Friday Night Movie Night – Yamaha 01V Wireless
Calendar16 Sat, 19 Mar 2011 04:58:24 UTC +00:00
When mixing sound, I’ve always wanted a setup like this. To do what is going on in this video you need a Yamaha 01V classic, iPad, TouchOSC (iTunes link), MacBook Pro and USB to MIDI cable. To keep up with the progress just watch for updates on this YouTube channel: northatlantadj Read More
Video: DJing on an iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Dec 2010 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
In the video below, you'll find a pretty rocking DJ set thanks to an iPad and some other pretty gnarly hardware. This isn't exactly a DIY solution, since DJ Kutski is using Traktor Pro (that's the software on the screen above) and an X1 controller, both of which are pretty significant pieces of DJ gear. But the iPad is definitely a big part of the equation, and it's running TouchOSC, a neat app that allows you to hook up sound interfaces over Wi-Fi using some very configurable abstract graphics. There's not much in the way of explanation. You can definitely see him changing pitches and adjusting the volume in real-time (pretty impressive just running the controller over Wi-Fi), but non-DJs will probably have to look elsewhere to figure out exactly what's happening here. Then again, if nothing else, you can enjoy some nice iPad-driven beats on this Christmas Eve. Enjoy! Read More
Found Footage: An iPad-controlled robot that attacks
Calendar16 Sat, 18 Dec 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Thanks to the iPad and TouchOSC, robot Hikari can now be controlled by our favorite tablet device. The system for control on the iPad is powered by TouchOSC, a remote control application that sends commands to an external device using the Open Sound Control (OSC) protocol. These commands are sent to a Max patch running on a Windows-based PC. Commands are then relayed directly to the PC-connected robot. In the YouTube video after the break, owner Darkback2 uses this system to make Hikari walk and stand up from both a face-up and a face-down position. You should watch out, though, as the iPad controller can also be used to make Hikari attack, an action that fits in nicely with the video's drum-heavy theme music. For those that are wondering, ... no, robot Hikari does not dance. Thanks Bob for sending this in! Read More
Read More

Onyx Ashanti is an American musician living in Berlin. He specializes in "beatjazz," which he describes as being built on "live looping, sound design, and jazz improvisation." Using a Yamaha MIDI wind controller (that looks like an electronic clarinet) and an iPod touch running the TouchOSC app (US$4.99), Ashanti has been able to create some pretty incredible sounds. In the above video, Ashanti has the iPod touch strapped to his right hand, and he's able to use the accelerometer in the touch to translate his hand motions into control inputs for PureData audio processing. You may not necessarily like beatjazz, but you've got to admit it's cool that musicians like Ashanti are pushing the edge with Apple technology. [via Engadget] Read More
Are you the type of person who likes to handcraft your Christmas gifts? This year, perhaps you can make someone's Christmas Day just a little bit brighter and happier when they unwrap their very own iPhone-controlled, solar-powered Arduino tank. As you can view in the video above, the tank is pretty impressive in its current form; it could be used to strike terror into the hearts of unsuspecting senior citizens or small animals. It was built by Chris Rojas, a Colorado-based geek who used the iPhone TouchOSC app [US$4.99, iTunes Link], various parts from SparkFun including XBee modules and robot kits, and the Arduino open-source electronics prototyping platform to create this cool little tank. The tank can be charged by exposing a belly-mounted photovoltaic panel to the sun. Maybe it's just me, but I'd love to see one of these modded out with a spinning saw blade, lasers, and maybe a Read More

I'm so excited about this program. It's got a rad "Reaktor" aesthetic and tons of setups. Very easy to connect to the computer via wifi. If you want it to control things like Ableton Live (which doesn't have built-in OSC support...yet) you need to download OSCulator, which is free to a certain extent (it will constantly interrupt and ask you to register and get a license for at least $19). I believe that other OSC to MIDI applications exist but OSCulator is the one I have experience with (it is the standard for hooking up a WiiMote to your computer) and the one I will continue to use. So keep in mind that if this is your route, this program is only $1 but OSCulator is probably another $19 to get the program to work with MIDI.
My favorite iPhone app!
davidbayles 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
TouchOSC + Ableton + OSCulator = wireless mixing in the studio and stage (with synced controls)!!! I use Ableton as my live mixing console and have tried different controllers. Problems: 1. Expensive for anything the works (only motorized faders or rotary encoders allow you to stay synced with your software), 2. You're tethered to your computer/power outlet, 3. Bulky and cumbersome, 4. Functionality is fixed in time - no software update to give you another 6 banks of 8 faders. Compare that to pulling your phone out of your pocket, walking around anywhere in the room, adjusting levels, etc! My sound guy is so incredibly discrete, you'd think he was just some dude sending a text message! Totally revolutionary.
Radical

So easy, and totally mindblowing. OSCular makes it a snap with ableton or whatever. Can't wait for the customizable layouts!
Can I make it more than 5?
AcidDJx 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I got a few of the patches on the iPod to work with FL Studio, Live, and Usine when working live, even if not perfectly. Once the interface designer is complete and available this application will be indespensible to me.
Great App
barnarmo 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
awesome app! I hooked it up to VDMX and it worked like a charm. Room to grow, but it's off to a great start and the price is right.
What iPhone was made for!!!
skaterdays 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Before buying this app, I read a few reviews on touchosc and checked out all the other app's. This is by far the best of the bunch. Very sleek interface and can't wait for the option to create my own touch interface template. I found great tutorials on the site for installation. I was using touchosc Ableton and Traktor Pro with no problems.
This is sweet!
Trexmon 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good job - very nice app. Works great with Logic (OSCulator). Makes my phone much more useful. Thanks.
Best controller app.
Hip1756 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is definetly the best controller app currently available. Definetly a must have.
Reactor setup?
D.E. 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Okay, I haven't bought the app yet, but I will as soon as someone could perhaps tell me how well this will let me control Reactor, specifically the synth Gaugear. I love using the XY in Gaugear, but would love to have touch control via the iPhone. Looks like a GREAT app, though, and I can't wait to try it. I'm on a PC if that makes a difference. UPDATE - I bought the app and love it. After carefully following some online directions I've been able to connect it to Reactor with few problems. I've also finally gotten into how Reactor works thanks to this setup. I still haven't gotten Gaugear to work perfectly, but i'm still working on it. Right now I have it controlling some beats in GoBox, controlling it from across the room. VERY cool. I can't wait to delve deeper into this.
Well done!
Hale Microsystems 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I wish I would have paid 4.99 for this app instead of oscRemote. Simultaneous sliders and buttons are a prerequisite for any control surface. Would still be nice to label the controls though. Kenneth V1.1 update note Tracking the Z-axis for key mode would also supply mono velocity data. This is how the old EMU SP12's did it. I see you took my advice about the price too...
Horrible setup procedure
permutated 1.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
Couldn't get it working properly after hours of setup, I have a lot of environment experience with Reaktor but this protocol males no sense at all. I wound up buying the ITM keys in the app store instead, even though it was more expensive it actually worked within two minutes, and worked with Reason, Logic, and Reaktor (all at low latency). I wish TouchOSC was worthy of it time, money, and effort. Sadly it's not worth anything at all, even to experienced programmers and environment users.
Good video available showing off TouchOSC
fussylizard 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
There's a video on Vimeo by chromedecay (not sure if reviews can contain links, but search for chromedecay touchosc ableton bigseq at Vimeo) showing TouchOSC controlling Ableton Live and BigSeq (an Audio Damage plugin) via OSCulator. It gives you a good demonstration of one application of TouchOSC and its potential. After watching the video, I came straight here to buy it. As mentioned elsewhere you'll probably need OSCulator to link TouchOSC to your preferred MIDI app (that's my next stop).
totally cool!
Textmonster 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
love this app. endless possiblities... tweak city!
VERY COOL!
<> 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
It's like a mini Lemur! took me a minute to set it up and work out what was going on ,but once set up, works perfect. i suggest you download the OSCULATOR program online, very useful.
Great Product, but 1.1 doesn't work
J Bogart 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I like this product but I just downloaded the update for 1.1 and it doesn't work.
Ableton live support
Blondzie 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I can't get this thing set up there are similar touch apps done by it that work much better but I like the appearance of this one. If only it worked
Great App.

Heya !
kosen 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I really like this little app, it made my dream of a supersmall composing setup come true, together with a Korg Nano Keyboard Controller and a MacBook Pro.
Great!
d3l00z3 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
For those complain that this "doesn't work" you obviously don't understand open sound control. THIS IS NOT A MIDI CONTROLLER... but can be used to control midi. It is far more open, flexible and powerful then midi. OSC sends out raw data, 0 - 1 as opposed to midi which is limited to a range of 0 -127 (not considering ccs). Must have for anyone programming with max/map/jitter, supercollider, pure data, chucK, csound ect. I would also highly recommend mrmr which is even more flexible and totally free.
App that I want !!!
yasha2 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Yes!! iPhone changed to MIDI Controller!! Must buy additional soft OSCulator, But It is perfect App unitil now to me.
Good App!
dujoducom 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Hopefully the update mentioned in the description is a free one, custom interfaces wouldbe great. Could use some more in depth documentation.
Perfection
J Locust 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
If you know what OSC is, this is a must have.
Very promising!
Werkaholic 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
The support has been great for this app. This is a potential "killer" app in the DAW world. Thank you for making this.
This will be an awesome app once I get it setup.
nautch 3.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
Unless your pretty computer and network savvy or until this hexler writes more detailed instructions on how to set this up for everyone else I wouldn't buy it.
Works well! Easy setup. Needs two-way comms w/ host.
smithereens11 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
works well, though not all params appear in progs like Reaktor. Would like to see two-way comms btwn controller and prog (e.g., CC would appear as a number in the middle of the round controllers or next to/inside a slider when assigned by host).
