venture into the iPhone gaming industry. Back then, it was really easy to create an instant classic, especially if the game was made with quality in mind. Touchgrind came to life on November 26, 2008 and became a huge hit. Illusion continued on the success of this game with other lesser-known games like: Foosball, Labyrinth 2, and Sway. Nothing was really known about the evolution of Touchgrind. Two-and-a-half years after Illusion released the original Touchgrind, they decided to release the next generation of the game; this time, going about the biking route with Touchgrind BMX. The game offers great gameplay, gorgeous graphics, ample audio, rich replay value, and a big bang for your buck. Touchgrind BMX offers a rich and revamped gameplay that offers much more than Read More
It was just last week that Illusion Labs released Touchgrind BMX [$4.99], the bicycle-themed semi-sequel to their fabulous little skateboarding game Touchgrind [$4.99/HD]. We really loved Touchgrind BMX in our review, as it retained the essence of the first Touchgrind while also adding many new features and improvements. One thing we didn’t really like, though, was the rough edges on the visuals. The game looked quite nice overall, but some of the textures were a bit pixelated and edges were noticeably jagged. Illusion Labs is taking a stab at rectifying this with a new update that adds Retina Display support. This is exciting news on the surface but comes with a huge caveat: in order to push the larger high resolution assets the frame rate in the game takes a huge nosedive. It’s far from unplayable, but if you’re used to the silky smooth performance the game currently has then you’ll Read More

Touchgrind BMX Review

iPhone App $4.99 Our Review By Kevin Stout on May 27th, 2011 Rating: :: SICK! Touchgrind BMX is like the original game, Touchgrind, but with bikes instead of skateboards. Developer: Price: $4.99 Version Reviewed: 1.0.1 Device Reviewed On: iPhone 3GS Graphics / Sound Rating: Game Controls Rating: Gameplay Rating: iPhone Integration Rating: User Interface Rating: Re-use / Replay Value Rating: Overall Rating: Touchgrind BMX is similar to a previously released game by Illusion Labs titled Touchgrind. In Touchgrind, the player controls a skateboard with two fingers (symbolic of two feet). Touchgrind BMX is similar but the two fingers are controlling a bike. The previous Touchgrind game is great and Touchgrind BMX is even better. But they both suffer from the same problem that I simply can’t get over. Keeping two fingers on an iPhone screen simply covers up way too much of the screen to have a full grasp of what’s Read More
TUAW's Daily iPhone App: Touchgrind BMX
Calendar16 Fri, 27 May 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
Illusion Labs' Touchgrind was one of the first iPhone games I ever saw in action. Honestly, it wasn't very successful as a full game, but using the iPhone's multi-touch screen to control a fingerboard was fun. Now, Illusion Labs is bringing the brand back with Touchgrind BMX, a game that changes your mode of transportation to BMX bikes, and opens up the view a bit. One of the big issues with Touchgrind was that, because the camera was top down, you had a hard time seeing exactly where you were going. Illusion has fixed this in Touchgrind BMX by moving to a more from-behind view, and setting the bike along a path rather than letting you freely explore. But you still control the bike with two fingers, flipping the handlebars around with one, and spinning the bike's body with the other. It still takes quite a bit of getting used to, Read More
Back in November of 2008, Illusion Labs’ Touchgrind [$4.99/HD] was a remarkable display of what was possible on iOS devices. It had fantastic 3D graphics, a great physics system, and excellent multi-touch controls that let you interact with a skateboard in a way unlike any game before it. Now Illusion Labs is back with a new entry in the series called Touchgrind BMX [$4.99] that takes the formula into the world of trick biking. All of the major traits that made Touchgrind so good carry over to Touchgrind BMX, and it even comes with many welcome improvements. But it’s also missing a few features that I would expect in a game like this, and the multi-touch controls come with a steep learning curve much the same way Touchgrind’s did. Such is the cost of innovation though, and Touchgrind BMX is definitely innovative. It’s also a ton of fun once you get Read More
